  • It's early April 1991 and i'm having a pad around central London terminals. At King's Cross there is plenty of interest to see, the highlight being a class 91 blunt end first arriving with a MkII charter set of coaches. Plenty of Valenta powered Inter-City 125's, 91's in their original livery, a couple of NSE class 317 EMU's and class 47 hauled parcels and charter workings. If you liked the video please subscribe to my channel, there are lots more transport & quirky vids to upload!

    Another trip along memory lane…… The Inter City ‘Swallow’ livery is one of my favourites. Thks for sharing.

    Good video. Great to see the clagging HST power cars and hear the distinctive noise of the 91's. Who needs Azumas? The mk3 and 4 coaches on the ECML have carried a few liveries, but the Swallow Inter City livery will always be my favourite. Looks so smart.

      Thank you..... I always liked the HST's in their original 'Flying Banana' livery, having first seen one in early 1976.....

    Great vid. Despite a trainspotter's paradise now, perhaps 'they' should've left BR alone, especially since it was on the cusp of making a net profit. The fares would probably be a lot lower today as well.

      True, but then just look at the state of the tracks, the platforms, and the train roof at Kings X back then. Compared with the gleaming station of today, there really is no comparison. Despite the high train fares now, there is abit more pride in trains and stations in general, than there was back in the 1980's.
      I don't get this nostalgia for 'grimy' looking trains and gritty looking platforms and buildings. Don't get me wrong - I love old trains, but they don't have to look knackered and dirty.
      It just shows a lack of pride and care for the railways. It's a sharp reminder that our railways during the 70's and 80's really were in a right state - grotty sums it up. We're it not for the 125, our railways in the 80's would have been total xxxx basically.

      Thank you..... even these scenes aren't the ones i rememeber train spotting at King's Cross as a child..... Lots of Deltics back then, and DMU's, with the wires only just starting to go up......

    Possibly the MK2 set was one of the Peterborough / Grantham commuter sets? I think they still just about ran at that time

      It was a charter ECS move, it left with a class 47/8 at the head..... Unusual working for a weekday.....

    Really enjoying your old video footage best era so much going on variety of locomotives the class 91 that pulled in with no DVT on the end was that normal formation back then ?

    • @SoiBuakhaoRoutemasterbus
      @SoiBuakhaoRoutemasterbus  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thank you..... The 91 was on empty coaching stock for a charter service. At the time only the Leeds services were electric hauled, it would be later in the year before trains to Scotland went electric, but a lot of 91s had been delivered so were put to any use to keep them working and not sit around getting damp!

      Yes, there were two diagrams morning & afternoon commuter trains then like this, one doubled back again and formed the 20:45 Kx-York later. Part of the course in the early 90s. 17:36 K-P 1P26 and 18:03 K-DR

    5:00 Why is that Class 91 at the Rear? Is it because He has No DVT Partner to Lead the Train?

      No so, the original plan was for the 91s to work sleeper trains that used to run on the East Coast line. They were 'temporarily' moved to Euston and the West Coast route and never came back...... So the 91s stayed coupled up to MkIV stock all the time......
