Never thought I'd say this but the gv80 interior looks so much more pleasing and artwork like. I can imagine the materials would be far less fancy than bentley's but the design makes up for it.
Hyundai simply copied another brand's design and added that stupid pointy Alfa Romeo grill to their cars. They have no unique quality to them, other than being cheaper than a Bentley. It's really cheesy for them to copy an actual luxury car instead of making a truly unique product. All manufactures do copy somethings from other car companies, but Hyundai is the first one to just copy and paste a design. It reminds me of those Chinese rip-off cars.

Recently saw a gv80 in person in a parking lot and as a Jaguar Land Rover tech with an employee lease on a Range Rover. I have to say the styling of the gv80 is very beautiful more so in person.

I test drove one of these GV80s recently. It is insanely nice. I'm really tempted. It's expensive, but wow, is it luxurious, spacious, and doesn't feel slower than my Stinger GT2.

We don't really know what happened (at least I don't) so hard to say how well it protected him relative to another vehicle. I hear his legs are quite damaged, not sure how much a vehicle of a different design would have done better. Extensive leg damage is a sign of crumpling in the passenger compartment below the dash. Thinner materials are there to save weight (fuel mileage) and save cost but probably weaken the protection. I'm guessing a Bentley would have been stronger. Perhaps there is so much interest in this accident that there will be a simulation appear at some point in the future that tries to explain it all.
it has been confirmed that Genesis has always received the highest evaluation in safety tests. it would be another challenge to fully protect the drivers lower body in a similar accident.
The GV80 is what a luxury suv should be. I feel like all manufacturers are trying to put out these sporty suvs but I'd rather just buy a proper sports car than an suv. The GV80 is exactly what I would want out and what most people probably want out of an suv. 3 rows, comfort, luxury, good looks, reliability, I mean what else is there to ask for at that price point.
Whats with this online circlejerk about Genesis being reliable? We dont know that... And the looks are subjective... A lot of us dont like how they look. Personally, I find the spider web wheels are hideous, the bentley rip off looks quite disappointing and the interiors nicely build and finished but souless. What most luxury car buyers want is originality and a sense of cohesion of all parts. Ignoring the typical germans, we can just take a look at Volvo or Jaguar and see how they developed a look that its trully theirs and you can also notice how the interiors and exteriors of their cars follow the same design principles. The XC90 for example loves to play with straight lines and rounded edges, inspired by the metallurgic industry to which Volvo is related. The GV80? Rounded british body combined with square german industrial shapes like the grill or the lights. Then the interior is just a standard french asymetrical layout. Everything makes so little sense. No asian cues whatsoever. Nothing to evoque their culture... And the nonsensical winged logo. Trying to evoque something they are not. Genesis has no relation with aeronautics, like Bentley or Aston Martin...

Mr Lee is a WORLD CLASS car designer. I rented a GV80 for a week and put 1600 miles on it. It is by far the BEST SUV, I have ever rented. The car is superb. 2 things needed to make it unquestionably superior to any German or US car (“Cadillac XT5“ ): 1) Wireless Apple CarPlay, and android auto, 2) Add an additional 10 gallons to the fuel capacity to get the highway range to around 600 miles. If those two things are done, then it’s lights out for the Germans and Americans…
I think Hyundai did a fantastic job on choosing the name "Genesis", feels luxurious and sophisticated, also Hyundai Corp (parent company of Hyundai Motor) is one of the few motor companies that can cover the entire product lines within themselves, not only it has the capability to make almost all auto parts but through their subsidiary (Hyundai Merchant Marine), they have a capability to ship the auto vehicles oversea (vessel shipping) themselves, and not to mention they make their own ship (vessel) from Hyundai Heavy Industries as well. Hyundai is the second largest company in South Korea after Samsung, it used to be the largest but Samsung took the place. People joke around Hyundai from its past quality reputation, yes they did have a bad quality issue but among top 5 largest auto companies (fuel engine based) Volkswagen, Toyota, Renault-Nissan, GM, and Hyundai at 5th largest fuel engine auto company, Hyundai has the shortest history (only around 50 - 60 years), yet it became 5th largest automaker worldwide. Perhaps, people will not joke around Hyundai if they know its legacy and progress that is on-going..

Any of you actually own a Genesis? You would take the Bentley in a heartbeat if you could afford it. I own a G70 3.3t and while it’s a fun car, my previous car a Lexus was better built and felt more solid. The dealership experience sucks at Genesis and yes they promote valet but do you really want some kid driving your nice car? also it’s a HYUNDAI dealer, they suck. I’ve sat in a Bentley, you get what you pay for. All of you saying Genesis is better, hilarious.
The interior is also exceptional. Sure, it's not at the level of the Bentley with every single thing wrapped in either leather or metal, but it's still more practical than the Bentley because it almost has the same interior but for a way cheaper price.
These are the videos we like best! Great review of two vehicles from different classes (price range, luxury, etc) that compare surprisingly well. And it doesn’t feel like you guys are trying to copy other car review shows either, so it feels very original. Keep up the good work
I'm impressed with the designer's work, and producing a luxury car on a tight budget is a blessing. I don't even want to imagine what he would do in the Gv80 on a Bentley budget. Congratulations to the entire Genesis team involved.

Unlike the Japanese, Genesis did not have a budget per se on the designs, which is why so many of their models look amazing! Designers were not restricted, as long as the designs could be molded and produced within their manufacturing limitations. Adjustments were made of course on certain elements with set budgets, such as the choice of interior/exterior materials, technological equipment, powertrain & suspension limitations, compliance with regulations and overall overhead costs to produce the final product.
I never cease to be amazed at the quality of videos published by these guys! I can see why the subscribers number keeps climbing. The outtakes are also very funny. Perfect blend of seriousness and comedy. A big thank you to the Throttle House team for sharing your passion for cars with us!
This is why I love Throttle House. Other reviews talk about how much Genesis cars look like Bentleys, but only Thomas and James have the audacity to actually compare them.
@@HaruHaruman Looks like they copied here and there from other manufacturers. Design and emblem from Bentley, steering wheel from S class, climate control and gear control from range rover etc. I know designer did work at Bentley but it doesnt make Bentley design his.
I have to say, my uncle test drove a Bentayga once and I went with him (back in 2018) but I would still take my GV80 any day of the week. For nearly half the price its an absurdly good deal and does it's job better and more comfortably than the German rivals. Plus reliability is a big plus and the warranty is decent. It's an amazing car and even with how nice the Bentayga is, it's just not worth double the money.
hyundai is expensive as shit for nothing. a bentley is a bentley only a cheap peasent would do this comparation. Hyunday should be maximum 60K full options, just because they put some extra equipment in interior dosen't make it half the car the bentley is.
@@VidBandito312 I hate vag, personally i daily drive a bmw but I have a 1st gen cayenne v8 and altough you can replace the doors out of the touareg, it is miles away as a car. don't know about bentayaga but at least its not a rebadged audi that looks like a normal hyundai ( the urus ). BTW I also do think AUDI are the worst in terms of reliability and are the most expensive to repair.
@@valojj3197 as a mechanic I can confirm audi/vw reliability is abysmal. and having worked at McLaren, and worked on bentaygas... I really wasn't super impressed. They're very nice, don't get me wrong... but they don't have the circumstance that I expect at that price point. It really feels like an extra fancy audi. the rolls truck on the other hand is a rolls all the way through.
also, hyundais tech is very very good right now. arguably better then audis interface and unquestionably better then a 2017 audi interface used on the bentayga they drove. One drawback to the super high end stuff is that they usually don't have the seemless tech that lesser/larger manufacturers have access to because of the quantity of vehicles produced. mercedes is the best right now in my opinion, with hyundai/kia a close second.
I love the on-screen chemistry you two have. Honestly? I think the GENESIS has a better looking interior than the Bentley. The exterior is a little more attractive, too.
As someone who personally owned a 2018 bentley bentayga, and considering getting the GV80, The bentley does have more quality materials; however, the screen is so shit and laggy. With the Genesis, the plastic is only at places that you cant even see, nor touch. So in a daily drive, you wouldnt feel "cheap" riding a gv80. But you do feel it everytime you use the screen on the bentley. Another crucial thing is the reliability. The back door on the right in my bentayga often get stuck and cant open until you go to the dealership, this problem happened to me 6 times now. And its one of the reasons we are considering to sell it now
@@leaninheavy Any Audi's interior is crap, never makes you feel like you're in a luxurious car, it feels too sporty even in the models that are meant to be more luxurious. And all Audi's interiors almost got the same feel on all of their cars from cheap to expensive, being in an A3 doesn't feel to different from being in an RS6 from my experience, the only thing that changes in an Audi is its exterior and engine.

True, the designer Sang Yup Lee was a key designer. But also, Luc Donckerwolke was apparently involved at Genesis. He is also a Bentley/Audi/Lamborghini designer. I think Sang Yup Lee also designed the current Chevy Camaro... Dude is talented

Absolutely loved this! I definetly think the GV80 and the GV70.are the two best looking SUVs inside and out in there respective segment. So elegant and bespoke. I think they look better than the Bentley. I do with that they would have had the 5L NA V8 option for the GV80 (found in the G90) to keep with the classic luxury feel they are going for. Minor gripe though. The real issue in the United States is there horrific dealership experience. I tried buying a G70 and the experience was so bad I walked out with my check in hand. They should have followed Tesla in the direct sales method.

At first I didn't like the huge grill of the GV80 at all, but the further I get into the video, the more it starts to grow on me. It really suits the car a lot.
I was once driving in the Bentayga and I must say the ride was exceptional. It felt like I was laying on clouds, literally closing my eyes and feeling the comfort as a lady was pouring champagne in my glass. Aaaand then then I woke up.

I cant be any more satisfied with our purchase. I got the v6 AWD drivetrain for my wife. Ride quality is gloriously magnificent, does not lose to any other luxury brands in this category, feels as if I am riding through clouds instead of hard asphalt road. Inside cabin is simple and yet refined and elegant - I much prefer this over some other makers' cluttered panels. Lastly, I notice many people doing double takes of this car. I am mightily pleased with the design - those on the design team (interior as well as exterior), along with the chassis and drivetrain team definitely nailed this one. I am also looking to purchase gv70 for myself as I prefer smaller vehicle when it comes out.
Genesis is aiming high. I like that Genesis is aiming at the style of Bentley and Aston Martin while matching the price of Audi-Volkswagon, Lincoln, Acura, BMW, Lexus, Mercedes, Mazda, and Infiniti. All while ignoring Buick and Cadillac.

Excellent comparison. The Genesis is very nice for the money and it was funny to see some similarities with my Kia Niro EV ("gear select" wheel, very hot heated seats, plastic in places you don't touch). I really think that Hyundai/Kia/Genesis have a very good concept with "copy" what works, save money where you can, and deliver a quality experience; more specifically with Kia and Genesis than Hyundai.

Hyundai holds a roughly 34% stake in Kia, while Kia on the other hand owns 45% of Hyundai across all 20 subsidiaries. Don't forget that Kia did have plans to launch a luxury brand of their own called 'Essensis', which is why the Stinger had been launched in Korea wearing an 'E' logo. The plans were put on hold so that Genesis could fully materialize and to allocate more effort behind the development of their EV products.
I recently switched over from cadillac to genesis and couldnt be happier. Fit and finish is rite up there with any mercedes or bmw. The details are crazy for the price. Dont have bentley money so im not sure, one thing i do know is i see way more bentleys driving around than a genesis. As far as this specific comparison, are you really getting your moneys worth for the difference in price with the bentley? Probably not.
I saw a white GV80 with the big factory wheels and I thought it was a Bentayga for a good while before I realized it was a Genesis. Genesis did a good job on this one. It looks like a much higher end car without being a total rip off of one

Most people should change mind when they really spend 85k for the G80. There is a lot of options for that price.

Personally, I find the spider web wheels are hideous, the bentley rip off looks quite disappointing and the interiors nicely build and finished but souless. What most luxury car buyers want is originality and a sense of cohesion of all parts.
Ignoring the typical germans, we can just take a look at Volvo or Jaguar and see how they developed a look that its trully theirs and you can also notice how the interiors and exteriors of their cars follow the same design principles.
The XC90 for example loves to play with straight lines and rounded edges, inspired by the metallurgic industry to which Volvo is related. The GV80? Rounded british body combined with square german industrial shapes like the grill or the lights. Then the interior is just a standard french asymetrical layout. Everything makes so little sense. No asian cues whatsoever. Nothing to evoque their culture...
And the nonsensical winged logo. Trying to evoque something they are not. Genesis has no relation with aeronautics, like Bentley or Aston Martin...
Reliable? Certainly not.
The only thing they lack is a nice dealership experience.

Mr Lee is a WORLD CLASS car designer. I rented a GV80 for a week and put 1600 miles on it. It is by far the BEST SUV, I have ever rented. The car is superb. 2 things needed to make it unquestionably superior to any German or US car (“Cadillac XT5“ ):
1) Wireless Apple CarPlay, and android auto,
2) Add an additional 10 gallons to the fuel capacity to get the highway range to around 600 miles.
If those two things are done, then it’s lights out for the Germans and Americans…

I think Hyundai did a fantastic job on choosing the name "Genesis", feels luxurious and sophisticated, also Hyundai Corp (parent company of Hyundai Motor) is one of the few motor companies that can cover the entire product lines within themselves, not only it has the capability to make almost all auto parts but through their subsidiary (Hyundai Merchant Marine), they have a capability to ship the auto vehicles oversea (vessel shipping) themselves, and not to mention they make their own ship (vessel) from Hyundai Heavy Industries as well.
Hyundai is the second largest company in South Korea after Samsung, it used to be the largest but Samsung took the place. People joke around Hyundai from its past quality reputation, yes they did have a bad quality issue but among top 5 largest auto companies (fuel engine based) Volkswagen, Toyota, Renault-Nissan, GM, and Hyundai at 5th largest fuel engine auto company, Hyundai has the shortest history (only around 50 - 60 years), yet it became 5th largest automaker worldwide. Perhaps, people will not joke around Hyundai if they know its legacy and progress that is on-going..
It's an incredible success story, the trajectory is now to topell Toyota.
Hyundai now well ahead of the 'budget' US and Euro car names!

Any of you actually own a Genesis? You would take the Bentley in a heartbeat if you could afford it. I own a G70 3.3t and while it’s a fun car, my previous car a Lexus was better built and felt more solid. The dealership experience sucks at Genesis and yes they promote valet but do you really want some kid driving your nice car? also it’s a HYUNDAI dealer, they suck.

Unlike the Japanese, Genesis did not have a budget per se on the designs, which is why so many of their models look amazing! Designers were not restricted, as long as the designs could be molded and produced within their manufacturing limitations. Adjustments were made of course on certain elements with set budgets, such as the choice of interior/exterior materials, technological equipment, powertrain & suspension limitations, compliance with regulations and overall overhead costs to produce the final product.
I never cease to be amazed at the quality of videos published by these guys! I can see why the subscribers number keeps climbing. The outtakes are also very funny. Perfect blend of seriousness and comedy. A big thank you to the Throttle House team for sharing your passion for cars with us!
This is why I love Throttle House. Other reviews talk about how much Genesis cars look like Bentleys, but only Thomas and James have the audacity to actually compare them.

They sucked for a long time, but they have grown and brought in designers from big German companies to guide them on the way.

I have to say, my uncle test drove a Bentayga once and I went with him (back in 2018) but I would still take my GV80 any day of the week. For nearly half the price its an absurdly good deal and does it's job better and more comfortably than the German rivals. Plus reliability is a big plus and the warranty is decent. It's an amazing car and even with how nice the Bentayga is, it's just not worth double the money.
hyundai is expensive as shit for nothing. a bentley is a bentley only a cheap peasent would do this comparation. Hyunday should be maximum 60K full options, just because they put some extra equipment in interior dosen't make it half the car the bentley is.

@@VidBandito312 I hate vag, personally i daily drive a bmw but I have a 1st gen cayenne v8 and altough you can replace the doors out of the touareg, it is miles away as a car. don't know about bentayaga but at least its not a rebadged audi that looks like a normal hyundai ( the urus ). BTW I also do think AUDI are the worst in terms of reliability and are the most expensive to repair.
@@valojj3197 as a mechanic I can confirm audi/vw reliability is abysmal. and having worked at McLaren, and worked on bentaygas... I really wasn't super impressed. They're very nice, don't get me wrong... but they don't have the circumstance that I expect at that price point. It really feels like an extra fancy audi. the rolls truck on the other hand is a rolls all the way through.
also, hyundais tech is very very good right now. arguably better then audis interface and unquestionably better then a 2017 audi interface used on the bentayga they drove. One drawback to the super high end stuff is that they usually don't have the seemless tech that lesser/larger manufacturers have access to because of the quantity of vehicles produced.
mercedes is the best right now in my opinion, with hyundai/kia a close second.

I love the on-screen chemistry you two have. Honestly? I think the GENESIS has a better looking interior than the Bentley. The exterior is a little more attractive, too.
As someone who personally owned a 2018 bentley bentayga, and considering getting the GV80,
The bentley does have more quality materials; however, the screen is so shit and laggy. With the Genesis, the plastic is only at places that you cant even see, nor touch. So in a daily drive, you wouldnt feel "cheap" riding a gv80. But you do feel it everytime you use the screen on the bentley. Another crucial thing is the reliability. The back door on the right in my bentayga often get stuck and cant open until you go to the dealership, this problem happened to me 6 times now. And its one of the reasons we are considering to sell it now

@@leaninheavy Any Audi's interior is crap, never makes you feel like you're in a luxurious car, it feels too sporty even in the models that are meant to be more luxurious. And all Audi's interiors almost got the same feel on all of their cars from cheap to expensive, being in an A3 doesn't feel to different from being in an RS6 from my experience, the only thing that changes in an Audi is its exterior and engine.

True, the designer Sang Yup Lee was a key designer. But also, Luc Donckerwolke was apparently involved at Genesis. He is also a Bentley/Audi/Lamborghini designer. I think Sang Yup Lee also designed the current Chevy Camaro... Dude is talented

Absolutely loved this! I definetly think the GV80 and the GV70.are the two best looking SUVs inside and out in there respective segment. So elegant and bespoke. I think they look better than the Bentley. I do with that they would have had the 5L NA V8 option for the GV80 (found in the G90) to keep with the classic luxury feel they are going for. Minor gripe though. The real issue in the United States is there horrific dealership experience. I tried buying a G70 and the experience was so bad I walked out with my check in hand. They should have followed Tesla in the direct sales method.

I cant be any more satisfied with our purchase. I got the v6 AWD drivetrain for my wife. Ride quality is gloriously magnificent, does not lose to any other luxury brands in this category, feels as if I am riding through clouds instead of hard asphalt road. Inside cabin is simple and yet refined and elegant - I much prefer this over some other makers' cluttered panels. Lastly, I notice many people doing double takes of this car. I am mightily pleased with the design - those on the design team (interior as well as exterior), along with the chassis and drivetrain team definitely nailed this one. I am also looking to purchase gv70 for myself as I prefer smaller vehicle when it comes out.

Genesis is aiming high. I like that Genesis is aiming at the style of Bentley and Aston Martin while matching the price of Audi-Volkswagon, Lincoln, Acura, BMW, Lexus, Mercedes, Mazda, and Infiniti. All while ignoring Buick and Cadillac.

Excellent comparison. The Genesis is very nice for the money and it was funny to see some similarities with my Kia Niro EV ("gear select" wheel, very hot heated seats, plastic in places you don't touch). I really think that Hyundai/Kia/Genesis have a very good concept with "copy" what works, save money where you can, and deliver a quality experience; more specifically with Kia and Genesis than Hyundai.

Hyundai holds a roughly 34% stake in Kia, while Kia on the other hand owns 45% of Hyundai across all 20 subsidiaries. Don't forget that Kia did have plans to launch a luxury brand of their own called 'Essensis', which is why the Stinger had been launched in Korea wearing an 'E' logo. The plans were put on hold so that Genesis could fully materialize and to allocate more effort behind the development of their EV products.

I recently switched over from cadillac to genesis and couldnt be happier. Fit and finish is rite up there with any mercedes or bmw. The details are crazy for the price. Dont have bentley money so im not sure, one thing i do know is i see way more bentleys driving around than a genesis. As far as this specific comparison, are you really getting your moneys worth for the difference in price with the bentley? Probably not.
I saw a white GV80 with the big factory wheels and I thought it was a Bentayga for a good while before I realized it was a Genesis. Genesis did a good job on this one. It looks like a much higher end car without being a total rip off of one
