  • It is Summer 1992 and i'm in the North East chasing locomotive hauled trains. At lunch time i stopped off at Newcastle-Upon-Tyne to see what was going on, and i wasn't disappointed with waht i found! Plenty of freight action with 37s & 56s plus some parcels action with a nice red 08 and a 47, while on the passenger front we see a just named 91 014 'Northern Electric' running loco first towards Kings Cross plus a Great Western liveried class 142 Pacer. If you liked the video please subscribe to my channel, there are lots more transport & quirky vids to upload!

Thanks for all the excellent videos; especially this one though. This is how I remember Central Station as a small child growing up in Tyneside (I was 5 or 6 when this was filmed). I have a very clear memory of seeing the red 08 on the TPO stock passing Chillingham Road Metro around this time. Now I know it was 08888! Scenes like this formed the basis of my love of railways now.. the traction and liveries still have a surprisingly evocative effect on me!

I'm pleased you like it, i had a short holiday at a friends mother house in Hartlepool. He had a car so we travelled around the North East a fair bit. have you seen my other Newcastle upload from 1989? See it here th-cam.com/video/Dk_pM-9-uro/w-d-xo.html

47628 in Mainline livery was ex "Sir daniel Gooch" in GWR 150 green from 1985. It carries the green livery on my layout. And the shunter was named "Postmans Pride" at Newcastle Central in 1990, as part of a twinning of the BR Parcels sector, and the Royal Mail. The red livery was the first version of Parcels livery for shunters.
08888 was named by a postman at Newcastle Central, the postie being the man who suggested the name in a competition run by the Royal Mail! The graffiti was not part of the livery!

Thanks for the info.... I forgot 628 was ex GWR green. I saw all the GWR green locos at the Old Oak open day in 1985, as seen here th-cam.com/video/Fc5rhEflhLM/w-d-xo.html

Once again, some great footage. The scary bit is that this is over 30 years ago now……

Nice selection, and some great shots too. I returned to Birmingham in 91 have lived in Newton Aycliffe for 10 years. Seeing the 92 reminded me that we called the 90's Skoda's, and the DVT's Skoda Estates. Wonder what the Geordies called theirs, lol ??

It's nice seing British reight locomotives at work. Pretty certain that the 91 and stock heading south was the wrong way around.

Yes, it was! The loco was at the London end. It had something to do with the fact it had just been named at a ceremony at Newcastle this very day!

47628 again. 91014 looking brand new; electrical services must have only just started then?

I think they had started in 1991 but 014 was named this very morning! And the stock was the wrong way around with the loco leading Up road to London!
