This is one of the most important videos most people need desperately to strike a golf ball. Ryan is a genius sharing this intelligence free of charge. Thank you Ryan. 🙏
Chris, you are such a great teacher in these videos. I've been playing for 45 years and seen a lot of excellent coaches both in person and on line but your videos are the best I've seen. Keep it up chap 👏
You've explained this SO well. I noticed best shots were when I really turned those shoulders on the backswing; now I know why! I love my HackMotion, but it's very frustrating to try to fix the wrists by focusing on the wrists, it can't be done. You have shown why one has to follow down the chain of grip, arms, and shoulders to fix the wrists.
I sorta knew this but the way you explained it still really helps the way I perceive it. 'Not something you put in' but rather 'something you take out' = mind blown!🙃
Great tools to use on one of my biggest problems, the cupped wrist. I’ve been trying focus on flattening my wrist, to mixed results, but now I’ve got a better option
Got to be honest, when I saw another Hack Motion video, I was going to leave, but I like your stuff, so I stayed to the end, and glad I did. You explained it fantastic and didn't try to hard sell me. Would never buy one, so thank you for doing another great video.
I was the same, Hackmotion is hacking me off, expensive in the extreme, its because every golf creator on YT is sponsored in some way by them. I will not buy one, not least because of the ongoing subscription. I will not wait until the end, refuse to watch hackmotion videos period.
@@ChrisRyanGolfthanks for using the hack motion in this video. Wouldn’t have been an effective lesson without it. Appreciate your instruction, have learned so much!
Chris, I'm new to your channel, but these few videos I've watched are absolutely genius. And they're easy to understand for an average hacker, like myself! I had no idea my body and my grip were causing my wrist to cup! This is the best explanation, AND CURE I've ever heard! Thank you my friend!!!!
Best explanation of wrist cock I’ve seen. Taking out rather than adding. Never considered that as a reality. I’ve been trying to remove variables in my swing for better consistency. This finally makes sense now. I’ve always considered wrist cock to be an added variable when it is actually the opposite. One of those lightbulb moments for me! Thank you!
LITERALLY MIND 🤯🤯🤯🤯🤯🤯🤯🤯🤯 BY 3:43mm I had to stop watching for 15min just to process that aha moment. This video is why I spend hundreds of hrs watching swing videos. That 1 new learning point.🎉🎉🎉
I've been ROBBED ! Of power and accuracy by a "wandering" club position in the lead-hand. Without noticing, it went all "palmy". Thanks Chris ! An AMAZING and UNIQUE video ! 🤗
Great explanation 👍🏻 I recently found if I keep my elbows closer together (that is, my right elbow IN) results in much straighter shots. Now I know why. Your explanation and demo is so enlightening. Thanks 🙏🏻
another super video! still struggle with my wrist in the backswing sometimes. wasn´t aware that my right arm might be the main reason, I will try soon. thanks alot for your great videos!
I think Chris would agree that they both have a place in the TH-cam community. Chris is without doubt a better teacher and that’s why I watch his videos. Rick is Golf TH-cam royalty and that’s why I watch his videos, collaborating with people like Bryson will bring an audience.
Love it, but I can tell you a real frozen trail shoulder will shorten and shallow your swing. Cannot externally rotate the shoulder or lift your hands above it. I had one for nearly half a year. One benefit: I can now hit a hook on command😊
Thanks, Chris. Great video. One point of clarification: at what stage of the swing should the ball drop out from between our forearms/elbow? Top of backswing, impact, follow-through, etc.?
Very good lesson! I always try and get my right palm, I'm right handed, facing the sky like I'm holding a tray of food at the top of my swing.that keeps my elbow in.
Hey Gary, a few have asked this so think I’m going to do a follow up video, but essentially no that number would be slightly different and would also depend on some other swing factors
Not always no, as long as the club head gets back to the ball that’s the key, the angle is almost always going to be different, but no need to think about that in the downswing
I’m currently debating the Dewiz vs the Hackmotion. Doesn’t seem like Dewiz invests as much in endorsements but it still looks like quality kit with a lot of good data.
Hi Chris, I’m following you for a while and „this secret” is another great tip from you, thanks. The focus here is on the left hand, but to complete the picture could you demonstrate how to place your right hand in the grip, (e.g., are you doing it in a similar way?), and how your right wrist should „behave” during the swing. Thanks in advance for the tip in this regard. Best regards J
You talked about ulnar deviation at setup and taking it out in the backswing but do you reapply it at impact? Also is it the same ulnar deviation at setup with the driver and woods? Tks.
Never ever considered this ulna deviation down cock (lead wrist set) before. I think I must have had some but probably no where near enough. I’m assuming the taking this out motion is where you press down on the handle of the club with the butt of your lead hand. So you put it in at set up to be able to take it out by lead arm parallel in the backswing to elevate the club. Very good.
😎Learning the Hogan grip as the first step in learning golf sets all the correct movements to follow so you never have to concern yourself about whether or not you're going to have the proper "Snap" in the swing. Daily grip discipline is essential to building a solid foundation to your swing. Thank you Ben...I mean, Mr Hogan.
What about video prior discussing simply set arms and then turn shoulders? Isn’t that wrist set a bit different , more an angle cock vs ulnar/radial move?
Thank you!! One more thing to check in my videos!! I have done the ball between forearms to help stop a chronic pull shot. It really makes you turn better. Haven’t looked at my right arm position though.
I prefer a neutral one piece move away with my core (belly button & shoulder pivot) to 8 o’clock first. Initially with no wrist hinge at all and no forearm rotation to 8 o’clock. Then I like to blend right wrist hinge (what I call setting the trail wriist) and blending this pressing on the handle with the lead hand / left wrist to do what I call cock the lead wrist up. Chris what you call reverse set of the lead wrist having set it at address. I find I don’t need to think that much about the wrist cock upward motion but I do have to consciously think about the right wrist hinging back on itself. I think this is an area where a lot of amateurs get it wrong, I certainly did for years. Too much emphasis on wrist cocking but not enough of the trail wrist hinge as you rotate your lead forearm and fold your trail / right arm.
Watch all the pros..well most of the great ones..they do not arch their wrists..Hogan did..i don't think it works for amateurs without proper lessons to prevent snatching the club underneath. Admire your teaching though
I am just amazed that these golf instructors can just keep pumping out videos of the same stuff with slightly different wording and we all keep watching it. Go play golf..

Excellent lesson! I’ve struggled with getting wrist set and this was so simple, no extra thinking needed past the set up.
Crystal clear teaching!

Great video, I've been working on these exact positions and your explanations give an easier perspective for working on them!
Thanks hope it helps
I definitly did not know this. This info is a game changer for me. Thank you.

Well done Chris 👏

Great explanation 👍🏻

That would be the Ben Hogan swing. If you look at Hogans swing his elbows are always in and his swing is just buttery....
Brilliant insights! One of the best coaches on YT. Thanks Chris ❤
That makes a lot of sense, elbows close is definitely a good thing
A lot of great information there. Thanks for the video!

Great info! Is this just for irons, or for driver as well?
Superb video Chris, with the numbers and down to the root cause 👍👏
Very good lesson! I always try and get my right palm, I'm right handed, facing the sky like I'm holding a tray of food at the top of my swing.that keeps my elbow in.
Great video Chris, so clear! One question, if my wrist are at -47 ish at address, am I trying to get back to that at impact? Would love to know!
Hey Gary, a few have asked this so think I’m going to do a follow up video, but essentially no that number would be slightly different and would also depend on some other swing factors
I’m new to golf and find your clips very helpful. So at impact the idea is to get back to 41 degrees ? Thanks
Not always no, as long as the club head gets back to the ball that’s the key, the angle is almost always going to be different, but no need to think about that in the downswing
great video, thank you!!!
Thanks
I’m currently debating the Dewiz vs the Hackmotion. Doesn’t seem like Dewiz invests as much in endorsements but it still looks like quality kit with a lot of good data.
Not used the Dewiz, but can tell you that the HackMotion is super accurate and so easy to use

Great video, what a light bulb moment!

You talked about ulnar deviation at setup and taking it out in the backswing but do you reapply it at impact? Also is it the same ulnar deviation at setup with the driver and woods? Tks.
Yes you do take it out however it’s pretty natural in the downswing so rarely require a conscious thought
Very good
Thanks
Chris = God!
😂😂thanks I’ll take that 🙌

Would either of these two tips affect hitting behind the ball or topping the ball which I am are chronic mistakes of mine.
Probably not directly, but everything is connected so it could well influence other parts of the swing which may then help with the strike
Interesting… never saw this wrist set technique before.
What about video prior discussing simply set arms and then turn shoulders? Isn’t that wrist set a bit different , more an angle cock vs ulnar/radial move?
Hey Jack, can’t recall which video that was im afraid. Shouldn’t be different though as these two moves are in all swings
Thank you!! One more thing to check in my videos!! I have done the ball between forearms to help stop a chronic pull shot. It really makes you turn better. Haven’t looked at my right arm position though.
Do you push down on the handle on takeaway
Technically you probably do yes, but it’s not always conscious, for some it helps to think of that but sometimes it can be fairly natural
I prefer a neutral one piece move away with my core (belly button & shoulder pivot) to 8 o’clock first. Initially with no wrist hinge at all and no forearm rotation to 8 o’clock.

Wow this wrist set explainer is the best I’ve ever tried. Does this work with every club in the bag?
It does yes, all clubs 🙌
think I've been doing this by accident, i grip the club parallel (handle towards me and club head straight out) in an effort to get it in my fingers.
Perfect! That’s a great way to do it
Wrist set, early, is a killer.. get more lag and power from downcocking start of downswing.. but everyone different i guess.
I wouldn’t disagree with that, guess in this video I wasn’t really covering the where but more the how, although in the drill it was done early
How to improve your golf game... Spend £400 🤣 great video nonetheless and the key concept is there
Takes money to make money homie
You don't need the tech, just be conscious of the positions!
Watch all the pros..well most of the great ones..they do not arch their wrists..Hogan did..i don't think it works for amateurs without proper lessons to prevent snatching the club underneath. Admire your teaching though
Are you referring to the first part of this lesson or the second part?
I am just amazed that these golf instructors can just keep pumping out videos of the same stuff with slightly different wording and we all keep watching it. Go play golf..
😁 golf swing hasn’t really changed that much over the years so almost all videos will be the same topic
Don’t make excuses the greenskeeper isnt the problem homie
So the Wrist set correctly at address does not correct all swing flaws… body must move correctly in backswing..
Yes, this gets you off to a good start but other things need to be in place throughout the swing too
Who cares about all the degrees,numbers…..just show us the grip
Brilliant lesson
Thanks
