Pete on Retreat
เข้าร่วมเมื่อ 5 ม.ค. 2007
Last year I decided to sell 99% of my belongings including my house and my car so I could spend the next decade traveling the world. On December 1st, 2022 I moved from Austin, TX to Thailand! This channel is intended to keep my friends and family informed of my life and adventures but if I’m having fun making videos and people like them I might try to turn this into a thing. If the pandemic taught me anything, it’s that you never know what’s going to happen so join me in stepping outside my comfort circle, putting my fears and anxieties behind and going on retreat to live my best life. Cheers!
Thailand's Stairway to Heaven - Khao Khitchakut! | vlog 39
Back in March, my girlfriend and I went to the beautiful Koh Khitchakut mountain in the Chantaburi province of Thailand. This is a very special place for Thai Buddhists as it's said to have Buddha's footprints preserved at the top near the base of a huge boulder. The mountain is known as the Buddhist stairway to heaven. It's an amazing place that sadly, very few foreigners ever go to or get to see. Khao Khitchakut is only open in February and March every year.

🚫💦🚫🔫 What would Songkran be like no water guns and no tourists? This year, my girlfriend and I joined our friends and went to the Samco village in the Ang Thong province of Thailand for my first ever "traditional" Songkran celebration. We brought our water guns but never used them. Instead, we partied with the locals, ate some rat and saw the biggest Buddha statue in all of Thailand. Big thank ...

6 Rules to Guide my Early Retirement in Thailand! - vlog 24
I love these excursion videos bro, I add them to my "things to do in Pattaya" list since we've only been here since November.
Another white buffalo. Him being single the majority of his life didn't prepare him for Thailand. His mental instability and desperation will destroy him in Thailand. You have to be on your "A" game and he is headed for doom financially and psychologically. I feel sorry for this dude.
I appreciate your concern but I’m ok. I’m saving more money here now then when I was single. I’m far from unstable or desperate. I wasn’t looking for love, it just happened. Fact is, life is amazing and I can’t really ask for more. My friends and family know my partner personally, you don’t but I do understand your comment. There’s plenty of stories of heartbreak and emptied bank accounts. Unless you die with your partner, every relationship ends in tragedy. You either live life alone or you open your heart up.
Your heart is one thing, but as long as you take care of your money and wealth, and not let all of that be jeopardized. I was only in Thailand for a month and met someone on week 3 that worked at one of my hotels in Phuket. I was not even looking for that because I knew I was going home in 2 weeks. Things just happen very quickly in Thailand. I was around 44, and she was 32. Single women in Thailand at that age are under so much pressure to find someone, and I could feel that urgency to get those claws in. She got the fairy tale 2 week luxury hotels, meals, and I got a massive dose of how things are very different compared to western women.
It’s a very common story out here and I see it all the time. Luckily, my partner really isn’t about the money. She helps me save money and I spend less monthly living with her than I did being single. She’s an amazing cook!
I had to rewind and double-check when you said Chanthaburi was 3 miles from Pattata. Yep, that's what you said.
Hahaha! Gold star! No one has caught that one yet!!
Pete, this looks like a fantastic trip. thank you for sharing. This is definitely on my to do list for next February and March.
You’re welcome! Maybe we can coordinate and hang out in Chantaburi. 🤔
@@peteonretreat2023 I would be thrilled more than you know
Whoa! Loving the crepe guys shirt!
Way to get my to go back and watch my video again! 😂
Great vid, I'd like to see that place on my next visit, but oh those stairs!
My legs weren’t sure until about 70% of the way back down 😅 I’ll definitely train for it next year!
Great video Pete. Looks like paradise. Get it!!!!✔️
Thanks Mike. There’s so many cool and beautiful places out here.
Thanks for taking us on your journey 🎉👍👌
Thanks for joining us! (and leaving a comment too!)
Fun trip Pete! Thanks for showing us! Will put it on my list when I come visit!
It’s a shame more people don’t know about it. I wanted to show how cool the whole area was to try to get more people to check it out. There’s not many English speaking blogs about it either.
Actually it was not covered by health care but they did give me a deal because I had been going there a long time. Ps 150 was a guess it was 80 Canadian.
You two look like you belong together. So happy for you!
I believe we are… at least for now, if not forever
💯. I'm very happy for Pete. She's a great lady.
A Great Good Video and the views 🤩 Lush definitely a good workout walking up but so so Worth it buddy looking forward to More of the same U B Safe 👍
You were super close to Cambodia. I want to go to the mountain, I was in Chantaburi once or twice for visa runs
Yeah, I didn’t know how close we were until I did the map segment. I’ve been itching to go back since I pretty much only went to Angkor Wat.
Those are absolutely crepes my good friend, they’re just savory as opposed to sweet and fruity like they have in the States. Cool video PJ! Hope to see you soon…👨🏽🍳
Leave it to the chef to set me straight! They were definitely savory… and now I want one!
Nice ! That ride up...seems like it's "pick a lane" either side. But, what a cool lil adventure with your lady. Stoked for ya, Pete ! See ya soon, I hope. It's no longer "my plan", but the plan of something or someone with a will as strong as mine. It'll all make sense when I get there. Keep up the good work...we all need you here. 🤘😘💨💨➡️🇹🇭
I was reading that the lanes intentionally switch in places to make it safer… driving on the left list of the time but putting the down on the right to prevent going over the edge in places. You have options Matt and most of them are out here!
That makes sense @peteonretreat2023 options...I know. I remember your video. That was a major influence in my decision 🤘😘💨💨➡️🇹🇭 moto cross races...gotta go !
Nice video mate.
Thank you buddy 🙏🏼
Do people ever swim at those beaches or are their separate beaches for swimming?
I think they do but we arrived around sunset. We’ll do a beach day when we go back next year.
Great travel blog.
Thank you 🙏🏼 😃
Nice to see another person highlighting this place. Another place with serious overtones for this great countries beliefs and friendly outlook to others. I was just wondering what your wish was and looking at your company have a shrewd idea ;) Keep going Pete - advance - no retreat!!!
Your guess is probably pretty close to the mark 😉
@@peteonretreat2023 😁👍💞
Looks like a lot of fun... I'll have to try to be around Feb/Mar next year and give it a try
The whole trip was a blast. Looking forward to doing more of it next year. They have nighttime trips up the mountain too!
Great adventure Pete and Koi? I lost my first comment due to my connectivity. Really enjoyed but was hoping to see the Buddha footprint, yet as you say, respect for the area. Quite the ride pickup bed style, was thinking downhill would be "hairy" as we used to say in AZ, USA back in the day. You two seem so happy together, it pisses me off! 555 kidding. Am not looking for or want to live with a girlfriend, It's all good, Peace and Love Y'all, Thank you
The footprint(s) was a very busy area. We went and bowed down for a round of prayers right next to it and then moved to allow the next batch of people to have their turn. I really try not to film people when they’re praying. I wasn’t looking for a girlfriend either but the right woman appeared so I had to say yes.
Wonderful vlog, so very interesting , thank you
You’re very welcome. Thanks for the comment 🙏🏼
Good job. For what is worth, I like your travel videos!

Hey Pete, Im looking at moving to Thailand is there a way we could talk so i can ask you some questions.
Feel free to send me an email, I have it posted in the description of all of my videos.
What about the water?
I feel like many TH-camrs do talk about that. I sure knew not to drink tap water before I moved here 🤢
Most people in the 🇺🇸 can’t backup yet they drive these big ass SUVs. 😂
hey Pete! Glad it went well. Late catching up on your content. Hoping the stitches came out easy and you are hassle free.
Still got my stitches. The wound looks good but wasn’t sealed enough yet so we are waiting a few more days. Thanks for carving and for the comment 🙏🏼
Very cool Pete! I’m sure they love you. In Thailand the family is a big part of the deal/relationship. I’ve heard sooo many more good stories than bad. Thai culture is deep/meaningful and sustainable. I know you get what I’m failing to accurately describe😉👏🏻👏🏻
Good video 4 info keep u good work @ nice channel..❤
Thank you for the comment and glad you like the channel 🙏🏼
Thumbs up 👍 Pete….good decision to have it removed 😎
Thank you 🙏🏼 MSR… in the waiting room to get the stitches removed now 🏥
Do they test it for cancer?
They didn’t. The doctor didn’t really ask… in hindsight I wish I pushed for it just to be sure but he was very confident it was benign.
sweeth tooth has good serie i just end looking this.
I enjoyed it very much
lot thai doctors has learn in american to be doctor.
That makes sense… but I know that education is also very expensive.
most specialist doctors study in korea that are NO1 in the world in healthcare and thai medical schools are top ranked..thailand is still ranked no 5 in the world and america no 15 in healthcare
i has cutting footh 2 time in thailand, has inflammation in step foot. puplic hospital and i pay vip room not want stay many day bad bed common area, wnat go to vip room. common cost 800 B/day and vip room 1200 B/day, cut operation open my footh and clean and closed, cost 22000 B, second time cut same left footh same but little cheapen i not stay hospital i go to home and ewery day nurse go clean footh and make new bandages. cost 20 000 B all in hospitals, not expensive. cheap operation and good. and if thai wife have goverment worker, i wife have, need pay only vip room about 400 B own money all other goverment pay, common room price only/day 800 B, and i need pay medicines at pharmacy, all other goverment pay my hospital cost both time only 2000 B and medicines. about 4000 B. i not need insurance goverment pay all, haha.
Wow, thanks for sharing your stories and costs 🙏🏼
there is a reason why thai healthcare is ranked in the top 10 in the world and many ppl go for medical holidays or dental holidays For comparison the Us healthcare is ranked no 15 in the world and marked as the most expensive healthcare in the World
The insurance industry ruined the cost of healthcare in the states… but it would likely still be the most expensive or near it.
@@peteonretreat2023 for me as a scandinavian is almost scary and sad that an american both can loose their work AND get into a total financial ruin getting sick or even having a baby And i see many americans avoiding healthcare even here in se-asia..self medicate , strange weird "magic" home remedies' , " riding out the storm" and seek help when its really the last resort and total unavoidable seems to be the american way.
@@gmm5550 it’s just one aspect of the states that scares me. So glad not to be there now and I’m definitely not afraid of getting treatment here.
@@peteonretreat2023 exactly cheap to get a checkup and cath anything early , cheap medicine , cheap to eat healthy and +10000 steps a day keeps the doctor away =)

Haha, I’m surprised how well this video is doing. I don’t feel it’s one of my better ones. 😅
There wont be a sadang in tax until my demanded tax ID tax resident number qualifies for free government hospital treatment. I could cancel my insurance and lap up being a resident paying tax.
I sincerely hope that works out well for ya!
Have you got Separation Anxiety? ;) Old Lumpy was with you for very long time. How will you cope without him?
I start group therapy sessions next week. 😭
I wouldn't fancy having surgery in The Land of Smirks
I don’t fancy having surgery anywhere 😂 Thailand has a solid track record though.
@peteonretreat2023 N9 mate, they charge us 500% more in emergencies, often hidden behind their Smirks. Look at what they done with Steady eddie
@@Beats00001 not sure entirely of Eddy’s story as I haven’t been following it very well. I’ve heard different things from different sources and it’s hard to navigate the facts. Nick said they were charging $2k usd a night for the hospital stay. That is definitely not a 500% up charge. It’s 20% what they would charge in the states though. I’m sure there’s a lot of story I’m missing.
Great background story and overview on visiting BPH for surgery. I have been to BPH several times, but go to PIH for dermatology. Not much difference in price really, for me it is just because I met their Dermatologist many years ago and it is easier to get to for me as I do not own personal transport. Yes, having a Thai native speaker can help, but not so much at the private hospitals, yet the ladies like them for the coffee shops, restaurant choices, and "luxury" I think! 555 Rural and other public hospitals can be fine, but you need a Thai speaker and the waiting time can be hours for consultation and even longer to schedule treatment/surgery.
The hospital did have a sort of “fancy mall” feel to it in the lobby. I have some friends in Bangkok that eat at the hospital cafeteria near them all the time… They love it!
Don;t be in a hurry to cut small lumps out as, sure, it might of stopped growing, but it may still be carcinogenic. Once the knife goes in & it hits through to the larger capillary bloodstream, then will spread throughout your body & to all your organs. From a lump in your hand, to a cancer in the kidney & dead six months later. Also be cautious of radiation. 1 x CT Scan or Cat Scan is equivalent to is equivalent to same radiation as 100 chest x-rays. Don't be sucked in by scamming insurance company "Total Medical Check Up" deals, as they may end up terminating one's existence.
I waited 30 years… not much of a hurry 😂 I was confident it wasn’t carcinogenic since I had it 30 years so I thought it was worth the gamble.
Hey Pete! Great to see another video from you and happy to hear your procedure went well. :).
Thank you 🙏🏼 It’s nice to be back. This video is doing much better than expected so I’m motivated now to get another one done this week!
I've had two of those removed in the back of my neck (Same exact location) in the last 30 years and one removed from my back about 6 years ago I had them removed in the USA because I was not living in Asia yet at those times
The doctor warned that it can come back. That’s probably why you had two in the same spot. “Return of Lumpy” coming soon to a TH-cam near you.
@@peteonretreat2023 Yes You are correct-The last time it was removed from my neck was like 11-12 years ago and the doc said it will likely come back and sure enough Mr Lumpy is back and ready for removal again...lol
Thanks , great video very detailed 🎉
Thank you 🙏🏼
Sexy woman. Lucky you!😊
Good to see your video. This is video is really helpful for expats. Look forward to more when you get back in your groove.
Thank you for commenting and I’m happy you found it helpful. I don’t see many first hand candid accounts of having procedures done so it was a good opportunity for me to make this vlog.
Sawadee krap bro. Which travel insurance are you on? Did they reimburse your claim? Lots of feral soi dogs there. Two vloggers got bitten. People commuting on zebra cross walk have to be careful. I witness a tourist twisted her ankle on uneven sidewalk wincing in pain. She had to be piggy back by her partner onto a taxi to the hospital. Get insured.
Sawadee krap 🙏🏼 I’m on Safety Wing (it’s really popular with the Thai TH-camr community). I haven’t submitted the claim to my insurance. I don’t think they’ll reimburse me because it’s a preexisting condition. Yes, a ton of soi dogs in my area. My friend was bit twice. And yes, crossing the street can be very dangerous too. And car accidents too. I’ll get on a local insurance next month.
