To give a better understanding. This is for external USB storage to be able to play PS4 games. This is supported at launch for the PS5 via this link.
    www.playstation.com/en-us/support/hardware/ps5-extended-storage/
What is not supported yet is expanding internal storage via PCIe SSD which supports PS5 games (and PS4) there is no update for this feature yet which will come down later.

@@FezCaliph Yep Just had it happen to me but with the actual WD Black 2TB that you plug into the PS5. I thought it was the PS5 at first. Thankfully had warranty on it, swapped it. Booted up my new PS5 with the that WD stick plugged. Noticed during initial boot up it doesn't give me an option to format. So I removed it, installed again. Once I booted it up this time, it gave the black screen of death just like my previous PS5. At that point I knew, it wasnt the PS5. I took out the dam 2TB WD stick, PS5 booted up just fine. RiP all my saved games on that.

I bought an eternal 2TB SSD and it was working great on PS5... Until yesterday! My PS5 was running very slow so I powered it off and on again to see if it would resolve the issue, It didn't and my PS5 refused to turn fully back on! Tried all the fixes in safe mode but nothing.. Ended up phoning Sony and told them my problems, They said it was the external SSD that was at fault and they are aware of the issues and hope to resolve in a future firmware update.. Had to do a factory reset with USB flash drive and thankfully PS5 is working again... But just putting this here that there are known problems with external SSD/HHD's.. Hope nobody else has the same issues as me.. and if they do this might help?

Hey man, great video. The guy at the retail store told me to be careful with the external HDD. I know it's only a small amount of cases compared to those who don't have this problem, but since there's a lack of consoles atm, I'm not going to risk this.
I've got a 4tb external HDD for my ps4 and it's got at least 2,5tb worth of games. I don't stick around 1 or 2 games and like to have a good variety. I hope Sony fixes this soon, and seeing the recent firmware update they are working hard on getting things right.

I've got two PS5's, one using an old Samsung T5 external USB SSD and the other using a newer Samsung T7 SSD drive. Haven't run into a single storage issue and I've had my drives connected permanently to both PS5s. I've put hundreds of hours into those consoles since launch, only issues I've had is crashing in Cyberpunk, but that's an issue with the game itself, nothing related to storage and all other PS4 games have been pretty solid off the external storage. I've also played a lot of Demon's Souls and MK11 (PS5 version), no issues to report with external storage connected while playing those games.

As for unfinished downloaded games, the simple fix was to start playing them. Once you exit, it showed 100% complete download. If you haven’t fixed it it yet, look up a video on how to reformat your external hard drive on a PC. Once you’ve successfully reformatted your hard drive on the PC and cleared its memory, plug it back into ur system and turn ur ps5 on. If the PS5 says it has to repair the external drive that’s fine. Let it do it thing. Go to your storage in ur settings, and first take a look at every game that can be moved from ur system storage to your external drive. If you had the same problem as me their should only be a few games that could be moved and they’ll all be ps5 games. Take a mental note or write down those games that CAN be moved to the drive, and instead of moving them, delete all the games that CANT be moved to your external drive. You’ll have redownload them for them to be successfully put back into your system and able to be put back on the drive. It sounds like a pain but it’s either that or go buy a new drive. Which we all know that $50 just isn’t worth. Which is why we’re here. Once all your games have been deleted your system should be back running smooth && all you’ll have to do it wait for games to redownload and it should work perfectly fine.

I've only had problems like that if I play games on the extended hard drive, but if you move the games you want to play into the console storage and play them on the console storage instead of the extended hard drive then you won't have any problems. the extended hard drive is like a library for your games for the ones you're not currently playing. at least that's what I understand of what GameStop has told me and from what I have learned from my PS5.

I have a problem with the extended storage but it doesn’t affect the console itself (it doesn’t shut off the system). What it does is it tells me that my external hard drive has not been disconnected properly even though I used the “safely remove from PS5” option. Though, I don’t think it’s my drive that’s causing the problem, because I used it on the PS4, had no problems, and the times that message popped up, I knew why it popped up, so no abnormality there, and also because I had started the PS5 up while it had the external storage still plugged in it, and about half an hour-45 minutes later I get that message. They should seriously fix this because they made the backwards compatibility an official feature at the PS5’s reveal event and because this piece of hardware is very powerful. I mean, it can process games very fast, it reduces loading times, it can run games at up to 120fps, have ray tracing and much more, but it can’t handle a puny 3.0 USB external hard drive with a storage space of 2-8TB. Come on Sony.

You have to change the settings in the PS5 system to keep the external ports powered when in sleep mode or else it turns the power off the USB ports after 3 hours ejecting your HDD, but to do that makes the cooling fan continue to run, even in sleep mode, actually it’s just better to eject the HDD and only connect it when you want to play a PS4 game.

Problem sees to be format of drive. Use options within Storage > USB Extended Storage (Format as Ex-Fat instead of USB Extended Storage) in order to back save games up via Settings > System Software > Backup. I have a Samsung DUO PLUS 256Go. It has dual connectors. It seemed only work via the front USB-C connector than the regular type A adapters on the back - neither of those seemed to recognise the drive. The OS solution however is dreadful. I just wanted to save/restore Demon Souls save data only. After restoring - the stupid OS re-installed the Demon Soul's game itself again. WTF! Reboots etc. Jesus it would be easier to start game over! The restore wipes the drive - so other games were lost too. So not intuitive. Supposed to be some way to do it via library too - but options weren't there for me. Had to get all the game updates downloaded again. Hence the reason they have you backup the games. That's something I won't be doing again for sure. If you do a selective backup. There should be the option for a selective restore. What a pile of poop!

So, what I have learned from all this is that: 1 since I cant play games I should try using a external storage to download and save my ps5 games and then try to play it? Right now I don’t have a external drive but some games work (2k21 Ps4 edition on PS5).
The clip you showed of Miles morales is what happened to me. Sony, while on the phone, told me they’re working on a patch but nothing about using the storage drive. ALSO they said to NEVER use safe mode #7 if you guys haven’t tried it..... Dont.
Weirdly enough now even astros playroom doesn’t work properly but some games are good. Apparently theres nothing wrong with the system but I have to wait for a patch. The last patch that came out did not fix the error that I keep receiving. Even after switching to Performance Mode, limited RGB, and putting it on -1 HDR transfer. (All recommended by Sony TECH support)
As of now I can ONLY play 2k21 (if it doesn’t randomly crash) andI haven’t tried anything else.
Is there a fix? Do I need a external TB of storage? Or do I Just wait for the patch? Cuz it seems like the prior patch fixed a lot of consoles that aren’t trying to use a drive but nothing for people without it. I’m not trying to download a bunch of games as of now, I just have 2 PS5 games that I want to play..... do I wait for a patch or is there a solution I may have missed (noting that this video came out two weeks ago) or do I just flip it to somebody that is willing to wait for a patch cuz the console is fine?

Yo is your Share Factory Studio also taking ~30GB storage after you run it just once?

    • @BWOne
      @BWOne  3 ปีที่แล้ว

Yeah if you open it once it does take a lot of space to start. Probably with all the assets it gives you.

I ended up bringing my external SSD. Got 5 games installed on external and then it simply doesn't recognize the SSD. Connected to my notebook/pc, external SSD is not being recognised now! Now I'll await a major patch and announcement on this issues before I plug-in new SSD. Damn!!

So the database issue is still not fixed? I bought a WD Black P50 1TB for my PS5 and then heared about this issue. So I am still waiting for the fix to come before using it. I am afraid of crashing my PS5. Good thing is I actually have enough internal space for my most important games. But how long will space be enough?

Do you have any info on spiderman miles morales or spiderman remastered having this issue? I was playing the ps4 version on my ps5 installed on the ssd of the ps5 and suddenly it crashed and gave me the “rebuilding storage database” or something and after starting the game again the game was all buggy. So i didn’t even play it anymore on ps5. Has to bust out my ps4 to hunt the remaining trophies

I’m having an issue stating commented wirelessly to the internet when I have the external HDD connected. First 5 days I had console it worked flawless with my Ps4 games running off internal storage but today I put some Ps4 game onto an external hdd and the console will intermittently disconnect from the internet and not reconnect? Hope Sony patches this problem soon

Have had this issue many times and the last time, it actually made my external hard drive unusable. I can't even format it from my pc. It's a 4TB hard drive so I'm quite mad that this issue has now rendered it unusable. I'm afraid of getting a new one and have my money being wasted when the console destroys it. And now I've been trying to install a game, that was on that hard drive, directly on my console, but it won't let me. It asks me to uninstall it from that hard drive first but I can't. So now I can never play the game again. What the hell sony.

Having exact same issue. Seagate harddrive left unusable not even recognised on my laptop. Tried play Witcher GOTY edition and it told me to delete it first (which majority of games I had on the storage would do when I try play them but selecting view product would give me a work around) only Witcher GOTY requires me to buy it again.

it is 18th march 2022, and i am on the latest ps5 firmware and this issue STILL isnt fixed. plugging in my ps4 external storage crashes my ps5 and completely shuts it off within a few seconds EACH AND EVERY TIME 😡😡

Same problem with my PS4. It's very disappointing and stressful. I spent a whole day trying different ways to fix it but i quit. i think and hope is the external hard drive and not the console because i will try to buy a new storage hard drive to make sure is not the console.

So idk if anyone got this but, literally two days after I got my ps5, I plugged in my seagate 2 tb hard drive. Now idk wtf happen to it but now when I boot up my console, it says repair usb drive. Did it every time, and then I had like 9 of my games that were disc that cannot download or copy. I can’t play none of my PS4 games until I get a ssd and reinstall all of em or just uninstall it and reinstall them on my system storage. Anything weird with this?
Forgot to mention, the external HDD had no problems before, (unless lets say the console froze on my PS4 or something). I’m waiting for an ssd update to come out so I can order a 2 or more tb ssd right away.

Try Avolusion PRO-Z Series 8TB USB 3.0 External Drive, it's preformated already, basically plug and play, no issues at all, they're available on Amazon
