    Fun fact.
    After 9/11, swiss army knife sales significantly dropped, because a substantial portion of their products were sold as souvenirs in airports' duty free shops globally.
    Instead of laying off the employees, they were outsourced to other companies until Victorinox stabilised within the market.
    That's some serious worker solidarity.

      Yup I remember the documentary, they expanded and started selling kitchen utensils, watches, suitcases and a bunch of other stuff to have more diversity and it saved them.

      They also bought Wenger and kept all of thier workers on. They even kept some of thier SAK designs. (This being one of them). Those designs are now stamped "Delemont collection" which can be seen on the base of blade of the knife in this video. Great company for sure.

    Fine review. I have two Victorinox's - both Swiss made, saw blade and two straight blades. It's too bad that the knife laws are so draconian in the UK. Missing out on some outstanding gear. Ironically, English made knives (Sheffield) sell for premium prices here in the States, Sheffield British Army pocket knife (sheeps foot blade, bottle/can opener, and marlin spike) $75 US - when you can find one. Very much enjoying your channel.

      Hey Barone! Yes sir, I do agree about the draconian knife laws here! Knife crime is a big thing here, they put these laws in place but it’s not going to stop these youngsters going into a kitchen and grabbing a kitchen knife. I remember a couple of years back I was on my way to work, it was about 4:30am in a town centre. There was nobody about until I walked past this multi-storey car park and this guy on a bicycle came out and started following me, I’m listening and I’m aware he’s getting closer so I stop and he stops. I continue and he continues, I turn around and he rides away but here’s the thing, if this guy had a knife on him, I’d be done for if he carried out anything sinister. But the law dictates that if I was to carry a blade for my own defence, I would be criminalised. And as you rightly said, there’s some awesome gear out there! I just checked out the Sheffield British Army Knife, if I manage to get my hands on one, I’ll send it out to you brother because $75 is pretty steep!

      @@TreeDeepOutdoors I can understand the motivation behind the laws. But as you and rest of us know, laws only apply to the law abiding citizens of both our countries. The criminal element & juvenile miscreants don't care about the laws. Productive citizens such as yourself are denied the ability to protect yourselves and your families. No disrespect to Her Majesty, but if she could magically make every knife in the UK disappear, the dregs of society would almost immediately find another instrument to mis-use. Nonetheless, good and law abiding citizens should be able to have some means of protecting themselves and their families. Stay safe buddy !

    I really like my Ranger Grip. First disliked the “liner lock”. Knowing this wasn’t the proper unlock I begun looking and found the button. LoL. I don’t beat mine, its for fine work mostly. I use the saw breaking down thicker limbs for fires quite a bit. Great unit all around. Like to get a belt sheath for mine.

    I have the same knife. A tip on the sawblades' snapback danger zone.
    I hold it from the tip which is rounded, this gives me the ease to close it all the way down manually without having to let go of the saw slamming down. Even if I let it go, or the blade slips my fingers, they are well clear the turning radius of the blade, and it won't catch anything on the way down

    4:07 Great review, but I can't say I loved being violently assaulted at the end of the video 😉
    I got the serrated version recently, the 179, which I like to pair with a different straight-edge knife. Phenomenal wood saw, and the main blade's locking system feels really nice to operate. Supposedly these are getting discontinued at the end of 2023 so I'm glad to have picked one up while they're still available.

    • @Vpentrov

      @@Vpentrov Wise choice, these 130mm models are awesome and there's really nothing else that quite compares that's available on the market.
      Super comfortable to use, and the wood saw is ridiculously long for a multi-tool.
      The slightly shorter 111mm models that are still in production are really awkward to close because they have a lefty style backwards liner lock, but the lock is also so far to the right that a lefty would have trouble with it too. Plus the awl on those doesn't have a sewing eyelet for some reason. Don't get me wrong, I like the 111mm models, but these 130mm ones are really something special.

    Hi, I like your review. I have a number of Victorinox penknives, a hunter one of which dates back to 1974...my second year in work. And a Spirit X. This is better than the Leatherman Surge. I give this a real thought... cheers.

    I got one like this and it arrived with the main blade super sharp---- mine has only a soul and a curved rippping blade for opening boxes. It is a true SAK and marked that way with a great grip and very functional nice size blade.

    • @CharlesHarpolek4vud
      @CharlesHarpolek4vud 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      o I think it would help SAK sales if they offered their line with a longer blade----- everybody probably already has the little dinky ones. So like me they may want more blade.

    My 79 isn't my favorite multitool, but I never go camping without it. It's certainly not the best outdoor tool ever made, but tell me about another tool with this much capability that you can get for about $70. Take all the time you need.

  • @trailman20
    @trailman20 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    It's a good knife can't contain at all although I can tell you as fact the saw is only approximately only one inch larger than any 91 mm saw yes my measurement is where the teeth stop not just the length over all ( which I can't lie does make a good difference with some materials) but I can also say the saw is thicker! So for some people and some cases that could be better but for me I notice I saw just as quick and as good with my 91 mm sak the ranger grip is more stout and maybe that's what you would like if you have found issues with the smaller models .. I can also tell you the not over all length but the sharpened edge of the knife blade is infact only at best an inch longer aswell ..the blade is longer ! But the first half inch or so isn't sharpened! .. the screw all other functions are great as you would expect .. the knife is thicker the saw is thicker but the point where the knife joins the pin to hole it isn't hardly any wider at all ... That being said yes it is a more stout knife BUT personally if ya just want a more stout sak I would go with the farmer x I had and tested to as I bought them as gifts for others wanted to make sure they was great and they was .. But if you are absolutely set on having a longer saw ( which is great it is but it ain't much longer) I'd just go with any other 91 mm or the farmer x ... In addition I can say I find it much easier to force through wood with my 91 mm I have had my ranger grip 98 for a few years. Ow and every time I bring it out I kinda Wich i just took my 91 with me the thicker blade bakes it harder to cut through things ( but it is far tougher ) ...only case I can say the ranger grip 79 shined for me and I keep it razor sharp was doing our a deer! It did great! And I mean great it really shined especially when it come to the saw cutting the pelvic bone clear .. and it skun like a pro it really did so if you want it as a back up hunting knife yep ! Maybe this one is for you .. it's a good knife but for me in most cases meh I'll take my 91mm most every time

    It really depends on your skill set and what ya can do with you imagination for me I'm very very happy with my 91 mm handyman.. love my larger ranger grip I do but it just doesn't do it for me in slicing things and other tasks ..it does do it and do it well but just not as well because it's thicker ..that locking blade though!! Yeah kind hard to argue that one

    I agree with your observations. I'll add that the spine on the saw is excellent for getting really good sparks from a ferro rod.
    The only thing I don't like about Victorinox is their customer service. One time I needed to send a knife in for a repair that was due to faulty materials.
    That one experience was bad enough that my family discussed it and said, that's the last Victorinox we're going to buy.
    The knife itself is a 10/10. Customer service is a 0/10
