  • The Mitsubishi Triton has been out for ages (also called the Mitsubishi L200 in some markets) and it represents excellent value in the segment. But, is it any good? Paul Maric reviews the 2021 Mitsubishi Triton GLS, which sits one down from the top specification model.

We own a 2017 Triton GLS. Very very happy with it. No complaints at all. So happy in fact we also now own a 2019 Pajero Sport.
Does everything we want and is reliable too. Cheers.

Best ute out there hands down in my opinion... one MASSIVE advantage that no one talks about is the super active 4wd systems lets you run the car in AWD on sealed roads... makes the car insanely more safer and stable on wet roads, gravel roads etc.

Bought a Triton end of last year, first non Hilux I’ve owned (I’m 56). To me the Triton is what the Hilux was. Everything I need, nothing I don’t. Reliable, very happy with it. Fuel economy is extremely good around town. After 6 months ownership only thing I can say negative is the indicator is a bit quiet and I can forget to turn off if playing loud music (happened once).

I have owned many different vehicles. Had a few tritons, I highly recommend them and have never had any issues with any of them. Extremely reliable and great value.
I believe they have a steel timing chain too and was told that is also a massive bonus for reliability.
The 2015 model I have only gets 550ish kms per highway drive. Cost 100 to fill up with 98 based on around $2.15 per litre.
I'm buying a new one as shown in this video, with the fuel saving on this model I'm hoping it pays for itself compared to my 2015 triton.
I got the leather seat and camera upgrade package thinking it will make a huge difference for family comfort and parking.

After long wait Triton review is finally landed. I own a 2020 Triton Gls model since January 2020. I loaded it close to 1 ton maybe like 10 times or more with rocks to build my garden wall. I had to bring the rocks from a mountainous location. Roads were uneven, muddy and rocky as hell. But Triton did the job easily with no issues at all. I think its the perfect ute choice considering the price.

Has now done 45,000 kms without any glitches or warranty claims. It took a while to get down to the advertised fuel economy, but at 45,000kms its loosened up and performing very well. Long term, believe it or not, tritons and dmaxs outlast hiluxs and navarras in the Jamaican Bauxite industry and in general usage. The previous 4d56 engine may not be the most powerful but it is robust as are the body panels and driveline. Nevertheless Toyotas are ubiquitous. The last good hilux generation was the generation before the D4D or those after the 22r model. I notice Aussies tune their utes a lot but out of the box the triton last longer out here, carry heavier payloads (in bed) more stable, are mechanically more simple and are more comfortable to work in for years. Aussies also do off-roading for recreation and do a lot of towing compared to Jamaica. Out here reliability, load carrying ability and ride quality are the focus for a work vehicle. Hiluxs have gotten too complicated especially the engines and electronics which are fragile, expensive to repair and just too fussy

    • @anthonyramdin1037
      @anthonyramdin1037 3 ปีที่แล้ว +9

Spot on brother! I am from Trinidad and Tobago and there are tons more older tritons on the road than hiluxs. Hilux is overrated, always has been cause it just lives off the toyota reliability name. Thailand, malaysia, indonesia for example, tritons are used primarily for off-road and load carrying because of their robustness and reliability. The 4d56 has been around for decades now and has always been improved to the point where it has become bulletproof. Whilst it maybe not be the most powerful, it gets the job done with minimal fuss. My dad has the 120 series prado with the 1kz-te engine and that thing is so underpowered all to achieve reliability whereas the 4d56 which is a smaller displacement, produces more power but has to work harder because of the smaller displacement is just as or even more reliable. That says alot. And talking about body rigidity, a rim and tyre from a loaded 10 wheeler Mack dump truck (200+ lbs) crossed the highway and hit my dad's 2007 triton by the back of the cab and front of the tub and she took it like a champ. Still drives but the tub needs replacing as well as the back door. Tritons are very strong and severely underrated.

@@lorenzoroberts1326 go for the triton brother! Those are super reliable cause I have a 2007 one that runs like a dream, no problems at all with it. The last model hilux and this current one have plenty problems but the mitsubishi won't let you down. Nissan is here nor there, the last model b4 the current one was rubbish and don't even bother with the ranger. The dmax is also a solid option and it's up there with the triton but for me I will always go for the triton because it's better off road and is just fun to drive in general. I would also advise you to use diesel treatment which is a concentrated solution that you put in the tank when you are filling up. It helps the vehicle run smoother and makes the engine last longer. All these vehicles are common rail so the diesel treatment helps the vehicle run better else it will be sluggish. You can buy it in automotive stores. But yeah go for the triton, solid vehicle

Long term, they have had their moments with engine problems. A friend has a small fleet of them, some approaching 200,000 miles and is very happy with them. He also has a Navara and Ford Ranger for his farm. The L200's are used for sales and general use in his tractor dealership, so less demanding use than the others.

Starting to get a few issues but nothing that stops it. Will look at a new one when in the market for one. One thing I should have avoided were the aftermarket add ons. Steel bull bar looks like it was made by the apprentice on their day off. Thankfully never met the roo that it was for.

I've had my 2017 MQ Triton since new and I'm pretty happy with it. The only complaint I have is the drum brakes at the rear don't like long downhills very much. They start to pulse and the pulsing gets stronger and stronger the longer the downhill. It's not a huge deal and only happens once in a while. It was a bargain at $35k new and I could almost get that much for it second hand right now. I don't use it very much and have only put 45 000km on it in 5 years.

I've owned two tritons. I now own a ranger.....thought id try something else. the triton is an awesome ute. they are super reliable and is defiantly a ute for the long haul if that's what you want it to be. underrated yes but when you own a ranger you then realise why its priced so differently. the ranger tops it in just about every category. its bigger wheel base gives the ute a much more stable and settled chassis. the triton lacks width in the cabin and lreally needs a longer wheel base. the chassis overhang from the rear tray is not good . need to be careful when towing. it really needs to get bigger all over. the 2.4 donk is nice thanks to the mivec. whilst it gets by it does feel like your constantly ringing its neck. i bought the wife a 2021 pajero which has the 3.2 and its a really nice engine . I even prefer it over the 3.2 in my ranger. wish the 3 2 was in the triton. just goes to show how even an old donk like the 3.2 still trumps all this late model electronic junk. overall its definitely one to look at when buying a ute but you need to think about what it is your doing with the ute first . would I buy one again ..... yes.

Have a 2016 MQ GLS Triton with 175kms. At present it appears to have a leaking rear main seal and leaking auto transmission sump. Both of which I'll fix next service. Otherwise cannot fault it. They have common faults of jumping out of 3rd gear and squeaky suspension, both are fixed free under warranty, alongside the well known official recalls. I'd comfortably buy one again for on/off road use, although rattling front seatbelt and seat itself are a pain

  • @hedydd2

Best looking L200 ever and the super-select transfer box is the best in the business. In the UK they are now allowed to tow 3.5 tons, but only with three axle trailers, which is odd and not quite up to rival's performance. If that is not a consideration, it's a good choice.
Unfortunately Mitsubishi are soon pulling out of Europe altogether. This coincides with the loss of the VW, Merc and soon, the Navara as well. What is going on? These things sell like hot cakes in the UK, certainly in my part of it. Nobody much bought the Mercedes though, we were never that daft.

    Most underrated pickup truck.
    1. Lowest wheel base (3,000 mm) compare to other pickups and has better maneuverability even on tight spaces road conditions and parking area.
    2. The lightest curb weight pickup with the best power to weight ratio compare to other pickups with a better fuel efficiency due to its light body weight.
    3. The only pickup that can ran in highway at high speed even 4WD (4H) is engaged.
    4. Has a paddle shifter for sports mode and manual gear-shifting.
Has more high and technology features And yet the price is better compare than other pickup brands.

Bought a base single cab manual 2015 MQ 4wd new in late 2016, still have it with 90k on it. It's a rough ride, has next to no tech, has a harshish engine that doesn't really like working and economy is average for what I've done to it and with it. Having said that the only thing I would change is I'd have gone the auto if I had my time over. Nothing has gone wrong with it, the interior still comes up like new with a clean, it tows the boat brilliantly and does everything I want it to do reliably. I really hope they don't end up changing this basic formula with the next Nissan/Renault/Mitsubishi conglomerate ute, this jack of all trades master of none formula is a winner.
