Hello Richard, I have an Opel Astra car that has a malfunction that I did not know and the mechanics also did not know..which is that the car has weak movement and cuts when stepping on the gas, and also the RPM indicator does not exceed 3000
Hi Richard, I have a 1999 astra 1.8 g. the engine light comes on after it warms up. After a week or 2 it stayed on constantly. I've changed the coil pack and plugs but no difference. The spark plug on the drivers side is black with carbon deposit and dry. Any ideas?
Bought a Astra earlier no engine management light came up the hill not steep thinking i was in 2nd but was 4th put foot down on clutch and no revs passed 1000 rpm, turned engine off and back on and now engine management lights on, any advice please as i already had a nightmare with previous car [84000 miles timing belt/water pump not done yet] on next thing to do, i did get told that the thermo censor was changed in january and there was an after market air filter installed but never had the issue with previous owner 😊
Hi again Richard Im sorry to comment again. I have pulled all the plugs out all sparking well and strong. The misfire is on cylinder 3 I noticed that when turning the car over the cylinders were all wet with moisture apart from 3 which was dry. But there is no misfire when revving and driving only at idle it hunts. Would the timing affect that cylinder being dry or a faulty injector
Hi Joe it looks like your well on the way to solving the problem your self ..it could well be that no3 injector is faulty ...and it is not allowing enough fuel through to the cylinder /spark plug ..a simple test to do is get large screw driver and when the engine is ticking over put the blade end onto each injector and then put your ear onto the end of the handle ( like a doctor does when they use a stethoscope...you should hear a constant clicking as the injector opens and closes .. if you do not get a consistent clicking on no3 cylinder or it’s really quite there’s your problem .. but warning ⚠️ be careful as the engine is running and you could get burned or catch your clothes on moving/ rotating parts of the engine ..if your unsure I would leave it to the mechanic.. hope that helps Regards Richard
Hi Marcjamesjamos it certainly could be the coil pack but best to do fault finding first to eliminate other components that could cause a miss fire .. i would be looking at the spark plugs
@@richardshomemechanics5566 thanks. I'm a newbie with all this... the car drives fine at first then begins to miss fire after a while.. it's getting worse though.. I will try and go through your tests:)
Hi Richard, I have opel astra H 1.6 gasoline from 2006, I've had engine failure on 200 000km and I had it fixed, they changed pretty much everything that was necessary but there is one problem that can't go away. When I drive it for about 10 minutes, the check engine lamp starts to flash and cylinder misfire happens. I stop, turn the engine off, pull out the key, turn it back on and it runs normally again. None of the mechanics in my city can diagnose the problem, they tried all they could they say. Would you have any ideas? also I can run more kilometers without issues if I just keep the rpm low. The faster I go the faster the misfire will happen.
Hi Sugarcoat What your describing does sound like a accessory is breaking down when it is either getting hot or under load .. for example when you accelerate fast …I would still be looking at the coil or the spark plug .. you need to find out what cylinder is missing … see my videos on how to do this .. also you need to check that the injectors are working and putting fuel into the cylinder ..see my videos on how to do this … hope that helps .. Thank you for commenting on my channel Regards Richard👍
Hi pal. I have an issue. It missfires after I've been driving for about 2 hours. They changed the spark plugs and coil but did it again. Says its on cylinder one the misfire. Which one is cylinder one.
I have a 2003 Mk4 G Astra, did the spark plug tests, all 4 were making the spark noise, but the engine didn't stall on any of them. Is that a sign of a bad pack?
Hi Wonder fuller Your misfire could well be the coil pack that sits on top of the spark plugs it’s time to do some testing as it could also be fuel related
Hi Nikola when you go up hill you are putting the car under load so you ignition coil and spark plugs are also put under extra load and if you have a spark ⚡️ that is starting to fail it will when put under load..you will need to start fault finding .. start with the electrical side first and if that’s good ..start fault finding the fuel side Hope that helps Please don’t forget to subscribe and set the notification bell 🛎 on my channel as I’m slowly trying to build it up Kind regards Richard
Richard I have a zafira b 1.6 just had timing belt change and now I have a misfire. The tdc on the crank is slightly out when you put the belt k. Tension would this cause the misfire
Hi Joe what you need to do is back track ...before you changed the timing belt was the car running ok with no miss fire 🔥 if it was then it’s related to the belt change or something has not been put back correctly during the belt change ...it’s important that’s all the timing marks line up on the crank as well as the cam...just one tooth out on the timing mark can make a big difference and certainly can cause a miss fire 🔥.. check that every thing has been connected correctly and as you say if that timing marks do not line this also needs to be corrected this will and can cause damage to the engine by the valves hitting the pistons ..hope that helps Regards Richard
@@richardshomemechanics5566 yes no problems before the mechanic touched it. Now engine management light is on. Slight misfire on idle. He did not lock the valves in place with the rocker off. Only on the cam wheels. We put the new belt on with tension keeps pulling out the crank from tdc by few mm so he is coming back to do it properly if it's not too late as we moved the engine round before and no knocking and car drives fine at high revs with no misfire. I changed the coil still the same must be what he done to it
@@joegleeson2958 strange that it revs ok but rough on idle it’s good the mechanic is coming back to have a look for you .. because you have a engine management light on you can now plug in a Scanner OBD2 reader and see why the lights on .. things do just go like that and fail it’ may have nothing to do with the belt change it may be as simple as a plug missing good luck I’m sure your find the problem and get your car running perfectly lagain
@@richardshomemechanics5566 yes my mechanics theory is its had a new bottom end as its so clean down there and the previous person has adjusted everything to a stretched belt hence when we put a nice new one on its slightly out on timing due to being tight and pulling it out slightly out on the crank hence the idle being rough as the valves are set different he is coming this week I will keep you updated. Hi mate I have Astra 1.6 2011 my car is hunting a lot and on the long journeys stablitrack sign comes up and car looses power
After distributor cap contacts fail, i had problem when i try to accelerate engine especially when was a moist day. I replace it and the rotor also !
Hi have you changed your spark plugs as when under load ( when you are accelerating) they can miss and cause hesitation 😆

What engine is in the astra?
Hi cal sorry I can’t remember the engine number in the Astra but testing should be the same if it’s set up the same
Thanks

The engine in the video looks to be a Z16SE (L55) which has a multiport fuel injection system and fly-by-wire throttle.
