  • The CHEAP Mitsubishi Triton CONSTANTLY comes LAST in comparison tests... but I think they've got it ALL WRONG!!!
The 2023 Mitsubishi Triton Ute (aka Truck) is the budget Japanese play from Mitsubishi; no it's not fancy, but it does the job - and it does it reliably! So should you buy the Mitsubishi Triton ute, especially when you compare it with its Chinese counterparts like the Great Wall Motors Ute Cannon X? Let's talk about that!

It's the best dual cab 4x4 I've ever owned. And still one of the very few with an aux transmission cooler.
A good set of tyres, rear diff locker and a throttle controller and they're on off-road weapon as well.

Bought a GSR a year ago and have been loving it. Test drove a BT50 at the time (only Mazda and Mitsubishi had cars available to test drive), and the Triton was so much nicer to drive. Got the roller tonneau cover which is so much better than the soft cover (in my opinion) and lockable. Also been doing quite a bit of 4WDing in the standard tyres, although I could use a bit of extra clearance so that will change eventually. Love the feel of the interior (but the tan seats are ugly I reckon. They should have made them in the same burnt orange colour). Beautiful car.

So, I had an MQ triton, was a long-term owner, decided to upgrade, and found that the MR was the same vehicle reskinned. Nothing else changed. I bought the Cannon X, after a lot of research and test driving every dual cab on the market.
I found it much more refined on the road, quieter, a nicer place to be day to day. It's also smoother both laden and unladen. The only thing that was up in the air is reliability, but considering they are using the same engine from the v/x200 (the only good and reliable part of those vehicles). I think reliability should be OK.
I'm not saying the triton is a bad vehicle because it's definitely not, but for me, it was a surprising step in a different direction (that I never thought I would take), and only time will tell how it ends up.

Rust will also be a big issue with a chinese vehicle. Had you done some more research you would have discovered that chinese metals are inferior as they scimp on all the expensive elements that give steels their qualities such as strength ruse resistance etc.

As for cars made by Mitsubishi, they are very good and reliable. I own 2 used Mitsubishi tritons. Both of them are over 10 years old and both of them are still works good. Personally I won’t buy any new Japanese car for the reason that Japan never apologised for the crime they made during WW2. The GSR badge is a joke as it used to be a respectable super fast turbo lancer model but GSR in the Triton means it has fake nails and fake eyelashes. It needs a V6 diesel engine, modern interior, dig readouts, wireless cp & aa. Matt has found a lot of faults with this vehicle in this review but has played it down each time saying “but that’s ok” or “but I don’t mind.” But all these faults are more reasons why I won’t buy a Triton unless they address them. All judgement aside for this car I love your reviews guys, keep it up!

My mate bought a new triton, it blew the head gasket and had to have a full engine rebuild, luckily it was under warranty. Don't buy Triton or any Mitsubishi for that matter because they are poorly made.

I strongly suggest everybody go spend 25k more and buy japanese/murican utes, just don't buy chinese utes. because those who bought chinese utes for 25k less, they spend their money wisely, live a happy life, and become homeowners. but who the fxck want that? real proud guy pays premium money for brands, spend tons of money on beer, drive like angry rooster, swears at people while driving, and laughs at "chinese manufactureing" before and after they get drunk, while the country he's from can only manufacture moo-moo-gas, chinese manufacturing had bullet train net work, stealth fighter jet, space station, super conputers, quantum comptuters manufactured indigenously. let the pride fly high, let gravity handles it later.

China builds all of those things because they copied Western countries. China cannot innovate.
