Interesting. Miss Master's Degree said her husband had been married twice before in another country and needed marriage with her to get a green card. Wow!!! If a black man went to a foreign country and got a woman who has been divorced twice and she needed marriage to him to get a green card, would this great counseling session have gone the same way? Or would that black man get bashed and told he had better options than the one he chose? After all, black men like myself who have a foreign wife who was never married and no kids - many still claim we had better options here in America. There are many double standards in the "counseling" that men and women receive from society.

So far, biggest takeaway: she mentioned shera in the very beginning all I could do is smh. I thought getting married to a good man was the goal! Shera has a specific audience and outcome... but not what we are all looking for! It comes off as very spoiled, entitled and delusional to say you feel 'duped' after years of marriage to have not chosen a more 'successful' mate. Eta: My biggest problems at this point just involve suffering the consequence of previous poor relationship choices, focusing on self improvement and learning all I can in the meantime. Taking your advice to take a break and possibly rejoin the dating pool in my 40s once my girls are grown:/

Marriage is about ups and downs, being there when it counts. She's for the streets. I was one of them. I'd hit 35 and decided (well it was happening over time) I was no longer happy and that I was just existing in my marriage. I wanted out!!! The elders in my family helped me get realistic. They said yeah you're still cute or whatever but baby its a dirty game out here. Your best bet is to stay right where you are. Your man is hardworking, he hustles, he loves God loves his family, all your kids are with him, no outside kids baby mamas or foolishness, yall have a nice life together home, luxuries, family, travel.. don't get caught up in the deception thinking there's more because you will come up short and even if you do land a good one trust me theres a new set of problems waiting for you. Take this time to grow your relationship and in a short time you will be welcoming grandchildren and then what? You gone be at the club dropping it like its hot? no cause that's not cute no more and it gets old quick. Get your mind right. And I did. Theres a bigger picture. Happiness is a choice.

My sister had the same attitude. She was a teacher also with a masters and thought my brother in law was not doing enough. The man was a hard worker and had two jobs working alot of overtime. But that was not good enough. Her attitude changed when she could not take it anymore and wanted to leave her job. She left her job and became a driver to deliver medicine. She then humbled herself.
