Benzo Belly - How I Healed from Psych Med Gut Damage

  • In this video I talk about what I've learned about gut health and how I healed my gut from psych med damage. Two things I forgot to cover in the video:
    1) Another major MAJOR symptom of mine after I got off the drugs completely was an intense burning sensation all through my gut. This is a symptom of neuropathy and is really common in withdrawal and can happen in any place in the body, not just the gut. It healed, I haven't had a flare up of that particular symptom in probably a year.
    2) The Restore 3 supplement has a lot of other ingredients in it that make it an all-in-one supplement. It also has binders to remove toxins and probiotics to help restore good colonies. It worked like magic but it took about 3 months to start to see results.

    Thank you for spreading the word. As you said we all have different physiology, different healing times, different side effects when you’re taking medication and after tapering. It is so great when people who are further on in their healing journeys are able to share what helped them personally (as well as what didn’t help or made things worse). It helps so much both by providing glimmers of hope and knowing that we are not alone in our suffering which is so horribly debilitating, isolating and misunderstood.
    The continuing failure by medical authorities, Psychiatric institutions and even addiction rehab providers to recognise that the improper prescribing of these medications and lack of understanding when it comes to tapering, not to mention such crippling side effects, is ruining lives and causing immense suffering. We’re unseen and unheard., so your courage in telling your story in such an open and vulnerable way is so much appreciated. I hope that most of your healing journey is now behind you and wish you the best life going forward.❤

      Yes, agreed. The addiction specialists are prescribing massive dosages of methadone and suboxone for people wanting to discontinue their short acting hydrocodone, oxycodone, or heroin. These long acting opiates creates a long term dependence problem instead of just supporting them medically through a 3-5 day withdrawal. It's insanity.

    Hi Matt, I'm 14 months into my protracted withdrawal. It soothes me to know I'm not alone in this fight. It can be hard when you can't relate to anyone around you in your life, and you are just hiding in this shell all alone. I've been on Carnivore Diet for several months now due to carb and glutamate intolerance, and I really miss comfort foods like dairy or chocolate. My gut is so sensitive from SIBO and leaky gut. After I eat anything I'll be down for the count for the rest of the day - brain fog, bloating, and horrible malaise.. Antibiotics really made everything worse (Cipro has its own withdrawal community as well) I'm going to give digestive enzymes another try, as I'm desperate to get rid of this chronic stomach bug. Sometimes it feels like I'm going to feel like this forever, eat like this forever, but seeing testimony from people like you gives me hope for change. I wanted to say thanks and I wish you well on your own journey.

It’s a moving target in this recovery so just adapt as you go and know that you don’t have to be perfect or believe in healing for it to happen. Sending you love.

    I just found your channel earlier and am now up way past my bedtime bingeing all your videos. I'm saving the Dr. Josef one for my walk tomorrow. I just discovered him a couple days ago so it's a brilliant crossover.
    That was the best explanation I've ever heard on SIBO. I'm 2 years off and now beginning to address all the gut issues and nutrient deficiencies these drugs have left me with (which tbh started shortly after I started them 20 years ago). Thanks for spitting the truth, thanks for making me feel validated and less alone. The last few months have been hard. Even though we have never spoken, I know you "get me".

    Going through my withdrawal (which I still am) I found myself losing so much weight that I had to eat when I could and basically all comfort food. I was ketonic before I started in this journey though. I need to go back to it. I love carbs too.
    From what you've said, it sounds like I need to be in ketosis. I also found that carbs (that are sugar) ramped up my anxiety and inner akathesia. Right now I'm doing moderated ketosis. I'm having some decent success with this.
    At minute 37, you mention your gratitude you have now. I have this for everything now. I get what you're speaking of. How great is it when you lay your head down and realize you are ok or are going to be ok.
    I just went through a very tough wave. Weeks of just feeling so ill. Three days ago I started feeling really great and it hasn't stopped. I'm praying I've gotten through some wave and it will stick. I have NEVER gone backwards in my recovery. Only forward.
    Thanks for posting this video. You're doing really great. I've watched your other stuff and you were just like I was. Lost and in pain. Now, you are doing well. Thank GOD. (I'm 10 1/2 months in)
    Time heals everything. I am in need of getting employment. I need some money. I'm not ready yet though and through this withdrawal I realize I need to wait as I will know when it is the right time for me to go back to work. I am thankful and I'm patient.

There’s a big housing crisis here and the locals don’t appreciate it. I will say this- it was extremely challenging setting up a home here. Something like 75 people applied for the room I currently live in. The cost of living is huge. It can be done, but it’s not easy especially during this healing process.

    I still think your vid on insomnia has been the most useful in all the vids I've seen regarding recovery largely because it reassured me things would get better when I too was convinced it was permanent, but I was going to suggest another possible vid for you: Maybe talk about anhedonia. If you don't know it by its 'technical name' it's that feeling of indifference/numbness towards everything around you that prevents you from doing the things you love because those things no longer give you pleasure from doing them. I find myself knee-deep in this as well and I'm interested in your take on it if you're up for either responding to this or sitting in front of a camera for an hour or so.
    Thanks again for your contributions to helping others understand these things, 'cuz hearing it from someone who's been through it and come out on the other end is huge...

    Hi Matt,
    thank God I have never taken any of these horrible pills, but somehow still ended up on your channel. After hearing your and others' stories of detoxing from these substances I can't help but wonder why you people don't just stay on them for life. The symptoms described are beyond horrible and as far as I understand there's no guarantee of completely coming through. I imagine experiencing this pain for an extended period can also cause further mental damage. I hope you don't get me wrong, I'm just genuinely curious why you choose to quit as the withdrawal sounds way worse and more dangerous than the addiction. Anyway I admire you for being able to quit and helping others, wish you a long and healthy life!

    • @Heymattmarin
      @Heymattmarin  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +6

      Watch my first three videos. I had awful symptoms on the meds that only ever got consistently worse. They never helped me. They were incredibly dehumanizing substances and I felt like a slave to them. I wanted to know myself unmedicated. And people absolutely do recover from all of this but it takes years for a lot of people. Also, many people who go through this do not have the choice of going back on, myself included. I was beyond desperate at the beginning of my withdrawal but unfortunately, reinstating the drugs made me even worse. It’s like once your system gets fried it can’t handle any more psychoactive substances at all. Hope this is helpful in understanding. I wish you well!

    • @kellegyheadshot
      @kellegyheadshot 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      @@Heymattmarin Thanks for answering, I did. I'm European and not a big fan of your ways, plus I had some vague knowledge that this drug issue you have way worse than us. So I didn't have high expectations about your system, still I'm left amazed about you as a moderately anxious teenager being fed such potent drugs without anyone even having a clue of dangers, and that this is common practice. Meanwhile people are doing life for selling drugs way less harmful. One can only think that this madness is happening by design. Anyway I've heard you say you wasted your best years, and I genuinely think you shouldn't feel that way. Fighting this evil system and coming out sane is a greater achievement most people have in their entire life, one that you should feel very proud of. I'm around your age, don't think I've got the best behind me, and I sure had it better the past 10 years than you did. With the wisdom you gained during this struggle I'm sure you have great things ahead. I'll pray for you and your peers.

My main thing is is I’m a Ben Jeter and an emotional eater been going through divorce so I’ve been having issues with relapsing on eating sugar and caffeine so I will have to stop both of those, every time I stop them I get really bad depression and SI because of Akathesia the biociden does not bother me either. I also take the other stuff that my doctor recommended to go with it. I just haven’t used it because I keep relapsing on my drugs of choice that would be sugar and caffeine. There are several different types of biofilm disruptors. The biggest key to everything is discipline and you had that down.

    If you were on 1.25 Mg Xanax 2 months and would you remove .25 ? which is 20%. I did that 3 months ago and have been fine. You think I can do it again? or is that too much? The liquid T seems too complicated and I would just chop them up.

    If you could *PLEASE READ AND RESPOND* I would be very grateful.
    I am currently going through withdrawals on head meds - The worst is supposedly over since I passed the point of the 'halflife' of the drug. However, I am having really, really bad insomnia - Like during that I went literally a week with most nights being no sleep and maybe one rare night where I got two hours that were drug-induced (I got the drugs through my doctors).
    My question is this: Have you had it that bad with insomnia and can you give some encouraging words that it will get better? At this point I'm getting pretty scared that this is a 'forever thing', and I think you should consider making a vid specifically on your experiences with insomnia and what you've observed from others throughout the years.
    I'm very grateful for any response you have, and again: I think it would be really beneficial to a lot of people if you made a video specifically on that topic. Either way, thanks for reading and I hope you have a great day...
    EDIT: I'm an idiot - I see you already made an insomnia vid. I could still do with some encouraging words if you've got 'em.

    • @Heymattmarin
      @Heymattmarin  หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Your brain is going to tell you over and over that it’s forever. It just is. And it’s lying to you because it’s injured. It is not forever. And yes, I go into a lot of detail on all this in the insomnia vid. It has been a very inconsistent and not linear path for me. It’s two steps forward one or two steps back for a while. Keep going. It will pass.

    It sounds like you are dealing with SIFO not SIBO. The whole carb thing you are mentioning right off the bat screams Candida overgrowth. Maybe the reason you kept having SIBO comeback is because you have an overgrowth of fungi in your gut, which requires a completely different killing protocol than SIBO.
    After looking at the Restore 3 product, it appears that it’s good for getting rid of Candida, so I imagine this has something to do with it. If you ever have gut issues comeback, look more into things like monolaurin, caprylic acid, and Thorne’s sf722 products (undelynic acid) not saying that it will comeback but just keep that in mind, or for any others who read this.

    Thanks for sharing your video & exprience. I need to ask your opinion.
    I'm 4 years xanax free. I'm still dealing with protracted symptoms & my gut is pretty much taking a beating through all this, my stomach is pretty much been always messed up, & when I got covid in jan 2024 (first time). I notice G. I. Has gotten way worse than before with alot of symptoms (more x5). Daily Bloating, fullness, dull uncomfortable pain upper middle diaphragm area, loss of appetite, nausea. Just moving, walking around makes my gut super tight, shortness of breath .Alot rest s to lay down to calm down. I'm strongly freaking out I'm thinking colon, stomach cancer. Im strongly thinking of seeing my Doctor. He will probably send me to a gastrologist do all kinds of tests, blood work 😢. I went through this before with my anxiety & all the symptoms that came with that all bloodwork, tests came back negative. Did you feel you needed to go see a doctor with all your belly pain & suffering of symptoms you were experiencing?

    • @Heymattmarin
      @Heymattmarin  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I went to several doctors and did all kinds of testing mostly for peace of mind. I wanna normalize and just let you know that everything you just described is very typical in withdrawal. My symptoms were horrific. They still get bad sometimes but not like before. It will heal with time. If you ask me, I think a lot of it is neuropathy and that just takes a long time to heal unfortunately. Hang in there.
