    IF is a game changer for me, went from 160 to my goal weight of 130 in less than a year. I vary my fasts from 16/8 to 20/4 with a one to two day sensible feasting. I rarely eat bread, eliminated bad oils, highly processed foods, no junk food and started taking Vit D and trace minerals . Thank you Dr. Fung 🥰🥰🥰

    Dr. Fung changed my life. I was diagnosed with Type-2 Diabetes a few years ago and was put on medication. Years later, I discovered Dr. Fung and this idea of IF. After 8 months of IF, weight training and a low carb diet, I’ve lost over 40lbs and lowered my A1C from over 11 to 5.7. At this point in time, I no longer need medication. I still need to lose another 15 or so pounds to be at my ideal weight but I am on the right path. Thank You!

    I never thought I’d be this old saying my parents were right, 3 meals no snacks.
    Their motivation was economics. They couldn’t afford to feed us more than 3 times a day. They didn’t want to be constantly cleaning the kitchen.
    It’s not easy but I lived my childhood that way.
    It’s really common sense and we’ve lost it. You have presented it in a doable way. Thank you

Dr Berg, Health Coach Kait is a good one too and Dr Mindy. There are more too if you're wanting to take the time to go through them but basically you can get a lot of info from the comments section. So cool to hear the car engine longevity analogy from someone other than me haha... I came up with that when I was about 15 years old (15 years ago) as I realised I had a very low metabolic rate/caloric requirement (and can build muscle very easily with little training and little protein, IE; 50-70g a day max and sub 2,000 calories). Since I was that age I was always saying I was going to live to 200, I completely quit sugar or any synthetic compounds around then, and have since done dozens of long terms fasts, including 7 day dry fasts. Now I just do a 7 day water fast at the end of every month, only eat 1 meal a day when not fasting, try to do low carb apart from my somewhat excessive beer intake haha... Haven't been ill once since then, so half of my life.
    Back to the engine analogy, I always likened it to the difference between a low revving V8 engine that could last 100,000 miles without a rebuild compared to a 10,000+ RPM race car that can complete but a single race before being completely deteriorated.
    Cheers from the UK and thank you for all of your work here!

    • @SebHu711
      @SebHu711 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Why aren't you dry fasting anymore? From my experience it's much more cleansing than a water fast.

    • @AJDOLDCHANNELARCHIVE
      @AJDOLDCHANNELARCHIVE 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@SebHu711 I definitely agree that dry fasting is superior to water fasting for its health benefits, however I find it to necessitate resting a lot of the time as I would get quite lightheaded when getting up from sitting down etc... with water fasting I can continue with my days as usual, for instance I do bicycle courier work a few days a week and wouldn't be able to do that whilst dry fasting. Also being able to drink tea/coffee (without milk or sugar) really helps make things more enjoyable.
      I'll certainly do more dry fasts in the future, but for now I'm happy with a 7 day water fast at the end of every month.

    I started intermittent fasting at the tender age of about 11 in 1976. I just wanted to sleep longer. So I skipped breakfast. About 3 yrs ago I started living on one meal only and kept my weight in check but at the higher end of the what the bmi allows us. And I am exercising almost daily (cycling). For about half a year my weight has been creeping up. Now I am about 7 kg above what is allowed. It is interesting how my body wants to keep my weight at a certain level.

    What are the implications here for the (very high protein) carnivore diet? Doing OMAD (daily feed window at 2 hours and daily IF at 22 HOURS, and periodic longer fasts) along with the carnivore diet meets this proper balancing Dr. Fung?

      More protein will just drive insulin which works against IGF-1. So it’s better to just consume enough protein, and with carnivore that means either more fatty cuts or add in more fats like tallow or butter.

    I have been to several doctors..no one can figure it out..
    I had a complete hysterectomy in 2010..due to large fibroids..
    I eat a balanced diet that include organic eggs, butter, red meat, chicken etc..I consume some dairy and very little sugar..

    Much of the information coming out of longevity research would appear to vilify protein and implicate it in a whole host of maladies, including cancer and decreased longevity, precisely because IGF-1 is elevated as a result of increased protein consumption. However, as professor Don Layman and Dr. Gabrielle Lyon have emphasized, low protein diets, even IF they attenuate the IGF-1 levels, have a dark side in that such protein restriction induces sarcopenia and produces decreased bone density. The latter two effects cause a great diminishment in the overall quality of life, not to mention also contribute to increased mortality. Who would want to live a long life, after all, if say the latter third of it consists of greater dependency, frailty, increased injury, and lower vitality? So a balanced approach would be to continue with a high level of protein consumption to retain muscle mass, followed by period caloric restriction or fasting to counterbalance the IGF-1 stimulation.

However the understanding is restrict to much, lower your bmr, sometimes permanently. I exercise almost everyday and am not sure if I am eating enough. If I am not fasting, I eat when I’m hungry. Which works out to 2 or 3 meals per day. The calorie counting is heavily debated. Your thoughts? Perhaps a video? Thanks!!!

Has anyone else succeeded? How did you do it? I am 180lbs and need to lose 45 ish. Thanks in advance. 😉

      My mom and brother both had horrid heart burn until the started a low fat diet. My brother gave it up and had it come back. My mother didn't and hasn't had it since. Now they could be a genetic issue, but just food for thought and worth a try I'd think.

      do a longer fast 72+ h and take potassium bicarbonate before bed and any time you get heartburn. Eventually it will fix itself

    Dear dr Fung my question is a bit out of this subject but I am interested in your opinion on GLP-1(e.g. Dulaglutide) medication for diabetes or weight loss. From one of your lectures I remembered you had said that any diabetes medication that promotes insulin secretion might not be so good for us. How is it about those GLP-1 shots?

    Dr. Fung, what is your opinion on "rolling fasts"? I am doing a "rolling 48" meaning I fast for 48hours, have a good meal, fast 48 hours, have a good meal etc.

    • @KenJackson_US
      @KenJackson_US 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Does that mean you eat your meal an hour later every other day?

      @@KenJackson_US Rolling fast means, you fast 48 hours have a meal, then fast 48 hours, have a meal and so forth. SO if I start fasting at 7pm thurs, I will not eat again till 7pm Saturday. I use the life app to keep track of time.

    Hi Dr. Fung.
    I'd like to ask you about AMPK.
    I try to incorporate IF as a part of my weight loss journey.
    I'm not diabetic but I do take Ozempic to help manage the hunger and my binge eating disorder.
    Could you please make a video on AMPK metabolic activator? And whether it can be considered to be taken as a supplement instead of, or together with Ozempic as an extra "booster" for hunger management and weight loss (daily or in periouds when you hit a plateau).
    Thank you.

    I've gotten very good results with intermittent fasting eating all food in a 6 hour window and fasting for 18 hours. In a recent interview Dr. Valter Longo (a leading researcher on fasting) claims that fasting for more than 12 hours a days is not health and actually lowers life expectancy. Do you have any thoughts on this. (as usual, every expert opinion on diet and health seems to get completely contradicted within a few years/decades).
