Hello! I’m really glad you liked my video, at the moment ps5 cannot launch ps5 games from external ssd, you can just move ps5 games back and forth from internal to external and that way you can free up some space for new games, the big issue is that PS5 is not transferring the data at the supposed speed, its way way slow, because of that some ultra fast SSD are just useless. If you are looking for massive storage space and don’t mind some noise from mechanical drives and the space needed you can go all the way with a WD D10 game drive 8TB (shop.westerndigital.com/en-au/products/external-drives/wd-black-d10-game-drive-usb-3-2-hdd#WDBA3P0080HBK-SESN). I am preparing a more friendlier video with 6 different drives for the next two days, this will be awesome for you and you you get the info you need to make your decision. Have a great day
I plan on getting the Samsung T5 for both ps4 and ps5 games. My question is, when I move a Ps5 game with large memory to T5, is it faster than re downloading when I want it back on internal memory to play?
Yes, it is faster, the maximum speed you can get downloading is in theory 1Gbps which is 125MB/s but I have 1000/1000 internet connection and I have never seen to achieve this max speed always is way lower, using the SSD will be over those 125MB/s

Do you have a recommendation for PS4 Pro? I want the fasting external hardrive possible for it with the most space. I don't know if an external SSD would make a difference or not when it comes to speed. I've been in the market for one and I got this video recommended to me. I trust that you're knowledgeable on the subject based on what I watched here.
I used a Seagate 4TB external game drive, mechanical, the big kind, and funny thing is, when I use it with my ps5 I actually get noticably better speeds. For example Kingdoms of Amlur, which can be slow to the point of infuriating, was a lot better. I now also removed the internal ps4pro hdd because broke, I then realized my heat problems with the ps4pro came from that drive, as sticking and old 320gb laptop drive in there made it stop sounding like a jet engine. Looking further at the preinstalled drive, a Toshiba MQ01, it is a very slow drive with a rating of 700ish I think it was on passmark, I'm now going to replace it with the crucial bx500 ssd, which is very cheap, but not that good, but still has a rating that is soaring above the toshiba so it will be interesting to see (and hear) the difference.
@@SP-pw7jc Sorry mate, I misunderstood your question, while you can copy the files you cannot play the games because you need the key of those games to be validated (key is in the disc)
I know I'm late and all but the new internal storage ssd slot is live and ready to use. from the looks of it, Sony is trying to phase out external storage completely. So before I go and waste my money on a "faster extrenal ssd" can you actually play the games straight from the external storage? Every artical and every thread I have read say "no", but why is that when you clearly just showed us that the external ssd can match or even over do it on game download, transfer, and move speeds?
The external ssd will via usb will only allow PS4 games to start directly from. PS5 Games need to be transferred or - in the future - be installed on the extra ssd-slot in the console.
Hey Lucho!, thanks for commenting, I am preparing a new video with six top notch drives I will publish it this Saturday, this one it will come with all the links for the benchmarked drives! stay tuned.
Can you please clarify which drive to buy. I want to spend the appropriate amount of money without over doing it and having the biggest amount of storage. I’m not computer savvy so I don’t get much of the technical stuff or where to shop for which model
If you want to play PS5 games you need to buy and install an internal NVME drive, if you want it just for ps4 games go with the cheapest USB 3.0 hdd you can find.
@@method_serge I was hoping an external drive would help me with storage so that I don’t keep running out of hard drive space. I don’t know how to take apart a game system to swap out a HD. Then Is it plug and play or do I need to download drivers etc?
If you want to play PS5 games directly from the drive the only way is NVME, if you want it just for storage go for the cheapest USB 3.0, you cannot play PS5 games from USB but you can transfer your PS5 games from internal memory to external (USB) to make more room for other PS5 games, then you can transfer back the PS5 games to internal memory and play them from them.
I haven't done it because the right choice with XSX and XSS it to get a Seagate Storage Expansion Card, those ones offer comparable speeds with the consoles' internal SSD and allows to run all type of games, but its a good idea to measure the speed of the XSX USB ports, I will check it today and probably launch a video about it, Ill tag you once its done.
Do ps4 games load just as quick on the t5 as they do on the Ps5 internal? I don't mind using it just for my ps4 titles but not if I lose the loading speeds I get from the Ps5 ssd.
@@method_serge you need to make sure to state whether the game is PS4 version or PS5 version, PS5 version of game only works from internal SSD, PS4 version can work from either external or internal SSD.
Good advise, it is worth to state it, while I think everyone knows that PS5 games cannot be launched from external some people could ignore that. Thanks

Thanks for this recommendation. I just ordered the T5. Which port should i use for it, the usb c in the front or the ports at the back? Thanks.
You can use the TYPE C one in the front or the type A (any) in the back, you will get the same speeds, I prefer the ports in the back of the console
@@method_serge thankyou. I prefer the back ones too coz it looks more tidy and neat rather than having something plugged in on the front all the time lol. Thanks for the response!
Exactly the same here!
How are the loading times on the WD D10 8tb? Are they similar to the T5?
I wish this would’ve used CoD MW 2019 that has over 100GB to transfer and see how fast
So good. No bs right to thr facts. T7 for me
Do you have a recommendation for PS4 Pro? I want the fasting external hardrive possible for it with the most space. I don't know if an external SSD would make a difference or not when it comes to speed. I've been in the market for one and I got this video recommended to me. I trust that you're knowledgeable on the subject based on what I watched here.
Hey mate! Any usb 3.0 hard drive is enough for ps4 pro, to not spend in any expensive drives, you are not going to see any difference at all.
@@method_serge That was so quick! Thank you so much for this advice. I really appreciate the help because... I didn't want to waste any money!
Happy to help mate
Hey bro, can copy game files (I copied disc games into external SSD) from external SSD to ps5 digital? And also can it play? Please tell me.
Yes you can move files from external to PS5 but you cannot play games stored in external devices, just move the data
@@method_serge Thank you, bro. So quickly replied. I appreciate it. 👍
Your welcome mate
Bro, can you do a video for it?
@@SP-pw7jc Sorry mate, I misunderstood your question, while you can copy the files you cannot play the games because you need the key of those games to be validated (key is in the disc)
Nintendo game sounds to explain a ps5 love it
I see you are a man of culture!
Yes I think you can if your talking about the M.2 ssd or external ssd for the ps5
External hard drive or external SSD can play PS4 games so if you want to play those it can be useful.
You can't run the games from the external from what Sony has said. You have to transfer back to ps5 in order to play
The external ssd will via usb will only allow PS4 games to start directly from. PS5 Games need to be transferred or - in the future - be installed on the extra ssd-slot in the console.
Correct
Hi, do you have links (amazon, Best Buy, target, etc) to buy the suggested SSD? thanks for the vid, straight and accurate info.

@@method_serge yes I have the ps5 but I play both games on that system
If you want to play PS5 games directly from the drive the only way is NVME, if you want it just for storage go for the cheapest USB 3.0, you cannot play PS5 games from USB but you can transfer your PS5 games from internal memory to external (USB) to make more room for other PS5 games, then you can transfer back the PS5 games to internal memory and play them from them.
@@method_serge aha okay thank you I get it. I see the prices for the internal drives are a few hundred for each TB of memory
Can you do the same video for the series X,I would like to know if works the same as PS5
@@method_serge thanks,I will use that usb ssd for backwards compatible games
im using the 870 evo sata as external and it loads my games fast not really worried about transfer speeds
the test of that video, was it recorded before or after the last update?
Hey Edwin, this was done after the update.
Ok thanks!! 🙏
Do ps4 games load just as quick on the t5 as they do on the Ps5 internal? I don't mind using it just for my ps4 titles but not if I lose the loading speeds I get from the Ps5 ssd.
Barely no difference at all.
Thanks
Could you test the 12tb storage external drive?
How about a refurbished ps4 seagate 2TB hard drive?
Deserve a sub and like
Thanks mate!
Does the ps5 even support external ssd’s? I thought that was one of its current downsides
It supports external ssd on USB, just to play ps4 games or to transfer/store ps5 games
Correct, you cannot play ps5 games from the external
@@glenmcl what do you need to get to increase storage so i can actually play those games?
Thanks lol I have a 2000MBps Sandisk I guess I don’t need to use on my ps5 lol
An external drive is HDD (Hard Disc Drive)
An internal drive is SSD (Solid State Drive)
You need to redo your video and clearly explain this.
Thank you, just making sure that I should buy 3.0 not the others at the moment’s?
Hello. yes with 3.0 you will be fine, the theoretical transfer speed of USB 3.0 is 4.8 Gbit/s so you are good to go with that speed
Hey, check my new video, this one with help you a lot! th-cam.com/video/IF6J5QrxT1I/w-d-xo.html
Is the limit cap still there even on the latest firmware?
it's look like the writing speed on ps5 ssd was limited for fit in the bottleneck of speed that game can be downloader from ethernet 1gbps ( 125 mB / S) they use low writing cell for cheaper price
You are right sir, and if this is true there no way an update can fix this.
@@method_serge probably , high speed for read , but bootleneck by usb 2.5 gbps , but for writing is not bootlenneck not by usb bcuz it's still lower than usb for external in opposite way , and the bootelneck is on the writing speed ,in this case
Thinking to get a flash storage USB 3.1, is there any you would recommend ?
Hey mate, go with a WD black D10, its the best one.
Can you play ps5 games from the external hard drive if it's an SSD?
No, Sony its not allowing to play PS5 games from external devices, even if they are SSDs, only from internal storage.
No but you can transfer PS5 games to External storage and back to storage instead of downloading again
@@Wowimhungry9 exactly
Wait so the T7 is not a good choice?
I thought games cannot be loaded Directly from an external ssd on a ps5
