I don't agree with what you said at the end of the video. Actually, it's all about pulsivity.. you can pulse IGF-1 from time to time to promote growth in your system, then follow this with a long period of caloric restriction to clear your system, then reperform the cycle, I think that's the secret to a healthy long life, just pulses of growth followed by a period of autophagy..

I wouldn't say the relationship between longevity, performance, growth factors is super straightforward. There are lots of animal models that don't follow the expected path (I think there are a couple reviews that cover growth hormone/igf-1 manipulations), and there are plenty of other chemicals that affect performance and longevity, making context important.

Hardly. No one increases their GH levels to 100 fold. They don't even increase them 10 fold with gh supplementation.
So her gym only advice for increasing GH is pure stupidity particularly for aging adults who cant recover fast enough to benefit from a "gym only protocol" for gh supplementation. If you're about 45, you MUST supplement gh if you want longevity and quality of life, recovery etc. while exercising at the gym.
Peptide CJC1295 w/dac is the best way to supplement gh. Dont waste your time and health on HGH. There are too many side effects and complications.

Since your comment is pretty high I'll throw it in for others to see. This is particularly true for animals, they not only live longer (usually 30%) but are also in WAY better health. The difference is, for humans it seems not to neccessary increase longevity, BUT it reduces the amount of agerelated diseases immensly. So we might actually be old age and strong and healthy. A 5 day waterfast once every 3 months or minimum 2x a year seem to keep the benefits going.

@Zegarac Robert that study is interesting
I don't know why some answers never pop up for me hah
The thing is, most people would have a hard time to restrict food for several decades without putting too much stress from various sources for in this age. And who wants to live life that restricted let's be honest here haha.
Dr Ronda has another vid here about autophagy and they talk about the same benefits mimicking a calorie restricted life can be gotten through two waterfasts a year.
      @Yana Nova Vlogs
it seems to be that what makes us healthy is a mix of short (even intense) stress and a recovery period. That's why prolonged fasting is so great, we give the body the time to heal. Autophagy usually peaks already at 3 days after starting a fast (if we have been in ketosis from the start), If we eat carbs a 6day waterfast would be more appropiate, that's why the 5 day rule seems quite on point.
Autophagy also rids ourselves of senecent cells which just stay in our body and inflame us. Fixes gutbiome so long refeed is good etc.
Aswell every of those natural stressors seems to activate all pathways associated with longevity and health. Cold showers, Sauna, Breath work(hypoxia), exercise.
Better to fast 2x a year, get in ketosis prior the fast. Maybe do 3 keto days earlier. Then do sport and some yoga flow exercises, some days some real stress like ice baths here and there, eat yo greens and enjoy life^^

There is a video with Rhonda on meat in which she explains that higher meat consumption (which drives higher IGF-1) is only correlated with increased mortality in people with other risk factors, like sedentary lifestyle or excessive alcohol consumption. Basically, exercise helps IGF-1 get into the muscles and the brain, where you want it, as opposed to it staying in the blood and causing tumor growth.

I'm a body builder and i believe i have so insight here , given i experiment often with igf , fasting , calorie restriction and bulking over the course of years all while collecting my own personal blood work along the way . This is more than guessing in my opinion .im 35 with a ifg of 100 naturally and it has been around that naturally for me since my early 20's. When i fast which is every day for about 16-18 hrs igf 1 has never raised but maybe 10 points if im lucky. When i cut which is on average 5-6 months every year there is maybe a rise in igf 1 by 5 point if im lucky . when i am in a calorie surplus to gain lean mass along with training . ifg1 stays the same which is for about 8 months our of the year. my diet is always well balanced full of fiber . There is nothing in my experince that is going to alter you genetics for a higher igf1 naturally vs taking somthing like a peptide . I take MK 677 and it take me from 100 to 200-230 for IGF. Just like anything else , it should not be abused . At leves of IGF 1 100 or below i feel sluggish , fat gain is easier , Fat storage is around my main organs , brain function is slower , sleep is worse , skin is worse , hair is thinner , the daily need for afternoon coffee , bones and muscles are more ache , just about everyint in life is worse . Just taking the levels to 200 changes all of this for the better . You decide what you want i guess , My thought is just be responsible with it . Get blood work done , optimize your nutrition and exercise.

Fasting repairs cells by autophagy. It increases lean body mass by the release of growth hormone. Severe caloric restriction decreases muscle mass and increases lifespan in part by limiting growth hormone production and metabolism. Do not confuse fasting with chronic caloric restriction.

She just explained that more growth hormone your body produces = less expression of stress resistant genes that protect your cells from damage over time. Less growth hormone = more expression of stress resistant genes that protect your cells from damage over time. However eating those polyphenols and a healthy diet can enable those genes that protect your body from stress even while you produce high levels of growth hormones, therefore countering the negative effects of growth hormone (negative effect being more GH = less expression of stress resistant genes that protect your body over your lifespan and lead to shorter life).

intermittent fasting increases the expression of the stress resistant genes by quite a bit, possibly offsetting the increase in igf-1. What I've seen is that it tends to do more than that and offer a net benefit.

Naturally increasing your levels with exercise and diet is not going to get it anywhere near the levels that peptides will get them at.

IGF-1 is not the sole link to cancer, they recently studied a breed of cattle that had lower incidence of cancer with higher genetic igf1 levels than the normal control group.
This led the researchers to look into the mechanisms more closely and agree that they don't understand the biological mechanism for the tumor cell suppression in the high igf1 group but they can definitely attest that it is a novel discovery and directly contradicts current nomenclature.

Great thing for me this is what I'm doing already: HIT at the gym, and lots of blueberries & greens, ... and home-made blueberry+blue grape wine. One issue that's missing, I feel, is results of GH/IGF-1 at normal, high AND low levels, as opposed to high versus low only; because having a big GH injection once a week to try to become the hulk is one thing, but just taking melatonin, GABA and arginine at night so as to get a good night sleep and recover your lost normal GH production is quite another.

it may be confusing for some people okay let me explain, if you boost growth hormone then it regenerates your body faster, now each time our body regenerates its telomere gets shorter by reducing our lifespan, now in fasting you get into survival stage where your body keeps its cells protected against oxidative damage thereby making it less necessary to repair!! it also boosts growth hormone level to fix previous damages which will not reduce your lifespan as much. So my suggestion is to not take growth hormone rather do exercise and sprouting which will lead you to longevity.

Question here. You said Mice and worms lives are shortened when IGF levels are increased 100 and 1000 fold. In humans IGF would not need to be increased near that much to bring an older person up to the same levels as a healthy young person. I believe I read that a young person in their teens and twenties naturally produce the equivalent of about 2iu’s hgh per day. This drops over time and an older person in their 70’s may only produce the equivalent of a half to 1iu per day. You wouldn’t need to increase that by 100 or 1000 times to get their levels up to a healthy range. 2 to 4 times that amount would be sufficient.
Is it possible that hgh therapy or using a secretagog like Ibutamoren could bring a person up to healthy levels without shortening their life? Pro Body builders only take 8-15iu’s per day of synthetic HGH. That’s only 4 to 8 times the natural levels of a young person. I imagine if you took 100 times the natural level of HGH it would be devastating to your health. Isn’t that exactly what was done to the mice and worms? No wonder they died quickly.
Maybe I’m missing something. I’m open to correction on this.

It’s hard to know if what I’m reading and watching is true. I’ll admit, the 2iu per day figure may be wrong but I did read that not long ago. When I contacted an anti-aging doctor/clinic they told me they will prescribe 2iu’s per day of synthetic GH to bring people up to normal levels. Based on that alone I tend to believe what I read is correct.

What about a life strategy of putting on massive muscle in youth when one is at prime health and immune function then in later life phases go into a muscle sustainment strategy that is lower total stress. I suspect that there's an optimum "formula" for balancing grown, recovery, reproduction capacity and longevity based on TIME/AGE. In other words as one gets older we can presume that they have many impaired functions - reduce telomere protective end caps on DNA, wear and tear of "life" in general from oxidative stress, toxin build up in live and body-fat due to accumulated ingestion and exposure of toxins in food and atmosphere/environment etc. At some point, as a person ages, if one wants to optimize "longevity", presuming that they have started off with excellent LBM in youth and low body fat then a good strategy would be to "coast" on the momentum of that muscle put on in youth at a minimal "sustainment" or maintenance level of exercise so a not to over train the body with too intense exercise simultaneous to induce more wear-and-tear and oxidative stress and higher risk to getting a disease (esp Cancer) due to stressed immune and repair systems. Thoughts? Any studies on this risk-reward trade space? This idea comes from the Soma Theory of aging and longevity as it relates to optimizing: Growth, Repair, Reproduction and Longevity.

This video got me thinking. I decided to read the study in question, published by Aging Cell, It appears that the study references "humans" in its conclusion a couple of times while also specifically stating that the lower IGF-1 levels were shown to be beneficial ONLY to women, and there was NO difference for men. Its misleading at best though true with respect to no positive lifespan impact, particularly confusing in the way it has been citied by media as "HGH shows opposite intended effect" (like WSJ, ect). Another study needs to be done examining why the men and women responded differently. Though the study had 75% women, there were close to 200 participants and it seems that there may be differences in how men and women respond to HGH. Its more clear that HGH does nothing to extend lifespan in either men or women, but that's not why people take it. There seems to be an overarching and arguably well intended govt interest in the relation to curbing cancer, thus leading me to believe that this NIH study is being put forth as a "HGH promotes/can increase risk of cancer, therefore bad, period" type of logic. What about the notion that it may have no positive impact on lifespans of men (perhaps negative for those predisposed to cancer), but may have body degeneration prevention benefit, while also showing some negative side effects? The US govt would never fund such a study, correct? onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/10.1111/acel.12213/full

Of course these are two polar opposites and the differences are extreme but the relationship is exactly what you would expect.
Go look up acromegaly and see if they are built like Arnold Schwarzenegger or ultra cognitive powerhouse geniuses at the top of the academic tiers of society.
      (Ps: they aren't)

@@relaxingaudioforchillongou488 That proves a link, which is exactly what I said is clear. The link alone doesn't give us enough insight for definitive practical advice, because there are downstream changes as well as other changes that occur at the same time. Calorie restriction for instance extends lifespan, but calorie restriction alongside methionine restriction, which also extends lifespan, doesn't. Maybe the IGF-1 differences are simply effecting changes that we can manipulate directly, without affecting IGF itself. That's why more research is needed, though there is a good amount in smaller animals.

I periodically take TA-165 to boost HGH. I feel and look 100% better. What are your thoughts about cancer with taking HGH or HGH boosters?

I thought that fasting increased HGH and reduced IGF1 and stimulated neurogenesis.

At 57 I was starting to feel the affects of aging. I have always been athletic but I was started to feel I needed to be careful in my movements as to not hurt myself, like if I jumped out of bed in the morning too quickly. But, I have been doing intermittent fasting since then and I have never felt better. I will be 60 this week and I am amazed at how good I feel.

yeah HGH would be bad as it is a non-precursor. You want to stimulate the growth hormone in the body that way your body knows how to regulate the ecosystem of hormones, neurotransmitters, etc. It's like a Bodybuilder going shopping for a Gossard Wonder Bra - After he had an Estrogen boost from mainline T and his body said ok better squirt out some O - I have always thought GABA is good to take a look - also reduces stress so there is no trade-off like this woman has mentioned. - Hey I am sure she tries ;)

I am hypo-pituitary and prescribed r-GH therapy 6 yrs ago. My prescription of HGH is $500/mo. after retiring 3 yrs ago I can no longer afford it and the consequences you describe are real and omnipresent with low IGF-1, was 200# now 190#, vitality lacking libido low, exercise ability dramatically reduced, muscle wasting very apparent. That's life.

How about an intermittent fasting based diet and exercise protocol so that we can have our cake and eat it too (Martin Berkhan of LeanGains dot com)? IGF-1 is inhibited during the fast while epinephrine and norepinephrine are increased. This leads to an increased metabolism where fat oxidation is prioritized and cognitive performance is improved. There is also an increase in GH.
