I just got into golf at the beginning of the summer and started taking lessons from an older gentleman that has a school at the local course and taught me the 3rd grip you showed, compared to what I first went to him with compared to now is night and day. Turning your wrist over like that with your thumb down the side of the grip is uncomfortable for me but I'm working on getting used to it. Great video lots of great info in it, thanks
The best thing that I did that changed my game forever, I’m left handed. I tighten up my left hand and the right was just hanging on. Amazing, my game is so consistent 78-82
This sternum at the tee to the front right of the ball is the BEST single tip for battling early extension and getting left hip depth! I am following and now watching your videos.
100 percent agree, strong grip is so much better. Don't know why many instructors try get everyone into neutral grip. Irons are much easier to get on the green.
Excellent tip regarding body action - much appreciated, Playing tomorrow and will try it. I think it will help because I sometimes hit it great but it draws left too much - that body focus will probably push the ball flight straighter.;
I've had periods in my life when I used the strong grip and hit it well z and sometimes duct hooks can you tell me what to look for to prevent that , thanks
I fought a very weak grip for years. Took a lesson and my instructor made my left grip stronger(I’m a righty) and it was amazing the difference in distance and consistency. In reality it’s closer to a neutral grip but feels strong to me. I experimented with a super strong grip but couldn’t handle it. Fought smothered hooks.
I started experimenting with a very strong grip earlier this summer. Within a week my shoulder felt like it was destroyed lol.... Use the grip that works for your body type! (However your hands hang-down naturally, at your sides. 90% of people fall into the neutral/strong category.)
Maybe you’re not short. Maybe you just don’t know your actual distances 🤷♂️ next round grab an extra club every approach and see where your shots finish
Not sure your tips lineup with the wrist data shown. Like you said you want to have your lead wrist flexed at impact and the trail wrist cupping which ensures shaft lean and compression. Your best results of this was the neutral grip. Your strong grip still gave you cupping of the lead wrist at impact (i.e. less compression).
I started playing 6 months ago, right off the bat I was hitting my irons pretty well. Couldnt drive or chip to save my life, but my irons were good in my opinion. Now I can't hit them at all, it is like I have forgotten everything. I am shanking and pushing so many balls to the right now. I barely ever shanked a ball even when I first started. It has me feeling defeated at the moment, my swing just feels very awkward right now and the results are showing
I just started doing this in my last rd. My distance was ridiculous. A full club difference. Sometimes 15 yards. I noticed I pushed a few right. Working on that now.
I like the bow feel, def hit it harder that way, but, do you bow at the top and the start of your backswing? Or would that close the club too much? What is the position at the top is what I want to know.
Hit 1over par today trying this silly strong grip. (I am 9hcp) My 9iron was going 20meters (25yrds) further than normal so my scrambling back from waaaay past the green was ok 😅 - Even did a semi-flop shot onto a downhill green still with a silly strong grip, I just opened face before keeping strong. Really cool feels. It only worked REALLY well when I felt like I was pushing my hands down as I took it away in one piece.
The death grip ... good luck with such a strong lead hand; if you achieve consistency with this grip, it's not because of it, but despite it. The best lead hand grip is when you face the target with the back of your hand and KEEP it STABLE during impact. The reason why most amateurs hit weak shots is b/ of a break-down of the lead (upper) hand. The best ball-strikers (Hogan, Norman, etc) were left-handed, yet played right-handed (same with Michelson vice-versa). That gives them a tremendous advantage of being able to keep the clubhead stable af through impact.
There is plenty of content that doesn’t hate on strong grips, but rather encourage it. It helps folks not have to over use their hands. Since changing to a strong grips, I achieved a much higher rate of consistency, having shot 65% GIR last I played. Not clapping back on your opinion, as it’s important for players to find what works best for them. I just wanted to offer a differing opinion that accounts for a different experience. Much of what Mike Malaska teaches emphasizes the strong grip and has helped my game immensely.
The third grip with lead hand is the grip bobby jones used, his trail grip was neutral with v's pointing to chin. He claimed your lead hand must be on top of the shaft. Indecently a lot of tour players has the same grip and can fade all day long.
An important tip is do not hit at the ball, if your hands lead the club head you will get an amazing strike, if you are flipping you won't you'll get a pull hook with zero lift
You should do a follow up to this where, if you overcook it you strike your short clubs but stop being able to hit long clubs with any dynamic loft and spend the next two years completely lost as your ball flight comes out at eye-level!🤣 That's what happened to me!
The problem with this lesson is it’s too close to saying something is bad and something is good. Club face rotation through the impact area is not a static rate between all people. Some rotate faster than others. You should try the full spectrum from weak to strong and see where you fall. A strong will help someone who FEELS like they have to flip the club to square the face. A weaker grip will be better if you FEEL like you have to hold the club face from flipping over.
MrShortGame did in no way try to upsell the product in this video.....he was using a tool to show others that don't have the tool.....to take a strong grip and to point your sternum through and to the right of the target at end of swing. I didn't sense anything that would require me to buy it. He hasn't show himself to be like that ever.
Get off youtube and go get a lesson. Stop trying all these tips and go have someone who knows what they're talking about actually explain to you what you're doing and why.
98% of the golfers who have won the Open or Masters have taken lessons from instructors who have not won the Open or Masters. Many extremely talented golfers can not teach - different skill set. Telling ain't teaching.
the sternum tip is what I needed, that is exactly the feeling or direction I want to feel with a stronger grip. I never realized how much the club wants to go left as I aim or feel like aiming to the right or a little ahead of the ball. I see now when they say golf is really played at 45 degrees.

Great little lesson. I appreciate you telling people they need to find what works for them and not assuming one size fits all!

love the video. my problem comes from not always standing the right distance from the ball. add in ball below/above feet and i guarantee a bad shot.
Shorty , What mat insert are you using ?

Awesome thank you. I was short 5-10 yards on my approach shots this past week. I’ll give it a try next weekend.

Welcome to golf, hang in there!!
Try standing closer to the ball and feel "taller" at address. This really helped me get over a shanky period. 😊
You have watched too many you tube golf videos and confused yourself. Go back to basics.
I just started doing this in my last rd. My distance was ridiculous. A full club difference. Sometimes 15 yards. I noticed I pushed a few right. Working on that now.
Keep at it - forget some comments …you doing amazing work 👏
I tried turning the left in, my 4 iron was hitting high like a 9 iron. It was good for awhile but didn't last?
Show the Bryson flighted control shot grip.
There are probably about 100 things you need to get "right" to execute good shot not counting the lie of ball, but yes, the grip is very important.

I wouldn’t say this outloud, but this strong grip and the pushing down as I took it away gave me a proper “I feel like Phil feeling” - No kidding!!!!
To be fair, I got the push down feeling from @claws_effect and the MUST GO STRONG from here :)

So are you saying don’t use a strong grip with the lead hand?
You’re a PGA Teaching Professional???

Hogan was a hooker…. If you do a weak grip that will cause slices… don’t listen to a nobody
Are you a pga teaching professional?

Make a video where you do this with a 3 iron
with that strong grip I will hook every shot
I love it all 🎉

Video too long for me.
It’s always 90%.

Do you better for having shared that? 🙄
Can U ever get to the point? What's all the cutesy verbiage? My head hurts
A classic video to promote a gadget...
Do you know what your wrists are doing throughout your whole swing? I’ll assume not. I tried a hack motion at a fitting, and it was game changing.

@@MrICURNVS Yes agreed....BUT.....it is pretty expensive even at a reduced rate of $245 for most golfers with families or fixed incomes.
Agreed.. I don’t play anywhere near enough to justify it.. but if you can find a coach / lesson who has one it is worth it
What's wrong with promoting something that works🤔
