Smm2 is the only game I can confidently say has bad online, not sure why. Maybe the servers are already working to upload levels?? Other than that game, it's relatively smooth sailing
@SparksterlotI think a big problem comes from the Switch's dual home/portable console design. Plenty of people are playing in handheld mode, and many more don't have the LAN adapter to have a wired, more stable connection.
City Trial was such a genius mode. I still play it on emulator every once in a while and it holds up remarkably well. I'm still waiting for a new game to come out with a similar concept. Smash run on for Smash 4 on 3ds was the only thing that really scratched the same itch.
My siblings and I played the absolute shit out of this game back in the day. We even completed all the challenges in each mode. City Trial was the highlight of our plays usually and then the random events at the end were hype af. Even better when one of us finds a piece of the Dragoon or Hydra and it's GAME ON. We'd go after each other trying to get pieces and find the others before we time out. If one of us does get it, we'd go after the others trying to kill their Rides to fuck them up on the Event Round. Best times of my life right there. I still have my copy actually, damn now I wanna grab my brother and play again! 😅 We were literally just talking about the game the other day about how the LAN mode worked and how we should try to get it to work for fun but that involves an extra copy and TV. My faves are Wagon and Swerve Star. Wagon for the meme, Swerve for the speed.
The fact that Kirby Air Ride is finally getting the recognition it deserves (well, more widespread recognition lol) is incredible. Hell, the fact that it even HAS a competitive scene still blows my mind to this day. Keep it up! This game is so much fun and competitive play goes incredibly hard.

Even though I enjoy the Kirby series, KAR has always been my absolute favorite, and it's all because of City Trial. To this day, not only do I wish they would've brought Smash Run outside of the 3DS (UUUUUGH), but man, I REALLY want them to make a new Kirby Air Ride game for the Switch For the time being though, it makes me so glad to see the Kirby Air Ride scene doing as well as it is, and this netplay stuff looks really fun! Might have to give it a shot soon :o

Remember, you don't have to be competitive to get into this. It's just a place to play the game online, that's why it's called the Kirby Air Ride Netplay server. For the competitive folks there are tournaments occasionally but it really isn't just all about that. I can tell you, 4 player City Trial online is usually considered a lot more fun than just competitive 1v1s. It's a lot more dynamic, more chaotic and less one-sided. The meta is also different when there are more than 2 players in the match. Definitely check it out if you're Air Ride fan, it's very refreshing compared to playing solo versus CPUs or something.
This was a HUGE child hood game growing up and sometimes the games i used to play back then I dont play for very long. But kirby air ride is not one of those. To this day i can easily put multiple hrs in this game on dolphin. Truly an great game to this day

I need to clarify that the red boxes are random esque. There definitely is a pattern to them and certain locations that have red boxes will always give you a vehicle piece. Ah the memories.

One last flaw of the hydra you failed to mention: everytime you get hit, the machine becomes unable to move for like a half second. So if someone combos you or has spikes, your toast, can't move
Kirby Airride was our favorite gamecube multiplayer game! My brother and I used to spend a LOT of time in city trial, both normal mode and freeplay. The racing modes were nice, but the city BR style mode was just soo cool. Way ahead of its time. I truely hope they'll remaster this absolute GEM in the future.

The way that everyone's personality comes through in their favorite cart - Swerve & Wheelie are my favorites, but some hate both of those, haha. Top Rider is absolutely underrated. It should be an app. And the checklists in this game are SO satisfying! I would genuinely put this game on a VERY short list of games that were made 20+ years ago that are still fun today: SFIII Third Strike, Metal Gear Solid, SSBM, GTA3, Grim Fandango, Halo (y'all know which 1), SM Sunshine, Spyro, FF6, KoToR, and plenty more I missed.
Hate the fortnite comparison, but had to pause at 3:37 for the *_SHEER DOPAMINE OVERLOAD BECAUSE HOLY CRAP THAT SUBSPACE EMISSARY CUTSCENE_* God I love Air Ride But there actually _is_ a catch to finding pieces of the Legendary Air Ride machines. The red boxes that hold them never disappear and only drop in certain places. Some of these places are the following: *Guaranteed in:* - pink paths/dilapidated houses zone - Green Canvas - caves underneath forest - caves underneath Heat Top *Certain parts of these spots:* - Electric Lounge - City Hall - the ocean/shores - the place where all the machines are in Free Run (typically the routes to the forest/City Wharf) I find if you're looking for that last piece of one or the other, racing through those above areas in search of a box icon will eventually lead you to that last part. And if you aren't sure if a red box you see has a piece or not, say if it's in one of the maybe spots, _crack_ it, don't break it. Crack it as a way of marking it, because if it holds a piece, it won't disappear. Come back to that spot after a while and see if the box is still there. If it's gone, it was an ability. If it's still there, it's a legendary machine piece. Hope all this helps!

Why did so many if us use the free roam mode to roleplay and just explore? My brother and I would pretend to live in certain areas (he was in the volcano and I was on top of the highrise) and visit each other. We would sit in the wirlpools and just spin endlessly.

Why did so many if us use the free roam mode to roleplay and just explore? My brother and I would pretend to live in certain areas (he was in the volcano and I was on top of the highrise) and visit each other. We would sit in the wirlpools and just spin endlessly.
