I've got a customer with a 2015 chevy 3500 high country, he tows a 53 ft horse trailer all over the country and the truck has 641k miles. We change the oil every 5k miles, and fuel filters every 10k miles. We changed the the transmission fluid and filters when they have 450k miles on them (way over due but this was when I took over maintaining the truck) the fluid still looked brand new, the filters looked great and the magnet in the pan had almost nothing on it. The only issue this truck has is a mysterious coolant loss, but an oil analysis shows its not an internal issue, its a slight external leak that only happens at certain engine Temps. This truck will get to 1 million miles without a doubt

@@CFarmer Luck is not a factor, its more of how a Truck is designed and built. That will dictate for the most part how much time and money a truck will require to repair and maintain.
Okay, enjoy your new truck, lol... at 300k miles send me the link to your review video. Don't forget the disaster kit for the CP4 . Enjoy the new truck sir. Thank you for watching
This is what I'm talking about. All these channels talk about reliability but have less than 10k miles on the truck. Doesn't even scratch the surface of it.
Thank you, it's at 447k miles today and i have a leaking exaust manifold gasket I'm working on. Overall for the miles and abuse i have no complaints about the truck. At the pace I'm going ill be doing a 500k review video in a few months. I'll tell all repairs that I've done since the 300k review video. Thank you for watching and thank you for your comment!
I’m a roofer contractor so I have a 17 GMC Denali 2500 and have 150k on it bought it new in San Antonio at Cavender GMC currently some of the stuff you mentioned I’ve had. Also the pitman arm is an issue replaced with a moog so far it’s better than GM’s version. Suspension issues front end these things wear the lower ball joints if you live in a pot hole heavy city. Also that dash rattle GM needs to address coming from the heater lines they say zip tie them they are insane. Overall it’s a good truck so recommend leveling these but not lifting them if your going to Tow. I’ll heed your advice on the transmission cooler protection. I’m about to do the first transmission fluid change. Thing I hate is that if the check engine light comes on there’s no more auto start until you clear it!
@@CFarmer yes pitman could be pot hole related I live in Houston and let me tell you it’s pot hole heaven don’t know if you’ve been but I can assume if I was driving long distances like yourself those issues might not be.
Look at the different companies websites and see what their requirements are and call the recruiting departments and ask as many questions as you can then when you think you found a company that will be a good fit apply and it goes from there. Some companies are- Indiana transport, jimbo and co,synergy, wave, horizon and star fleet there are more but that's a few off the top of my head. Google them and see which company seems like the best fit. each company will have different requirements
Awesome! I watched the whole thing. Im looking at two 2017 3500 crew duallys 4x4s one with 141,000 the other with191,000. Both with nice CM flatbeds. They are being sold on an online auction which has videos of them running & driving. The service has been done by the const company since they were new. What if any are your thoughts? Thanks ahead of time! PS I will be using the truck to tow a 17500 3 axle toy hauler
Outstanding video with an excellent review of your truck! You inspire me to keep really good notes on my vehicles now. I guess you did this video before you encountered the airbag malfunction. I hope you tell us how that was resolved one day. God bless & safe travels
Thank you, I'm still working on air bag issue. Looks like I'll have to buy a controller but having trouble finding just the controller. Thank you for your comment.
@@CFarmer There used to be a company called module masters. They repair vehicle electrical modules. I haven’t used them in several years but they repaired the power break module on my sons VW Passat. A new one was almost 2k, and they repaired it for $75 and warrantied the repair for 5 years. He sold it about 7 years later and it was still working great. We removed and shipped the module and had it back in about 7 days. They might be worth a call.
Thanks so much. I have less than 100k and I've noticed it has started to run rough while it was warming up in cold weather. Sometimes the truck is running in place for 20 minutes. I live in rural Maine and use the hot shot additive ....and I use the same fuel stations like you suggested. Would one of those injection connections be acting up so soon
Thank you! From what I've seen, the injector connectors will usually have a pretty aggressive intermittent miss before going out that I've usually noticed while driving. It could be but I'm thinking it may be something different. If i ever feel the miss from a connector it's only a few days later I get a bad mis and a code. I wish i could be more help
@@CFarmer thank you very much…i appreicate you trying to help me out especially around xmas,,,,,ill go have it checked out on monday….god bless enjoy the holiday. I hope you are taking it easy..
His DPF lasts mostly because he runs the road at speed constantly which allows full Regeneration cycles. Plus under load so he's got plenty temperature burning of what can be, all throughout the engine. Idling and especially constant short trips are DPF killers.
Great information! I currently do hotshot with a 2020 3500 SRW High Country (didn't buy it for this reason, but it just happened that way) truck has almost 96,000 miles on it now. How often do you do differential fluid and transfer case fluid changes? How many transmission fluid and filter changes have you done? Have you done a coolant flush?
Thank you! I dropped the ball on coolant flush and haven't done one yet but i try to do internal transmission filter, both differentials and transfer case close to every 100k miles. I've changed them 3 times coming up on 4 and will be changing coolant this time too
@Javier Ramirez I've replaced the injectors for cylinders 1, 3, and 5 so far. When 5 went out, I thought it was the damn pcm or something. Lost a lot of power, and was getting messages for the exhaust system
i ordered a 2022 3500 HD LTZ 4x4 srw 4 weeks ago. Hasnt been accepted by GM yet. I didnt see the part number for the flashing lights. Anyway you can post it on here?
Excellent videos - really enjoy watching/learning, With the non-slider Companion hitch what settings are you using for the pivot arm placement? Elevation/offset. Thanks!
Thank you! It's been a while since i put it together. I would have to go back and look. I will but it may take me a while. I started all the way back and all the way up but I'm thinking i moved it back down a hole

I started running hot shot secrets at 200k miles. Nothing before that. I haven't seen a noticeable difference with our without. I'm becoming a believer in that stuff too. Thank you for your comment. Hope this helps
Awesome informative video! Thanks very much, we got a 2019 (converted to right hand drive) in New Zealand for towing purposes, love the truck. Have you ever considered a "Banks Derringer" unit to monitor / control your trucks systems? We've looked hard at them but don't do the miles you do. Thanks again for the informative video Cheers
Thank you for the awesome comment. I did look at the i dash before i bought the cts3 but i liked the layout of the cts3 better. With the miles i have on the truck I'm afraid if i change much it'll cause issues but i have heard good things about the derringer. I would be more likely to try it if the truck had less miles
@@CFarmer Thanks for the reply! I'm pretty much at two minds about making changes to the truck, we're not big mileage users and for what we're doing I love the power and fuel use ($5:42 USD per gallon) in NZ, but it gets the job done. We tow a double horse trailer and a 20 foot off-road caravan. But I reckon the derringer / iDash could be the business for us. Happy trails
Just rolled over 230k today. I had to do all 8 injectors and a couple of injector connectors in 2020 around 170k. I’ve got a code for a NOx sensor. So I’ve got that one coming very soon. I love mine overall. I’ve hauled a lot of boats, Mastercraft, Moomba, Supra, Sea Ray, Aviara (demo on gooseneck trailer), Malibu, Axis…and then hotshot with a 40’ gooseneck, loaded down with about 32k gcwr max (almost sucked the air filter through the intake). I’ve had mine since new, and I had the metal shavings in the fuel filter (injectors). It’s pretty strong still to have as many miles as it does. I may have a rear main going out.
I have a NOx sensor error right now, I would like to know what the fix was? And the metal shavings, did you end up replacing the entire fuel system and the fuel pump?
I replaced the position 1 nox sensor first then around a year later i had a code for the position 2 and replaced it.i would have to go back and watch the video, not remembering metal shavings in my Duramax but there was in my buddies dodge. We replaced the in tank pump on it. My fuel system is completley stock with no issues on the l5P
great vid wish i had your knowledge on these trucks. i do have a question or looking for advice. Mine is a company truck that i pull my 41 ft fifthwheel to alot of nascar from ontario canada. would you think it would be a good idea to have all 8 injector connections as you call them changed. My only issue which i just had was nox sensor last trip and a glow plug which they have changed 8 of them so far.
Thank you! I think it's a good idea to change all 8 especially if you have any reason to have them exposed anyways. So far I've not had any I've replaced fail like the originals
If this truck was Fully deleted you wouldn’t have the egr in the way when doing inj. connectors-also. do all inj. connectors @ 1 time not randomly on the side of the road -now back to being fully deleted ,it also would have cut your repairs in half I’m sure & the truck would be tuned so you would be getting a few more miles per gallon 👍🏼
@@CFarmer She idles a lot, so we did all 8. oh that was a fun one. finish it up tomorrow. driver side rail also. she wants to read 50,000 psi... under power.
Could you please do a video on greasing the upper tie rod ends, I’m going to try again tomorrow but haven’t been able to get my grease gun on it. Was going to buy a 90 degree grease gun adapter but if I don’t have to that would be great. Thank for all the great info
I will, I'm in Florida now so it'll be a couple of days when i get home. If you can get someone to tien the wheels slowly while you watch the grease fittings it would help you find the right spot
I test drove a few. Ford suspension super stiff/bouncy. The 17 Ram with 120,000 drove as crappy as my 06. Chevy had zero complaints everyone I drove. Ford and Ram I kept pointing things out. Happy with my 18 Duramax.

I'm so glad you brought that up. Honestly it had slipped my mind. I haven't figured out where to put it up yet but i will. Email me at cfarmeronyt@gmail.com and I'll try to send copies tomorrow. I need to type them out so they're easier to read
As far as pulling campers with semi I've never even looked into it. I have a friend that pulls with a semi for Indiana transport but I've never even asked what the rates are. I wished i could be more help but i figured if i did ever get back in a big truck i would go back to hauling steel. If you're asking about transporting the new trucks like i was doing before i started pulling campers, it was enjoyable driving the new trucks but the money wasent that good and the company i was with was a joke.

Do you have to add any oil between changes? Also what oil do you use? I started out using the full synthetic Rotella t6 and now it’s impossible to find and when I do find it it’s outrageous expensive.
So far i haven't but if i go over it will use some. I just use rotella 15-40 non synthetic with 2 quarts of lucas but any rotella getting hard to find.
I am new to you channel and find your videos very help. I have just bought a used 2019 Silverado 3500 with 90k. I am having a issue and wanted to see if you could point me in the right direction. My check engine light is on and it’s giving code P2A00 which is Nox sensor, I have changed the sensor but 5 miles down the road it comes back on. I was told this cold be a injector issue. Any knowledge or advice will be greatly appreciated.
I'm not really sure. I had that code along with a couple others and replaced #1 nox sensor and mine was good. When i had to change the #2 sensor i cleared the code and it came right back but after about 50 miles it went away on its own. Any other symptoms or codes?
@@CFarmer No other codes that I have been aware of, also with the check engine light on the truck is driving and sounding just fine. I been doing a little research and I have seen people that have less miles and even brand new trucks that gave the same code and after the dealership changing 3-4 other things it end up being bad injectors so I was just asking.
I wish i could be more help but i haven't had any experience with that yet. I'll keep thinking on it and ask a few of my mechanic friends and see if i can come up with anything. When you get it figured out i would like to know what it was. I'm still learning too and maby your experience could help me help someone else. Just a thought but have you checked or cleaned the mass air flow sensor? I've seen guys talk about it getting dirty and throwing the system off. You keep excellent records on that truck... Great video.
Thank you
I run Transynd in the Allison and I run Stanadyne fuel system additive for lubrication.
I wish i had started with transynd fluid but i hate to change with so many miles on the truck. When i was researching additives stanadyne and one other i caint remember the name of came out better than hotshot secrets but i had a hard time finding it on the road so i went with hotshot secrets because it was easier for me to get. Good stuff though
Oil I use Royal Purple Duralec Ultra 15W-40 and I installed a PPE aluminum oil pan.
It's time for mine to get a oil pan gasket so I've been thinking about the ppe pan
Super informative!
Thank you!
Thank you for the Video ,
You just inspired me to buy a Ford Truck.
Your welcome, good luck with the new truck
@@CFarmer Luck is not a factor, its more of how a Truck is designed and built. That will dictate for the most part how much time and money a truck will require to repair and maintain.
Okay, enjoy your new truck, lol... at 300k miles send me the link to your review video. Don't forget the disaster kit for the CP4 . Enjoy the new truck sir. Thank you for watching
@Hector Ortega Luck is not a factor😆😆 Go ahead and get that Ford, you're gonna learn real soon.
Thank you for the info sir. !!!!!
Thank you for your comment sir. I appreciate it
I’m a roofer contractor so I have a 17 GMC Denali 2500 and have 150k on it bought it new in San Antonio at Cavender GMC currently some of the stuff you mentioned I’ve had.
Good looking truck, i haven't had any issues out of the pitman arm yet but with the miles i know it's about to be one thing after another
@@CFarmer yes pitman could be pot hole related I live in Houston and let me tell you it’s pot hole heaven don’t know if you’ve been but I can assume if I was driving long distances like yourself those issues might not be.
I think that's the majority of reason I've had such good luck is mostly interstate driving
Hoping my 2021 GMC 2500HD L5P holds up like this one!
I hope so too
5:55 I'm at 82k on my '20 Duramax and that NoX sensor is throwing errors
I highly recommend Primrose 5007 fuel additive
I have a 2018 l5p, how do I go about getting started in Rv transport?
That would be awesome! I'll look for them
Thanks so much.
I enjoyed it! Keep it very helpful thank you!
Thank you!
had any issues with the entertainment screen? Mine constantly changing stations and inputs by itself. It can be areal headache.
I haven't myself but i know other people that have. I don't know about the fix
I've changed them 3 times coming up on 4 and will be changing coolant this time too
@@CFarmer Awesome! Appreciate the feedback!
Anytime
I got 400000 miles on 2019 3500 damn injectors have been replaced truck has left me on side of the road about 4 times goes in to limp mode a lot
The mirror lights mod is from boost autoparts and the factory strobes are part of the autosync programming. Wasent sure which you were referring to?
Thanks for great info. Very helpful. Sam C.
Thank you for your comment. I'm glad it helped
Solid info
Thank you!
Thanks for the video man
Thank you for your comment
Fleece and Deviant offers very good transmission lines which are far superior to stock.
Thank you, I'll have to check them out
Wow had I had same issues with injector wire and nox sensor 1 at exact mileage. Coincidence?
Could be, seems like a few ppl had the same issues around same time
Cts3 has a bar now that mounts to your grab bar. I have it in my 18 gmc duramax
@@CFarmer I am currently at 7" behind the post with the post (furthest back) in the highest position. This locates the pin 1" behind the axel. I do have Timbrens installed on the 2015 GMC 2500HD LML Std. bed. Pin weight 2,900. Hoping to learn from your experience from moving the pivot arms. Thanks!
Do you run any fuel additive’s? I’m sorry if you already covered this. Thanks, Angel
I started running hot shot secrets at 200k miles. Nothing before that. I haven't seen a noticeable difference with our without. I was starting to get *DPF low flow* check engine light pretty regularly when truck wasent on interstate and i started using lucas DPF cleaner at 300k and the light seems to stay off now.
Thanks again for the informative video
Cheers
I'm curious how you like it if you decide to get the derringer . Let me know if you would
Just rolled over 230k today.
Sounds like you work yours pretty hard too. I love mine too. Wouldn't trade it for a brand new one. I hit 400k last night :)
I thought my rear main was leaking turned out to be the oil cooler. That was at 20k miles. Oil runs down the bell housing if that’s bad.
O dang, I've been looking at changing the oil cooler on mine to a upgraded one but i would've never expected a leak from there
I have a NOx sensor error right now, I would like to know what the fix was? And the metal shavings, did you end up replacing the entire fuel system and the fuel pump?
I replaced the position 1 nox sensor first then around a year later i had a code for the position 2 and replaced it.i would have to go back and watch the video, not remembering metal shavings in my Duramax but there was in my buddies dodge. We replaced the in tank pump on it. My fuel system is completley stock with no issues on the l5P
Great video!! You and Mr. Tennessee do a fabulous job. Would love to make a trip or two with you guys.
Thank you! We'll be leaving for California in the morning
@@CFarmer maybe next trip. Im just coming out of upstate NY on my way home. Been out for about 13 days and the boss wants to see me..lol
Gotcha, well be safe out there and enjoy your home time
great vid wish i had your knowledge on these trucks. i do have a question or looking for advice.
Do you use full synthetic engine oil? I run Shell Rotella T-6. I also run full synthetic in the axles and transfer case
Great video’s
Thank you!
Would you recommend this engine and truck as a daily driver? i want to buy one that has 149K on it.
I got one for the CTS3. Part number: 28600.
Cool, I'll look it up
👍
If this truck was Fully deleted you wouldn’t have the egr in the way when doing inj. connectors-also. do all inj. connectors @ 1 time not randomly on the side of the road -now back to being fully deleted ,it also would have cut your repairs in half I’m sure & the truck would be tuned so you would be getting a few more miles per gallon 👍🏼
Can you do rv transport with a deleted truck?
Have you looked at all the new L5p gear from banks , ?
I haven't looked latley
My 19 ate #7 injector and connector at 170k, we tow heavy at altitude.
Ouch, hope that's it for a long time for you
@@CFarmer She idles a lot, so we did all 8. oh that was a fun one. finish it up tomorrow. driver side rail also. she wants to read 50,000 psi... under power.
I bet so, dang
HOLY MOLY SHE'S A NEW TRUCK!! :)
@@CFarmer thanks, I appreciate it. And thanks for the tip I’ll give it a try.
I use a flexible end I bought at Napa to hit all the grease fittings on our GM trucks
I bought the 90 degree and it worked but then i saw i could do it with a straight if i had the wheels slightly turned. A flexable end would be nice
Would you recommend a new L5P for hotshot or would you recommend Ram or Ford instead. Any help would be awesome thank you.
I have never owned a Dodge or a Ford so I'm kinda biased on the l5p. I wished i could be more help. I know guys who have had good luck with all 3
@@CFarmer thank you for your time the Chevy probably rides the best.
I think so but i am a little biased
I test drove a few. Ford suspension super stiff/bouncy. The 17 Ram with 120,000 drove as crappy as my 06. Chevy had zero complaints everyone I drove. Ford and Ram I kept pointing things out. Happy with my 18 Duramax.
442k miles today never had even a alignment. Just keep front end greased and check my joints. No complaints
What transmission did your truck come with? Thanks for the video, what injector pump did it come with?
Thank you ,Allison 1000 6 speed and HP4 (Denso) Injector pump

Anyway to get your notes from you? I know it’s a long shot, but I have to ask.
I'm so glad you brought that up. Honestly it had slipped my mind. I haven't figured out where to put it up yet but i will. Email me at cfarmeronyt@gmail.com and I'll try to send copies tomorrow. I need to type them out so they're easier to read

I've not been in a 2022 i bet it's nice.i love my 18
What DEF fluid do you run?
Can you give me some more info on the semi transport. Or point me in the right direction. Thanks.
Great video. What was you doing in the mud off the road 😂 you have had some good luck out of that truck. It has been a good one. Maybe she will go another 300,000 with no problems
See, a friend said it was ok to do that.... it wasn't ok Mr. Tennessee, 🤣 🤣 🤣
@@CFarmer 😂 😂 😂. It was ok when you was running with a Ram 😂
O, ok, lol
Do you still have all the emissions left in tact?
Yes, original dpf and def pump/ heater. I've replaced def injector and position 1 &2 nox. That's about all I've done for emissions

I hope it does you a good job. I wish i had another clean low milage truck just like mine. For what i put it through its done me good
What DEF fluid do you run?
Do you have to add any oil between changes? Also what oil do you use? I started out using the full synthetic Rotella t6 and now it’s impossible to find and when I do find it it’s outrageous expensive.
So far i haven't but if i go over it will use some. I just use rotella 15-40 non synthetic with 2 quarts of lucas but any rotella getting hard to find.
what motor oil do you run?
I run Rotella T4 15-40 with 2 quarts of lucas with every oil change
I also try to watch the tuned L5P brotherhood Facebook page. There are a couple of gurus on there that are always helping ppl out.
I sure will keep you posted! And thanks for the helpful videos
