Very informative.. and almost spot on with my results. I was 160/80 6 months ago. Today, 115/70. I’ve all but eliminated salt and processed foods from my diet. I’ve also been making a Cardio Elixir with a Tbsp of Olive Oil, crushed Garlic, a juiced Lemon, Honey, and Cayenne and I do daily AbRoller workouts for core strength.

Just looking at the blood pressure machine makes my pressure go up.

I totally understand Helen. Thats why I like to do mine at home and get into a relaxed state before using it.

The assistant in my doctor's office makes no effort to follow your pre BP reading. I am only 5 feet tall and my feet cannot touch the floor unless I lean forward. Then my back is not supported. If I mention that to them they literally tell me it doesn't matter. I am a,retired nurse and I tell them it does. No change. I know I should inform my doctor but I hate to seem like a know it all. Yet he is dosing patient's meds based on the sometimes inconsistent readings. Just my opinion.

Every doctors office I’ve ever been to does the same thing. They ask you questions while you’re getting your blood pressure reading. They do not elevate your arm. They check other vitals at the same time. I now tell the staff that the doctor will take it while I am in with her. She is fine with taking it and does a great job. Oh, and by the way, I don’t have elevated blood pressure, and I don’t think it’s a lot to ask.

This is exactly why I recommend getting a monitor and checking at home, where you are most comfortable and relaxed. Just keep a journal and share the results with your doctor.

I refuse to let them check pressure in the doctor’s office. I tell them, if it’s so important, why don’t they get rid of the television in the waiting room?why don’t they give us a quiet place to wait? End of discussion. Btw I notice that one-third to one-half of heart attack patients have normal blood pressure. I can’t find percentages of people with high blood pressure who have cvd events. And finally you are very cavalier about bp meds. The side effects are horrendous for most people I know. Please give us studies and cite sources with absolute not relative percent risks and benefits.🎉🎉🎉

How long should one plan on to see if lifestyle changes are effective at lowering their blood pressure? I working out regularly (3-5x a week -~30 mins to an hour mix of cardio and strength). I’ve been losing on average 1-2lbs every two weeks. Have added a lot of elements of dash diet, and am trying to reduce sodium. But in general I’m not sure how long I should continue these approaches without medication. My BP averages around 130-135 systolic, and 85-90 diastolic. Should I wait a month,3 months, or longer to see if lifestyle changes are the right approach for me?

1 When batteries in bp machine wear out, you can get crazy readings
2 Hibiscus tea has antihypertensive properties
3 The European scale for BP is higher, less strict, whos right?
4 I think my beta blocker, altho very effevtive, gave me psoriasis

I find the ones over the elbow to be more accurate, but as long as you're checking at home and doing it often - it should give you a good range to check within.
