    Wenger and Victorinox have been building knives since 1893 , or somewhere close to that. I think they know what they are doing 👍

    You CAN still score another 5-6 mm by sharpening up to just before where that nick would be. Just put some sharpie on the blade, and close it a few times. It will leave a mark where it hits the internal bump. Just go to next to that mark, and you're OK. Checked it, did it, and it works fine.

I’m so glad that you guys did it seven years ago. there’s an ironic comment to be made about him being a tool.

    1- I have a Ranger Wood 55 and a Ranger Grip X and I was going to sharpen those parts of the blades right today. I watched this video right now randomly and you saved me a lot of time and effort not doing so. Thank you millions for that.
    2- The wooden version doesn’t flex. Scales are walnut I guess.
    3- That flexibility in your knife shouldn’t bother you at all because in never affects its function nor anything wrong happens.
    4- You may love Hunter Pro.
    5- About being wrong design that we cannot sharpen the whole length of our blades, I’m totally with you. That’s really stupid.

    My daily carry was one of the versions of the SAK Officer Suisse. I wanted the one-handed use and bought a Trekker and it has the serrated edge. I don't prefer the serrated edge, but I continued to carry the Officer Suisse in the other pocket, so the serrated edge was on the Trekker was no issue. As time passed, I ended up occasionally using the serrated edge for jobs that would have been tougher with the straight edge.
    Yesterday I cut out a section of sidewall from a tire and used that rubber to repair a worn shoe heel. And the serrated edge was great for that. I am happy I had the serrated edge when I need it. I don't feel burdened carrying 2 knives. I also switched from carrying the Officer Suisse to a non-SAK assisted opening knife and I use that for most of my normal cutting, but it was not working well on the tire sidewall, so I went to the serrated edge on the Trekker.
    As you mentioned everyone needs to decide what advice is best for them to follow or not.

    About the Victorinox warranty... You'll void the warranty by modifying the knife. However, it's up for debate whether sharpening the entire blade should be considered a modification. I think it is, but what do I know?

    • @kevola5739
      @kevola5739 ปีที่แล้ว

      Spartan John showed what and why he modified his blade for his needs. This guy is condescending to Victorinox and Spartan John and accepts no responsibility for his own actions. His justification is “I don’t care what you think” to absolve himself of narrow minded thinking. You can point out a flaw in a modification but there is no need to throw everyone under the bus like there was a diabolical plot involved.

    Good advice. Thank you for sharing your thoughts. I looked at the Ranger Grip 78 as an upgrade from the Trekker. I did not like the blade configuration at all and I thought that the advice to sharpen it all the way would inherently weaken the blade. So, I did not purchase the 78 and I kept my Trekker in my bag. You are correct to advise people to not sharpen the Ranger 78 to the hilt. But, it is my opinion that the reduced working edge of the 78 makes it no better than the Trekker; so why would you want one? My Trekker works just fine.

      @itsawonderfulknife7031 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Dialysisforever Why the hell would anybody want to get a knife that you can’t sharpen the entire blade? It’s like buying a Ferrari and having a salesman tell you, it’s great but don’t take it out of second gear. The Victorinox knives that he’s talking about here are not exactly cheap for some of us. It may serve some people well to treat it a little bit better than a throwaway pocket knife and have a completely functional and useful fully sharpened blade.

    • @dirtysouthbushcraftandmma9784
      @dirtysouthbushcraftandmma9784 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @Gray Au You shouldn't need a lock on your knife anyways, I would imagine most people who use Victorinox knives know how to use a knife, so the lock isn't much of an issue anyways, but their reverse liners are pretty solid.

    • @dirtysouthbushcraftandmma9784
      @dirtysouthbushcraftandmma9784 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @Gray Au One man's opinion I suppose. I usually only use a fixed blade Mora BC black or Garberg for my outdoor Bushcraft use, but I also usually pair it with a Victorinox one-handed Trekker which does have a lock on it or another model such as a farmer which does not. Blade locks don't usually make a difference to me because I know how to use a knife, but if you don't then you certainly should have a lock on your knife until you learn how to properly use the tool.

      I have yet to see anyone knowledgeable say that one or the other was overall better than the other. Both were official SAK'S, one was better at marketing after 9/11, and Victorinox was able to purchase the Wenger Deleemont factory and keep production going in their name.
