lol you were accurate on so many of your guesses there. Probably my favorite Dreyfuss or Bill Murray comedy. Dreyfuss is also terrific in both the first and the 2nd 'Stake Out' films. He and Emilio Estevez made for a terrific comedy duo.

I really enjoyed this. So much more than with the cartoon face. Kudos to you for facing that fear/hesitation. You are a great reactor. Keep it up

I think the term for this kind of movie you're looking for is "screwball comedy" where an absurd plot just sort of unfolds in front of us with little rhyme or reason to it. Those types of comedies were invented and popularized in the 1930s and 1940s, but saw a brief resurgence in the 80s thanks to actors like Bill Murray, John Candy, Dan Ackroyd and Steve Martin.

You will like Bill Murray's "The Man Who Knew Too Little"

You mentioned that Monk has a similar energy… There’s a similar energy in the movie “Dirty Rotten Scoundrels” as well, in my mind…

Here's how much I love this movie: I don't care for POP Figures, but I do own two, my favorite Naruto character, and Bob Wiley, specifically from the "I'm Sailing!" scene. Also I bought the film on Laserdisc format a few years back.
It's a stellar comedy starring two great actors in two of their best roles.

Just Googled the figure! It looks awesome 😆 And to that you have the Laserdisc ... great collection!

I remember when this came out.. I was in my teens.. I was a huge Bill Murray fan.. and I was stoked for it. Which is why I was shocked when I left the theater not liking it. And I still don't. It baffles me.. I love Frank Oz, as a director, actor, and as a Muppeteer. I love Bill, Dreyfuss, and the rest of the cast. The reason why I don't think it works is... Bill is good at a very specific type.. snarky, smarmy, asshole characters that are usually the smartest guys in the room. Whenever he plays a "hapless", "dumb", or "unaware" character... to me, it comes off like he's in on the joke or is "above" the material. I never believe for a second that Bob is sincere.. it feels like he's trolling the entire time.. which if true, means Bob is a psychopath. For me, the comedy only truly works if Bob has no idea how obnoxious he is, but Bill leans into the dickishness with a knowing smirk.. and it kills it for me.

    • @latenightswithsammy
      @latenightswithsammy  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

That's an interesting take! I could defiantly see more of the 'trolling' side ... which as you said, makes him a psychopath. And I agree that now as I'm seeing more and more Bill Murray films, he does fit a very specific type ... and it is hard seeing him go the complete opposite in this film ... his face is just too smart and sarcastic to be, as you said 'hapless' 🤣 🤣

The John Candy film you may be thinking of is The Great Outdoors, also starring Dan Ackroyd. Really funny film. Great reaction to this hilarious movie! Richard Dreyfuss is such a versatile actor. I've never really been a fan of Bill Murray, though some of his movies are entertaining. I appreciate all the content you create for us!

Your enjoyment of my favorite comedy was so fun. I never thought of Bob as a sinister figure, as some suggest. He is an intelligent man who is not above using situations to get his way. But his sincerity shines through. Thanks. I’m still laughing.

    • @latenightswithsammy

That's true! He didn't really do anything with malice or evil intent .. and yes, just thinking of this film makes me laugh too 😂 Thanks for writing in!

Around 30:20 you mention "Maybe there are clues that he is a con artist". I don't think there are many, but one scene stands out to me: when Bob walks through the door of the vacation home to get his fish he says "Gill?" and looks at Leo quite aggressively. It doesn't fit in with his persona imo.

Starring Richard Dreyfuss and Bill Murray as a shrink whose patient is agoraphobic practically afraid of just about everything. Spending a summer with Dreyfuss, Murray gets better whereas Dreyfuss is losing his mind...literally

According to insiders behind-the-scene these two couldn't stand each other in real life Bill and Richard did not get along and the director did not help the situation any and he probably use their dislike for the hilarious outcome. Cuz if you look at certain scenes you can really see Richard Dreyfuss has anger it's so like real part of them we're not acting in this movie part of this stuff was real that's what makes it even funnier.

Disappointed !!! Too many critical parts were cut out and unnesseccarly shortened and you babble on and on and on !!! In the end I was simply annoid !!!!!😐😐😐😐😐

    • @latenightswithsammy

I appreciate your honest feedback, and am saddened that you were annoyed/disappointed. There's only so much of the footage I can show before it gets a copyright notice, hence why clips are shortened. And in regards to the babbling, it's something I've been made known of on couple of different episodes, it is actively something I'm trying to balance and improve upon.

@@latenightswithsammy I do apologize for being a little rough on you you just got me on a bad day !!! There were some good critical parts you did go past which probably bothered me more then your over communication !!!! When you across a funny or good part you seem to have a tendency to not let it finish out and edit it right in the middle of it !!!! I did seriously question the editing !!! Nothing intended to knock you down , I'm just picky !!!
