I just did this to mine. The side panels are just plywood and are ill-fitting, which allows for vibration and sound bypass. Just pull the carpet off and use your dynamat. I used spray foam around the top, a layer of dynamat, and the same foil-backed foam that you used. Huge improvement.
Thanks Jeff 👍 You have inspired me to sound deaded my inboard with Dynamat. It's been a labor of love with many hours of uncomfortable body positions, trying to get to all those nooks and crannies.
Thanks Jeff. I am starting my transformation to a quieter engine bay today. Great help seeing your process. I may do the pipe insulation and cut the hoodliner to fit inside of it instead of to the edge. I am using kilmat today for first layer
I can't begin to tell you how nice it is to hear, talk and enjoy our boat now that the engine noise is at a normal level. I do kick my self in the butt for not doing this mod first thing when i bought the boat. I would do it exactly how I did it. Do it in stages so it's not a big job all at once. ENJOY!
Thanks Jeff! I did my 195S and we can now hear someone talking when we are under way. I went around the engine bay and tapped and knocked around listening for hollow spots. Also I put a small noise maker in the engine bay to try and hear where the sound was coming from.
Another great video. Still looking for our sx230 or ar…. Just slalomed behind neighbors ar210. Wake was comparable to my Malibu response lx. Totally surprised. Would love to see actual decibel differences before and after…
I love the vids. Been considering going to one of these form a standard i/o but was unsure. I really like the lower maintenance and I think that has me hooked.
I had a direct drive Master Craft, then a I/O Cobalt and these Yamaha Jet Boats are by far the most reliable and easiest to maintain out of all of them.
I'm wondering y you didn't roll the product over the rounding corners and use it as one big piece where possible .?great work though I'm thankful for the effort you put in.
This was just how I did it. I don't do engine insulation for my main job so i am sure with more experience maybe I could have done it more professional but I this is worked great and still works great. More time boating and less time working on boat!
Love the video series. Can't wait to do this to my 06 Sx210. My foam is crumbling and just making a mess everywhere! I do have a question for you. My key ignition has a black plastic nut that connects the key switch to the helm. It was stripped by the previous owner. You can buy the entire assembly (F1C-U8036-02-00) but its on back order everywhere and stupid expensive for a part the doesn't entirely need to be replaced. Any idea where I could just get the plastic nut?
Great vid series man. This has been on my winter todo list for a couple yrs now. One question. Did you see any kind of temp increase since sealing up the bay tighter?
Hello Jeff! Just got a Yamaha Jetboat and wow thank god for all your knowledge. It is of course very loud, 2015 - and the install of Dynamat is awesome. The only concern is heat increasing with the install? I read somewhere that 2015 sx192 has a heat sink problem. What do you think? It really needs the insulation.
The yamaha heat sink issues relate to the supercharged engines, and it's the air charge going into the engine, not the engine cooling temperature. Boats that are raw water cooled(using lake water to cool the motor) run nice and cool always. To will have no worries with increased engine temps are temps of any kind with insulating the engine compartment.
These are the MR1 engines right? I have a 2012 212SS which was the first year they put the 1.8s in a 21 ft boat. I assume the MR1s are louder because if their mich higher RPM. Have you heard a dual 1.8L boat yet? Curious to know how they compare in regards to sound. My boat has the factory dampening material falling off and I'm looking for a solution. I tried to order the OEM parts but they are on backorder. Thanks for responding to my post on your other video, I may try the dynamat material for the whole thing. But it is expensive.
I removed the old pipe insulation to see if it was even needed after doing the Dynamat Foam. Because of the adhesive on the rubber pipe insulation it was destroyed when I removed it. I had just regular cheap pipe insulation in the garage so I just used it and it worked just fine.

Thanks for this! I did my boat also and it’s a huge improvement.
Yes, it was massive improvement for us too. Glad it helped!
Do you have the MR1s or the 1.8s?

Thanks Jeff 👍

It's totally worth it. It made a massive difference on my jet boat. My buddy did his 94 supra after rebuilding his doghouse, and it was whisper quite.
Really appreciate these videos! We got an AR195 this year and it seriously needs this. Will apply this winter. Thank you for the tips!
Glad it was helpful!
And on top of doing a great job at dampening the sound, it really looks cool in there as well. Well done
Thank you very much!

can you please send me some photos! I am working on my 195S this week.
Did you ever use Dynamat's new material and finish this project?
Hello Jeff, thank you for sharing your experience with us. Did you end up doing the sides and the back as mentioned? Thank you and God Bless!

It is a massive difference. It is similar to a motorcycle with and without a muffler.

I like how you caught yourself saying sticky shit 😂

None at all.

Every new generation of the yamaha boats they had decreased the engine noise. 06-09 are the loudest then 10-14, big jump in 2015 and so on.
Not only was the noise reduction in the engine but the pump design as well.
Hi Jeff, are you still going to seal up the joints and transitions with the silver/aluminum 3M tape?
No, everything is holding up just fine. In my opinion it is not needed.
@@JeffDoesThis Thanks, long term as prevention? As they say: "A stitch in time saves nine"
Everybody is happy
Did you end up changing out the rubber tubing for foam tubing? It looks different.

What about increase in heat?
