    In this Casio W-86 review video, I take a look at the best alternative to the Casio F-91W... its successor if you will. This Casio W86 has several clear advantages and one or two slight disadvantages to consider. Either way, I think it's still the best cheap Casio digital watch out there right now.

    The crap backlight in the F-91W is part of its charm.

      i don’t love the f-91w i got mine this this past christmas and it’s the only watch that doesn’t bother my wrist, its very very very useful and durable and i don’t see why he says “ the edges are more difined, the angular cut outs are the only different part and i’ve dinged and hit my f-91w up quite a lot and it has never scratched! it looks like it does but if you rub it with a shirt sleeve it’s gone😂! but that’s just my opinion and say, it’s different for everyone i know everything isn’t the same!!

    I work in security in the UK and have had the W-86 for a year or so now. I work 6 12hr night shifts out of every 8 so it lives on my wrist as it's tough, durable, functional, reliable, comfortable, rarely gets in the way, and costed me £8 from Amazon.
    I own other nicer watches which I will switch to occasionally on my days off if I have made social plans but otherwise it only comes off the wrist during bath of shower time when I will wash it (submerged) and dry it again before I then wash myself!
    I actually miss it when I have nicer watches on because of the functionality and how at home it feels on the wrist.
    One year when the battery dies I will replace the battery instead of the watch just out of sentiment and worst case scenario if it needs replacing I can always afford to. The watch that loves you more than it loves it'self!

    Got one on my wrist right now. Been running about six years now without a battery change and still seems fine. No complaints at all (other than the fact I wouldn’t be especially confident getting it wet), especially considering it costs basically nothing.

    • @MuscleBandit
      @MuscleBandit 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      They are perfectly fine in water unless you get really unlucky or consistently spend hours pushing the buttons while the watch is submerged.
      I take mine off before bath time and chuck it into the bubble bath for a few minutes before I get in myself, wash it before i wash myself, then leave it to dry while I wash, then towel dry the watch and we're both good to go!
      Also, there is a russian guy who pressure tests all manor of watches in an underwater pressure chamber watch goes to thousands of bar of pressure, it's amazing how deep under water casio watches can go before they start to fail, most can go deeper than the deepest scuba divers can safely dive to so they are fine to take swimming etc unless you get really unlucky with a Monday watch. Enjoy.

      @RaniaIsAwesome people who "have something wrong with their eyes" also deserve to enjoy an excellent watch. Also, the difference in the light of the F91 and the F105 is very noticeable and the illuminator back light is a serious upgrade on the f91 light.

      @nplus1watches35 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I have the F-91W, F-105, and W-86 (thanks to Ben) and I'd say the 91 and 105 are very similar except for the backlight, with the 86 being slightly larger in every dimension so has a bit more wrist presence. As stated the 86 is the only one that says it has 5 bar WR, though I bet if you wanted to push your luck you could probably go do 5 bar activities (i.e. swimming) w/ the 91 or 105 and they'd be just fine. It's a bummer that the 86 appears to be an EU (or maybe UK) market watch so you really have to go looking under a bunch of rocks to get this at a reasonable price (for what it is) if you live in North America. At a little over 20something grams, all of these watches pretty much disappear on the wrist, small or not.

  • @Quicksilver_Cookie

    I think main draw of F91 is that it's an absolute legend, and a childhood memory for many - for a price of a meal in your fastfood place of choice. I got one just to be in a collection. Wear it around house doing chores and such, it virtually weighs nothing. Might as well not be there. But as I've said beyond simplicity and hilariously low price - it's just a part of pop culture people like to have. There are better digital watches. There are better digital watches from Casio. But there's only one watch you wore when you were 7. When summers seemed to last forever, and life was worry-free. And for many it was the F91.

    Nice review! This one looks as if it would fit my wrist a bit better than the classic F91. I'm a husky guy and it's just too small to look right.
    Thought to ask this before, but never did. I know you're not a fan of the brand (me neither), but any chance you'd take a look at the Fossil Retro Digital? I've had one for almost a year now (FS5844) and I love it. Threw an aftermarket solid steel bracelet on it and it scratches that itch I've always had for a fully steel digital watch. Roughly the same size as the Casio 5600, maybe a tad wider. Might make an interesting video after the last Fossil review, hah.

    I have tried both the W96 and the F91W. I lean towards the F91W more, it is just a tiny bit more svelt and comfortable.
    Sure the light on the W96 is vastly superior, and so is the water resistance is better. But day to day I've not noticed that the water resistance matters. I've even dived down to 10 metres with an F91W without any problem and I've paddle boarded all summer long without issues either.

    The better light is nice, but I still prefer the strap and general aesthetic of the A158W for my F-91W alternative.

    I couldn't find the Casio F-87W (415 F-87) in the video but luckily I found my own Casio F-87W in a shoe box, and my Casio 503 SDB-300W as well. The F-87 won't work, but I managed to get the other one started. However, the two front buttons don't work properly. :-(

    I know most people gravitate more towards the W217H as the real successor, but to me that looked like a brash F91W. I feel like W217H and the F91W are meant to give like a His and Hers feel.

    It's nice but I prefer the f-91w as I'm not a fan of that one's strap. My favourite Casio is by far the A163W but noone ever seems to talk about it, I can't find much info at all on it.
    Top vid as always!

    Wearing the W-86 right now. But mostly I wear the F91 by day and in the morning...and in the evenings the F105.... Going out the A168 Silver...and Gold on the Weekends...and the W86 when going out Casually.

    This was a good video, but there _is_ one extremely big key problem:
    The F91w was used in Morbius by the legendary actor Michael Morbius, therefore the F91w is objectively better not only than the alternatives presented, but also every Rolex (specifically Rolex).

    Can you guys do me a favor? 😄 My F-91 just arrived and I've noticed that it makes some weird rattling sound when shaken side to side (there is no rattle when the watch is shaked dial up and down). It does not sound like something is broken because it makes the same noice all the time while shaken so its not like some part is broken and moves freely inside the case. All the buttons and functions work normally. Any idea?

    I suspect the W86 is a UK model. Can't find it anywhere in the states. We have the F105W-1A, which looks similar. The band on the W86 looks much nicer. Until I can get my hands on the W86, I'll just have to enjoy the W217H, which I'm pretty smitten with.

    The W86 does not show up on Amazon US, and the A168 is going for $14.99. Unless you insist on a black watch you may as well go for the A168, which is $2.00 more than the cheapest F91 model I found.

    The W-86 is essentially an F-91W with a light modification yet the F-91w is still the world's best selling watch. That tells you that the F-91w is more than just a watch. It genuinely is an icon of our times. It's gone beyond just being a watch into being God tier. Not many watches manage that.
