This music is so beautiful. One of the best. You can tell how it tells the tale of the Viet. It begins in a very minimalistic style, evoking the many jungle dwelling Nanman tribes south of the Yangtze, then procedes into the Chinese influenced medieval and industrial themes, really showing the struggle with and against Chinese colonialism and culture. The triumphal moments there really evoke the high points for the Viet, like throwing the Mongols back and how their culture still endures, despite centuries of living next to China. The last one is a bit mournful at times in comparison, as if evoking the French period and the Vietnam War. Firaxis did an amazing job.
Ly Keo Chai - Drag Fishing Net(using for fishing in the sea area) Giang Cau - Trap fish by Fishing Net(using for fishing on the river or flooded area) Trong Com - Rice Drum(using for harvest fetival)
Like Gran Colombia, this music really caught my attention from the initial pre-First Look announcement video. It really captures that sort of Far East Asian style (as best as I know it, since I really know next to nothing about Vietnamese music), in a huge and orchestral way. The Medieval track is especially cool; often it feels like the Medieval tracks have a melody over a drone, which works fine enough, but here the Medieval European strings really off the Vietnamese instruments back and forth in a really cool way. This is likely to become my favorite Medieval track in the soundtrack overall.
Our folk has the tell the legend about Bà Triệu like this: "Dear my child, sleep as well. So I can carry water to wash the elephant. Go to the mountain and watch. Watch Ba Trieu General riding an elephant and chasing away invaders. Brocade bag mixed with silk bags. Prepare betel for your dad, and wish him a safe return."
It took me literally years to realize that they use actual National folk songs for themes... and that just made it 100x more fun to listen to while playing! This game already owes me a couple 1000 hours of my life back, but it could borrow just one more turn!! 😂

I am from the UK, and so have no knowledge of the original folk music, although it is pleasing to see so many people saying how true to the Vietnamese culture this is - personally my favourite is the Ancient Era version, just love the sound of the unstrument used.
At some point I realized none of these variants indicated an era, like, there were no electronic instruments and whatnot in Atomic, as it's often the case in other civs; it's just the single instrument slowly becoming a full-on orchestra, and I love it
Actually she was barely recorded in history, both Chinese and Vietnamese history. Most of the things we know about her is from a book written in early 20th century, 1700 years after her time: 清化紀勝
Yep I WAS RIGHT, VIETNAM’S MUSIC IS 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥 Aside from already being music suitable for a scene of being Asian kick-ass, honestly this music gives me the vibes of.... it’s as if I’m in and witnessing a festival in Vietnam! (Especially the Industrial and Atomic versions) SIDE NOTE: I can definitely also sense some elements that are also present in China and Khmer’s themes, quite awesome. I guess it’s also because Vietnam borders them both which is understandable.
I feel so bad that Vietnam was screwed so badly by two world powers in the 20th century and in the 21st is getting screwed by their certain other big neighbor.
I really like the look of the various rulers. Too many computer games have everybody look like a romance cover novel, especially the women. Here, they tend to look interesting, confident and generally like somebody you should not mess with. Civ VI seems a game that needs one week of playing before I know all the options and correlations, but just the beautiful soundtracks might just be worth it. And 48 different cultures presented! Nice work, guys.

Medieval era is such a banger. The tempo really makes you feel like you're on an adventure.
Wow, I’m Vietnamese and I’m surprised with this. Great work.
Once I watched the Firaxis orchestra interview and the guy in charge of the orchestra said something like:
"Please turn on the audio while playing the game because we try really hard to create all this music."
Dude, even my neighbors get to listen to your OST, no biggie lol
If you're not playing Civ with the music on you're doing it so wrong lol. To me it's the best part of the game :)
It's a sin to not turn on the music while playing civ
Someone should tell that orchestra that we don't only listen to their music when we play the game, but also when we are doing other stuff.
@@zachawy3548 Except if there is a very serious reason to play without sound.
Although I love listening to these songs while I commute, travel or work, I turn off the music in game because of the repetitiveness. I preferred the Civilization IV approach, with royalty-free musics in phase with the era.
0:00 Ancient Era: Lady Trieu is born
3:54 Medieval Era: Lady Trieu becomes a warrior.
8:08 Industrial Era: The American Spy sneaks into the forest and recording with a camera.
12:39 Atomic Era: Theodore Roosevelt started an American-Vietnam War.
Man, oh man, I really love that part toward the end of the Atomic Era version, where the orchestra swells triumphantly.
Bravo to the sound team as always! This may be a new favourite. :D
Unique Era names for Vietnam:

That's a good interpretation there
Small correction here, Viets weren't part of the nanman but the baiyue
getting some Khmer theme vibes here
I will try my best to do a good piano cover
Stay tuned ^^
Sounds like a mix between Chinese and Khmer elements and it's great
mmmmmm the sound of culture bombing with holy sites....mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm
It’s based off of real tunes called Ly Keo Chai and Trong Com!
Can't wait!
This is going to be great
Ly Keo Chai - Drag Fishing Net(using for fishing in the sea area)
Giang Cau - Trap fish by Fishing Net(using for fishing on the river or flooded area)
Trong Com - Rice Drum(using for harvest fetival)
Like Gran Colombia, this music really caught my attention from the initial pre-First Look announcement video. It really captures that sort of Far East Asian style (as best as I know it, since I really know next to nothing about Vietnamese music), in a huge and orchestral way. The Medieval track is especially cool; often it feels like the Medieval tracks have a melody over a drone, which works fine enough, but here the Medieval European strings really off the Vietnamese instruments back and forth in a really cool way. This is likely to become my favorite Medieval track in the soundtrack overall.
Even in Vietnam, we rarely play traditional musics in that orchestral way. The medieval version is more popular. This soundtrack is really amazing.
Alright, that's it! I found my favorite atomic era remix of a theme. It's more subtle in its technological/electronic rendition, and it works out well
Our folk has the tell the legend about Bà Triệu like this:
"Dear my child, sleep as well.
So I can carry water to wash the elephant.
Go to the mountain and watch.
Watch Ba Trieu General riding an elephant and chasing away invaders.
Brocade bag mixed with silk bags.
Prepare betel for your dad, and wish him a safe return."
This is lyric of a Lullaby for exactly. And it tells about her.

I think that Medieval themes are usually the closest to what most of the themes should sound like
