The timing I used when I did this glitch as a kid was to turn off the game the moment the entire text box was displayed. Works in Crystal version too (even though some people insist that it doesn't with the other timing method).
It worked flawlessly for me all through my game until I tried cloning the Celebi I got by sending in my cartridge to Nintendo; it ended up deleting my Celebi altogether. Maybe they somehow copy-protected it? To this day I still don't know.
@@CayenneGaramonde Nah, they couldn't possibly program something like that in a gen 2 game. Just bad luck with the timing. I actually won my copy of Crystal in a KidsWB contest and was able to clone the gift pokemon that came with it. Although on one attempt I got a bad clone when trying to duplicate Surfing Pikachu (which I have since learned can be used to glitch in a shiny Celebi). It freaked me out, so I released it and never tried cloning the original again.
They actually did program the games in a way that prevents the player from getting a Celebi when trading with Gen I.
There is a table for the Time Capsule that tells the game what Gen I Pokémon hex number is the Gen II counterpart. It also includes Gen II Pokémon for no particular reason. If you modify a glitch Pokémon in Gen I, you can convert it into a Gen II Pokémon. However, the table that does this has no entry for Celebi.

Just want to point out that this glitch also works in Pokémon Crystal, but it is a rhymes-with-glitch to pull off because the timing is much more precise than in Gold/Silver.
So, uh, what starter did Silver pick after you took 'em all??
The game doesn't register the glitch starters as having been caught. They aren't even in the pokedex. So it's the one you last choose that is considered your starter.

@@CesarTorres61296 Yes and Breeding them will allow you to fill the whole Pokédex.
@@CesarTorres61296 Yes, it registers the evolved forms perfectly fine. To register the first forms of the other 2, you have to either breed them or trade them and then trade back.

Legit one of my Favorite Pokémon Games.
Gold And Silver are so dang good!
Mostly because of the Environment of the Region and stuff!
This glitch also works on the 3DS VC ports of GSC and is actually easier to do in those ports because of how the 3DS handles resetting games. The trick is also handy for cloning items like Master Balls (easy capture of legendaries and Celebi in the VC ports), PP items, Rare Candies, Max Revives, TMs (I think?) and other limited items that can’t be bought. Just be sure to release the cloned Pokémon after taking the items from them or your boxes will fill up fast 😂
I'll definitely have to do this glitch when I'm 85 and finally have the tine to go back to my old games.

I’ve actually done this in the virtual console to have a fun and unique run of Silver using only story-relevant Pokémon, like the starters, the red gyarados, and the togepi egg.That Togepi saved my bum in Morty’s gym.
You can finally relive the Ash's experience of a team of starters. Though good luck on finding a shiny Noctowl.
Breeding for a shiny Noctowl.
S Gyarados (M)+ Ekans (F) -> S Ekans (M) + Farfetch'd (F) -> Shiny Farfetch'd (M) + Hoothoot (F) -> Shiny Noctowl.
Shininess is based on DVs in which MOST can be bred through. 2 shinies breeding mean that there cannot be a shiny Pokemon.
That's how you get your shiny Noctowl and can work in Gold because of the slot machines.
Still easier than making friends to trade with... Or if you're like me, buying 2 gameboys, a link cable, a copy of gold & silver and restarting a file over and over while trading each starter over to my main game. Haha what a childhood I had.

There’s so much you can do with the cloning and coin case glitch. I’ve abused the hell out of it. I’ve gotten a shiny Mew to pass the checks to transfer all the way up to sword and shield from the virtual console. You can make any Pokémon appear in eggs and manipulate their shiny status and as long as the moves they have are legal transfer them up to the newest generation games. It’s loads of fun
I used to do this all the time. Such a fun glitch. There was some other things you could do with this as well but it's been a while.
This glitch is very useful during the whole game for cloning items you want like Rare Candies and Master Balls.
Another thing you didn't mention is that only the last starter you get.is in the Pokedex. That can be fixed by breeding one later.

Huh...I actually didn't know you could use a glitch to get all 3 starters without trades but I did know about the cloning technique for other Pokémon or for cloning items. This is actually pretty interesting and I'll have to try it for myself.

Fun fact, you can use this exact same method to duplicate a Pokémon as many times as you want.
Just save in front of the PC with the Pokémon of your choice in your team, put it in a box, do the process explained in the video and when you will reopen the game you'll have the pokemon in your team and in the PC at the same time 😃.

Yep, did this one and the cloning glitch in Emerald.
One New Game + Save/Reset Glitch 2x = All 3 Starters
One New Game + Save/Reset Glitch 8x = All 3 Starters (3 each of the same species each)
Why you would want to do this? Easy, so you can have 9 different Pokemon on your team.
(Example: 1 Cyndaquil, 1 Quilava, and 1 Typhlosion)
Bonus: One New Game + Save/Reset (Infinitive)x, till you get bored = Infinite Trades to catch the Pokemon you love...
However it's not the year 2000, on Gameboy Color anymore, due to us using your Switch Consoles as it is.

Cover the glitch that allows you to catch any Pokemon based on the Special stat of your Pokémon after Ditto transforms into it after flying away from a long distance trainer! Years ago I used this to complex my Pokédex in Red without ever using a link cable. It is commonly known as the mew glitch because a fairly low special stat of 21 corresponds to mew, obviously the most desirable Pokémon to catch. It requires a bit of planning, in particular I kept a list of easily accessible trainers I made sure to skip fighting, because each use of the glitch requires one trainer to be fought and thus if you aren't careful and fight too many trainers, filling the Pokédex becomes impossible.
This is a list of what special stat is required for which Pokémon:

Furthermore, you can perform a glitch within this glitch! You will normal see level 7 Pokémon, this is because the attack level modifier is by default 7 and for some reason used for the level just as the special stat was used to determine the Pokémon seen, so growl at ditto 6 times after they transform and you will catch a level 1 Pokémon. This is normally impossible and some Pokémon have level scaling that performs strangely here. For example, a level 1 mew has negative experience. Have your whole team including mew fight a weak Pidgey to gain almost no experience and mew's experience will experience an underflow error and jump up to the maximum possible integer, resulting in instantly leveling up to 100. This is particularly not an issue at all with mew because rather than learning moves from leveling up you will most likely want to give mew TMs instead. This is more than sufficient for easily winning any battle in the game, though I didn't want to make the rest of the playthrough boring so I didn't use this mew until the Elite 4, which was a breeze.
If you want the first two in your Pokédex, you'll need to breed new ones.

I forgot all about this glitch. I usually used the glitch to get multiple master balls though. Fun to see it again though.

holy shit i remember when this game came out and it blew my mind because IT HAD COLOR!!! like actual color not what first gen had. it was like so damn crazy to have a gameboy game with color (i only had 2 and both were mostly black and white lol)
I love doing this glitch but I personally keep all of the starters holding Berries so that I can heal the Miltank at the farm faster to get the TM for Snore.

Unfortunately, some Pokemon are still locked behind different version, so Catch 'em All ain't possible unless you thinking to play both of them and trade one after another.
One question, does this work in Crystal as well or was it patched out (similar to how the Red and Blue Safari Zone softlock was patched in Yellow)?

It does work on Crystal, but you had to wait for a least 1 second after the sentence was finishes off resetting. Somewhat late timing, but it's still relatively the same process.
I remember doing this as a kid. I discovered it by myself and noone wanted to believe it. Stupid kids.
Only downside to this glitch: The cloned starter Pokemon don't appear in the Pokedex. To add them you have to hatch them through eggs later in the game.
I'm going to use this to just get 3 Cyndaquils

There are about a half dozen ways to get Celebi, so you need to be more specific. :P

A nice tip is to start with cloning Totodile (Water 1/Monster) first and get a female one. Later on, if you get a male shiny gyarados [Dragon/Water 2] (guaranteed later in the game, except for the gender) breeding with a Horsea (Water 1/Dragon) you have a really easy chance of breeding a shiny Totodile (I think it's a 1/31 chance of a shiny but I'm not certain.)

I remember that they patched this exploit in Pokémon Crystal, so while I was super excited to get animated Pokémon, I remember my friends (who owned Gold/Silver) getting to abuse this glitch to clone Master Balls and Legendary Pokémon, and was maybe a little envious.
That’s actually false! Cloning glitch absolutely works in Crystal. The timing is different than in Gold and Silver but it works for sure, I always do it.
And it screws up your save function 😡😡😡

Now i can now get all starter on gold and silver on the app my old gameboy to only Android mobil. Android mobil have too the app My gameboy advance. Moto have too of Android buy Moto. I have both app on my Moto mobil. My old gameboy have GB and GBC. My gameboy advance have GBA.
