@Broken Native Quality of American cars has improved a lot in the past 15 years. I drive a 2011 Ford flex 3.5 L twin turbo tunned at over 420 horsepower and 435 lbs of torque, 6 seater leather, 3 sunroofs, etc. At 157,000 miles, it is very fast and sporty, no issues (changed struts because bad roads and headlight bulbs because i drive with lights on at all times), no plans to replace the car yet as they go to 250,000 miles (I take care of my cars with Mobil 1 oil and changing fluids reguarly). I would imagine a 10 year newer Lincoln (not Ford) model would be much better. By the way, I used to be an Acura guy but I switched because I wanted more power and room. Additionally I gave away my 1997 Ford Mustang in running condition (no known issues) at 250,000 miles and that gave me confidence in Ford brand.

Trading the caddy for a sierra at4x so i actually agree. For me, american cars became bad quality in the 80's and started coming up in the 2010's
why? its actually more expensive in Canada then the Aviator and who know what the resale will be in 3-5 year. If anything like the G70 and G80, that hold their value quite poorly compared to other luxury vets. At the end of the day, it still a Hyundai

I’ve driven them, the Genesis is a little sportier but the Aviator is much better for someone who drives a lot because it is more comfortable long term. Deff a hard decision
@@BC08 I test drove the "Black Label" version of the Aviator with the air ride suspension and it rode amazingly well. You're about the 3rd person in different videos I've seen comment that don't get them with the air ride suspension. I hope to go back and test drive one without the air ride suspension to see just how much of a difference the ride is without it. If you don't mind me asking, what's the reason for your suggestion against the air ride suspension?

Ive heard different critics say that burgundy velvet color is marketed toward the elderly. I know multiple people who are younger who love this color. The Lincoln seems to have better proportions from the profile view. The grill seems just right and makes the GV80 grill seem oversized. Its clearly slightly larger. Add the 400 ponies and it becomes difficult to overcome. So impressed with what Genesis had been doing though.

@@tavo3234 Yes! I looked at the X5, Aviator, and Land Rover Discovery. The Aviator had everything I wanted in 1 complete package where everything was extra on the other vehicles. I really do enjoy driving it and every time I walk out to my car it still looks as striking as the day I bought it.

The end was great and the definition of “non- American” evaluation. “The genesis is just better in almost everything except power and space (roomier) and a little comfort”. Ok got it, you like the more European look but the aviator is what an American wants is what you’re trying to say. I still can’t get over it. “Genesis is better except for space, power, and comfort”. Yea, at 6-3, 230 lbs, and a male (lover of power), I have the aviator. Genesis looks sharp and all but power and room are top of the list priorities for most American men.
I went out to purchase a 2023 Lincoln Aviator yesterday. Every Ford Explorer & Lincoln Aviator are in lockdown and awaiting authorization from the manufacturer to resolve the recall of their rear camera. You will not be allowed to test drive the vehicle outside the parking lot. The Aviator Reserve is full luxury with two additional higher trim levels. I test drove the Aviator Black Label ( Parking lot only) $86K. Honestly I could not justify the price for that SUV? Great luxury and style, but way overpriced. I can’t speak for the Genesis.

@@patmason7276 i was very specific about the 2 things that I found distasteful about the genesis and ill add the fact that I find the styling very gaudy which I know alot of younger Americans will like., hell listen to the crap we call music so that don't surprise me at all. I like the classy quiet essence that the Lincoln gives because it better fits my personality. If your loud and have to scream I've arrived then the genesis may be more to your liking and that's ok. I don't like the 6.2 but Cadillac only uses that in full sized suv's which genesis doesn't offer and they have nothing close to a black wing.
My current two picks in my price range for 3 row luxury SUV under 75k. Probably will be going with the Aviator though. The power and exterior looks got me sold.

I have the GV80 3.5T Prestige in Cardiff Green ext. w/Green/ Smoky Brown interior. I was parked near the exact Aviator when I stopped by my local Costco and absolutely no one was noticing the Aviator. I was getting looks, compliments and people either filming or taking pictures. After leaving the inside of the store and was loading my groceries a lady seemed to have been waiting for "whoever" was driving the GV80 to come out and she drove around to get right next to me to ask for a look inside. She was just saying how beautiful it was and was telling someone on the phone too. I assume her husband. She said she's in love with that car. I'll bet He's going to have to buy her one now!

Purchased an Aviator Reserve yesterday, so excited for delivery. Do yourself a favor and give it a test drive, I drive a loaded S90 Inscription and was in the market for an X5 and GLE...until we test drove this! Those cars rear seats don't even recline! The Scottish leather on the Aviator is sublime, and the space and luxury, tech, power, warranty, practicality package...you get for the same to less compared to those smaller vehicles...there's little compromise I promise. It's as impressive as it looks 👌 what sold us is cargo area with 3rd row down. Better than the Armada we traded in!!! In fact better space with or without 3rd row than the Armada!! Perfect for my chocolate lab and my Golden Retriever to be comfortable on trips, and we did captains chairs on the rear for our 2 teenagers. :)
@AireonT mechanically it was fine up to 44k miles and nearly 3 yrs, but the recalls kept piling up and the backup camera bluescreen glitch wasn't remedied after numerous tries. We took some positive equity and just traded it down for an Atlas Peak Edition. Needed something with better passenger configuration and more rugged seating to withstand traveling with my large dogs. Both rear captains chairs suffered punctures from my chocolate lab, the leather was incredibly soft and thin in spots.
Correction on park assist if you actually use the feature you will notice that it does all of the work for you. Gas, brake, and steering into parallel or perpendicular parking. Simply turn on the park assist, find a spot, walk through the on screen prompt of putting the vehicle in neutral and letting go of the steering wheel and brake. It will then ask you to hold the park button and it will do 100% of the work for you using the 360 sensors to ensure proper parking.

Althoiugh I have a 2019 Acura MDX and saw the 2022 - which is impressive with many strong enhancements, the lease comes due in JUne 2022.. Acura is great for offering TRade ups , but this is a little early. The GV80 is Winking at me very strongly...... so I may be compelled to Wait :) :)....

Excellent and helpful review. When I think of the word luxury, the first adjective that comes to my mind is quiet. Your test and observations sold me on the Genesis for this reason alone (although you made other valid points as to why the Genesis is the wiser choice). Well done!!
I know what you mean BoxterBenz. I bought a 2017 Ridgeline because Car and Driver claimed it was quieter than an S Class. It wasn’t. It became quieter after significant sound deadening that I installed. Now I have a Ram 1500 Limited and it is far more quiet than the Ridgeline. Decibel ratings is just one measure of sound. The quality of the sound is not really measured by a device. Glad you found a quiet vehicle and the Lincoln is still a looker.
@@boxsterbenz4059 I agree. I test drove both these vehicles. I drove the GV80 first and had no major complaint, other than a little engine noise that I heard. But once I sat behind the wheel of the Aviator and accelerated, I was amazed at how much more powerful and quiet the engine and cabin were than the GV80's.
While the guy in the video seems to go into great detail, there’s a lot he glosses over or simply doesn’t mention. I drove both but ended up buying the Aviator. Why? Number one reason was the styling. I don’t like the front end of the Genesis at all. I do like the profile though. But it’s the interior that really turns me off. Too garish for me. Definitely don’t like the screen placement. Too far away from the driver to easily reach and while it’s wide, it’s very short. And speaking of the screen, the driver’s info interface has got to be one of the worst ever. It’s menus are clunky and not intuitive at all. Regarding how it drives, it feels weak most of the time. Only having any power once the engine gets rev’d up. And I felt the ride quality was too harsh.Overall, the vehicle is trying to be something it’s not. While I’m sure there are plenty of buyers out there that love the idea of many commenting that it looks like a Bentley, to me that’s a detractor. Regarding the Aviator, it just seems to do everything right. Great ride. Great handling. Powerful. And it’s not trying to be something it’s not.

Thanks for the back to back decibel readings. We consumers of these videos aren't often treated to that comparison. I saw an Aviator in the grocery store lot and liked it but I'm all for a quieter interior. I also prefer the Genesis infotainment landscape layout vs. the larger, squarer one in the Lincoln.
Looking to get a new SUV for the wife...screwed up and looked at the GV80 Friday. Been running through the other dealerships and models this weekend and I think that we realized that we're just wasting our time looking for something else. Now we decided that we're not going down the European route....been there, done that for years and they make great cars, but I'm over the whole $700 oil changes and crap. For the price there is no competition in my opinion. We're kind of going back and forth on deciding if we want to go for the 3.5T Advanced or Prestige package; there are some nice things in the Prestige, but to be honest everything that I really care about is in the Advance package....I'm just not used to not buying something fully loaded. Biggest problem to be honest is that there are zero manufacturer incentives and I enjoy the "game" of negotiating and the dealer is pretty tough because there just isn't any inventory. I'm going to give it a week or two and see how many of these things move and know how much leverage I've got to get them to eat about half of the cost of the additional package.
@@monkeybearmaxI'll give you the short version....we hit a bunch of dealerships; there was only two GV80's in the Prestige trim and color that we wanted on the entire east coast at the time. Dealerships were marking them up and there is no way in hell that I'd ever do that. We ended up getting a 2022 MDX Advance. Paid $500 over dealer invoice and got KBB for my trade in which was more than I paid for it two years ago....couldn't walk away from that kind of a deal. It's not as fancy as the GV80 is, but it's the wife's car and she loves it. Only thing I hate is the infotainment is a touchpad. It's just not a good market to buy in right now. We'll probably hold onto this for about 2 years and trade it in when things settle down. There'll be a lot of updated models out there and I think that the GV80 is going to make some manufacturers step up their game.
Love both and very torn between the two. I wanted to go for the aviator but I've been hearing a lot of noise about reliability issues which is concerning this early into its production cycle :/
In my mind, the Lincoln is far ahead. There are even better options on the Lincoln than in the one reviewed here. Genesis is very nice, but there are tons of little details that put the Lincoln way over the top, in my view.
100,000 mile warranty vs 50,000 mile warranty…. And with the GV80 it’s bumper to bumper for 60,000 miles. I just hope the people who choose the Aviator can afford the repairs later on down the road.
What’s impressive is this is their first suv. Imagine the next and the ones to come. The first is very impressive and as time comes they will be blowing a lot of competition out the park for a great price. Amazing work genesis as the gv70 will be my best car for sure.

That Lincoln really looks dated and boxy... Especially the interior... Americans are not very good at interior, but man, WHAT is up with that big METAL thing in the middle..? WHY are the buttons all grouped up in the middle, WHY is there so much open, wasted space on the metal thing.. It looks like a big plate of sheet metal.... That sheet metal motif then appears nowhere else... Its like that sheet metal center console, wasn't even meant for this vehicle,.. BUT they grab it out from somewhere else and just install it...And since the center console doesnt fit, JUST FILL THE REST IN WITH THE SHEET METAL.... it doesn't fit with the rest of the interior.... That Genesis interior is a thing of beauty. Everything looks cohesive, and together. Its so simple, and elegant, and clean. Everything is right where it should be.

My GV-70 has been in the service department longer than it has been in my driveway. Battery keeps going dead and they can't figure it out. I love the car, but they can keep it. BUYER BEWARE!
Has anyone noticed an issue with the paint on the 2023 Aviator? All of the cars on the lot had these weird vertical dirt streaks going down the sides and back. The salesman said they just needed to be washed, but I’ve just never seen anything like that. I never wash my Explorer (just let the rain do it-lol), and I’ve never seen anything like it. I also noticed it on a few 2023 Explorers on the lot. Could be it a new Ford paint issue??? I love the Aviator, but that gave me pause.
Based on the look and additions in the GV70, I will wait fir the GV80 Sport in 2022. All are beautiful vehicles but I would prefer the GV80 in a Sport Edition.
just bought and took delivery of the aviator. having driven mercedes and porsche for years (still have a couple of them) the lincoln is a very impressive vehicle. the hyundai is also impressive. a lot of bang for your buck. but given that i want to support a north american brand and still have amazing luxury, power and ride i have to say that it's the aviator. easy decision.
If you are going to call the Genesis a Hyundai, you should be fair and call your Lincoln a Ford. Congratuations on your Aviator. It is a very nice vehicle.
I test drove the Genesis last week on a sunny day. I had on my sun glasses and pulled over to turn on the heads up display only to find out it was on, but could not be seen with sun glasses. I mentioned it to the sales person and he just said, yes.
Ford has been making reliable SUVs for generations. I would go Lincoln overall. Genesis put together a great interior, but that exterior looks disjointed bizarre and cheap Oldsmobile chrome appliqué to me. Both are good options and values vs the Germans and both would be lower maintenance and more reliable.
I love the genesis but in person the Lincoln is in class of its own it shows true American luxury

I own 2020 Aviator. driving is like the comfort in your living room. Seats fit firm.

Every Ford Explorer & Lincoln Aviator are in lockdown and awaiting authorization from the manufacturer to resolve the recall of their rear camera. You will not be allowed to test drive the vehicle outside the parking lot. The Aviator Reserve is full luxury with two additional higher trim levels. I test drove the Aviator Black Label ( Parking lot only) $86K. Honestly I could not justify the price for that SUV? Great luxury and style, but way overpriced. I can’t speak for the Genesis.
Both are gorgeous, I prefer the aviator but wouldn’t be mad at all with either one or I’d take both lol.
Lincoln used to come with a switch in the second row for passenger seat. They have taken alot of things out. Lincoln looks better.

@@patmason7276 i was very specific about the 2 things that I found distasteful about the genesis and ill add the fact that I find the styling very gaudy which I know alot of younger Americans will like., hell listen to the crap we call music so that don't surprise me at all. I like the classy quiet essence that the Lincoln gives because it better fits my personality. If your loud and have to scream I've arrived then the genesis may be more to your liking and that's ok. I don't like the 6.2 but Cadillac only uses that in full sized suv's which genesis doesn't offer and they have nothing close to a black wing.
The aviator looks more old school luxury. Very nice but I'd choose the gv80 for reliability as genesis has a rep now for quality and reliability.

I have the GV80 3.5T Prestige in Cardiff Green ext. w/Green/ Smoky Brown interior. I was parked near the exact Aviator when I stopped by my local Costco and absolutely no one was noticing the Aviator. I was getting looks, compliments and people either filming or taking pictures. After leaving the inside of the store and was loading my groceries a lady seemed to have been waiting for "whoever" was driving the GV80 to come out and she drove around to get right next to me to ask for a look inside. She was just saying how beautiful it was and was telling someone on the phone too. I assume her husband. She said she's in love with that car. I'll bet He's going to have to buy her one now!

Purchased an Aviator Reserve yesterday, so excited for delivery. Do yourself a favor and give it a test drive, I drive a loaded S90 Inscription and was in the market for an X5 and GLE...until we test drove this! Those cars rear seats don't even recline! The Scottish leather on the Aviator is sublime, and the space and luxury, tech, power, warranty, practicality package...you get for the same to less compared to those smaller vehicles...there's little compromise I promise. It's as impressive as it looks 👌 what sold us is cargo area with 3rd row down. Better than the Armada we traded in!!! In fact better space with or without 3rd row than the Armada!! Perfect for my chocolate lab and my Golden Retriever to be comfortable on trips, and we did captains chairs on the rear for our 2 teenagers. :)
How’s the aviator holding up?
@AireonT mechanically it was fine up to 44k miles and nearly 3 yrs, but the recalls kept piling up and the backup camera bluescreen glitch wasn't remedied after numerous tries. We took some positive equity and just traded it down for an Atlas Peak Edition. Needed something with better passenger configuration and more rugged seating to withstand traveling with my large dogs. Both rear captains chairs suffered punctures from my chocolate lab, the leather was incredibly soft and thin in spots.
I'll take the Lincoln. I think the outside styling of the Genesis is more attractive but that's it. Lincoln does everything else better for me.
I wish I could share you a picture. They both have great outside styling, but that Aviator, especially if its a Black Label, is something else.
Correction on park assist if you actually use the feature you will notice that it does all of the work for you. Gas, brake, and steering into parallel or perpendicular parking. Simply turn on the park assist, find a spot, walk through the on screen prompt of putting the vehicle in neutral and letting go of the steering wheel and brake. It will then ask you to hold the park button and it will do 100% of the work for you using the 360 sensors to ensure proper parking.
The Genesis can park it self without you being in there

Love those seats in the Aviator !!!, But The GV80 is THE CAR. Althoiugh I have a 2019 Acura MDX and saw the 2022 - which is impressive with many strong enhancements, the lease comes due in JUne 2022.. Acura is great for offering TRade ups , but this is a little early. The GV80 is Winking at me very strongly...... so I may be compelled to Wait :) :)....

I think these are tops in the segment...I'd take either one. But overall, I think the Lincoln takes it. Powertrain (options}, Ride Quality, Sound System and those seats!

I know what you mean BoxterBenz. I bought a 2017 Ridgeline because Car and Driver claimed it was quieter than an S Class. It wasn’t. It became quieter after significant sound deadening that I installed. Now I have a Ram 1500 Limited and it is far more quiet than the Ridgeline. Decibel ratings is just one measure of sound. The quality of the sound is not really measured by a device. Glad you found a quiet vehicle and the Lincoln is still a looker.

I agree. I test drove both these vehicles. I drove the GV80 first and had no major complaint, other than a little engine noise that I heard. But once I sat behind the wheel of the Aviator and accelerated, I was amazed at how much more powerful and quiet the engine and cabin were than the GV80's.
While the guy in the video seems to go into great detail, there’s a lot he glosses over or simply doesn’t mention. I drove both but ended up buying the Aviator. Why? Number one reason was the styling. I don’t like the front end of the Genesis at all. I do like the profile though. But it’s the interior that really turns me off. Too garish for me. Definitely don’t like the screen placement. Too far away from the driver to easily reach and while it’s wide, it’s very short. And speaking of the screen, the driver’s info interface has got to be one of the worst ever. It’s menus are clunky and not intuitive at all. Regarding how it drives, it feels weak most of the time. Only having any power once the engine gets rev’d up. And I felt the ride quality was too harsh.Overall, the vehicle is trying to be something it’s not. While I’m sure there are plenty of buyers out there that love the idea of many commenting that it looks like a Bentley, to me that’s a detractor.
Regarding the Aviator, it just seems to do everything right. Great ride. Great handling. Powerful. And it’s not trying to be something it’s not.
I like the Genesis but I’ll take the Aviator hands down! The Aviator exceeded my expectations!

Thanks for the back to back decibel readings. We consumers of these videos aren't often treated to that comparison. I saw an Aviator in the grocery store lot and liked it but I'm all for a quieter interior. I also prefer the Genesis infotainment landscape layout vs. the larger, squarer one in the Lincoln.
Drive them back to back on the same roads and you’ll find they’re no different on smooth roads but the Genesis is much harsher on rough roads.
The park assist actually work both the gas and steering in the Lincoln Aviator.

I bought a 23 aviator last July I love it!
Looking to get a new SUV for the wife...screwed up and looked at the GV80 Friday. Been running through the other dealerships and models this weekend and I think that we realized that we're just wasting our time looking for something else. Now we decided that we're not going down the European route....been there, done that for years and they make great cars, but I'm over the whole $700 oil changes and crap. For the price there is no competition in my opinion. We're kind of going back and forth on deciding if we want to go for the 3.5T Advanced or Prestige package; there are some nice things in the Prestige, but to be honest everything that I really care about is in the Advance package....I'm just not used to not buying something fully loaded. Biggest problem to be honest is that there are zero manufacturer incentives and I enjoy the "game" of negotiating and the dealer is pretty tough because there just isn't any inventory. I'm going to give it a week or two and see how many of these things move and know how much leverage I've got to get them to eat about half of the cost of the additional package.

@@monkeybearmaxI'll give you the short version....we hit a bunch of dealerships; there was only two GV80's in the Prestige trim and color that we wanted on the entire east coast at the time. Dealerships were marking them up and there is no way in hell that I'd ever do that. We ended up getting a 2022 MDX Advance. Paid $500 over dealer invoice and got KBB for my trade in which was more than I paid for it two years ago....couldn't walk away from that kind of a deal. It's not as fancy as the GV80 is, but it's the wife's car and she loves it. Only thing I hate is the infotainment is a touchpad.
It's just not a good market to buy in right now. We'll probably hold onto this for about 2 years and trade it in when things settle down. There'll be a lot of updated models out there and I think that the GV80 is going to make some manufacturers step up their game.

I owned an Aviator. Choose it over the Genesis. For me , the Aviator is way much more fun to drive.

Both are great cars...But a Black Label GT hybrid Aviator!! Takes the cake 👌...has over 650 in torque. And impressive on the inside.
In my mind, the Lincoln is far ahead. There are even better options on the Lincoln than in the one reviewed here. Genesis is very nice, but there are tons of little details that put the Lincoln way over the top, in my view.
100,000 mile warranty vs 50,000 mile warranty…. And with the GV80 it’s bumper to bumper for 60,000 miles. I just hope the people who choose the Aviator can afford the repairs later on down the road.

What’s impressive is this is their first suv. Imagine the next and the ones to come. The first is very impressive and as time comes they will be blowing a lot of competition out the park for a great price. Amazing work genesis as the gv70 will be my best car for sure.

That sheet metal motif then appears nowhere else... Its like that sheet metal center console, wasn't even meant for this vehicle,.. BUT they grab it out from somewhere else and just install it...And since the center console doesnt fit, JUST FILL THE REST IN WITH THE SHEET METAL....

That Genesis interior is a thing of beauty. Everything looks cohesive, and together. Its so simple, and elegant, and clean. Everything is right where it should be.

Has anyone noticed an issue with the paint on the 2023 Aviator? All of the cars on the lot had these weird vertical dirt streaks going down the sides and back. The salesman said they just needed to be washed, but I’ve just never seen anything like that. I never wash my Explorer (just let the rain do it-lol), and I’ve never seen anything like it. I also noticed it on a few 2023 Explorers on the lot. Could be it a new Ford paint issue??? I love the Aviator, but that gave me pause.

Based on the look and additions in the GV70, I will wait fir the GV80 Sport in 2022. All are beautiful vehicles but I would prefer the GV80 in a Sport Edition.

just bought and took delivery of the aviator. having driven mercedes and porsche for years (still have a couple of them) the lincoln is a very impressive vehicle. the hyundai is also impressive. a lot of bang for your buck. but given that i want to support a north american brand and still have amazing luxury, power and ride i have to say that it's the aviator. easy decision.

I test drove the Genesis last week on a sunny day. I had on my sun glasses and pulled over to turn on the heads up display only to find out it was on, but could not be seen with sun glasses. I mentioned it to the sales person and he just said, yes.

Ford has been making reliable SUVs for generations. I would go Lincoln overall. Genesis put together a great interior, but that exterior looks disjointed bizarre and cheap Oldsmobile chrome appliqué to me. Both are good options and values vs the Germans and both would be lower maintenance and more reliable.
