Fourteen years later and still helping out. The broom handle idea proved vital. I had a 900 lb safe delivered and had the guy put the pallet exactly where I wanted the safe. Problem was that when I moved off the pallet, it was now about two feet off center. The broom stick - black pipe in my case - made it so much easier to shift the safe back to center. Thanks much.
My 115lb wife and I just removed our 1,100 pound, fire-lined, model 3627 from the shipping pallet, by ourselves, using this method. Not easy, but totally doable, if you're careful!
I remember learning this as a lesson on how not to move a safe off a pellet onto a polished marble entryway of a $3M Florida mansion back in 1979. The memory still haunts me of how that fire safe, built like a five drawer file cabinet, slid off the pallet just like 4:15 and gouged or took a big chip out of the Bracia Italian Imported Marble floor. I know your floor in the shop is just concrete but it seems like you left evidence of your lesson/technique on your shop floor. That's to be avoided, no?
@@MeganPlays To answer your question, any forethought or preparation for what could happen would have saved the damage that was done when that safe moved on it's own due to gravity. A furniture pad would have done the job and saved thousands of dollars in damage. There were six guys there and anyone of them could have said, "let's put a pad under this corner". It would have been another normal day.
@@lovebug8482, It is best when you can use a low trailer or even a tip bed and then wench it up onto the trailer. You can tip something heavy like a safe onto the bed of the trailer (with something soft to cushion the safe). Then a couple of guys can lift the bottom of the safe and slide it onto the trailer bed.
If you don't have broom handles, you can also use copper water pipe, or electrical conduit. I've moved safes with both, and the more pieces of pipe you have the quicker you can move it from place to place on a hard, flat surface.
how do you do this with a safe that doesn't have nearly as high a center of gravity, what if the safe is say 2 feet wide and 2 and a half feet high, and it weighs 1200 pounds how do i rock this safe forward and backward ??
@mattgeb84 We only make safes 5ft or taller (that balance very well), so it would be best to ask a manufacturer who makes small, heavy safes, that question for the best response.
Hey youngsters, you can learn a lot of practical/useful stuff from old guys...pay attention. A couple broom handles and a little 'Indian trick'; who-da-thunkit. Good video.
...when I saw BIG ...Heavy...safe...I was thinking more like 18,000 pounds.....and you'll be using the solid steel roller rods....and....always keep 4-5 rollers under there...still just a 2 man job for experienced dudes...

I just bought a safe and your tactic with the broom handle is ingenious. Goes back to the time of the Egyptian pyramids. 👍🏻
Thank you, Elissa and the two assistants. You Rock!!!

@@millertime9863 Not my hone bra. I was 17 and just moving furniture. If you were even alive in '79 you sure seem to have grown up to be a douchebag.
Maybe a moving blanket or padding for the corners?

If you need more leverage you can use ratchet straps and 2x4's to make it artificially taller
I've used pipes under heavy equipment to move them. It's amazing how easy it is.
But how would you get a safe from the safe to a car trunk or in a truck...a ramp?

Would love to see the method to move an ACTUALLY heavy safe. Like a TL30x6 that size.
same method stronger people
Yeah, heavey duty pallet...thats why its 1/2 inch plywood on 2x4s..is this the Moe and Curly method?
Thanks for making and posting this video! It contains some very useful information for maneuvering my 450lb safe.
this is great and helpful, thank you! what kind of rollers should you use?
Need to plan floor protection even someone's old drive is a pride an joy. Also a strap or tie 8 inches from top would give you some more control.
I got quite confused by the video. Would it be possible to send the female assistant over to clear up some things?
Nice video. probably how the ancients moved those blocks used to build their pyramids.
Thanks for the tip!
Do you have any suggestions for getting a safe from the garage floor up a 4 inch threshold?
same basic principal. tilt and slide and strong people lol
Great video Terry thansk for this info

nevermind that the floor just got wrecked
it looks to me like the second safe took a chunk out of the concrete.
Can someone fill me as to what happened after the brunette walked into frame?

What size is the first one? The 27 or 32 inch wide?
Not heavy enough, I need to know how to move a 4000lbs safe
Thanks great vid I have to move a large safe off a pallet
That is a light weight safe as safes go. Don't try that with a TRTL30X6 Jewelry safe you might get killed.
Showed me how to move a vending machine off a skid. Thanks!
Damn. That train sounded close!
😂 Sir, you can move a 350 Kg safe with your hands? 🙈 😳
You must be Superman
we broke out tiles now no use of watching this video but still i searched for this video after finishing job... don't know why ? 🤦🏼😂
You got nothing to grab on. I would strap it to a handtruck just to have a handle.
why not use 3 or 4 pieces of broom handle?
TRAIN HORN SOUNDS LIKE THE ONE ON BIG 'BLOWN HOTROD 67 C10 Hotrod!! Hee Hee!!!
Allysa's a fox, more videos of her please. xP

18,000 pounds? Yeah, well, you’re stupid!
Should have watched this first.... lets just say .. .had an accident... ( and survived it)
Too fkin dangerous.
I really like the Woodglut plans.
Larry more and curley
cute brunette!
I've got a 5570 lb safe I was hoping to move. These guys don't know what a heavy safe is. :(
Yeah. I have a 1500lb gun safe and i got one that is about half the size as weighs nearly 4,000lbs.
Thats very light safe. Show us moving 3 ton safe
