Thank you so much for showing how to do this. I've seen other videos but nothing that showed exactly how to do it. I made one and it works great. Thanks again. Oh, and btw, I didn't have any foam lying around but I had felt and that works too. Didn't have to buy anything!
what a great pre-cursor to purchasing the 'real' deal if you need something bigger. Your idea is fabulous and I have everything here to make one. thanks Jen.
Awesome!! I wasn't sure how many people would have the magnetic sheets, those have been in my crafty space for years! lol So glad you can make it too! Let me know how it works for you, I love it! xoxo Jen
Jen, that's genius!!! I am going to my craft room now to make one! Thanks so much for sharing this. With both hubby & I on a fixed income, I could never afford a Misti, although I would dearly love one, but I CAN afford to make this! Everything is already in my craft room to make it! Thanks again!
Well Jen I figured it out after watching several times. I made one out of an empty dvd box without the disk holder. it works wonderfully but couldn't get my thin magnetic sheet to hold. I gifted it to my bestie and she loves it!! I dont always need people to answer for you guys are so busy. God Bless
Jen, thank you for this tutorial! I wanted a smaller stamp positioned but couldn't justify $50 for mini MISTI (although I'm sure it's great). I was able to make my own using your directions, things I had around the house and $2 for magnets! I'm thrilled 😄. You're the best!
So sorry I didn't see this video two years ago or whenever you first made it. This is an absolutely great idea and it really works. I do stamp classes in my home so I plan to make several of them to use instead of acrylic blocks. Instead of a foam sheet, I used the 12x12 piece of heavy cardboard that comes with a package of designer paper. Worked just fine. Thanks again.
OH! super! I'm glad this is still helping folks! I have a couple of those stamp helpers and to be honest, I rarely use them (the expensive ones). There are times when they are necessary though, and these are easy to pull out and store! Thank you for the comment! xoxo Jen
Jen just a hint, I have been buying Magnetic vent covers( cheap) at Menards and cutting them to fit my cutting dies, which I now am adding to a binder pages. I think this will be perfect for the magnetic element needed. Just in case someone doesn't have magnetic paper. And I am so happy to have made you smile. You are a wonderful addition to the crafting world my dear, and keep up the fantastic work! Hugs
You're a genius! I've been wanting the Misty and can't afford it right this minute, as it such a lot of money all at once. This is a perfect way for me to try it and I have absolutely everything in my craft area :-) I've really been trying to use what I have and this is another way I can do it. I can't thank you enough for taking the time and sharing this with all of us you're the best😁💞😎
Thanks Justine! I am so happy that you find it useful :) It took me like ten minutes to make the first one and then when I had the measurements, it took just a couple minutes! I hope you enjoy it and purchase the MISTI when you can afford it. I still want one! :) xoxo Jen
Thank you very much!!!😁 I found a hinged CD holder, by you showing each detail it will be sooo easy for me to make my own!!! I LOVE SAVING ALL THAT MONEY$$$$$ THANKS FOR SHARING!! GREATLY APPRECIATED!!!!😁💜
I have the larger misti but have been after a smaller more portable version to take away to craft. I have just made your version. Thank you so much for the video on how to make this. Just a tip for making it easier to pick the magnets, put some washi tape on them with an over lapping flap piece to enable easy pick up. I have very narrow washi tape that would be perfcect for that size magnet. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you!!
You're so welcome! I will dot he washi on my large magnets, but on some this small, the washi would make it hard for them to stay put especially through paper as well. Have a ball with your new stamp helper! xoox Jen
Oh awesome! Which one do you have? The regular or mini? Thanks for the awesome feedback, I hope it works out as good for you as it does for me! TFW!! xoxo Jen
I have a Misti, but I'm going to make this. You know us Crafters must have it all! Thanks, your was the easy I've seen. i haven't really looked at a lot of them. But i don't need to look anymore!
AWESOME VIDEO!!! I had several OLD cd cases on hand, but NEVER realized that the insert came out (duh....) and voila....you have saved the day!! SO GLAD I didn't pitch them all in my frustration of trying to figure out how to make a "stamping helper" but with getting that plastic circle thing out in middle of cd case...off to make me one. THANKS for sharing your idea!! Take care....subscribing also to your channel.
Happy to have you join my channel, thank you so much! I'm really thrilled that this was useful for you :) I do a lot of live streams showing different techniques. Wow. I have been wanting a MISTI but with champagne taste and lemonade budget it is out of reach. This is amazing. Can't wait to make one. Thanks Jen 😆
Just watched your video today then tonight had to make it since my ink is past it's prime and I don't have a re-inker for it. Thanks for saving my cards tonight!
You are always thinking outside the box and are so creative in ways that I can't even begin to wrap my brain around. I was just thinking of finally buying a Misti but not anymore.............I am not a big stamper so your idea will work great for me. I am new to your blog but will be taking a much closer look after finding two great ideas from you in two days. I'm subscribed also so I can catch any new ideas you come up with. I wish you the best with your infusions.
Thanks a bunch Ann! I'm so flattered and grateful to you for posting your comment! I would still recommend the Misti, it's a great product! I want one for the bigger cards I make that won't fit into my DIY :) Have a super day and stay in touch! xoxo Jen
Maureen, you are the sweetest! Thank you for making my morning filled with joy! Your comment was just the best!! I can't wait to see how yours turns out, let me know if you think of other creative things to make it better! xoxo Jen
Great idea! Your right it would be perfect for traveling because I wouldn't dare want to misplace my misti while out and about, where if this was for some reason to get lost you could just make another :) Thanks so much for sharing this idea!
Thanks!! Yep, I made three of them in a matter of a couple minutes. I'll leave one up north, one in my travel bag and one at home. Very handy!! xoxo Jen
Jen, this is just awesome! I hope to own a Misti someday, but unless I receive it as a gift I don't foresee me getting one. I am going to make this. Thank you so much.
Yeah, I was hoping to get one for Christmas too, but then I thought, it's like a door, what do I have lying around? lol I'm so happy it has helped you! Send me a photo of what yours looks like! xoxo Jen
Great idea!! Thank you so much for sharing this DIY! I wonder if it would work to replace the magnetic sheet & magnets with a "sticky mat" to hold the card stock in place?
Hi Jen, love this project. I have not been able to find the extra for a real misty and this will help until I do, plus I have a ton of cd cases that I am not using. thanks so much for sharing. Joyce
Thanks for the comment Joyce, me too!! I was thinking man I want that thing!! But the mini misti is like $50 with the real deal being $100? I'm not sure I'd use it enough to justify the cost. I will be adding it to my Christmas list! TFW!! xoxo Jen
Thank you so much! I am new to stamping and English is my second language but you explain it so well. I am not sure where to get so thin magnetic paper, though. But I can just use washi tape to stick the paper on. I can expand when I get better :-)
Hey Jen, great DIY! What's funny is my 3 magnets from my Misti jumped together and I can't get them apart, so stinking frustrating, but I went online and found out what to do to prevent it from happening again. Have a great weekend~
I saw that too! You can slide them apart (same thing happens with the tiny ones minus the breakage) or put washi on them, right? Thanks for the comment! and watching! xoxo Jen
Oh, awesome! Let me know how yours turns out! This is so simple and basic, I think most anyone can pull it off, of course, you might put something a little more creative into it. I can't wait to see!! xoxo Jen
Hi from Scotland I Absolutely positively LOVE THIS!! Lol Can't afford a Misti so this has cheered me right up and has made my day Seriously!! Sad I know But I can never get my stamps to work properly so this should help Very much appreciated hun I'm off to make one asap lol Thanks for the tutorial You Rock \m/. Tx
Seemingly doing good, lol! Hubby is learning to do things without his left index finger. So far so good. And YES I am making one either later tonight or first thing tomorrow...discovered I'm out of magnet sheet. Everything else is right here on my desk! YAY! How is all in your neck of the woods?
Extremely bust driving back and forth from Madison to Minocqua to work with my sister and see my family. I'm also working in trips to the hospital for IV infusions AGAIN! UGH. I feel great though! xoxo Jen Thanks for asking!
Oh for sure! I didn't like the price tag cause I wasn't sure I'd use it that much. So we will see the test of time with this little Mini Jen (as my friend calls is! lol) Maybe down the road I can use it in videos to show how it's holding up and what projects I was able to accomplish with it! xoxo Jen TFW!!
Jen Evers it's so funny because I think if the original Misti wasn't so ridiculously priced, more people would buy it, but because no one wants to pay $60-80+, that's why there are TONS of DIY versions out there. I don't understand why the original is so expensive. It's not like there are any mechanical or electronic parts to it. It is just a simple design.
Hi Jen, this is the first of your videos that I have watched and WOW am I glad I did. Girl, I watched a TON of diy "misti's" videos and either there were just too many steps to making it or I didn't understand the process. You made this so easy to understand how to make. Thank you so much!!!!! I really think you should call it "THE MINI" JEN POSITIONER. I do not have the magnetic sheet so once I finish typing this I will be on Amazon placing an order. I can't wait to get mine made. By the way.....I am now a new subscriber to your channel. Thank you so much!!!!!!!!!
thanks for sharing I was wondering how I could make one but I didnt want to end up on a trip to Home Depot looking for hinges and a way to attach them too much work for me lol so thanks again for your idea this works great for me
ohhh this is awesome my little girl loves stamping but gets disheartened if she mis stamps so Im gunna make her one of these I showed her your video and her eyes lit up so thank youuuuuuuu xxxxx
Hey friend!! Woo hoo!! I'm so glad I shared this so you could make one! I love mine, I made three and I use one for travel and keep one at my sister's place up north for when I feel like getting my craft on! Thanks for leaving me the wonderful note! xoxo Jen
Hi!! Thanks for watching! I'm guessing you're wondering if I have them written down somewhere? I don't I'm afraid, I just made this video on the fly one day while I was creating one for myself, just to share! You could get the measurements from the video, or have the kids watch it? If you have time, I could make a blog post including directions this weekend. Keep in touch, let me know if that would work! xoxo Jen
Yeah, many are using the picture frame IKEA sells that has hinges on the side, then just add magnetic paper and foam pad.. I wasn't able to find them here where I live at a price point cheap enough so I never made one. Good luck! xoxo Jen
Hi Jen, Tysmfs this great idea! Could u put the link to those magnets?...the ones i ordered for my refrigerator magnets are even smaller than those. I actually wanted the size u have. Hugs, Connie~
Not sure as they aren't available from the company I first bought from. Here is a link I found to something similar? You'll have to check that they are the size you want.. otherwise I suggest searching crafty stores or browse amazon.com. www.amazon.com/Fridge-Magnets-Refrigerator-Science-Crafts/dp/B01IT2DEP8/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1481216772&sr=8-2&keywords=small+magnets
Jen you are a freakin' GENIUS!!! That is so awesome!!! I have a full sized MISTI that I wouldn't trade for anything BUT this would be great for travel or for someone that can't afford a MISTI (they are pricy). I'm going to try this!!! All I can say is WOW....way to go girl :) Hugs...Janie
OMG, this is sooooo cool, thank You so much for the idea. I nave been thinking of how to do something like this. thaaannnkkkk You. I 💕 💕 💕 your tutorials. keep up and share awesome work with us :) greetings from Oslo ;)
Yeah, I was going to get the mini Misti until I saw the price was around 50 bucks. Then I realized I had seen a diy somewhere, but the only thing I had were CD cases, so I made mine super mini!! xoxo Jen TFW!
It does! Just what it's supposed to do, only thing is, this is good for small projects and card makers. I cannot do a full scene or anything like that, but I'm ok with it. It's going to be my travel Mini Jen as I use it up north at my sister's. xoxo Jen TFW!
LOL I love that you already named it, just shorten it to 'the Jen'! I think it is the simplest and easiest to make one I have seen yet, I am right now trying to remember where I tucked my foam sheets. Hugs!
Hi Marisa, the only way I could tell you that is if I went back to the video, paused it and counted. You're free to do so and I hope you won't think ill of me if I don't. lol I found a grid online, you can use any one that works for you! xoxo Jen
Can't wait to make mine. I watches several ladies making these DIY. But So far I have no idea where to buy anything for it. I got my cases from amazon. But not sure where to buy magnetic sheets, you said print your grin paper off line. Um from where. The rest I can now find since you said where to get them. Help Please.
what I used for mine you can find at most craft stores. go into a Michael's and ask an associate to help you find the materials you're missing. Wal-Mart carries it too I think. Xoxo Jen
I went digging after work for the link to the grid paper I found. I thought it was in the description bar, but I must've answered someone IM instead. My apologies. You should be able to find some with a simple google search :) xoxo
Made 9 today for crafty friends and myself. Thank you for the great tutorial!

I will certainly do that. And any good stationery store stocks magnetic sheets.
Awesome! xoxoJen
Genius my friend. I am going to do one for my granddaughter ...she loves to craft.
Thanks Carol. Happy Crafting!

I gifted it to my bestie and she loves it!! I dont always need people to answer for you guys are so busy. God Bless
That's awesome Raggedy!! I'm happy someone is getting use of it! I still use mine from time to time even though I bought the stampaholic :) xoxo JEn

Wonderful DIY--I bring one along that's just about the same size made by Surprise Creation I've had for years. Perfect size --yours!

What a great idea. I’m actually a little self-embarrassed that I did’nt think of this because I use these old CD cases for keeping my rubber stamps
No worries! I got the idea from someone else, I'm a Pinterest Junkie! And love blogs and such, all sorts of outlets for art browsing! xoxo Jen TFW!
thanks for sharing I was wondering how I could make one but I didnt want to end up on a trip to Home Depot looking for hinges and a way to attach them too much work for me lol so thanks again for your idea this works great for me

Do you have the directions for your delightful stamping helper! My 4-H craft club would love one for their tool box. it is awesome!
Keep in touch, let me know if that would work! xoxo Jen

Oh Jennie, you made my day! Thanks for leaving feedback! xoxo Jen
Us Jen's Jennie's Jennifer's gotta stay together.. Lol xoxo
This is ingenious! A tip for a larger device?
Yeah, many are using the picture frame IKEA sells that has hinges on the side, then just add magnetic paper and foam pad.. I wasn't able to find them here where I live at a price point cheap enough so I never made one. Good luck! xoxo Jen
Hi Jen,
Tysmfs this great idea!
What an awesome idea!
Love it!!!
Betty
Thanks so much Betty! :) xoxo Jen
Awesome idea! 💡
Thanks for watching Kim!! xoxo Jen
Jen, what size magnets are those? I have ordered some but don't want to oversize them. I am making stocking stuffers for my craft besties!
They are 1/4 inch wide, and 1/16 inch thick :) TFW!! xoxo (What an awesome idea!!)
that is perfect!!!!! thank you so much for sharing this 👍😀
You're so welcome, thanks for taking time to let me know you enjoyed it Mali!! xoxo Jen

Thanks Janie! :) I saw that others were trying to DIY it, so I took a shot too, using whatever I had laying around the craft room. xoxo Jen
Hi Jen! Very cool you clever one! Xoxo, CeCe

TFS-Hugs-Adriana
Yeah, I was going to get the mini Misti until I saw the price was around 50 bucks. Then I realized I had seen a diy somewhere, but the only thing I had were CD cases, so I made mine super mini!! xoxo Jen TFW!
looks like it works great!
Hugs!
This is so cleaver!
Thanks Shelia! :) I guess it was a mistake that the bubble paper got in there!! lol xoxo Jen
did not think to use my old cd covers thank you
Hi Roselin! Happy crafting! xoxo Jen
hello Jen Evers How are you? i love your video how many square is in the grid?
Thanks I went ahead and had hubby buy some at Walmart.
awesome!! I'm glad you got what you needed :) xoxo Jen
Oh wow!!!!! I love it. Girl you are a genius. LOL Thank you XOXO
Thanks! Enjoy :) xoxo Jen I like mine! (still want the Misti tho) TFW!!
