    Thanks for taking wide shots showing not just one plant at a time, but wider shots showing large sections. So many times people just show one plant at a time and you don’t get the full scope of the garden. Love it! Thank you.

    Hi! Your video popped up in my recommendations today and I am glad! I’m loving your garden and this tour! You have your own farmers market, grocery store, and food forest all rolled up into one. Sorry, but your carnation (😂) is dianthus. Coreopsis can be cut back. I cut mine by the stem only. A skunk tore up my coreopsis plants. I had to cut them down to the bare bones and they are beautiful and flourishing again. Thank you for sharing your garden with us. I am definitely going to subscribe 💚

    I have to say your garden is looking amazing. Everything looks lush. I wish I could say that about mine. I'm not having luck with growing from seeds. Either they don't germinate or they dampen off. It's discouraging. But I won't give up.

      @@YellowDoorUrbanHomestead Hi there. I recently switched from the Miracle-Gro Seed Starting Potting Mix to Jiffy Natural & Organic Seed Starting Mix. It is lighter than the Miracle-Gro. And I use a spray bottle and spray the seeds until they germinate. If they germinate lol. If roots form, I then switch to bottom watering. When I watch garden videos such as yours, it gives me hope that one day I'll get the hang of growing from seeds.

    Your garden is looking fantastic! Watch out for those borage and nasturtiums though ... they drop seeds like crazy and you'll find them popping up everywhere. I even have them growing out of cracks in the pavement in my back yard! Last year, I decided to grow nasturtiums in a couple of hanging baskets. What I didn't count on was wind blowing the seed pods into different parts of the yard. Now, I don't mind it at all, but it's rather surprising to see them popping up in places where you know you didn't plant them.
    Oh, and I too have potatoes growing in one of my compost bins. I had some seed potatoes that went bad, or so I thought. Next thing I know, there's all this luscious greenery growing in my compost bin! What's interesting is that the potatoes I planted around the same time have already been harvested. But the compost potato plants seem to be staying green and healthy probably because of the extra nutrients. So next year, I might use more compost in my grow bags where I'm growing potatoes.

    • @YellowDoorUrbanHomestead
      @YellowDoorUrbanHomestead  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thank you! I have heard and experienced that with borage lol. Like you I don’t mind. I enjoy both of those plants. Maybe I’ll have less to start next year if they self seed. Thanks for the heads up!
      It’s really cool, right? Have you noticed they also kinda take care of themselves. I rarely remember to water the tote b/c it’s not directly in the garden. The plants are still healthy and thriving.

    • @jwilli7434
      @jwilli7434 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@YellowDoorUrbanHomestead Yes, I noticed the same thing about the watering. I have a mostly container garden which is hooked up to drip irrigation on a timer. But I never water the borage and nasturtiums that are growing outside of my pots and the one or two garden beds that I have. And those "outlaws" seem to be doing better than my other plants!
      Yes, both plants will self seed. I had borage in a couple of pots a couple of years ago and they have self seeded all over the back yard. I will sometimes take a young seedling and move it to another location as they have shallow roots. Another flower that I found self seeds is Black Eyed Susans. I've noticed some coming up in one of my garden beds. Those were also initially planted two years ago and make a reappearance every year now.

    What a lovely garden! I just finished this morning planting my seeds. Zone 5b, so several weeks behind you. I have a separate polinator/butterfly/hummingbird bed. I spend a lot of time out there willing the flowers to sprout.

    • @YellowDoorUrbanHomestead
      @YellowDoorUrbanHomestead  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you! Ok that’s a great idea! I was hoping the flower bed would be a nice pollinator attractor, which it is, but next year I may use a bed in the garden for more flowers. Thank you for the tip!
