Glad to see a new vlog and to see your doing well. I've heard good things about the islands there. Glad to see you made it out to one. Looks like a great time. I'm getting ready to book a flight to come out in March to check out Thailand for a couple weeks. It's still top of my list for places to retire in the next 3-5 years. I'm 47 and trying to get there before I turn 50 but we will see how the stock market treats me over the next few years. It's been great watching you do your thing there for inspiration.

My advice is don’t get hung up on the stock market too much unless you’re planning on liquidating it all upon retirement. My last year in the states was horrible for my portfolio.
Remember, we’re in the long game here… 30-50 years more and the market is going to climb and fall a lot over that time.

I feel the same as you about motorbikes, Pete. I did have a wake-up call concerning the Pattaya/Jomtien baht bus today though. I thought the bus did a constant loop back and forth from Patts to Jomtien but I hopped on at Central Marina and ended up at the Naklua Market, WTH😂. I'm almost to my third week in Jomtien and still dealing with a bit of jetlag but still looking forward to getting breakfast/lunch with you in the future. I haven’t ended up in a weird spot from the bath bus yet but you’re definitely not alone in that experience. I’ve heard it before. There’s some regular loops but even on those you have to get off and then get back on… and I hear sometimes they just turn off and head inland.

Good seeing you. Not sure if you went quiet or if TH-cam got stupid, but I do enjoy your content and the funny editing you do instead of a voiceover. Feels less produced and more authentic. Hope you are well and continue doing things that make you happy. I move there in 2024.
It’s probably because of both. I did go silent but the algorithm can be temperamental.
Looks amazing! i could use a bit of this after a month in NYC, that's for sure. The Barrio looks amazing too. (Okay, is i'm very hungry right now, still). Interesting to see all the graffiti on the walls, seems to be common there, and all the signs on things in English. Glad to see you're still living the dream.
Yeah, no Russian or Chinese signs on KC. There is or there was a strong graffiti art community on the island. I took many pictures of pieces not shown in the video and saw many pieces I didn’t take pictures of.

@@peteonretreat2023 Right on man! We're planning a trip that way too. I'm hearing great things about Koh Samui too. You can rent a car and drive around the horn (the Thailand Riviera) or fly from Pattaya for about $250 round trip. All for thoughts... Enjoy!

If the family wants a quieter and much more beautiful trip with clean swimming beaches… definitely don’t bring them to Pattaya. 😅
yeah, I know.. but we usually have an easier time finding reasonable accommodations for a large family there -- we'll definitely opt for one of the quieter beaches if it comes to that!

Koh Chang looks awesome.
I am also motorbike shy. I even made the effort to get the motorbike driving license - but I haven't yet ridden one after the chaos and danger I see in Pattaya.
However, I think that I will overcome my fear and try one on one of these islands - as I noticed that on Koh Larn and also on Koh Samed they drive calmly. Got to start somewhere and it might as well be on a calm island.
I have a friend whose lived in Thailand on and off for 10 years… he won’t even get on a bike taxi.
I’m planning on taking some motor bike classes next week and getting my Thai license hopefully by the end of the year. I’m also planning on practicing on Koh Larn 😊

I came at 49.5 and just got various visa exemptions and tourist visas for 7 months until I turned 50. Now I’m on my retirement visa.
