Great idea! just tried it and it works, I almost made the diy setup with the paint can until I saw this. The pump that he is using is sold at Lowe's home improvement, what you need to get is a siphon pump. This particular one is called the Arnold siphon pump at Lowe's and it is $12.98, and found it cheaper at harbor freight for $7 you will need electrical tape, and a disposable glove to make this work. The hose comes in the box so the only thing missing is a cigar, I do not smoke but I was able to find cheap cigars at 7 eleven. I hope this helps you guys who are looking to do this setup. Thank you @Jarrison Gonzalez for this great idea!

I did the same, only went hi-tech, and used a plug in an air pump that pumps up air mattress’s and the like. Works great, as you have a steady flow of smoke, and your hands are free so could looked from under the car, or move hoses, etc, if they are leaking around fittings, cracks, etc…
Hey guys just wanted to let you know that your method worked for me, in part because I don't have room for a big paint can tester setup, and the cost was right down my alley. Found the leak which was a hairline crack on the distribution piece that sits on top of the intake. $75 later the engine sounds much better! Mahalos!
Thanks for this video. I got a pump at Harbor freight today. I can't believe gas stations don't sell cigars. I used a thin black and mild. The only problem is that it went out before the engine filled up enough for me to find the leak. I'm thinking of building a paint can setup (using charcoal and baby oil inside) for the smoke instead of the cigar so that i will have more smoke to use.
DISA valve seal. I have an air leak somewhere throwing lean codes 227 228 IIRC. I took the DISA out and the seal looked ok but couldn't smoke test. Also suspect the oil separator.
+Danielle Ouano yes it was the DISA, if you look closer its not even an original part it says clearly CHINA lol.... replaced with genuine bmw part and problem solved
Can someone please help me out. So I tried this but when I did it, the MAF was sucking in too much air and it made my intake boot start to drag down and so I wasn't able to do it. Anyone have any clues why this could be?
I strongly recommend you edit this and describe what you are doing. Like how do you get the throttle body plate to stay open if it is a drive-by-wire system? Good video, just needs editing with some description of what you are doing. Looks like a DISA o-ring leak.
Thats no diffrence. have you ever oppened a manifold? Just look at what your EGR is doing to your engine. 1000x worse than a little tobaco smoke... tobaco smokes makes now diffrence

Thanks alot
Thank you for sharing the video and thank u for detailing the items y’all both rock!!🔥🔥🔥
I use half my blunt and my car started floating away
If you own a Rolls Royce use Cuban cigars.
Hilarious !
You saved me from getting a $65 smoke machine, thanks!!

great test, but for better results remove the engine covers so the intake better

just when you think you've seen everything😜

Bro! You are a genius!!!
It's both of them, and You know that 2 cabesas are better than one!
This clip makes me feel like I dropped acid
😼.
Hi mate, was this leak in the vacuum causing you to experience any misfires?
You absolute legends. Great DIY thank you.
Bmw 🤔 light me up owner... owner sure but if i get you high will you run better ? Bmw heck yea now light me up 😎
Man! You're a genius!!!
Brilliant! Thanks for posting!
Is the connection with the cigar and on the glove just regular tape?
Thanks so much my man! This truly saved me a lot of money & time.
Can you send the amazon link that you used air pump, i couldnt find that pump
How do you make sure the throttle body is open to allow smoke into the system?
The other smaller lines plus a valve under intake connect besides the electric throttle body lol I had to think on that one 😅
wow this is pretty smart, I gotta try this out tomorrow.
Genius.....lol. Thanks. Gonna try it this week.
That car gonna get intake manifold cancer
Great idea. Was it the DISA valve leaking?
+Danielle Ouano yes it was the DISA, if you look closer its not even an original part it says clearly CHINA lol.... replaced with genuine bmw part and problem solved
Jarrinson Gonzalez what issues were you having before changing the disa? Rough idle and random limp modes?
@@jaygonzalez1795 hi there, very informative video. Have a question, does vent valve have to be shut for this test? If so can I use an Autel scanner?
Where did you get all the stuff from
link to the siphon pump?
What ring size cigar are those ? Got the same pump kit but not a cigar smoker 😂
Beautiful!
Where can i buy this Pump ?
Harbor Freight
U are the MVP
wow, great idea...btw, you opened the engine oil cap. what does it mean if the smoke comes out of there?
he does that just to make sure that the engine bay is filling up with smoke, it is normal as the air travels into there for combustion purposes
Heh, awesome. I have the same pump so this should be easy
You re Bad Ass..thumbs up
Is that throttle body you have hocked on smoking pipe?
alend175 maf
Man! Thanks for video, it so helpful! I have a question, smoke out from engine oil cap? It is normal or not?
Not normal
that is what America is about.
Useful.
Tkx
Can someone please help me out. So I tried this but when I did it, the MAF was sucking in too much air and it made my intake boot start to drag down and so I wasn't able to do it. Anyone have any clues why this could be?
Idk if u solve it but when the MAF suckings too much it may be broken or dirty
good job premo
Good idea!!
That's clever
can anything be damaged by doing that?
no it won't damage anything
The intake will get cancer- oh wait, it has no lungs or bio-material.
Interesting
Next time use the 12v Lighter ;)
Yo is that a black n mild lol
😂 you should of gave it some weed maybe it might give you +10 HP.
heeheehee :d
John Kaing 🤔actually that what probably make it slower in the end...
John Kaing You are funny 👍👍
Car be like "nah maaan I ain't takin you to work today"
What is that you have in the pump that you're lighting?
a cigar

Don Olsen it stays slightly open when off
Yeah the TB blade is never closed completely, it's open maybe 20 degrees.
Plus the that throttle boot has a split that goes to the valve thingy by throttle body which goes to manifold Up top
I think I did something wrong. My engine smokes a pack a day.
And I quit smoking...
Don't understand-what is this actually testing for and telling you?
Vacuum leak that cause evap code and check engine light car wont pass smog with evap leak.
I'll do this but with electric pump
I need to do this
disa valve
😼.
Omg the amount of smoke leaking past the valve guides 😂
Coming from the oil filler hole, or where do you mean? And what causes it?
It's not leaking past the valve guides, it's coming from the intake via the PCV system.
Not good idea to inject tabaco into engine
lol why not haha
