This is actually why I got this system - as a wireless pack for my custom IEMs. Real wireless systems cost 6 times as much, and bluetooth introduces too much latency for music work.
@@andrewnibbi how does that work for you? Is the audio quality good enough? How is the latency? I've been looking for a solution for a while. Cost is not the problem for me, the problem is I don't want to plug in many cables, so I want something on battery (like this system).
RØDE Microphones I’m interested in purchasing one of these to use and review on my channel ....is there any plans on a newer version or updated version coming out soon ?
Talk about excellence by accidents. I just ordered a second set of Rode Wireless Go in the new WHITE housings, just to have a redundant backup, then saw your video here on the hack showing how to use both. This will come in hand for me recording virtual church services during COVID-19, and now I can place one mic and transmitter near with the singer, and another on the camera capturing the mixed room audio from the speakers. BTW, also ordered the white lapel mic.
These are all great hacks or tips for the Rode Wireless Go. They are great little wireless mics, but with some very serious limitations. For interviews, or youtube videos, they're great. When you have all the control over your recording, I highly recommend them. However, they have three gigantic flaws for more varied use. First, is the line of sight problem. Sure, you can go 150 feet away if both your TX and RX are out in the open and there's nothing but clean air between them. However, try to hide that TX on your talent, and that's where things get unreliable. Inside of a pocket it usually ok. But if ANY... and I mean ANY part of the person's body gets between the two, you have drop out and static. I even got dropout if my own arm got in the way of the receiver on my audio bag. Second, is the need for heavily shielded cables or mic lines. I tried 8 (yes 8) different external microphones with these and 5 of them created a horrible whining sound depending on where the transmitter was in relation to the cable and mic. And it seemed almost random which mics would cause interference feedback and which didn't. And then third, and perhaps worst, is that while there are three levels of amplification on the receive side, there's no control for the transmit side. If I had talent raise their voices too loud, I would get distortion and clipping, no matter what I did on the receiving side. And this was recording into a Zoom F6, which doesn't even have clipping. The only fix to that would be to put the microphone further away from their mouths, but then it was less effective than a boom mic. In the end, I had to sell two of the three units I had and go with a Sennheiser wireless G4 500 system for production work. The Wireless GO units were just too frustrating to work with in a production environment.
Saramonic Blink might solve your problems. They are less sensitive to line of sight (or lack thereof), they let you set the input gain on the transmitter rather than the output gain on the receiver and they come with lav mics in the package, which work right out of the box.
and 4th: you forget the Hack #11: use the internal mic only for emergencys because (at least for me) the internal mic doesn't sound realy great. An external lac mic will help ;-)
I've never had the problem 1 and 2 you've listed. I use it for interviews and I'm not very far so it works well for my scenario. I use a lot with the lapel mic from Rode and use the GO as a transmitter only and never got an issue with cables. But the 3 problem is quite common. I believe the mic is too sensitive. If you need to place it near the mouth (for example with a T-shirt or similar when you have just the collar to hold it, the level may become problematic. You may reduce the output as you say, but the input level no and it's too sensitive. If I use the same micro placement with a lapel it works fine. With Rode GO you need 15 to 20 cm away from the source to avoid clipping in the mic/receiver itself.
Please be aware that if you use the Go as a wireless transmitter for a Boom Mic, you may blow out the input on the transmitter. As well as the on-board internal mic.
Great video! I ordered a few days ago, and have recorded with this kit a few times. Used with an iPhone X, I monitored my wife's audio pass, using Bluetooth headphones, directly into the Audioshare app, then exported to Lumafusion, to continue with my edit. What a time to be alive!
This is great, you originally convinced me to pick up a set of these and now you've made them 10X more useful to me. Unrelated, I would love to see you do a video on the Godox VL video lights!
Gotta say, as an industry pro myself, you packed in an astounding amount of really useful info that will save people years of on the job experience. Great video!
Gotta say, the Wireless GO and the little USB-C adapter thing for the Osmo Pocket have been 2 must haves...this with the Osmo Pocket makes for pretty much the best thing ever. Seriously. Love it.
I would like for you to do an audio guide akin to your camera guides. Something in-depth about field recording, studio recording, voiceover work, etc. You think that could ever happen?
Tip: Normally the screen goes dim after about 8 seconds but if you push the main button on the receiver twice, the display remains at full brightness until you press it again. I discovered this just by playing around with it. This could be useful for visual monitoring outdoors though it would surely reduce battery life. I couldn’t find this feature listed on their website so I thought I’d put it out there.
I was just gifted a wireless go for my birthday and I am ABSOLUTELY blown away! I do corporate video work and this is going to be great for interviews. I also love what your doing with the mixer and plugging 2 in. I'll probaby just use my Zoom H6 as the mixer but still love all of these Ideas!
Thanks for the amazing tips sir. I own 2 Wireless Go and 2 H1n Zoom. These little beasts already paid its costs 5 fold. People starting at this career tend to believe video is more important than sound... In fact it's the opposite: we are all SOUND ENGINEERS with the additional task of adding moving images on top of it.
I've two sets of the Go and already use several of these tips. The versatility is what I really appreciate. One thing that I've noticed is that if you want to go with a more traditional lav mic to plug into the transmitter, and get an even better audio sound, you need to watch out because not all lavs play nice with the Rode. As an example some cheaper JK lavs produced a lot of noise while the Rodes I have from my older filmmaker kits gave beautiful sound. I suspect it has to do with the shielding.
No no THIS is Eric ;). I owned it before the store I purchased from listed the item for purchase :P. I was like, what is that? When I started my channel this item was one of the first items I purchased, if you do camera recording and you walk a distance away being able to sound right there at the mic is priceless.
Get one! I bought one set of Rode Wireless Go because we all stay at home at taking a lot of teaching video for students. These little stuff are very handy and great in voice recording quality. But I lost the original wind shield already.
This video is so intelligent! I have 1 set of wireless go's and I never even thought about the shotgun combo hack. This overcomes just about every limitation I've come across with my kit. Thank you for making informative content Caleb, I honestly haven't seen a smarter video in a long time!
Guys from experience: if using two pairs, be careful to keep the receivers a little ways apart from one another: 2-3 inches. I’ve had them mounted on top of each other and it’s interference city.
Joris Maas I had them running into a mixer using 3.5mm-to-1/4” cables so I could compress/EQ them. But you could always just use longer cables going into that splitter and tape one of the receivers on the tripod or something. That said, if 2-3 inches works for you, I wouldn’t sweat it. It really depends on how RF-congested your environment is.
I would like to ask a question here 🙋 We live stream via zoom or facebook etc. often with consecutive translation. So we need to two mic inputs into one laptop. Is this possible with two wireless go sets? If yes what do I need to buy in orser to set it up? Operating system is either OS or windows 10 (preferably windows 10), or even an android phone, that would be the least clutter. Thank you so much
I bought this few days ago and use it with my Gopro Hero 8 Black. This Setup is so great. I can even say „Gopro start record“ far away and have great sound and 4K.
I think people really need to be made aware of how much of an issue the weak 'line of sight' signal is! If you're just using this mic like the examples in this video you will be fine, but if you plan on using this for any kind of doc work where you're mic'ing up a subject and following them around, SAVE YOUR MONEY AND GET SOMETHING ELSE. I can't even begin to tell you how many times my audio has become useless because of the constant drop outs from LESS THAN 10 FEET AWAY. I wanted to get a nice wireless kit and save a few bucks so I went with the Wireless GO instead of something like the Senheisser AVX-ME2 which was 4x the price - but you CANT PUT A PRICE ON RELIABILITY!
Garrett agree 100%. The wife and I were doing some outdoor exercise and I mic'd her up. The transmitter was attached to a GoPro mounted to my bike and while riding the the audio was cutting in and out so bad it was unusable!
Those Saramonic mixers are great. I recently shot a roundtable event with 8 guests. Ended up using 4 x GH5s, each with a Saramonic mixer on top, each running 2 sets of Wireless Go mics. Was a bit nervous about all those signals bouncing around a smallish room but the Wireless Gos performed excellently, and the mixers where handy for last minute balancing before we rolled.
Hi! Thanks for the video, it was so helpful as I'm trying to learn how to use my Wireless Go! Do you have links to where you bought those gray lights in the background of your set?
The biggest issue I have with the Rode Go is that the audio level jumps way up when I start to talk and then comes back down to something reasonable. As long as I keep talking its fine, but if I stop for a few seconds it jumps back up again for the first few words.
When you stop talking the Automatic Gain Control 'believes' there might be a silent noise it could pick up. So it regulates the microphone for silent noises. When you start talking again, the microphone has to be regulated to your noise level again. I don't own this system, but you might check, if you could level the sound manually.
Thank you! I was completely lost on what would be the best microphone for recording yoga videos and I watched several of your videos. They helped me solidify to purchase the Rode.
Awesome segment. My Wireless Go hack was video recording of a panel discussion. Audio into my Zoom recorder then I used my Wireless Go Xmitter at the console to send audio to my iPhone for a Facebook Live Flawless. Thank You Caleb
Caleb Love your instructional video. I bought the DSLR for the BM4K and I use it all the time. Last year I had a double Stoke. I'm 86 years old so it really affected me. Without your instructional videos, I would be totally lost.
It doesn't matter where you are now on this plant, if you read this, I wish you a wonderful and happy life where all dreams and aspirations come through! Wishing you this from America. ❤️😊😄
Thanks for all these great tips! This product is almost perfect, but I can’t get over the interference susceptibility, and the audio quality is just barely below what I would want. I’ll definitely put some of these tricks to use with other systems 👍
Man these almost ruined an entire shoot. IF YOU TURN AROUND THE MIC CUTS OUT. Seriously disappointed at how few you tubers mentioned such a huge shortcoming. I was lucky I had my backup Mics or I would have never been hired by that company again. A wireless system that’s great as long as no one turns around. Love your videos. Thought this product is useless for anything beyond vlogging.
The Truth Reviews there’s plenty of reviews that discuss this products range. Don’t blame Rode or TH-camrs because you didn’t do your research or use the product correctly.
yeah for professional work these mics are unacceptable, even sometimes when i use them in my house i get the mics cutting out while im standing right infront of it.
Dude, this was crazy! So many things I have never even thought of. One thing I didn't see you mention that I've been thinking about is using the Rode VideoMic NTG with a Wireless Go for a wireless boom solution.
Another awesome video - thanks - always super informative and beautifully produced. Can I ask if or what post production tweaking you did to the audio to make it sound so crispy clear? Thanks! Mike
I'm new to doing video work and don't have a ton of need for audio at this point but this system looks very versatile and flexible. Thanks for putting this together!
I have one GO and now I'm selling my Sennheiser AVXs and going with Rode GOs because they're so much easier to work with. I'm planning to get a 2nd GO so this gives me some additional ideas. The Interview GO is pretty slick!! I'm going to pick that up once it's available and I'm able to leave my house and interview someone 🦠🔫 For me, I use the Rode InvisiLav and attach directly to my chest under my shirt using Rycote Stickies. It's an incredible solution that doesn't cause any ruffling, and sticks on tight. My only complaint about that splitter cable (I bought it after watching you reference it in a previous video) is that it doesn't stay very well in my Sony a6500. The plastic barrel part is too big so it wants to come out instead of stay in. That's kind of a problem! I wish there was a different cable option that did the same thing but played nicely with Sony Alpha cameras. I may have to sand it down or find another solution. As always, thanks for all the great ideas, information and the links!
Not that I needed much convincing after your first video about this unit but now it seems like this is the perfect setup for what I want to start doing
I stumbled on your videos a few days ago looking for camera comparisons for my son who is getting a used A7sii for low light shooting. I ended up watching lots of your videos and love them. my son is a lot more technically advanced than me in that regard, so he understands everything you're talking about, both for videos and camera settings, etc. nonetheless, I've enjoyed your videos immensely, they are very helpful, such useful, good information. I'm almost ready to face the menu on my Sony A7ii. I find a way to make art with my camera, somehow, even though I don't know a lot about the settings, etc. this is like going to a school I actually love showing up for. thanks.
Thanks for the video. I been using boya wm6 for lav, but I am having interference making my audio sound bad. Got the Rode Wireless GO and very satisfied with its result and it is easiest to setup, ideal for youtuber like me where I don’t have time to tweak and experiment with settings. Great video, audio sound good.
The bonus of these mics is the size and weight, great design and very easy to use. You do get what you pay for... As mentioned in the video the line of sight is often a challenge in the field.... more often than prefered. This list of tips is excellent, lots of good ideas. Thank you
Wow. That was one of the best set of hacks I've ever seen on TH-cam. Clearly explained. Easy to follow. And each hack had serious merit. So clever! I will likely employ several of these. Thanks for sharing the knowledge.
I'm a noob hoping to start my own channel. I've been looking at these. Now I'm done looking! This might be the most informative and clearly laid out video I've ever seen. New sub!
Love this audio kit @ 8:21 1. How do you connect your recorder to the USB rechargeable battery? 2. Are the wireless GO receivers also plugged into the rechargeable battery? 3. How are you sending an output from the recorder to your camera while simultaneously recording to an SD card?
I've actually been using the rode wireless go in place of a traditional shot gun mic and it works suprisingly great. When I need to get better audio, like an interview I just unclip and place on to the subject. I had my doubts but wow!
Hello my friend! Great video! I have one of these but I cannot for the life of me get it to sound like yours. Could you make a video showing us how to get the best audio quality from this beast?
Excellent video. Clean and to the point. I especially like the under the shirt mounting hacks. I'm upgrading to the Rode Go on my new iPhone 13 Pro Max to shoot videos for my channel. 👍
Awesome RODE GO hacks Caleb! Love the more studio aspect of your tricks. I primarily based my 6 tricks video off of narrative films a year ago. Still loving this RODE GO for when I need a wireless audio setup over the traditional bulkier setups. Hope you are well and stay safe and healthy my friend!
The wireless headphone hack is brilliant. Will be doing that for sure. Also love the dedicated mini kit for field recording. Your content and creativity is highly appreciated Caleb, keep it up!
Gr8 Video as always, Question how do you connect wirelessly as VO mic to laptop? is it a special software? I have the mic and macbook pro. Thx in advance
Great video ! Just ordered a kit, can’t wait to have fun with it. Do you have a link to all the gear you use to shoot your videos with ? And what are those sculpture looking things in the background ? The light and the camera and tripod ? Looks amazing !! Would love to know
Once I was filming a demonstration with consecutive activists speaking and also a few Members of Parliament appeared on stage. At first I started with a shotgun on the camera and the wireless Go clipped to the collar of the moderator. Both connected via a Saramonic SR- AX100 to my GH5. One of the activists on stage took care of the Go (I did not ask it anybody) and took care of clipping the Go to the consecutive speakers. I did not anticipate that, but it was a tremendous help! The ease of use of the Wireless Go appeals to people on stage.
I love my Go for an number of reason and I've had another Rode Go in my 'cart' for a couple of days. Now I guess I have no more excuse not press the 'pay now' button ;-) My biggest reason is to be able to do interviews in the wilds offroad without having to drag wired lav mics around the bush. But all those little extra hacks make it even better use of my time/equipment/money. Thanks!
Brilliant! I too love the WirelessGO, to the point I never use my Filmmakers kits as mics. Now we just need somebody to make different colors of silicone covers.
Amazing, gonna use my sennheiser AVX to do similar things. You're the best gear problem solver out there. Could also put the Go in a kaotica eyeball type thing for travel recording. Made your mini space light flexible mat hack and I use it everyday, its the best size to power to weight to spread I've ever used. So thank you!

FILM 2.0 Amen to this. Learned the hard way during a livestream. 2-3 inches wasn’t enough in our case-ended up at more like a foot just to be safe.
Good to know. Thank you!
@@JeremyHalterman How did you mount the 2 recievers on your camera with 1 food difference in distance?

I made a little necklace from fishing line with a little loop for my rode extension mic. I put the transmitter in my front pocket. I love it.
I love my AVX kit, it’s been so reliable. Price is steep, but I’m happy with what I got. There is latency though that can get annoying in post
Great stuff! 👍
@@michaelstadnikfilm Is there a way to disable that? None of my other mics do that.
That issue would be in your camera
Thank you! I was completely lost on what would be the best microphone for recording yoga videos and I watched several of your videos. They helped me solidify to purchase the Rode.
Remember when you said you wouldn't review Rode mics?
That didn't last well did it? 😅
Rode upgraded/released EVERYTHING after that video came out 😂
@@dslrvideoshooter HAHAHA
@@dslrvideoshooter and they had a terrible bug with wireless go - internal mic stops working after inserting then removing an external one :(
Awesome segment. My Wireless Go hack was video recording of a panel discussion. Audio into my Zoom recorder then I used my Wireless Go
Xmitter at the console to send audio to my iPhone for a Facebook Live Flawless. Thank You Caleb
DSLR Video Shooter And maybe competition from Deity’s also had something to do with it too 😊
Caleb
Love your instructional video. I bought the DSLR for the BM4K and I use it all the time. Last year I had a double Stoke. I'm 86 years old so it really affected me. Without your instructional videos, I would be totally lost.
I love the sound of these but couldn't get 6 feet away in times square without dropouts. Unusable at that point. Back to sennheiser g4's.
This review just saved thousands of filmmakers here... Everything in one video. Good job mate
@0:52 missed opportunity to use a toilet paper roll 😂
Lol
In 2020, toilet paper is more valuable than the mic.
I've been using the Go for voiceovers since it was launched, it's amazing
Man these almost ruined an entire shoot. IF YOU TURN AROUND THE MIC CUTS OUT. Seriously disappointed at how few you tubers mentioned such a huge shortcoming. I was lucky I had my backup Mics or I would have never been hired by that company again. A wireless system that’s great as long as no one turns around. Love your videos. Thought this product is useless for anything beyond vlogging.
The Truth Reviews there’s plenty of reviews that discuss this products range. Don’t blame Rode or TH-camrs because you didn’t do your research or use the product correctly.
What?
@@BlackNomad1 He didn't blame them, he said he was disappointed at how few mention it.
Thanks for the info
yeah for professional work these mics are unacceptable, even sometimes when i use them in my house i get the mics cutting out while im standing right infront of it.
The level of cable and gadget mastery you have is astounding. I'm in awe.
6:56 In this example, I will tape it to my shirt BECAUSE I DONT WANT TO WAX MY CHEST YOU SADIC MONSTER
Wear a bra :- )
Dude, this was crazy! So many things I have never even thought of. One thing I didn't see you mention that I've been thinking about is using the Rode VideoMic NTG with a Wireless Go for a wireless boom solution.
That saramonic mixer setup with two receivers looks quite legit. That's my new audio setup goal. Thank you Caleb!!!
Thanks for putting this together!
blew my mind! thanks for these hacks!!!
I have one GO and now I'm selling my Sennheiser AVXs and going with Rode GOs because they're so much easier to work with. I'm planning to get a 2nd GO so this gives me some additional ideas. The Interview GO is pretty slick!! I'm going to pick that up once it's available and I'm able to leave my house and interview someone 🦠🔫
For me, I use the Rode InvisiLav and attach directly to my chest under my shirt using Rycote Stickies.
This. is. pure. gold.
Thanks man, fixing about all issues I was having with audio on the channel!
This was so cool, thank you. Quick question - how does the Zoom H1 work with the Rode Wireless Go? Are they not both microphones?
Thank you
This was fantastic, thank you! It actually solved a lot of lingering questions I had about the Rode Wireless Go & playing around with setups.
Probably the most useful video I've watched in ages! Awesome tips. I'll be putting a few of them to use on my Wireless Go setup.
New sub!
Love this audio kit @ 8:21
1. How do you connect your recorder to the USB rechargeable battery?
2. Are the wireless GO receivers also plugged into the rechargeable battery?
3. How are you sending an output from the recorder to your camera while simultaneously recording to an SD card?
This is a great list of actually useful and not-so-obvious tips. Thank you.
I've actually been using the rode wireless go in place of a traditional shot gun mic and it works suprisingly great. When I need to get better audio, like an interview I just unclip and place on to the subject. I had my doubts but wow!
Great tips. That cable that separates left from right is the best idea ever!
Just ordered a Rode setup. Watched 2 of your informative videos on it. Excellent job, thanks.
Awesome tips. Just got the Go and I will definitely be trying these out!
Holy Moly I JUST ordered the Wireless Go and the Case is the perfect solution. THANKS!
These are just so tempting because they would be incredibly handy for a bunch of situations.
These are great ideas on how to get more out of the Wireless GO. We use the Wireless GO mic for all of our Instagram videos, and are big fans!
Great tricks man! I love my wireless go mics
That kit at the end is genius. I have some of those parts already! Thank you, Caleb.
Buying that splitter with your link - thank you!! Helpful tips!
I already had a Rode Wireless Go, which I like, but this video was packed with many great ideas to use it better! Thanks a bunch!
Great video ! Just ordered a kit, can’t wait to have fun with it.
Do you have a link to all the gear you use to shoot your videos with ? And what are those sculpture looking things in the background ? The light and the camera and tripod ? Looks amazing !! Would love to know
7:10 strapping the microphone, I just found a use for bras again lol - it's quarantine, who needs them right now
Just bought white one for my GoPro. Excited.
just picked up a fitness headset to try with these. Seems like a much better solution than the bulky packs on other wireless fitness mic systems.
Great video! I’m going to build out mini audio bag kit. Quick question. Where are you plugging in headphones to the kit?
Once I was filming a demonstration with consecutive activists speaking and also a few Members of Parliament appeared on stage. At first I started with a shotgun on the camera and the wireless Go clipped to the collar of the moderator. Both connected via a Saramonic SR- AX100 to my GH5. One of the activists on stage took care of the Go (I did not ask it anybody) and took care of clipping the Go to the consecutive speakers. I did not anticipate that, but it was a tremendous help! The ease of use of the Wireless Go appeals to people on stage.
Thank You. Really nice video, good explanation and nicely shot! Especially for voiceover on the go sounds great
I’ve got four of those and never even thought of some of your uses. Thanks!
4:46 Caleb, congrats👏 You just did it, now Rode just released it's own splitter system The SC11 + DCS-1. You're a Visionary man! 👏
Thanks!
I love the Rode wireless go! These hacks are awesome :D I'll definitely make note for my next project. Thank youu
Brilliant! I too love the WirelessGO, to the point I never use my Filmmakers kits as mics. Now we just need somebody to make different colors of silicone covers.
I would love to see an in depth video of the last set up. The Rode Go's with the mixer and recorder.
