      I'm curious how the volume control works then. As we know, you can adjust the sensitivity of each Transmitter from the Receiver menu. But what happens when you don't use the Receiver and just record as you did?
      Also, side question, I'm assuming the track that you download from the Transmitter memory is mono, right? You can't benefit from the safety feature when using just the Transmitter.

      Absolutely, I need a secondary mic to record screen captured tutorials and also lots of notes. This device could be a single solution for both. The fact that it does not need proprietary software is huge. Please tell me if the transmitter can be used as a USB microphone in addition to acting like an SD card, cause if it can, it can be a one stop solution for most audio.

    Looks super versatile and I love it, definitely i would consider with what i'm working on right now. however biggest issue i hear out of the gate is the pre-amps. for professional sound its not acceptable, the compression is super high and sounds really thin. functionality: Thumbs up. Sound Quality: cheap. still going to stick with my clunky Sennheiser lavs. plus most filmmakers are not professional sound engineers. it would be great if Rode/DJI could pack a good pre-amp into it or a better mic. or both. still exciting to see where we are heading with sound tech though, im sure they will solve this soon enough.

    Love the video. Agree with your reasoning overall. One thing I'd like to see from DJI to make this product even better would be a handheld attachment like the Rode Interview mic kit for the GO II. Its a minor thing, but I really love how the GO II is so easy to swap between handheld and lavalier. For company streams of live events, the longer battery life on the Go II and the option to do a quick swap to a handheld at a moments notice is a huge value for me. Overall, I love the direction DJI is doing here and I am exciting for them to disrupt the production gear space.

    • @EmdeeTiamiyu
      @EmdeeTiamiyu 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      This right here is my only worry. For vox-pops eg, people feel more willing when they see an actual looooong interview mic 🎤 pointing at them. Traditional interview style hits the right nerves. On a second thought, the primary goal is clean audio, isn't it? The transmitters will still do a great job when clipped on the interviewee. Probably that's the part of the DISRUPTION we're not ready for..

    Avoiding Rodes proprietary software to extract the audio alone is a HUGE win for this system!
    I personally prefer tactile buttons and/or dials with some rotary stops on it, but maybe the touch screen will work out too. As someone who prefers to wear gloves as much as possible, touch really throws me off my game, but, maybe it’s worth it if all else is as good as it seems~
    Thanks for the great vid!

    • @JevenDovey
      @JevenDovey  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yup for gloves the buttons of the rode are needed. It really depends on how you film. However the features of the DJI are overall better. I’ll keep my rodes for when it doesn’t make sense to use the touch screen

      I've also heard about interference problems with the Rode Go 2. I'm currently having big problems with my Rode Go 1 (and that's why I'm interested on all kinds of videos and data on both so that I can upgrade).
      But it seams both have interference problems and half of those are actually because of the poor camera shielding. So maybe other cameras give other results.
      You can actually listen carefully after 7:50 in this video, when there is silence. There is a bit of interference. You can mitigate it by mounting the Receiver further away from the input jack of the camera (if you have a cage).

    Can anyone please tell me if the transmitter can be used as a standalone USB microphone with a PC or not ? If that is the case this could be huge, it could alleviate the need for a boom arm mounted mic. I mean it could not replace it in quality but for most of my screen-recording work it could be really convenient.

      As a pro, you should know that the Rode system was ACTUALLY designed by audio professionals, not a Chinese company that is focused on drones.
      The Rode system actually records in it’s own native RAW audio format, and allows you to export 32Bit float files, which have infinite digital gain - fully eliminating the possibility of clipping.
      Pair it with the Countryman B6 like I did, and your audio quality will vastly outperform anything that comes from DJI.

    I'm curious to see if it would be possible to use this mic as a boom mic for over the head recording for interviews. Also, I'm curious to see how much hissing sound this makes. Usually small mics have a high amount of hissing sound and don't do very well on low end. You can correct some of these issues in post but not entirely. Regardless, it looks like a great product from a company that has a reputation for delivering great products.

      Just curious but why would you want to push this mic into that position? Won't it be a bit ridiculous of a setup? Sandbags on the stands and all that

    • @marknosrati9128
      @marknosrati9128 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Danefrak I want to do this setup so the mic is not in the shot. I actually bought this mic. It's pretty awesome but the sound quality isn't that great. It's great for run-and-gun type of shooting. Not so much for professional-grade production. I also tried connecting it to a Rode mic to get a better sound but the mic picked up the magnetic field of the battery in the rode mic and there's this buzzing sound. So again it's a great mic for run-and-gun but that's about it. Nevertheless, I love it and it's one of my favorite gadgets.

    90% of the features you mentioned are also in Rode Go2 for half of the price. I actually prefer the smaller size of Rode

    Sir, I love this video. I can’t wait to get one! Not in stores now. Best Buy doesn’t have it. I have returned my Rode. No negative. Never opened it after watching this video! Pretty powerful video Sir! Thanks.

    The number one reason that Jeven didn’t talk about is you can set the gain of the DJI system so that it doesn’t clip. My RODE Wireless Go II will clip no matter how I set the gain or pad. It’s the biggest issue with that system and a real shame for an otherwise great system.

    • @cerspence
      @cerspence 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yes you can't change the Gain for the actual receiver itself- just the gain for what the camera gets from the receiver (which clips so easily even at -30dbs). Returning it.

    The latest firmware update for Wireless GO II allows for batch export. You can also select a checkbox for each audio clip if you know which ones you want to export. Of course, you can playback the clips in Rode Central to be sure of what clips you want to export. As well as setting in and out pints for each clip.

    • @JevenDovey
      @JevenDovey  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That wasn’t available when this video was made. Still have to use rode central though. The DJI just shows up as an external drive when you plug it in. Easier to use

    I ended up just buying the Rode Wireless Go II since the DJI kit was still months out when I was looking to purchase the wireless set. I found a nice charging case on Amazon that lets me charge all 3 from a backup battery which alleviated one of my biggest concerns with the Rode Wireless Go II.
    As of writing this comment most sites are showing the DJI set still back ordered until March 2022.

    Hi ghly recommend the DJI, it works and handles all kinds of movement hot sun, sweat and a rain storm or two , the system continued to work without missing a beat, and the back up recordings are so awesome ! while shooting having the option to quickly copy and back up the files is a godsend

    I just bought an used Rode wireless go 2 for a good price, almost half the original price. But there is one problem I don’t like about it, connecting it to iPhone requires a lot of unnecessary cables and adapters… when I saw in your video that you can connect the DJI MIC directly to the iPhone through the lightning port I said to myself “ i want one now” 😅.
    For now, i will use the wireless go and keep looking for deals on the DJI MIC.

    That's a great review. I've struggled with lav mics through the years. Often the sound I record feels unnatural, curiously harsh, lacking natural background noise. Maybe I'm imagining it, but I think I hear that harsh sound in your recording too. Free standing tripod mics are extra effort, and I need to remember to project my voice to the sweet spot of a tripod mic, but in the end the sound is usually more natural. I guess that's why sound crews go through extra effort to use booms and hidden room mics. On the other hand, lav mics are a necessary evil, often irreplaceable.

    Well done Jeven. My only worry is how to swap the clip on to a handheld mic like the Rode Wireless Go II can. For vox-pops eg, people feel more willing when they see an actual looooong interview mic 🎤 pointing at them. Traditional interview style hits the right nerves. On a second thought, the primary goal is clean audio, isn't it? The transmitters will still do a great job when clipped on the interviewee. Probably that's the part of the DISRUPTION we're not ready for..?

    Mate this was soooo useful. I was about to get a Rode because I am going to be doing regular TH-cam shows and some Tik Tok, but using my smart phone as the camera and just needed an easy to use, quality mic, and your video completely makes the case for this mic set up instead. I need easy to use and quality with options (i would like to be adventurous in future), and would occasionally want to use a lavalier or hide the mic.
    Am signing up for the course, I find your presentaion style easy, clear and very informative, and expert and considered too.
    I watch a lot of TH-cam explainers on things and just wanted to say thank you and well done for this video

    This was such a great video to find. I’m an audio engineer for predominantly music and I do a lot of classical music recording. I’ve been looking for a solid wireless system to use for dialogue during a more contemporary piece or to have for whenever the conductor or performer speaks in between pieces instead of having to set up a microphone on a stand that I know they won’t use, I was pretty sold on the Rode Wireless Go but for an extra like $30 the DJI is an absolute no brainer. Thank you so much for the great video!
