The reason why some people get warned and some get immediately ejected is that they failed the exit inspection instead of the entry inspection. You are allowed to use the rosin on the mound and that can make your hand too sticky and you will be told to wash that off, but you arent supposed to use any rosin before entering so being to sticky on an entrance examination is an immediate ejection.

@@TrevorMayBaseball I'm really not sure it does. MLB says rock rosin is legal as long as you don't use "to much". What "to much" means is anyones guess but it seems to be based primarily on the mood of an umpire, if it's his time of the month, and his personal grudges. If you can't have any rosin on your hand when coming into the game well then why do they say rock rosin is legal as the rosin bag on the pitchers mound is just powder rosin correct?
MLB is truly incapable of doing anything right. Making rules that contradict themselves. Saying substances that have been in the game for over 100 years are legal unless the umpires on the rag and decides it's illegal in which case the player is suspended for 10 days and the team loses a roster spot. MLB and the umpires union could F up a wet dream.

My opinion is, if a guy is sticky to the point he has to be ejected, so be it. But there should not be an automatic 10 game suspension. Take a sample of what's on his hand, glove, neck, ear, whatever, and test it. If it comes back as something other than rosin, sweat and dirt, THEN 10 game suspension. It's either legal or it's not. Suspending somebody for using something that is LITERALLY on the field, is asinine.

I think the reason it feels out of whack to a lot of people is the asymmetry of discretion. Umpires appear to have tremendous discretion about when to eject a pitcher and, as you said, about what the standard is. But then once that happens, the league has left itself no discretion whatsoever as to the sanction. If a guy is really trying to cheat and brings in a substance other than the approved ones, or if he violates the rule repeatedly, sure, a harsh suspension. But I think we've seen a number instances now where it probably would have been more appropriate to impose some combination of an ejection, an additional fine, and/or a shorter suspension. And if there were some kind of more graduated process and a rubric to follow, it would all just feel fairer and more transparent.

Okay, I got a lot of thoughts about the sticky stuff situation.
First of all, preferably the balls come pre-tacked by a machine that evenly tacks the balls instead of being done by hand. MLB is responsible for the baseballs anyway and in literally every other industry/organization they use their vertical integration to HELP their product. But I guess a whole bunch of millionaires and billionaires are to cheap to invest upfront.
That means onto option 2. Continue with what they are doing now, but actually have a procedure.
    1) Umpires check the closers hand as they come in.
    2) If its to sticky, they make them go and wash their hand. If the pitcher returns with their hand being sticky, they can't pitch for that game.
    3) The umpires collect the player's gloves, caps, and etc and sent them to MLBs labs to get tested.
    4) Meanwhile, the MLB offices the next morning look into the offending players spin rate throughout the year. If its alarmingly up, they are put on probation until the lab results come back. If it's normal, they can continue to pitch until the lab results come back.
    5) If the lab results come back negative, the pitcher. If the lab results come back positive, they receive that ten day suspension.
