I have a Genesis GV80. I like luxury and feeling pampered, and the little details like soft-closing doors, privacy screens on the back doors, reading the road for bumps, self-parking etc. My next vehicle? GV80 again, thank you!
Nice fair review. Of those two I would take the BMW, but only for one reason, I hate that steering wheel, deal breaker for me, and BMW does make fine vehicles. I love Genesis, bought one of the first 2022 GV70 3.5 Sport Prestige's back in November 2021. They had some 2.5's on the lot, but only trims with the 2 spoke wheel, and I didn't even consider them. We buy with our eyes first, Genesis' sport steering wheel is beautiful, they are already phasing out the unpopular 2 arm wheel on many models. That aside Genesis makes beautiful vehicles, inside and out, super quiet, luxury first, but you can have fun in the G70, GV70 and G80, strong product line.
I can’t get past that steering wheel, either. The grill is also hideous. That said, charging Luxury car prices for a brand new, unproven luxury performance brand is a tough sell for me. I bought the x5 and it wasn’t close.
You’ll be surprised to hear that last year BMW ranked as one of the top 3 most reliable brands by Consumer Reports 2022. 65 points for BMW and 52 for Genesis. Only beaten by Toyota and Lexus. BMW has really upped their game the last few years 🎉
then why don't they stand behind it with a better warranty? genesis reliability speaks for itself: 10years/100k miles on drive train. 5years/60k bumper to bumper with 3 year free valet service. it's truly unbeatable.
Bmw motor is the best anywhere. The X5, Gv 80 and the Audi q7 are everywhere in Austin now. The Teslas are most of the new cars, but these others fill up the rest of the road.
Did the new X5 get shorter? I saw one at a dealership the other day and thought it was an X3, but chalked it up to the air suspension being in it’s low position. The hoodline of the G05 X5 was definitely higher than the GV80’s. Now not so much…
I would go with Genesis mostly because I'm leaning more toward luxury. Sharp, precise steering and controlled handling are optional for my daily commute.
I'm probably one of the older people to respond - here's my take. Drove original muscle cars in the 60's, mine was a 61 Ford Galaxy 500 406CI, 405HP tied to a floor mounted 4speed with a 4:11 rear. A BSA Golden Rocket 650. That was 60 years ago, I had the road to do it. I'm on Long Island, NY...today, I can't drive 3 blocks without hitting a traffic light, a stop sign, a yield or a school bus pushing out 6yo's. Today its comfort. NO ONE can tell me they can feel the difference between 375 or 400HP when leaving a red light in an urban setting. I drive a 2023 GV80 2.5 turbo and generally pull ahead of the traffic...yes, a heavy foot and to be very honest...have not a clue as to mileage. Old school...when the needle gets to te 1/4, find a gas station. EVERY CAR can run as smooth as the road under them! On some roads, I won't go over 30MPH for fear of teeth chatter..thats in a BMW, a GV80 or a GLE450. On other roads - like the Garden State Pkwy in New Jersey, I'm comfortable with cruise set at 80MPH while getting a massage - from the seat, sadly. IMHO..and only mine...I find German cars to ride rough with hard seats. I've been a Lexus RX350 fan for years and love the quiet soft ride...not sporty, not economy., just comfort. Today, I feel the same about the Genesis lineup...I see the brand as the new Toyota Comfortable, quiet refined luxury
X5 >>> edit: X5 because of engine, fuel economy/efficiency, split tailgate, better infotainment, better dynamics and it's at least a second faster than the GV80.
The first thing you said about the Genesis is it has more harshness over bumps. How is that more luxury than the BMW? Even if the Genesis has lower profile tires, that does not excuse it. The engineers should have accounted for that.
