Calling Fawkes a hero for pushing a button while being doused in something he is completely immune to is like calling me a hero every time I take a bite out of chocolate because I have no allergies to it. Its only rational to send Fawkes into the purifier in my stead, I understand them being critical of me if I sent Lyons in since she would die but what is the worst Fawkes gonna experience? Hes immune! Why should I sacrifice my life at the drop of a hat when I can send someone else in to do so who is not gonna be any worse for ware? Sheez Fawkes even kicks the damn thing! Acting like "you think radiation is gonna stop me bitch?" with that gesture... For something to be considered a heroic gesture is when the person in question does an act that puts themselves in extreme peril or even death for someone else's benefit. Fawkes was in no danger what so ever entering that purifier and its basically no different than someone strolling up and flipping a light switch, the risk factor is just not there. Its only considered heroic when you put your own needs and even your very life in the back burner for others. Anybody would do a good deed with no risk to themselves, the true test is when you have to stick your neck out to complete this good deed, thats what makes it heroic. It of course would be considered heroic for the Lone Wanderer or Lyons to do the same thing cause doing so would be the death of them, thats why its considered heroic for either of the two of them to do so cause unlike Fawkes they are sacrificing their very lives for the benefit of others. This is why this ending has always irked me with the game being critical of me for making a very rational decision with the least amount of resistance and sacrifice.
Everyone criticizing the "true hero" line, but it just shows laziness. They just didn't want or were not able to get the narrator back, that's the line if you don't start the purifier.
The game always talk about the Bible but honestly I don’t think it’s just unlogical it’s also sinful! Sacrificing for no reason would definitely fall under pride because you don’t want someone else to get credit even if they are immune to radiation, it really looks like you care more about your self-image or legacy at that point lol
It would have been cooler if you went in there and when Fawkes sees you pass out he rushes to your aid, making both characters heroes as your character was "selfless" and Fawkes saved your life.
An alternative would have been for Bethesda to have more custom ending instead of having a "modular" ending narration. It's basically fill in the blanks. At the end of the day, it doesn't really matter. Also it's been a full year since my original comment :p
+andreastheshadow Do you really want to be chained to a leadership position in the Brotherhood? Why a true hero if this isn't was a sacrifice. This is the best ending, the Lone wanderer, who is a good person, don't die and can still saving other lives, Fawkes ensures that no one will die and Sarah can continue being a good leader of the East Coast Brotherhood
Actually this ending makes perfect sense. Although I didn't follow the fathers sacrifice, I allowed Fawkes (the true hero) to start the purifier. Fawkes saved my life more than once when I asked him to go for the g.e.c.k as well as the fact that he tried to save me when I was captured at raven rock. But by activating the purifier he helped me, Lyons and everyone survive as well as giving people of the capital wasteland fresh water. He is indeed a true hero and letting him venture inside allowed Fawkes to have the biggest moment of glory of his life.
Still though, you had a big role in the story and writing you off as a coward just shows how rushed this story was. Like how you saved your father from a corrupt overseer which allowed you to get project purity to start again. You also single handedly destroyed an enclave base. You can get the geck yourself as well by using rad x so you didn't really need Fawkes... You could have done much more if your lone wanderer was purely good so idk really.
Well the enclave or more president Eden wanted to use the purifier to clean the wasteland of mutants, Ghouls and humans who were infected with radiation through the FEV virus that Eden gave you. So using the virus only pure humans would be able to drink the water thus surviving, so it's like thinning out the herd and stuff. Although people find this sort of evil because it's almost nazi like, with the whole pure race thing going on and the holocaust-esk way their executing it. Also its the way they've been acting throughout the story, they force you to surrender the purifier like generic bad guys instead of being smart and pretending to help them finish then add the virus. Anyway the game puts a massive emphasis on the enclave being a bad guy, your dad got killed from them and they stole his greatest work and turned it into a weapon. Also I'm not sure what happens but if you made some bad choices in the quest trouble at home front you might find Amata talking to a couple of enclave guys. Unless they was evil so this ending is kind of confusing on why they don't congratulate you for thinking to send him so there was less deaths. I mean I understand why congratulating you on going in there to try to save everyone is good but this ending is a bit confusing....
pepper Mill who knows or considering how he's the only friendly super mutant it's giving you the idea of how people reacted towards the news of this? It's hard to say or know. Still it's a bit confusing that they did that.
with decent writing skills, they would just send the guy with total radiation immunity into that chamber and walk away hopping and singing. like no shit, must i die to look like a hero, or could i be smart about it when i have a loyal companion that's completely immune to this world's worse problem.
I wasn't able to play Fallout 3 since I play on a PS4, so I just watched playthroughs and alternative endings. And I really love the story! Especially the best possible ending.
I appreciate Bethesda for even making this option available, but I wish they would at least make a dialogue for it. I also find it disappointing that no one would comment about a friendly Super Mutant.
The logical ending lol. Yeah this is what I chose also. James/Dad died because he had no other alternative at the time. He wasn't going to help them and they were either going to kill him there or kidnap him and torture him until he gave up the code and then kill him. Fawkes is immune to radiation and it makes the most sense to send him in. Think about how quickly the radiation killed James when it was first released, logically anyone going in there would die immediately from the radiation. Fawkes was like "Are you sure ?" I'm like, yeah man. I'm fairly certain that I don't want to go on a suicide mission, get in there and press the numbers.
Yeah, it's bizarre. I didn't have Broken Steel when I got there, but I did have Fawke with me. I tend to do what I can to avoid casualties and since the problem was radiation and I happened to be travelling with someone who was immune to radiation, it seemed the logical choice. Fawke is the only one who won't die if he goes in there (or a ghoul companion) therefore he should activate the machine. Job done, and no casualties. It's not that I wouldn't sacrifice myself, just not for no reason.
I finished the game (ultimately good ending) with Fawkes' sacrifice and i just got the asshole ending. They literally said that Fawkes' hands had such big fingers he accidentally triggered a melt down and blew up Project Purity.....like WTF?!
Dr Li: I'm sorry. I wish there was some other way but there's just no time. It has to be done NOW or the damage will be catastrophic Lone Wanderer: Fawkes, I need you to start the purifier. The code is 2-1-6 Fawkes: Ah...... of course..... My...... immunity to radiation makes........ a far better candidate for surviving.... in there. I...... would say that your destiny....... lies within- BOOM
@k28xl I know that but the east coast brotherhood is know to have a shoot on sight policy for ghouls and super mutants (just talk to the guys at underworld if u don't believe me). So if a knight walked up to a ghoul and asked him to go in the chamber he's likely to ask questions like 1) Why aren't you shooting at me? or 2) No, I believe you this thing is just to turn on a purifier, but between the 2 of us what's it really do? . . . . Its gonna drop me in a pit of deathclaws isn't it?
I think the reason why Bethesda says it was bad was because he had to go in there and be sick. He was immune but he looked unwell when he received the GECK. He may of had to go through a lot of torture.
@Xachz alternative endings. but the main thing is that the ending without broken steel expansion its either you or sarah lyons who has to go in and activate the purify machine and thats the end of the game. and in broken steel well you tell fawkes to do it. and well you watched it you can continue playing
Ghouls are immune to radiation like Super Mutants. Ghouls are actually healed by radiation. Feral Ghouls are the result of brain damage. They then become zombies
@iFilmStuff4U You need to have the Broken Steel DLC for the additional options of sending in: Fawks, RL3, or Charon, which allows you to continue playing the game indefinitely.
@Theonedue You clearly don't have Broken Steel installed. It's an add-on to Fallout 3 that lets you go beyond the purifier activation, with the add-on you can make Fawkes do it.
Sadly it probably will. Bethesda needs to hire Obsidian to work on the story of the game, otherwise the crappy writing of them will attack again. FO4 will be amazing nonetheless.
Oh shit, sorry I forgot that Obsidian did in fact make new Vegas, forgot. Also I was in fact saying that new Vegas DID have better writing then Fallout 3 along with Skyrim.
You know what would've been funny and satisfied Bethesda's apparent need for you not to use Fawkes? If Fawkes took so long talking to you about it that you all ran out of time, rendering him an ineffective choice for the end.
if anyone who has got broken steel, but does not get option to send in fawkes or charon .. you need to start the game from the launcher and select the broken steel data files. then click ok and start game by pressing play. then you shall get option to send them two in :) hope this helps
@ChillxIMxImpatient *** Spoiler *** Fawkes is a follower you can get in Vault 87. As you go through, you'll hear him in a locked room over a small intercom. Help him out, and he helps you get the G.E.C.K. He'll also become a follower later with a nice laser weapon. He is definitely worth having as a follower.
You just magically survive. The inclusion of the option to send in Fawkes instead doesn't change anything, but it does cover up an option they just didn't let you have--or maybe even just forgot to think about--in the original ending.
@spacemonkey7878 (from fallout wiki )By activating the terminal by the door of Fawkes room in Vault 87, and using the 'Identify Specimen' function, you will find that the cell's inhabitant was called 'Specimen D164'. A different terminal in a room close to Fawkes' cell contains data on 5 specimens, stating that D164 was a female. However, Fawkes is not Specimen D164, as the terminal also states that all specimens were terminated.
Homing Missile no you are a hero for making an action, you are just a very stupid idiot hero that ended their life for no logical reason, expecially when not taking the best action which is SEND IN THE ONE THAT IS IMMUNE TO THE RADIATION
@kasira19 Make sure the DLC's you got are active, meaning check the downloads section of Fallout 3 while still connected to Xbox Live. Regardless which outcome you choose with the purifier, watch the epilogue to the end. After that, it'll move to Broken Steel.
@ArcadiumNugget you can change the HUD colour in the options and im using the Microsoft controller its the same as the xbox 360 controller only it has a usb cable and the drivers for it on a disc.
Fawkes, as well as Dogmeat and the robot, were subject to an unpatched glitch that made them nearly unkillable from NPCs. Their health was kicked up on accident by developers. Lesson: Recruit Fawkes and Dogmeat and shoot them with mininukes.
@PutteCantShuffle One identified cause is objects the player is not supposed to be in possession of (ie. the non-degrading Gauss Rifle from inside the Anchorage simulation).
@KamikazeOrange I know right? It's like yeah, you can sacrifice yourself and bring water to the wastes, OR you can have someone who is immune to radiation do it and no one gets hurt!
yep you connect to xbox live and go to add on's in the market place and download it costs about 800 M$ points i think. After that you can continue your game with new missions and increased level cap plus you can have fawkes or other party members go into the reactor for you.
@Theonedue You can ethier buy it on Xbox live, but if you can't get on to Live, you can buy it as a disc to install in most game shops, I suggest buying Game Of The Year edition as it comes with all 4 DLC's
mam can tell me where the filtragem.e pump the mission after zeroing to complete the project purity but can not find the door so a point on the map and I think it can be said underground like localisation.missao and after zeroing

they were like "FINE, you'll get your 'logical' ending, you fucking cowards"
It's the perfect ending. Humans always feared the super mutants, hopefully since Fawkes became a hero, humans might change their minds.
So basically, you have to have a dlc in order to continue on your story of your character...Bethesda, why? ;-;
CAUSE WE WANT ALL THE MONEY
Not complaining, I'm just suprised by it. Doesn't bother me cuz they're my favorite company.
LiilCrazed
Well, you could just NOT do the ending like I did. I just don't have the money to buy DLC on top of the base game.
I know, i saved before i did it so...
OTS ALL ABOUT THE MONEY MONEY MONEY ITS ALL ABOUT THE WORLD YEAH
I dunno, I really dont think its "cowardly" to send in the guy that's immune. Just like a senseless sacrifice otherwise.
it s not a sennseless sacrifice HE IS IMMUNE THOSE RADS CAN T DO SHIT TO HIM
Soldier0Cross Thats not a sacrafice! Thats a concience! lol
I love how when you ask Fawkes to go in there and when he activate the machine, he just casually walks around like a total bad-ass!
You did not commit mindless suicide and for that a true hero arrises to bring the clean water to the wasteland...God I hate that message.
I wasn't able to play Fallout 3 since I play on a PS4, so I just watched playthroughs and alternative endings. And I really love the story! Especially the best possible ending.
2:23 "if you're still there"
Are you blind he's looking at the buttons right in front of your face...
Jumper76Anton Dr. Lee is special >.
I was glad they made this ending, dying with Fawkes standing there was ridiculous
Fawkes is ALIVE FOREVER
I love how he walks around like yeah, I did that.
guys check fawkes's reaction after entering the code he was like "I M A THOUGH GUY THIS SHIT AIN T GONNA KILL ME"
I love how Fawkes kicks it after he starts it
I hope one day they will remake fallout 3 and new Vegas
why? they aren't that dated.
If Fawkes entered the code, then why is the lone wanderer still being revived 2 weeks later..
The feels when the picture of you and dad
They literally said that Fawkes' hands had such big fingers he accidentally triggered a melt down and blew up Project Purity.....like WTF?!
lol so there must be multiple fawkes endings and it is random if you get the good one or the bad one
You're full of shit. If you think you're being funny, you're not.
SgtMustang Are you talking to me?
SgtMustang Im being completely serious, i got the worst ending possible because of fucken Fawkes!
You had to sacrifice yourself
Dr Li: I'm sorry. I wish there was some other way but there's just no time. It has to be done NOW or the damage will be catastrophic
Lone Wanderer: Fawkes, I need you to start the purifier. The code is 2-1-6
Fawkes: Ah...... of course..... My...... immunity to radiation makes........ a far better candidate for surviving.... in there. I...... would say that your destiny....... lies within-
BOOM
I love how Fawkes just kicks the damn thing
PAY TO LIVE
Wow. Even Lyons is disappointed you're not going to do it when you say your radiation resistant friend will do it instead.
I know im loke five years late but i got the dlc but nothing happens i have went back many times to redo the mission and nothing changes
Tyler Peace lol why are you here five years later
+jUsT_AnOtHeR_LuNaTiC i dont know maybe because i still ansalutly love this game and i just got the dlc and me rasberry ice tea ot works now
@k28xl
I know that but the east coast brotherhood is know to have a shoot on sight policy for ghouls and super mutants (just talk to the guys at underworld if u don't believe me).
So if a knight walked up to a ghoul and asked him to go in the chamber he's likely to ask questions like
1) Why aren't you shooting at me?
or
2) No, I believe you this thing is just to turn on a purifier, but between the 2 of us what's it really do? . . . . Its gonna drop me in a pit of deathclaws isn't it?
I think the reason why Bethesda says it was bad was because he had to go in there and be sick. He was immune but he looked unwell when he received the GECK. He may of had to go through a lot of torture.
then they should have said that in the ending rather than lazily reusing a stupid ending that makes no sense
@Xachz alternative endings. but the main thing is that the ending without broken steel expansion its either you or sarah lyons who has to go in and activate the purify machine and thats the end of the game. and in broken steel well you tell fawkes to do it. and well you watched it you can continue playing
What about Charon no one thinks of him
alex harrison charon is a ghoul, they go feral when exposed to more radiation super mutants are just straight up immune
Chaotic Reaper0 ghouls are immune to radiation and that's not how ferals are made
Ghouls are immune to radiation like Super Mutants. Ghouls are actually healed by radiation. Feral Ghouls are the result of brain damage. They then become zombies
@@大大-w3b yep feral are created when exposed to massive amounts of radiation all at once
@iFilmStuff4U
You need to have the Broken Steel DLC for the additional options of sending in:
Fawks, RL3, or Charon, which allows you to continue playing the game indefinitely.
they need to dlc's to survive?
Yes, broken steel
@Theonedue You clearly don't have Broken Steel installed. It's an add-on to Fallout 3 that lets you go beyond the purifier activation, with the add-on you can make Fawkes do it.
I hope that shit writing like this isn't in FO4.
DeathByCake118 IT probably will, this is still Bethesda after all.
Sadly it probably will. Bethesda needs to hire Obsidian to work on the story of the game, otherwise the crappy writing of them will attack again. FO4 will be amazing nonetheless.
+rdchili69 Don't think so, they didn't pull it with new vegas or skyrim.I don't think they favour this choice of ending now.
+the black body radicals Sigh
New Vegas was made by Obsidian, not Bethesda. And NV didn't had crappy writing, it was miles better than FO3's.
Oh shit, sorry I forgot that Obsidian did in fact make new Vegas, forgot. Also I was in fact saying that new Vegas DID have better writing then Fallout 3 along with Skyrim.
Alternative ending? This was the ending I did anyways. I didn't know there were actually more.
THE WHOLE FUCKING POINT IS TO PLAY THE GAME FOREVER
So question , where is faweks after you wake up?
You know what would've been funny and satisfied Bethesda's apparent need for you not to use Fawkes? If Fawkes took so long talking to you about it that you all ran out of time, rendering him an ineffective choice for the end.
if anyone who has got broken steel, but does not get option to send in fawkes or charon .. you need to start the game from the launcher and select the broken steel data files. then click ok and start game by pressing play. then you shall get option to send them two in :) hope this helps
I does not work on xbox 360 I told fawke to do it and he said no
+The One thanks
Deniz Julian T. I know you fixed your to you're.
@ChillxIMxImpatient
*** Spoiler ***
Fawkes is a follower you can get in Vault 87. As you go through, you'll hear him in a locked room over a small intercom. Help him out, and he helps you get the G.E.C.K.
He'll also become a follower later with a nice laser weapon. He is definitely worth having as a follower.
''War, war never changes. :3
We have a MGS fan here.
Carrington k I think you mean Fallout fan.
You just magically survive. The inclusion of the option to send in Fawkes instead doesn't change anything, but it does cover up an option they just didn't let you have--or maybe even just forgot to think about--in the original ending.
Can Charon do the same thing?
Yes
who is charon
+I'm_ Vault_Dweller_2068 ghoulish merc companion
@spacemonkey7878 (from fallout wiki )By activating the terminal by the door of Fawkes room in Vault 87, and using the 'Identify Specimen' function, you will find that the cell's inhabitant was called 'Specimen D164'. A different terminal in a room close to Fawkes' cell contains data on 5 specimens, stating that D164 was a female. However, Fawkes is not Specimen D164, as the terminal also states that all specimens were terminated.
i love how angry people get over a game. the fawkes ending is the same as if sarah goes in.
your not a hero if your dead
Homing Missile no you are a hero for making an action, you are just a very stupid idiot hero that ended their life for no logical reason, expecially when not taking the best action which is SEND IN THE ONE THAT IS IMMUNE TO THE RADIATION
You either die a hero, or see yourself live long enough to become a villain.
It took me every weapon in the game, the entire population of Rivet City, and 45 minutes to kill Him...
And here's yet another reason why New Vegas is superior to Fo3. Suck it Fallout 3 fans, you know it to be true.
To each their own opinion, and at the end of the day, no one cares mate.
PyroSoft true, but keep in mind no one cares for yours either.
combinecommando001 I was talking about opinions in general.
guess what idiot fallout 3 and nv fans are the same people duh
Garrett Clark Relatively the same people.
@kasira19
Make sure the DLC's you got are active, meaning check the downloads section of Fallout 3 while still connected to Xbox Live. Regardless which outcome you choose with the purifier, watch the epilogue to the end. After that, it'll move to Broken Steel.
when I went and activated project purity I felt like a true hero for saving humanity
If with brotherhood of steel you continue the story after the ending, what happens if you go yourself? I don't have that DLC so i have no idea
@KamikazeOrange I know right? It's like yeah, you can sacrifice yourself and bring water to the wastes, OR you can have someone who is immune to radiation do it and no one gets hurt!
strange....when I tried to tell fawks to do it. he said
"no, its your destiny"
You need Broken Steel dlc to convince him
@Theonedue if your on 360 put disc in then wait for an option to press y then wait for install option then it takes like 20-30mins to install
And 1 more thing, when I go to check the Game Data Utility it shows that the DLC doesn't have any version and Fallout 3 has a version
do you think Ron reacted the same way we do when he read the script?
Apparently the narrators public shaming was so hard on you that you went into a coma for 2 weeks
the game thinks it can make me mad by saying im not a hero but i don't give 2 fawkes
yep you connect to xbox live and go to add on's in the market place and download it costs about 800 M$ points i think. After that you can continue your game with new missions and increased level cap plus you can have fawkes or other party members go into the reactor for you.
@Theonedue You can ethier buy it on Xbox live, but if you can't get on to Live, you can buy it as a disc to install in most game shops, I suggest buying Game Of The Year edition as it comes with all 4 DLC's
no that is if you put the modified fev in the purifier not moira's optional objective
@decmac09 Who knows...the narrator was probably talking about you needing to sacrifice yourself for the greater good as your dad did.
You probably saw that in a video. That was a mod that the video creator was showcasing.
mam can tell me where the filtragem.e pump the mission after zeroing to complete the project purity but can not find the door so a point on the map and I think it can be said underground like localisation.missao and after zeroing
Why is there several videos with Fawkes starting the purifier, but not with Sergeant RL-3 or Charon? They need some moar LUUV
(ImyselfaskedforCharon)
