Say what you will, Ron Howard directed Apollo 13, and I have a massive unabashed hardon for that movie for its diamond-sheen polish and ludicrous attention to detail.

For me, Rogue One was a good idea that didn't have the best execution, while Solo was a bad idea that had the best execution given the premise.
I haven't seen that much of Ron Howard, but I really liked Cinderella Man. Anyone else got a Ron Howard movie they liked?
KingoftheGundam79 I love Backdraft and Rush. In the Heart of the Sea, despite its pacing, is quite underrated. I know a lot of people hate it, but it's actually nostalgic for me, is The Grinch. But his best one is probably A Beautiful Mind.
How the Grinch Stole Christmas. Which is probably the only one of his movies I've seen. *braces for the inevitable blowback* ;)

I had the pleasure of seeing Heart of the Sea at my budget theater. As stated in this OML about most of Ron Howard's work, nothing groundbreaking but definitely an enjoyable film. It should get at least a little more love.
KingoftheGundam79 Personally, I love “Parenthood” and “Splash” (though for the latter film, that’s more out of *personal preference,* since it’s got Tom Hanks in it, plus it’s a pretty good live-action remake of Disney’s “The Little Mermaid” 😂).
I also enjoyed Apollo 13, which I can easily say is Ron Howard’s BEST film, and should have won both the “Best Picture” and “Best Director” Oscars, instead of the overrated “A Beautiful Mind”.
Pre-OML Watch Thought: It was a fun movie. I think after the whole box-office slump this movie will have a much better performance with home viewing.
I say it was about as good as it could have been given that it had no reason for existing. I don't love it, but it's passable. I'd rank it above the first two prequels and the 2008 Clone Wars movie, but that's about it.
Can I go to the alternate timeline where Howard was always this film’s director and Lord/Miller did direct Ghostbusters? Please?

I was at Buffalo Wild Wings until I immediately watched the video.
Half my friends (and I) only care about Donald Glover. The other half only cared about that chick from Game of Thrones. So not even the main character is drawing any interest from us. Sounds like this is something to wait until it comes out on Netflix.

Similarly not only did Disney fire Phil lord and Chris Miller with no warning and while they were in the middle of production but Disney cancelled the marvel Netflix shows not only without warning but also while the shows were still not finished with their respective storylines and leaving a ton of cliffhangers
TBH I thought L3-37 was an attempt to throw a bone to the MRAs since she seemed like a caricature.
I thought this was a really fun movie and 2 hours well spent. It also contains the most deep cut piece of fan service I've ever seen and I'm pretty sure I was the only one in the theater that got it
I feel you in the beginning, Tony. Grated Ron Howard made some stinkers: (The Dilemma, The Grinch, The Dan Brown trilogy) But for what its worth? I thought he directed the film fine.
I just knew why Jerk is feeling happier than ever. I understand it now!
Also I liked Backdraft. There were some problems with the movie. In a few scenes the firefighters acted out of character because they were breaking safety rules that I thought they would never break like riding an elevator in a burning building. The elevator could lose power. Then you are trapped. If you are a fire fighter trapped in a elevator going to put out a fire the building is doomed.
Just here to give props for the Demi Adejuyigbe needle drop. Seriously, that guy is awesome.

I definitely agree with a lot of this. A perfect meh movie. If a friend wants to put this on I’m not gonna say no, gonna pick a Star Wars movie to watch I’m not gonna pick this one most likely. Sucks we’re never gonna see a frame of the first shoot and either people will decide this movie is one of the greats or they will say it’s worthless unfortunately. And as fucking usual this review went above and beyond with the replacement stuff and every cutaway being gold. Tony can’t not make a video perfect and that’s why we all love him!

You have literally MILLIONS of free TH-cam channels at your disposal, but I only have so much time every day. I WILL get to every video I've promised eventually if you'll just be patient. And if none of the other channels appeal to you, you can always entertain yourself. Impatiently demanding videos will not get them out any faster.
I'll be That Guy and say this: After The Last Jedi, I'm going into Star Wars movies with my skeptic brow at full mast, and sadly I can't even really bring myself to see Solo to begin with. I mean, is there *really* a need for a movie about him?
Obi-Wan, Boba Fett, those guys I could see movies being done about, but Han? You didn't need anything extra to like Han! Han was good from day one, no need for a backstory. Hell, adding a backstory where we (almost) see the actual sabaak game that won him the Falcon was padding at best.
Granted, I'm the guy who after 7 months of letting The Last Jedi stew in his mind has slowly lost a lot of general good will to that movie. Although I really should hold my tongue considering I found Jurassic World Fallen Kingdom to be a fun movie--certainly not a smart movie, but a fun one--and have been happy to chew out The Last Jedi.
Then again, Star Wars has a fanbase easily 3x that of Jurassic Park and has a lot more reputation to uphold...

The only Ron Howard movie that ever really impressed me was Rush.
"Everyone wanted to see a young Han Solo film!" Really? I was much more interested in a Lando film. Han Solo's origins didn't really interest me and I've not yet seen this film.
Some think Kylo is Boba Fett's son instead of Han's son. They think Boba Fett raped Leia when she was Jabba's slave. That might be possible but Han would know it was not his son.
Plus there's THIS tiny detail - in order for that theory to be proven true, there would need to be A FUCKING RAPE SCENE IN A STAR WARS MOVIE.

I agree but the person's logic is that Adam Driver looks more like the Jango Fett actor more so than Harrison Ford because of the long hair. I find it odd though since Boba was flirting with some alien women in Jaba's home. Si I din't know if their is any validity behind it. It feels more like a fan grasping for straws.

I thought L3 was annoying then just okay then annoying again.
Actually many wanted no Solo move altogether because they felt the mystery would be ruined. Lando having a droid love interest is a terrible idea. It felt out of character for him. Alden smiled too much too. It wasn't consistent enough that Alden felt like Han. Although if someone like Ansel Elgort did this movie it might have been better but not that much because much of the script and direction was bad. Some Last Jedi haters liked this movie which makes me feel like they are hypocrites and I liked the Last Jedi but I had problems with it. Not enough of the problems turned me off from the movie.
You know what would have made this a must see or at least more interesting. Have the framing device be a bedtime story that Chewbacca tells to Rey sometime after TLJ. The actor not looking like Harrison Ford isn't a problem because its Rey's imagination. It no longer carries the stigma of a prequel. It immediately takes on a more light-hearted tone.

“Lord & Miller have the Midas touch and never made a bad movie”… no, I’ll fight you on that one. The Cloudy movies ARE bad. Not in the same vein as AniMat bashing solely on Sony Pictures Animation, it’s more in the sense of how they took a very charming creative kids’ book and just turned it into the most generic type of story with very cliché characters, taking out the magic. Just see Jaimetud’s From Pages to Pictures on the subject. However, that’s the only blemish they have.
They didn't direct the sequel (which I never saw) but I'll go to the mat for the first Cloudy. Wasn't expecting much out of it and it blew me the hell away.
It wouldn't have made mych sense...it would have looked like joke casting (largely because it would have *been* joke casting)...the fans would have flipped out over the unexplained between-movie racial change...and he probably wouldn't even have *taken* the part...but I can't help but think...if they were *gonna* cast someone to play Han Solo alongside Donald Glover...
I was kind of disappointed by this movie. Just me personally, I hope other people enjoyed it though.
Looking back, maybe it was a blessing Lord and Miller got fired from this movie. Say what you will about Kathleen Kennedy, she definitely doesn’t want a toxic work environment.
I thought it was okay, but as someone who has read the old books, it strays so much and purposely does the opposite.
In my book (pun not intended) this movie is pretty bad
I still can’t believe that this one doesn’t get as much hate as the Sequel Trilogy. People whine and moan when Luke tosses his lightsaber over his shoulder when it’s part of his character for The Last Jedi but somehow NO ONE has a problem with Han Solo getting his last name given to him by the Empire. Perhaps I should be grateful that there aren’t as many demented trolls bashing this movie like there are for the sequel trilogy. I still wish those movies didn’t get that to begin with but I guess we can’t get everything that we want when it comes to the fandom of Star Wars.

I didn't like this movie. This doesn't make it awful, more so that it's just nothing. No characters get any real development or arcs, the action wasn't very engaging, I didn't gain anything from the film, it was just empty. Say what you will about The Last Jedi, it tried really hard to give the audience something deeper to chew on. It tackled themes, ideas, morals, even deconstructing Star Wars as a franchise. Solo doesn't even make the attempt to do that.
I can’t say that I hate this film but I felt that it didn’t bring anything new or groundbreaking to the table. It had a lot of references from previous Star Wars installments in it but that seems to be the only things that people would get out of this mess of a movie.
I didn't like this movie. The exposition felt too forced and the droid was annoying. The movie was predictable too.
It's official. We can blame Disney or Lucasfilm for making Ghostbusters 2016 shit.
