The screw in lavalier with R Pro, is important if you have people moving and using the external mic. The total time for either, is not really important, as who would record for over ten hours in one shift? The Rode does have more accessories than the DJI, and maybe that reflects the price? Definitely, the Rode has more bass to it, low end, off the cuff, good sound quality but the sound quality and features on the M2 are still good. Tough call on choice, as I am no fanboy of anything, but am a fanboy of what I need and can use, and price is always a consideration. 🤔Not all of us have an expense account or write off, and getting the same basic “thing” with an added decent gimbal, is always noteworthy.

I meant which exactly lav mic do you use? It seems like both rode and dji have 3 volts…which makes it difficult or impossible to use pro lav mics (some do operate in a voltage range which includes 3v - but then it’s suboptimal sound quality I guess?). I was wondering if you have an example of high quality lav mic that works with rode at its max performance…(and yes screw connector absence in dji is a downside but not as much as the quality lav mic support - which is why I wonder how come apart from the connector ride is better than dji if both operate at 3v)
My take is , hopefully the audio sync issues can be fixed and patched. The storage is not a big deal as 12 hours or so is plenty. And last I dont know if this has been mentioned anywhere but. Nice review! I own several wireless systems, the original Rode Video Wireless, the Deity Connect (both 2.4Ghz systems) and a Sennheiser G3 UHF system. I've been thinking about picking up one of these systems and have been evaluating them. A friend owns the Mic 2 and let me use it for a few days, it's pretty slick for $349.00. The only thing I wouldn't buy it for is the lack of locking 3.5mm inputs. Talent will and does accidentally unplug lavaliere mics when they are moving around, reaching, stretching. I own three OST 801s that I had wired for Sennheiser locking and they don't stay in the Mix 2 transmitters very well. So that rules out the DJI, which is a shame because I like the size, the receiver touch screen, sound quality was decent and the case setup is superior to the Røde. Other than that one deal breaker, the Mic 2 is impressive. Plus DJI has the hot shoe accessory that I could use to put the Mic 2 output onto Ch 3 and 4 of my FX6 with no cables via the hot shoe. That's tempting. But I can't, in good consicience, buy a mic where the lavaliere could become unplugged so easily. So it's going to be the Røde Wireless Pro for me. My FX6 has TC in also so I can use one of my Tentacle Sync Es, jam sync it with the Røde transmitter, run that into the TC in and still use the Røde output to feed the XLRs on the FX6 handle. If the transmitters drop out, I will have synced 32-bit float files as backup. For my use case, Røde also wins.
I appreciate your review as I am trying to decide between the Dji mic 2 and the Rode Wireless Pro. I was inclined to go with Dji and in fact I had ordered the Dji but cancelled the order after reading non favorable reviews mostly associated with audio delay issues and out of sync mics. The Dji looks to be easier to setup and change options than the Rode including the fact that it is much easier to setup onboard recording than on Rode but i am looking for a semi-professional to a professional experience. I am not sure what to do. Camera is a Fujifilm X-T5. Thank you.
Nope. DJI Mic2 neither Rode Wireless Pro can synchronise timecode with Atomos Ninja V. I mean timecode embedded into video file. Or one may try to use this timecode over audio track but IMHO timecode over audio track as Rode Wireless Pro has it is pretty much useless. DJI Mic2 does not support timecode in any form at all. To synchronize timecode with Atomos Ninja V one will need Atomos Connect back for the Ninja plus Atomos Ultrasonic blue plus compatible audio recorder like Zoom F3 equipped with optional bluetooth module. Also Zoom F2-BT is compatible with this timecode setup and Zoom F6 plus BT module and Zoom F8 N Pro. BUT then you have your timecode synced but no wireless sound recording in camera. BUT with this timecode solution one can synhronise two, three or more compatible cameras and also two three or more audio recorders.
I'm in doubt between the DJI MIC 2 and the RODE WIRELESS GO II. In terms of functionality, the DJI MIC 2 is definitely better. But in terms of audio quality, which do you consider better between the two?
At first sight a nice presentation,but…..you play a lot during the montage with the volume slider in order to emphasize the pro’s & cons in order to create an advantage for Rode.actually a sort of hidden promotiontechnique and therefore a misty view on your reliability…..
I have had this! Thought it was the wifi on my camera interfering with it. Super annoying. Had to get a super long 3.5mm cable to move it further away from my camera.
Yes, made in Australia buy a professional audio company known for world-class professional audio recording and mixing products. RODE, quality pro products.
"I also think that when the mic systems are clipped on my shirt like this, the Rode sounds just a teensy bit better to me." 12:05 - The Rode sounds A LOT better.
Great review! My Rode Videomic Go has cost me HOURS of footage wasted... It picks up an unbearable clicking interference sound when my Camera (Canon EOS m50) is connected to Wifi (which I need for remote shooting). I tried everything possible to work around it with no luck, aside from disabling Wifi which is massively inconvenient for my set up. Just grabbed my DJI 2 kit and the experience is so much better. I assume the Rode Wireless Pro is WAY better than my cheap Rode Videomic Go, but the experience has left such a bitter taste in my mouth that I'm loyal to DJI as of now.
Great video ! Thank you very much ! I know that thd DJI 2 is compatible with Sony camera direct connection by adaptor. Please let me know if you know any system.compatible with Panasonic Lumux s5iix. Many thanks !
How often do you wish you had more controls on the RODE compared to the DJI during a shoot? Are some of the settings in the app super important on the field?
And again, keeping out Hollyland.. Those big brands seem to spend a lot of money to keep them out of business.. The Max, but also the M2 (for other reasons) are just on par with those and for a much lower price tag
Bro. This video was comparing the DJI and the Rode. Hollyland makes solid gear, I would definitely recommend them but I didn’t show them in this video for the reason that the DJI was new and so was the Rode. Also you are skimming over the 32 bit float that is offered in these microphones and is not available in any hollyland hybrid mic system. In my opinion the rode is on a completely different level from hollyland. DJI might be a little closer.
The DJI really should supply a USB-C to USB-C not the USB-C to USB-A cable ?? wonder why they have done that. Also no one ever says if you can connect the Rx via USB-C to USB-C on a Smartphone? also there is no data pass through on the DJI case whereas the Rode charge case has data pass through that is a very useful feature.
@@BenGleasonMedia can you use the DJI usb-c to usb-c with a smartphone ? not using the adaptor, using the DJI in the shoe mount then a usb-c to usb-c cable to smartphone?
@@BenGleasonMedia Well, if you use the Mic2 transmitters with the Pocket3 you can trigger internal recording with the Rec button. Obviously the Mic2 integration is better for the DJI cameras. Also the Pocket3 can jam sync to time code and hopefully the sync is transmitted to the Mics (I have not tried yet).
There is no way to do this with a mini jack cable. You can set up the Røde so a short press on the on/off button triggers internal recordings in the mics. Also stop the recording with another push. Symbols on the LCD tells whats going on.
Question Once 32bit enabled on DJI do I still Need to keep the receiver on or no? Since it’s internal recording I’m wondering as I’ve already experienced clipped audio by not enabling 32bit plz help 🙏🏽
Nope! The transmitter will record internally without the receiver. But you will need to make sure 32bit is on before you do that, and that is in the receiver settings
Hi, recently I bought a DJI Mic 2 and I'm very disappointed because the only way to make the standalone recordings usable is to set the TX gain to +12dB, but they still have to be boosted a lot in post. I turned off the Low pass filter, I tried 32 and 24 bits, I tried everything but the records are still very quiet when I put the TX on my chest. Is it normal ? Does somoene managed to records something on a dji mic 2 without having to drastically boost in post ?
I love my Rode Wireless Pro system. I keep it in my crossover bag with my Insta 360 Flow and a USB C to USB C cable, and I'm good to go for all-day filming on my iPhone 15 Pro. I really love the clip to easily use the receiver on various hotshoe mounts.
If you used the same lavs on both mics with internal recording, do you think the audio would be almost the same? I think the DJI2 is much easier to operate in the field, but the Rode internal mic sounds way better and it has the screw mount for the lav. If lavs sounds the same on internal recording, however, I would probably go with DJI2. Thanks for any input!
Hi Ben, great review. Totally agree that rode sounds much better and the dji is plastic sounding. Just want to check if you turn off the low cut filter on the dji ? It’s said to improve the dji sound. I’m leaning more towards the rode for sound quality ! Tqvm
Just subbed. I’m using a single DJI Mic2 transmitter with a receiver connected to my Sony ZV-1. I have the transmitter with gain set to 0, it’s +9 on the receiver and +1 on the Sony ZV-1. Is that right? I did a test using my Audio-technica AT875R shotgun mic going through a GoXLR to Slobs and also on the DJI Mic2 at the same time. I recorded on the DJI Mic2 with the Lav mic and without it and also both again with noise cancelation and without it. My room is slightly reverb but when I listen to the comparisons, the audio from the DJI Mic2 sounds weak and like I’m speaking to someone through a window and the shotgun mic audio sounds full and powerful. Could you point me to some tutorials for how you adjust the wireless audio in post please?
That's awesome, those audio levels should be just fine. You just want to make sure that you aren't clipping your recording. I am actually working on an audio in post tutorial that I should have posted next week.
Remember, Rode is an audio company and that should be all you really need to know. Rode basically invented this category of compact wireless audio systems.
Go for RODE if you’re looking for quality. But if you have a DJI action cam (Action 4) or Pocket 3, the Mic 2 is incredibly convenient when you can record audio wirelessly with only a transceiver to the cam.
RODE sounds way better quality wise. DJI has all the features for someone who do not want the hassle, it's straight to the point. I feel if your going professional work or you have clients go with RODE, if your a content creator who just working on yourself and need simple quick workflow DJI
Been using the Rode Go and Rode Go2 and Rode just has a better quality of sound. Especially paired with a good lav mic. Which to me.. outweighs it quirks and negatives.
Who needs timecode in this time? Every editing program nowadays has a sync function which works 100%. And aesthetically the rode is a bric on your shirt. Terrible. And this Rode program which you call a Pro is for me a con. Who needs these Audio-Functions? Nobody. You do it all in your DAW or your editing Programm. And the con is- you have to do all the important changes in this and can't do it on the fly during filming. And is there anybody out there who "markers" the audio while filming? I don't think so.
Good job. Thanks for the review. Note, there is one thing that you did not include and it is HUGE to me - 'customer support'. RODE is VASTLY superior in this ...in every way.
very good.. I am still trying to decide Rode or DJI.. The Rode does seem more useable though and being able to administer whilst everything is in the charge case is very helpful also being able to manage everything on the app is a big deal as if you have ever had to manage settings on the device that is a big risk when you are actually on location, you want it all set via the app. I like the look of the DJI but the Rode does seem more useable and I think sounds better.
I really think you will have a great piece of gear either way that you go! For what I do, I love the rode and I make the size work to the best of my ability. Those lav mics are a life saver on set if you're concerned about size. But the DJI is very travel friendly and easy to slap on a shirt without much problem.
@@BenGleasonMedia these days I have found people like holding the Rode so I put on a furry denoting the top and that seems to work fine. I wish the DJI charge case connected via USB-C to the laptop that would be so helpful like with the Rode.
If you is a user of the DJI Pocket 3 or Action4 you probably want the DJI Mic2. Or both. As the DJI Mic2 is perfectly integrated into the Pocket3 and also Action4.
As someone who has worked in broadcasting for 20+ years, I can see a benefit in both. In the production department, I would go with the Rode Wireless Pro. Production has the time and motivation to fix audio and video in post. However, the news department would benefit from the automatic noise reduction in the field. This department has no time for frills. They need to get the story out fast. No time to mess with audio and video. The people are now known as MMJs (Multimedia Journalists). They no longer have dedicated camera people to do the video and audio for the journalist. Nowadays the usually female journalist has to do it all. They have to source the story, get the interview, get the B-Roll, write the story, edit the story, detail the graphics and other data for the story and finally upload the story to our video servers. The thing I would like to see for both systems is a threaded output for plugging in a 3.5 MM to XLR male cable for a professional camera. I would also like to see some type of mount design for mountng the receiver to the professional camera. The hotshoe is already being used by a camera light. Anyway, thats my 2 cents. Great review video by the way.
Much better audio from the Rode…. I don’t mind the slightly larger size and if I use a lav mic, you never see it….. thanks for your review and confirmation that Rode is better…. Ron
Just because I perfer the extra features of the Rode doesn’t mean I’m “biased” I genuinely love the portability of the DJI and think Rode is lacking that. I still plan to use the DJI kit in certain situations. I just wont be using it nearly as much as the Rode.
Being biased implies an unfair prejudice against someone or something. Expressing one's honest preference and opinion does not mean the review is biased whatsoever. The kids these days, I'm never shocked at what I see on the internet. Great review and it was just what I was looking for. 👏👏
Dji is sending deir products to worldwide content creators free 4 saying good things abt dem...rode is not lyk dat.dey had deir own reputation in d market...as a professional i knw hw mch improved sysstem is d rode pro...dji mic2 is a toy...
😁@@GrenlandUnderVann Same here, but I only have one DJI Mic2 for now, that came with the DJI Pocket 3. I am both Team Rode (Wireless Pro, Rode NT1 Gen5, Rode VideoMic Go II) and Team DJI (Drones, Osmo Cams)
I'm team Rode but there are view things they could've done better 1. The Cases Why are there 2 cases in this particular design? A practical rectangular case for the receiver and the transmitter + a travel bag for the case and the accessories . Just like DJI does. 2. The Receiver I miss a built-in microphone and the possibility to record internally on the receiver. A connection for the lavalier mics would also have been very nice. Then you could use it as a 3rd "transmitter" 3. Missing Accessories a) A Cold Shoe Mount Adapter - i know you can use the clip, but it doesn't fit well on Tilta Cages, for example b) so many cables, but no TRRS Cable included 4. Missing functionality Noise cancellation
@@mfunk40310 agree on some points but after 10+ reviews, even pro DJI reviews say they are not fans of the noise canceling sound quality. I totally agree…They even say it sounds better without. I’m sure Rode would do it better though.

Would be good to know if high pass filter was off in DJI. It is ON by default in DJI and OFF by default in Rode.
@jacek5384 it's been confirmed. The low pass filter was turned off on the mic 2.
Was the Low-pass filter disabled on the DJI Mic2 when you tested?
Yes it was 👍
@@BenGleasonMedia yeah see that’s the problem. Should be off by default. Unless you’re out in the wind.
A question bro , can i use the rode with my osmo mobile 6 ??
great video bro! keep em comin! 🤘🏻
What about the Lav review?!? I will be using the lavs a LOT.... :(
How often do you wish you had more controls on the RODE compared to the DJI during a shoot?
Are some of the settings in the app super important on the field?
Not at all tbh, because I use the 32-bit so much I tend to just set it how I want and not worry about it again.
Rode is cheaper considering these two extra mics. Chosing dji mic 2 you have to buy these 2 lavalier mics separately for about extra 100 dollars.
Helpful, thank you! :)
Hi, how you use the rode pro with phone?
great comparison, love the dji
Rode sound quality is lightyears ahead! - so Mics and recording is all about sound - so - Rode for me - thanks
If you’re referencing the Rode with the usb-c to usb-c smartphone! You can! I’ve done it with the iPhone 15 and my iPad!
@@BenGleasonMedia can you use the DJI usb-c to usb-c with a smartphone ? not using the adaptor, using the DJI in the shoe mount then a usb-c to usb-c cable to smartphone?
I'm new to this but I'm good off the Rode. I LOVE my DJI Mic 2!!! W DJI Mic 2 💙💙💙💙💙
Can one more transmitter mic of DJI 2 be connected with receiver to record 03 mics at one time kindly do help bro ??
How did you mix sound thank you.
Gonna post a video about it here soon I promise! 🙏
would love to know how you mix your audio for talking head videos
Working on a video about this right now! 🙌
great! looking forward to it 💯
THE QUALITY SOUND OF THE RODE, is the real matter for chosing a mic, and that's rode ( my personal opinion)
The Rode really does sound so much better
@@BenGleasonMedia agreed
👍 thanks for the great comparison
awesome breakdown
🕺
Thank you! Very good and useful review
Wooooooooww the Rode sound clean af.
Thank you so much man :) God bless you
Looking to buy good mic for iPhone 15pro max for outdoor vlogging purpose.
Price 600 to 1500 dhirams
Awesome video!
Do either trigger 32bit with camera record button?
Curious about this too.
I just tested both of them out and unfortunately this is not an option with either system 😕
No you have to manually activate it either on the receiver or the transmitter itself.
Question
Once 32bit enabled on DJI do I still
Need to keep the receiver on or no? Since it’s internal recording I’m wondering as I’ve already experienced clipped audio by not enabling 32bit plz help 🙏🏽
Nope! The transmitter will record internally without the receiver. But you will need to make sure 32bit is on before you do that, and that is in the receiver settings
so i could just buy the dji transmitter without the receiver and enable the 32 bit on my friends dji?
@@BenGleasonMedia
The rode sounds full and more professional. I own both of them and I like the Rode more when it comes to audio quality!
It's not normal! Check other videos of DJI Mic 2, and return for exchange
Rode sounds so much fuller
Cool. I need to learn post audio stuff. @@BenGleasonMedia
Remember, Rode is an audio company and that should be all you really need to know. Rode basically invented this category of compact wireless audio systems.
I got the mic 2 and had instant regret after hearing the rode. So I got the rode too and im sending back the mic2.
What u shoot for inside or outside
Inside
“A random song i found on the internet”
😂
Go for RODE if you’re looking for quality. But if you have a DJI action cam (Action 4) or Pocket 3, the Mic 2 is incredibly convenient when you can record audio wirelessly with only a transceiver to the cam.
DJI in thin, undeniable. Both great systems tho
40 hour shoot.... Sounds extremely familiar....many times. lol
Lol
Rode all the way man
DJI Mic 2 has low pass filter On by default
Which i turned off before I began testing
RODE sounds way better quality wise. DJI has all the features for someone who do not want the hassle, it's straight to the point. I feel if your going professional work or you have clients go with RODE, if your a content creator who just working on yourself and need simple quick workflow DJI
Just picked up the wireless pro for $360 on amazon
+ tax
Been using the Rode Go and Rode Go2 and Rode just has a better quality of sound. Especially paired with a good lav mic. Which to me.. outweighs it quirks and negatives.
Hollyland. They sound much much better
Not 32bit float though…
Sound from the rode a true sound company is hands down better..DJI looks like a 90s pager.. Hollow sound.
😂😂 the 90’s pager is SPOT ON
Who needs timecode in this time? Every editing program nowadays has a sync function which works 100%. And aesthetically the rode is a bric on your shirt. Terrible. And this Rode program which you call a Pro is for me a con. Who needs these Audio-Functions? Nobody. You do it all in your DAW or your editing Programm. And the con is- you have to do all the important changes in this and can't do it on the fly during filming. And is there anybody out there who "markers" the audio while filming? I don't think so.
I have tested both and Rode is the strictly the best. Crisp and clear❤
Good job. Thanks for the review. Note, there is one thing that you did not include and it is HUGE to me - 'customer support'. RODE is VASTLY superior in this ...in every way.
That’s a great point! 🙌
DJI support was amaazing and has a SUPPORT PORTAL that keeps track of the process. I loved #DJI support. th-cam.com/users/shortsgtAMx2kntd8
Why didn't you switch between mics every 30 sec -1 min instead of like 5 minutes ? It's more noticeable that away 🤦♂
Womp womp
I wish the Rode had a better case
Totally with you! I ended up using a CRDBAG small case to hold all the accessories and honestly I’m loving it so far! 👍
rode sounds cleaner
Dji is the way to go
I got the DJI Mic 🎤 2. No Ragerts 😂
No ragerts at all! 🙌
Or both. As the DJI Mic2 is perfectly integrated into the Pocket3 and also Action4.
both tested...rode is much better...
One of if not the best video comparisons review. Rode hands down... After tons of reseach I went with the Rode Wirelss Pro, so happy I did.
Awesome man!! Love to hear it 🙏
As someone who has worked in broadcasting for 20+ years, I can see a benefit in both.
The Rode mic sounds amazing. Genuinely sounds as good as the Shure mic all the podcasters use, without hearing a direct comparison
🔥🔥🔥
Much better audio from the Rode…. I don’t mind the slightly larger size and if I use a lav mic, you never see it….. thanks for your review and confirmation that Rode is better…. Ron
The fact you get their Pro lavalier with the Rode is a major win
you are biased towards rode both have their own features and disadvantages, your review shows that because you were stick with rode since long
Just because I perfer the extra features of the Rode doesn’t mean I’m “biased” I genuinely love the portability of the DJI and think Rode is lacking that. I still plan to use the DJI kit in certain situations. I just wont be using it nearly as much as the Rode.
Rode sounds better, so yeah, there’s a bias.
Being biased implies an unfair prejudice against someone or something. Expressing one's honest preference and opinion does not mean the review is biased whatsoever. The kids these days, I'm never shocked at what I see on the internet. Great review and it was just what I was looking for. 👏👏
Rode built in mic and threaded jack is a big W. Lots of wins for the DJI, but those are major wins for the Rode.
Dji is sending deir products to worldwide content creators free 4 saying good things abt dem...rode is not lyk dat.dey had deir own reputation in d market...as a professional i knw hw mch improved sysstem is d rode pro...dji mic2 is a toy...
Are you team DJI? or team Rode? 👀
Watch my full review of the DJI MIC 2 here - th-cam.com/video/NA1eergMlDA/w-d-xo.html
I have them ALL.
I'm team Rode but there are view things they could've done better
1. The Cases
Why are there 2 cases in this particular design? A practical rectangular case for the receiver and the transmitter + a travel bag for the case and the accessories . Just like DJI does.
2. The Receiver
I miss a built-in microphone and the possibility to record internally on the receiver. A connection for the lavalier mics would also have been very nice. Then you could use it as a 3rd "transmitter"
3. Missing Accessories
a) A Cold Shoe Mount Adapter - i know you can use the clip, but it doesn't fit well on Tilta Cages, for example
b) so many cables, but no TRRS Cable included
4. Missing functionality
Noise cancellation
Team Rode.
@@mfunk40310 agree on some points but after 10+ reviews, even pro DJI reviews say they are not fans of the noise canceling sound quality. I totally agree…They even say it sounds better without. I’m sure Rode would do it better though.
Well done dude, good to see an honest review of the DJI mic 2 amongst all the others... Hey I can see that you're usiong a non branded foam for the interview go, did you remove the RODE logo or is it a different one ? Let me know, thanks.
Thanks man! That is actually the rode one, I just put black sharpie over the logo 😂 there are some options on amazon though that come in a bunch of different colors that are non branded that I’m looking into!
