I’m a retired Professional Woodworker and I use the same gun for spraying Contact cement , same theory I buy them at Harbor Freight for under 20 bucks ,I’ve seen them on EBay around the same money from different vendors
I'll try this. I've always used contact glue that was from a can because it's easy to get. But I've learned it doesn't like heavy materials even though it says heavy duty. I'll have to see if they have a spray gun glue here and give us a try. Always a pleasure to watch mark
Awesome Mark. Will be signing up for the free lessons on your website and I'm looking forward to your pillar build tutorial. I'm about to embark on one of my own here shortly (pillars and sail panels). Keep up the great work !
Hi mark!! i live in Puerto Rico and nobody works that brand but instead i can find good spray ready contact cements with other brands at wood workers stores used to work with laminates, you think this kind does the work?
I am making a set of door and dash panels for an old car. Backer board, then foam, the vinyl. The first few panels I brushed on the glue with no issues. I then watched this vid and got a gun, sprayed the glue, and got bubbles in the vinyl to foam layer ……. A lot of bubbles. I couldn’t get them all out, and after it dried it was trash. Had to do it all over. Amy ideas where I went wrong? How do I avoid pits and bubbles when spraying?
I have that exact spray gun (its brand new) and the same adhesive you are using. I can not get any of the glue to come out. Only air. I have the PSI set to about 50 psi. I took the gun apart and cleaned it prior to first use per the instructions. Is there a trick to getting it to pick up the adhesive? I also noticed in the gun manual that it says to use a nozzle head with larger holes when using glue. Is that really needed?
Hi there, this glue is the same used to shoes maker, right? so that looks little thick for use on air gun, so do you use acetone to thin that? also clean noze? and the 1.4mm noze with 60psi would works best, that´s it. thanks dude.

Hey Mark, I hope you are having a great day, I have a question, since you using a lot this adhesive, I'm going to replace side panel, made of aluminum painted sheet, so I need to glue it to the polyurethane foam (it's not the Styrofoam), so if I spray glue I need to slide the sheet under other one, what I'm trying to say after glue is applied, sheet need to be corrected by moving, what is the best way to do it, and how fast it cures? Thanks a lot!

Hey Mark, what can i thin the glue with, i use the exact same stuff it just been sitting on the shelf for a year and gotten so thick now. I don't have an air compressor or gun, i brush it on.
2 things, you use laquer thinner to clean that purple gun, and also it was never meant to spray at 60-70 psi, it was meant for 25-35 psi, roughly, not that it matters because when ts on sale it's $9
@@jovanygarcia2473 no harbor freight has an upgraded green gun $24.99, it's better than the previous purple gun. Get a regulator that's medium priced at HF you need 1/4 npt. You also need the airline couplers, ask the associate working
since the gun was never meant to spray glue, use a thinner if you can find out which it uses, if not since it's think use as big of a nozzle as possible which means the sizes used for spraying primers 1.6mm-2.5mm, since those are expensive look up youtube and and it shows how to drill out the nozzle to get a larger hole. don't sweat it, just use this guin as is, it works fine, this isn't that critical unless it wont spray

any size will work, its not being used for anything important. and he said the psi, but that gun was never meant to spray at 60-70, only 25-35, but it's a throw away gun, so test the psi, what ever works is the right psi
How often to you use the spray gun, daily/weekly/bi-weekly/monthly? How do you keep it from gumming up the nozzle between spraying since you never take it apart and clean it, since it is glue?

Good information, but a lot is left out. That purple gun is now only available in a 1.4 mm tip. I called Harbor Freight to verify this. They told me they no longer offer other tip sizes. Also nobody talks about air supply. This is a HVLP gun. Even so, it requires 6 cfm to operate. I want to be mobile. I found another gun that uses 3.5 to 3.9 CFM which matches pretty well with a Makita MAC 2400 compressor. The thing is, it's an LVLP gun by Sprayit. This operates within the capabilities of the compressor which is powerful for its size and very portable. So far I have found no information on whether an LVLP gun can properly atomize the spray grade Dap contact cement. I can get a 2 mm tip for it, but can the cap properly atomize this glue. If not, is there a way to go mobile without having to have a huge compressor and tank? I will only be spraying headliners which doesn't require that much spray time.

I used the same setup for reupholstering my van, worked great. Buying the gallon is way cheaper than using spray cans of adhesive.

How did you remove that piece to show the bigger hole in the front of the air gun? (1:40)
Can we use Latex with spray gun ?
Awesome video! Do you remove the small screen that sits in the gun to prevent it from clogging or does not occur with this glue?
Will we ever get to see your air setup? I need to go get a tank and compressor, but not sure what to get.

Is it necessary or needed to be thinned
What do u charge to build a custom ported box

Hey Mark, what can i thin the glue with, i use the exact same stuff it just been sitting on the shelf for a year and gotten so thick now. I don't have an air compressor or gun, i brush it on.
no you can not thin contact cement. when it gets too thick to spray just toss it or you could still brush it on.
it's still on the thick side for brushing, it just don't wet out into the material too good.
DJ Inclined You can thin it with acetone, it doesnt take much to thin so dont go overboard, it does make it spray a little better.
Thanks mate. That was hilarious. Wondering how i can order the adhesive from Australia? Amazon doesn't ship to Australia this product.
Friggen genius using tape as a pour spout. I hate when adhesive gets all over the can.

1.4mm harbor freight tools
How often to you use the spray gun, daily/weekly/bi-weekly/monthly? How do you keep it from gumming up the nozzle between spraying since you never take it apart and clean it, since it is glue?
Just use acetone every so often to clean the nozzle
Would this work on a headliner for vinyl
Yes.
Im in az and have gone through like 5 of these lol the heat is too much for the harbor freight gun when i leave half full
clean it with laquer thinner after each use
So I've noticed that if you dont use the DAP for a while it gets thick. Can you thin it with anything. I hate to ruin a half gallon
I'd check the msds to be sure but rumor has it acetone works.
The newer 1.4mm tip works just fine at about 60PSI on a 2 gallon rolair compressor doesn’t run continually even though the Rolar can handle it.
