The best part about this glitch is that you can carry objects without updating the HOLP, so you can throw objects and have them teleport to a preset point in space.

Really a good old classic
The cloning glitch does update the held object's position, which is why the hat in hand glitch is really useful in combination with it. That way you can hold things you shouldn't be able to, then remotely release them where you want. There are other methods like instant release, pause-buffered hitstun or locking the camera far away, but having your hat in your hand is the most practical method if you aren't a TAS
I have a soft spot for this glitch, it's one of the first ones I ever knew about and manged to pull off on my own intentionally :D
I just have to say, i haven't been able to pull ANY of the Mario Odyssey glitches. But also, i have done Mario 64 glitches in the past, and the ones showcased here i was never able to pull off, so i'm happy to say that know i can thanks to you, so thanks again Andy for making this channel and for explaining glitches as well as you do. I'm happy that you as a "glitch youtuber" of sorts has lasted the test of time, as many i watched before have stopped doing it or doing it much much worse, so thanks again for the quality also.
In snowmans land you can break the game by continuing to warp, it will spawn multiple caps and when you hit the limit the game crashes(I remember this from a video on the main channel)
I’ve actually really been liking this new channel. It’s a nice way to show off the smaller glitches, and works as a quick little reprieve for when I’m bogged down with stuff to do. Keep up the good work!

You forgot to talk about the HOLP: basically, when you throw something, the game puts a "marker" in the point where you threw it. The game usually updates this marker every time you throw something, but doesn't when the cap in hand glitch is active, and so everything you carry will get thrown from that point instead of your hands.

I remember finding this by accident when I got my hands on the Japanese version before it released in North America, we were dumbfounded.
@Glitch Shorts: You forgot an alternative version of the glitch, the first step is to lose your hat, then after loseing you hat, do not get it back, using either the wing cap, metal cap, or vanish cap, do the hat in hand glitch, then when the power-up where off you still have a hat in hand, even though you never got your real hat back, so talking to an Npc, or triggering a cut scene will make mario put on the fake hat, and it will provide the same protection as the real hat. The hat disapear when you leave the world, and also load a new area, like going inside the pyramid.
Kinda neat that there are several levels to perform this one

When you grab an item with a cap in your hand like that, Mario is still actually holding that item. When he releases it or throws it in this state, the item will teleport to the Held Object's Last Position (HOLP). In normal gameplay, the HOLP will update to slightly in front of and above Mario the moment he releases or throws an item, but won't when using this cap glitch, allowing you to teleport things around any level with this glitch as long as you can set up the HOLP first.

You can also duplicate so many caps that the game starts lagging. Just keep warping back and forth, and every time you do, another cap is created. And after a while, the game will start lagging, and eventually it’ll crash. But it’s fun to put on like 20 caps on a row :P

Cap doesn't need to be on the side of the pillar, it can just be on the ground. All you need to do is go through the warp.
And I think you can keep doing that to stack the hats and maybe crash the game?
