i stopped playing MKT when i realized that it made me a worse player on MK8D just because i forgot that you can't get automatically item boxes each time you pass near them, and i forgot how to drift, and its pretty unfair for a f2p player (and this comes from a Fire Emblem Heroes player).
Not a "bad" Mario Kart, but not something for me. Hopefully they use some of the ideas here for a future mario kart
I love Tour and I play it everyday, my main complaint is that Nintendo gives way too much attention to Mario, Peach & Toad for alts while the Kongs, the Koopalings and Bowser & Jr. are just outright ignored even when the latter 2 got alts

I wish it wasn’t a huge microtransactions scam. You can’t even unlock a character you want. I wanted Rosalina so bad in this game, and I can’t get her.
I personally really like MarioKart Tour. I enjoy the grinding aspect and challenges that add replay value to the game and it’s all on your phone! Really underrated in my opinion.
Now imagine if we get a Mario Kart stage that is actually based on Pyongyang North Korea

For someone who actually read that short story, that was summed up in the best and worst way possible.
How so?
What I meant by worst way possible is how Mario kart tour came to be. A great game that is panned with typical mobile attributes.
I'll be controversal, but i kinda enjoy Mario Kart tour, i know is not a masterpiece, but i think Is pretty good, but...those microtransation.

You’re not alone in that regard. This game is very addicting. But like you said though the micro transactions are a pain. I get it you have to make money somehow, but I wish with the pipes that you didn’t get a ton of repeats. Although I will say that I always look forward to the all clear cup because I always get something good.

I really enjoyed the game, but just like Zelda Breath of the wild, it's filled with flaws. One of them I loathe the most is the Bullcrap AI (especially on 150cc!) It's like this game is trying to prevent you from getting a high score... I hate that.
I'll never forget those times whenever a new character gets added and fans ask "WHY IS THIS NOT IN MK8DX!?!!? REEEEEEEE" ... And I was one of them. Except without the REEEEEEEEing part and the all caps.
If Mario Kart 9 was like a grand tour across not just the Mushroom Kingdom worlds but worlds themed around real life places, I would love to see some of these courses return.
And if the roster is even remotely diverse like Tour, sign me in, man! Mario Kart Tour IS indeed... A monkey's paw. Everything fans wanted... But in the worse possible way.

I started F2P about 2 weeks ago, and I've been able to get a lot of top shelf characters and kart parts really easily. So far I've been really enjoying it.
12:40 See how tight that drift was? A drift that tight would have given an Ultra Mini-Turbo in Mario Kart 8 Deluxe. That's just one of the things besides the score system that I absolutely _hate_ about this game.
Remember when in just about half of the mario kart installments u get unlockables for just completing tracks and didn't have to pay actually currency....

The only reason I still had this app was that I was able to sneak it into school and not bring a switch. Another pro was it being in a vertical mode, perfect to pretend you're looking up info.

@@Demeech oh.... well that makes sense. Sorry Demeech it's just that I forgot that not only you have a hard time playing it but also Kaozbender also had a very difficult time with that game. However lately I have been mostly on the competitive side of this game with players like Scoub, Leyla Hasso & Sami Cetin and they are VERY Good at that game ESPECIALLY Scoub. @@Demeech Also for the fact that there is a Tournament dedicated to that game itself called the Super Mario Kart Championship and people like Scoub, Leyla Hasso & Sami Cetin attends that event with Scoub being the 4 Time champion of the Super Mario Kart Championships. After taking a break from the game and returning to it later, I came to find a new appreciation for getting duplicates, as they increase the max starting score cap for each character, kart, and glider, making it easier to get more stars. Not only that, but I’m pretty sure they unlock new abilities as well if you get enough. I am a bit disappointed that I haven’t gotten Holiday Cheer Daisy yet, but I’m sure it will happen in due time, especially considering I’ve gotten all the characters I have without spending any money on the micro transactions or the gold pass.
It's even better now, with Petey Piranha and Chargin' Chuck, with tracks like Coconut Mall, Daisy Cruiser, and Koopa Cape.

Mario Kart Tour is so conflicting as a game to me. A lot of its ideas and concepts give it potential to be the Ultimate Mario Kart game... but is clearly held back by everything you covered. It's exactly why I want MK9 so bad. Because if we could get a console non-gacha Mario Kart game that builds off Tour's great ideas, it would be one of the best Mario Karts ever. And would give Smash Ultimate a run for its money in sheer scope.

I also can't believe all you have left is MarioKart Home Circuit! That is until Nintendo bucks up and announces MarioKart 9 (or whatever name it gets). I'm not including Nintendo Kart this time, as that would definitely be different than a MarioKart.
I don't plan on plan on playing MarioKart Tour anytime soon, but it's good to hear that there have been improvements, though of course the mobile game aspect still affects them.

The thing I have noticed is as my level goes up and I get more high end drivers the normal drivers and karts don't show up for tracks anymore even though they are listed for the tracks.

I've been playing MK Tour since it launched. I play pretty much every day even if its just 1 race. I don't find the microtransactions to be that bad. I've played MKT for free for most of my time with it, I've only paid for a couple months of gold, but for the most part you can still earn a bunch of rubies and coins, you just have to grind for them. You have to complete all of the challenges and unlock all the rewards with the gold stars and play every day for the daily reward. You'll start to rack up coins and rubies pretty quickly. The Gold pass is the best deal over buying straight rubies from the shop. Those are ridiculously over priced, the gold pass pretty much doubles the rewards you get from the free mode so it helps you accumulate coins and rubies faster.
Hoard a bunch of coins and rubies for the pipes and the shop and level up your characters with tickets, win the weekly challenges and you're likely to get at least 1 new character each tour. It takes some work and consistency though.

Guess what, I've been playing mario kart tour for around 2 years, and I've got a ton of characters/karts/gliders. I'm also at tier 57, level 119, and multiplayer grade s+6. The best part about all that, is that I have only spent around $15 on the gold pass (to get to s+6), and all the money I spent on the game, was actually just gift card money. It is entirely possible to get a lot of stuff without paying anything. Take spartacurt for example. They are f2p only, and they are one of the best mario kart tour players. All this shows, is that you really don't need to spend a lot of money to get good at mario kart tour.

I've got such mixed feelings about this game. I hate the gambling vibe it has. But I love that they finally kinda brought back missions from Mario Kart DS, added a lot of new characters and made variations of existing courses (reversed and modified).

The first impression Is the most important to the people, and mk tour messed up with that, It started like a discount mariokart so people now take the "early stage criticism" and Just avoid playng It. The problem Is that for a new player Is difficult to enjoy It cause you Need a lot of drivers to get 3 items and High scores and It takes so pong to get them. I love mk tour, but i think i like It now because i have lots of karts and drivers (and of course all of the "Life quality" updates). But without spending Money i got more than half of the roadter in 2 years
I enjoyed watching this video, however, it doesn't even address the issue we are currently having that we are getting a level 7 update next tour. This is basically Mario Kart Tours way of making the whales richer/ better, while leaving the F2P players far behind. The main issue comes from the daily selects shop, which is on a 24 hour a day rotation. The more of the stuff you have maxed out, the more likely you are to get a ticket to increase any item of that rarity and d/k/g. So naturally everyone freaks out when they see a high end driver ticket in their shop. Now imagine level 7. The daily selects are no longer maxed, and you have to basically start all over again, with leveling up all your commons and supers, just to guarantee the chance that you'll find a ticket to level up the item you want!

This game should have been like SKY where the micro-transactions aren’t the main point to progress, it’s purely for the cosmetics: capes, hats, outfits and so on. Yet they don’t shove it down your face, you can check the shoppping section when you want, not when the creators want.
Here, MKT felt like Crash on the Run, the latter either oblige you to spend your money on cosmetics, crystals, ingredients and weapons to progress, Super Mario Run did that, paying to get the 6 levels in their full versions.

I find this game still fun. I have not spent any money at all on the game (except the Gold Pass two-week free trial) and I am still doing well. Also, the most spiny shells I have seen in a race (not counting the frenzy) is 2. Very nice review!!

Honestly, I’m glad they have some characters they didn’t add in MK8DL they have costumes, exclusive characters like kamek, Pauline, funky Kong and birdetta, not to mention the new backgrounds are pretty cool

really love the fact that special items returned, I so want them in the next mainline MK game, plus all the classic karts n tracks they added in. But, just with tour I can't get as much joy as I do with the others, with the controls that we have to use (Which I find really annoying at times) and the fact there is an auto-steer feature in the game which really puts me off (that is even if u turn all the assists off), I know why it is there n it needs to be, but it aint no mario kart without you falling off rainbow road 600 times haha.

I was in the beta and since then haven't stopped playing XD. Also, a good score doesn't require a 3 slot character, just something decent in 2 slot (or a character with coin box) which can get you 13k upwards pretty easily. Side note, I haven't payed anything on this game, it's just about playing enough (you get rubies from your rank too, so once you're up in the ranks theres no point to buying rubies anyways.)
Agreed while it may not be the best in terms of accessibility and the fact that you can't get your favorite driver right away, all if not some updates do keep things interesting as most may know we almost got a heart system that will not do anyone favors but turns out in the official release it's not the case here...
I'll take limited coins and Exp. over ❤ any day.

Rob's not a Mario character, and personally I don't want to see any crossover characters in tour otherwise it would be SMASH OR NINTENDO KART. So really the only Mario veterans left are Petey piranha, Paratroopa, Honey Queen, and Wiggler. Tanooki Mario is guaranteed to come back because of Cat Peach.

There are some things on MKT i dislike: too agressive bots, controls are not good, and battle mode is stale because no new battle tracks since november 2022. But it is an ok game, no more parasitic gacha, lots of drivers, karts, gliders, tracks.

Looking at Mario Kart Tour now, I'd say "ehh".
I'm always up for multiplayer, but other than that, it just sits there.
This does give me high hopes for Mario Kart: Ultimate.
Mario Kart on phone doesn't make any sense to me honestly, neither does Super Mario (Super Mario Run). Microtransactions aside, it just doesn't translate that well. Now Mario Party would PERFECTLY translate into phone gaming as it mainly consists of mini-games.
I think my main problem with Mario Kart Tour is just the awful mobile game monetization. Then again, is that really Tour's fault when stuff like that is normalized and seemingly accepted in the mobile market?
My other problem, and this is just down to jealousy, is why does Tour get so many amazing characters (Birdo, Funky Kong, Pauline, ect), but not the main console game? I'm sure people would be happy to pay for DLC that adds new characters.
Now my question remains: *Why can't these new outfits and tracks come to Mario Kart 8 DELUXE?!*
Even I would to know why they didn't add them, I mean link has two skins, why the other characters couldn't receive also these skins, I hope they put it in a hypothetical mk9, for now you can put them through mods only

I am F2P the whole time, I don't think I'm that behind. Yes you won't get in the higher tiers but the ruby rewards aren't that much better. If you drop a tier one week, you have a better chance the next week.
