the OE plug for that is Iridium, although Platinum will work but, it is CHEAPER. also, you don't gap platinum or iridium plugs... you will ruin the platinum/iridium tip if you do.
I have NGK Laser Iridiums, no issues, your truck is a 2003 due to the front end, also yours has the return style fuel system, 2004-2007 Classic do not (Excluding vans)
What tool would you suggest using? I'm not gonna respond with a smart ass remark. I'm actually legitimately curious to know cuz I need to replace my wires and plugs and I've been told not to use vise grips because it could potentially break the fragile wires??
Yeahhh um...we're gonna proceed by doing thing the easier way with this flat head....welp it's not working right (struggles for 2-3 minutes) well I'm just gonna restart the video...then I'm a show ya how I struggle the easier way #WorkSmartNotHard
Sometimes those GM plug wires with the metal heatshield ends are SUPER HARD to get off! The best way to get them off, that I found, is to snap a small pair of needle nose vicegrips onto the edge of the heatshield. That gives you a better hold than your fingers and thumbs can ever do. You can even get a large size pry bar in there to push against the ends of the vicegrips. Sometimes prying with one hand, and shaking and yanking the vicegrips with the other hand are what it takes. They can be a real bugger to get off!!! Be sure to grease them up real good with dialectric grease or the likes before reinstallation.
I would like to have a discussion with the engineer that decided removing the plug wires should be as difficult as possible. The next truck I buy will be a 1968 Ford or Chevy with no computer, plug wires that pull off easily, a fan attached to the front of the motor, points, fuel pump on the side of the block and enough room in the engine compartment to crawl up in there and work.....I do not care what anyone thinks or says, new engines and vehicles are NOT BETTER that they were in the days before the over educated engineers and the government had their say.....just sayin'
Yep. I just spent 2 hrs trying to get them out and replaced. It was so dang complicated I just posted a video series so people won't have scratch their @$$ on how you have to remove each plug. It is much harder than this video depicts it....
I hear you I remember when you could replace a fuel pump in about 10 minutes with a 1/4 ratchet a 7/16 socket and a 1/4 nut driver…now you have to drop the fuel tank and whose genius idea was it to put 12 volts inside a fuel tank???SMFH

The ones from Amazon are actually smaller plugs by a few centimeters than the actual factory ones ..just an FYI... They still work but don't last as long.
It’s ok to yard the wires off any way you need to just buy new heat shields also. NGK is a great spark plug but I have always used them in my motorcycles and various other small engines. Never used them on V8 American engines. Dude is no stranger to banjo music.
I run ngk in everything I own from weed whackers to 250 2 smokes my v6 ranger ngk plugs an wires my 01 silverado 5.3l with ngk plugs an wires they are hands down best plug around
Use these pliers on the METAL part of the boot shield: @t Lever against the engine valve cover, exhaust manifold etc. Use a small piece of plywood or metal if you need to change your lever angle. Do NOT lever against the colis or anything plastic, fragile etc. Try to twist the boot to break its grip before levering it off. Remove the brake booster hose at the brake booster to get access to #7, rear driver/left side. If your wires are old - plan on replacing them. They will likely break when removing. Use the same pliers or long reach needle nose pliers to remove the broken bit of metal wire-to-plug connector. Stay gold.
Place a pliers around the metal clip underneath the rubber exterior twist and pull and it will release from the plug. Don’t worry about the wire getting damaged because if you are changing your plugs you’re changing your wires as well hopefully.

@@vman859 most of Amazon are sellers like you and me, just about anyone from any country. No way of telling where the parts are from or how they got them to begin with. Thats a very important part too what a hassle

You cant be cheap by getting platinum plugs you mention wanting these to last 100,000 miles, platinum will not last that long.. those Herlux wires are not that good...NGK IX iridium and Autotlite XP iridium are cheaper on RockAuto and better quality than the Delco platinum set you bought. Even Bosch platinum better than AC Delco set you bought. Factory specs for LS1/Vortec v8 calls for iridium plugs so they burn hot enough so they do not fouled up and cause miss-fires, while providing better fuel mileage and easier starts, more power .Some 5/8 or 3/4 hose end pliers will get those heat shields/boots off a lot easier. When prying on the boots, you can damage the coils....You kept mentioning distributor cap...but Vortec v8 has individual coils.

Lever against the engine valve cover, exhaust manifold etc. Use a small piece of plywood or metal if you need to change your lever angle.
Do NOT lever against the colis or anything plastic, fragile etc. Try to twist the boot to break its grip before levering it off.
