The New Frontier Pass is a new season pass for Civilization VI that brings eight new civilizations and nine new leaders, six new game modes and more to the critically acclaimed strategy game. Content will be released in six DLC packs delivered on a bimonthly basis from May 2020 to March 2021. Some features require either the Gathering Storm or Rise and Fall expansions to play.

Anyone else see the attention to detail in her design? Look at the design on her belt. The bottom pattern is a waves of the Ocean, the top pattern is the Mountains. the middle is a flying Crane. The creation Myth of Vietnam is a story about a Dragon Lord from the Sea and a Mountain Fairy who can turn into a crane.
Another Easter egg i noticed...on her leather bracers are the designs from the Dong Son Era.
Whoever was the artist or designer needs to be commended for the amount of research they have done. Well done.

well, technically and historically, that's not how Ba Trieu's outfit at her time looks like. I think this is the outfit somewhere in the 19th century, but still, I want to thank Firaxis for doing their best in replicating our culture.
Yeah imagine if they cared that much about actually fixing this terrible bug/glitch fest of a game! Then there might actually be a multiplayer scene above 2 thousand people IN THE WHOLE WORLD
The bird is representation of Lac Viet the ancestor of Vietnamese people. lac = water or crane and the lac viet founded bronze. Though, i would imagine Ba trieu would look less of chinese clothing but more of mong clothing and weapon would be a machete.

As a Vietnamese thank you very much for covering Bà Triệu in this dlc. Our history is not often covered outside the war and it is nice to see this is very well done. Hope in the future there will be more Viet character such as member of the Trần Dynasty that defeat the mongols 3 times

Hello bros, I think in Vietnamese Middle Ages, The Le dynasty was the most powerful. The Le dynasty was the most powerful. Historians have said that the feudalism of Vietnam during the time Le Thanh Tong (Hong Duc) ruled was golden ages. It called “ Hồng Đức Thịnh Thế”.

I'm also really glad they took inspiration from classical and medieval Vietnam instead of Vietnam War era. Ba Trieu, elephant and the thanh district are good representations. (Personally, I think it would have been cool if they did the Trung sisters instead - they would have been the first dual leader in Civ series).

Honestly, I'm glad Firaxis looked beyond just the Vietnam War in developing this civ. Vietnam has a long and fascinating history, which I'm glad is getting some attention here.
And the food is really good too
The vietnam war is too recent and controversial for Firaxis to do anything with it i think.
At the same time, they gave a nod with their ability. Never mess with Vietnam in the forest.

I really like the civilizations that interact with the map. Vietnam is an interesting civilization and it looks fun to play. Definitely a great civilization for cultural victory. They are the “appeal builders” of this pass.

They already have a love affair with encampments, because they don't do much planning and its one of the first 3 districts that can be unlocked, now one thats half price with extra bonuses? Actually, many trials in the mountainours area do use elephant in the Vietnam War. Of course people there don't use them as "Voi Chiến" - literally mean "War Elephant", but they do fought against many Chinese Dynasty & Mongol invasion back in the day. In the Vietnam War, local people who support the North use them to cary people & transporting heavy weight, going through rivers you can't simply swim to past them, support the soldier traveling in those mountain region ( where some place they can't build road for trucks and not always under heavy scouting ).
If you do visiting Vietnam mountainours area, i suggest you fine where you can ride elephant for a short trips. It was quite a scene seeing them walking in the jungle & through the a river (although the elephant in front off mine stop and take a "big dumb" in that said river). They are friendly and not as big, with huge ears like African elephant ... so don't get scared by thêm XD
A nice nod to Vietnamese history and anti-aggression movements led by Lady Trieu! And the districting feature now does not penalize the players to settle in an open terrain! Bravo, CIV team! 👍🏽

Voi Chiến, also known as "Tượng Binh" or Elephant Troops in English, were a destructible force and main combat unit of Vietnamese Dynasties back then. With massive size and unstopable power, these units really are a threat to the enemy when facing them on the battlefield, especially the narrow one. But they have one weakness: afraid of fire.

Man, this leader, whose name I can never spell, is one of the coolest people in eastern history. She led a revolt against Chinese overlords that helped establish the Vietamese early national identity. I was really hoping it'd be her.
Lady Trieu. And she has an amazing quote as well.
Before her was Trung Sister, they are our first leader since An Duong Vuong and Hung King Era.
What is sad is that eastern countries keep these historical characters as legends, so we'll never know the historical truth about Lady Trieu. It's like having movie Jeanne d'Arc as a leader for France.

The leader's special ability literally drove out Kublai's invading forces. And I guess that's why Kublai was released along with her.
Actually, Lady Trieu rebel against Wu kingdom( 3 kingdoms era ) but she was defeated.
There is Tran Hung Dao in our history who actually faced Kublai Khan's forces. Hope he could come too, someday.
@@ThuanNguyen26090 Wasn't really referring to the leader specifically. It feels like every failed offense to the southeast Asian region were because of a similar idea of that special ability.
I really think such an ability should be a Vietnam civ bonus, but having a conditional combat bonus makes a civ less appealing compare to some bonus that affects overall growth. Especially after they rolled out crazy Civs like the Babylonians.

Every Civ is a turtling Civ... The AI are wholly incompetent at utilising the hex system and are hopeless at invading. The only way to make it more challenging is to use the two units per tile mod.

I feel like the west gets a lot of chinese and japanese culture/history exposure, but much less of other far east cultures. Korea has been bigger recently with a lot of TV becoming more prominent here. Maybe this will be the first of many other things to get us more exposure to the culture and history of Vietnam.

Very interesting. It has been so long since I played Civilization. Perhaps I'll try this. One nitpick: the power should have been the Red River as it was the birthplace of Vietnamese civilization. The Nine Dragon River (the Mekong) was not part of Vietnam until more than 1300 years after the time of the 3rd century Ba Trieu. The depiction of the heroine is accurate though.

Kinda overpowered like most new civs. but hey, at least you didn’t add talking trees, that would’ve made them impossible to invade.
Eeeeh, compared to most of the New Frontier pass, Vietnam may well be the weakest so far, because of how situational and restrictive her ability is.
If you/ The AI spawn near desert territory, or in areas lacking wood and jungle is basically a game over, right away, since you can't build any districts except for harbors until the medieval era.
It's kinda like Inca on a map with few hills, or Indonesia on a map lacking water tiles. If the terrain doesn't favor them, they lose by default.

The " Voi Chiến", which mean war elephants, was pronounced so cute, I thought i was voi-chan in the firstplace.

- "Voi chiến" literally means war elephant. We also have other more well-known units/weaponry such as the multishot "God-Crossbow".
- "Thành" also literally means a castle or walled city. You could've picked the "Cổ Loa Citadel" instead since it's a special spiral-structured kind of walled city.
- The turtle civ idea is cool but there is a unique tactic that Vietnamese really love to use which is planting spikes on the river to destroy enemy ships, I think it should be implemented in some way.
Cổ Loa Citadel should be one of the wonders instead. This is just a normal unique improvement which replaces the encampment.

I swear, every story that involves Vietnam and another foreign power attempting to invade can pretty much be summed up with, “They come here but they do not leave, they will regret that”.
Seeing how Vietnam is gonna be a defensive powerhouse with the use of terrain, I am wondering if Russia couldn't get kind of a similar treatment. The blizzard mecanic that they actually have is kinda nice, but too unpredictable. I'm thinking something like ''all enemy units have -1 movement on Tundra and Snow tiles on Russia's territories''. I think that would be cool.

I really wanted them to have the Trung sisters, taking advantage of how some civs have multiple leaders with different bonuses, but I guess this works too.
I think another alternative would be Ngo Quyen (Drives out the Song Dynasty), or Tran Hung Dao (Whooped Kublai Khan 3 times. By the third time, he said "Easy"."

Eh, there are good and bad people in all countries. I hope you don't feel offended, embarrassed or defensive when Chinese aggression is mentioned. Best to be a good person and do all you can turn to influence those around you to also be decent humans. That includes not supporting aggression against anybody, inside or outside China.
