What I'm wondering with these tests is how effective the campaigns will be and what the estimated ROI would be compared to using live VO. While this can save time and money, I wonder if the trade-off when it comes to money coming in would offset the difference. Personally, when I hear AI voices, I immediately turn off the video. It reeks of low budgets and lack of care from the producer. I am not altering my pricing at all because I believe that for now, this is a flash in the pan. It will be a while before this becomes viable for long-term, high quality campaigns.
Agreed. An AI voice (for now) makes a company sound cheap and not really serious about doing business. Further, folks should keep in mind that by facilitating others losing their jobs to AI, that you bring yourself that much closer to being next. Think about it.
Great video but sad though, I have lost myself a few clients over AI, unfortunately for us it’s not going away, it will only get better and evolve as most tech does, so be prepared to adapt and move on, thanks for sharing and inspiring.
I find myself turning off videos in which I detect hear AI narration in (and sometimes, the narration is so bad it's sort of difficult...lol). They annoy me. My first thought is, if they can't be bothered using a real person... but you touched on something that I sometimes forget: is that because this is my business and have a somewhat trained ear? does the average listener really care that much? Too me, it's a big deal, but to my next door neighbour? they might not even notice until it's pointed out. Thanks for sharing your thoughts, and for going the extra to back up the information. To be honest, I am trying to see this as an exciting time that is going to initially have some bumps and wrinkles. New technology or things we don't understand, well, we as humans have a tendency to label it black magic and burn it at the stake first, and then maybe look throught the ashes later. Riot games is landing dragons in stadiums. There are robots and monsters climbing over buildings in Tokyo. Times are a changing... and that's good. I think the faster we embrace the new tech rather than run from it, the faster it work for us and not against. This is a perfect Sung Tzu moment, but I won't mention it... cough. All I'm saying is, ya it's scary but this will be a good thing if you can adapt. I am a professional vo artist, entering my prime (54...) Of course I have misgivings, but I'm choosing to see this as an opportunity that might sting in the beginning, but will eventually be an asset. As long as we as a community keep talking to each other about it, the more we can help each other through it. whoops..... just about fell off my soapbox there. whew.... um... how do I get down?
Yeah, maybe we (VOs) are going to have to buy the same stupid programs and lower our prices. Robots have stolen jobs from a lot of people over the last 50 years or so. There are now trucks that are automated for Over the road trips. We might be screwed. They wont take ALL the work, but they might take some of the work. Time to start perfecting things that NO robot will EVER be able to do, I guess.
An outright buyout of a voice seems horrible, and thankfully there are companies working with this technology doing their best to protect the interests of voice artists at the same time.
At the end of the day AI will never have emotions in there voice because they don't understand it. So yes it will be competitive, and money may talk but people talk as well. If people aren't feeling what's being said to them with no emotions they aren't interested. Some don't care, but a majority do. Because at the end of the day people want to feel like they're being talked to. So yeah I believe AI can only go so far. Just like McDonald replace workers with robots except the kitchen because robots have no taste. It can only go so far. So keep doing what your doing. 😁
Yep. I even checked out those links the 30 sec you can get away with. But that covid ad needs human emotions voice, because it's sound like they don't care about what there talking about. Not good.
The scary thing people need to keep in mind is that technology will improve over time. Though AI won’t have actual emotions, they will find ways to make it sound as if it does. Not meaning to be negative but just keeping a realistic look at what all voice talent will have to face in the future. Just look at things we have today that we would have never imagined just like 20 years ago or something. Technology has so many capabilities.
I don't believe that. No matter how much program you put into an AI it will never fully grasp the human emotions. It's to complex even for us at time. So it will be hard for an AI to understand. Think of it this way someone did a stupid stunt and got hurt. Ones emotions should be is that person alright, call ambulance and so forth. Where you have another emotions who saw it and smiled, laughed and just stood there filming instead of helping. You get what I'm saying. Also as far as technology goes they were testing self driving cars so no one will have to drive in the future. Unfortunately that didn't work out due to the fact that the AI couldnt react quickly to human driver crashing into it by accident. That's when they're realized the AI can't doing anything beyond the programming it was given. There are limits to what it can do.
@@aliciav7620 Maybe or maybe not. The self driving cars are a much more advanced technology than AI. They have made them work but obviously there is potential danger involving peoples lives, not necessarily the same scenario as automated voice over. The truth is that the technology will improve. To what level, we do not know, but the fact that companies will save time and money will make it a very competitive option to consider. It will definitely continue to affect the industry in some way.
Not doing VO today. Dislike and don't watch/listen to obvious AI narrations in general. A note though, being from the US, I actually did not notice the AI side as much. The samples were accented anyway from my perspective. The AI speech was lost in the accent. Changing some of the pronunciations of the words (schedule) would probably make it appear more normal to me. Just a perspective since not many companies would use a non-US voice in the US although it does happen .. not sure of the other direction. Thanks for the advice and work you do on the channel.

Thank you, Neil! A very insightful video, on a fairly cutting-edge issue.
My husband offered this perspective: "I wouldn't worry too much about AI voice. Look how the sex robots are going so far."

I imagine there will be a small crunch and then companies coming back

No problem at all
