  • Servicing my KTM 1290 on its 15000k service alough it has only done 12000k, think 15000k is way too long between oil changes. By the way,, wouldnt start due to fuel line not on properly , then battery went flat ,,,, Quick charge and it was good as new

    Thanks for the video Dan. Very helpful. I had similar starting problems after putting everything back together. It was the fuel line clip (around 32:40). Easy to pull click apart with one hand but make sure you hear it click back into place (use both hands) when putting it back together. Also, the little hose on the back of the air cannister can stay in place (35:00) if you only lift off the front end of the box enough to replace the filter. KTM must have fielded some complaints about this design. The 2021 SAS air filter seems to be in basically the same location but you no longer have to remove the gas tank to get to it.

    Thanks for sharing, saved me breaking the fittings of most of the plastics. I needed to remove the tank to add the booster plug, I did decide to drain the fuel to make lifting the tank easier. 😀

    Many thanx for the time and effort in putting this online. My own 2019 SAS is out of warranty now so doing my own service in the next 2 weeks and was looking for a video in relation to the AIR FILTER. I am a little apprehensive about taking the tank off but I will try it and see how I go. Thanks again, safe riding......Regards From Ireland.

    Thanks for the wee video Jim. 15k is too much for me too. I’m going to put a booster plug on my SAS next week, so seeing how to get to the air box was very topical.

    Dan, thanks very much for your time and effort, filming your service. I’m about to service my SAS with a little over 9000 miles on it. My bike is now out of warranty and like you I’d rather service it myself just for peace of mind so I know exactly what parts are used and the satisfaction of knowing my bike is looked after properly. Your video is a huge help to me as I can get straight on with it now with out having to work out where bolts are or how panels come off, I’ll just refer to your tutorial, piece of cake. so once again thank you very much, cheers, Paul.

    Great video! Also think 15k is way too long an interval for an oil/oil filter change. The KTM dealers in my country jst refer to the factory whenever asked about the interval. With the help and inspiration from your highly instructional video I'll probably do an in-between oil/oil filter & air filter change myself from now in. :)

    • @biker_dan
      @biker_dan  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      That's a good idea. As a rule, I change mine when the oil starts to go black

    Lucky you change the filter in time before it fell apart.uni filter are rubbish junk

  • @Pauldh601
    @Pauldh601 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    There was a problem with the air box sealing with the standard filter in some models and there was something about the unifilter sealing ring which fixed the problem so your dealer probably fitted it for that reason.

    • @biker_dan
      @biker_dan  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I think even if there was they should have told me,, Uni filter is cheap foam that costs 16 dollars,, proper filter was what they charged me for at around 80 bucks,, However Im happy with K&N as it has made a vast improvement to the performance,,

    Hi, first I wanted to thank you for the great video you shared.
    I had a question about iridium candles:
    How do you know when they are no longer performing and therefore changed?

    • @biker_dan
      @biker_dan  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      These will do many km before they need changed, in a car they last around 100,000,. But on a bike I would change them sooner between 50 to 80.000k. You know when they need changed as performance is reduced, bad starting and possibly missfires.

    Thanks Dan. This is really useful. I also have a Garmin 346 that I want to fit to my SAS. I was going to use the ACC2 point behind the headlight but couldn't see a place to hide the transformer block. Where have you hidden yours? Does it fit behind the light? Thanks

    • @biker_dan
      @biker_dan  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      There is nothing behind the light. I slackened off the LCD screen and pulled out the AUX socket under it, there I was able to pull out the wires to hook the Garmin up to. Mine doesn't have a transformer block, it is just wires, however you might fit yours where the wires putt out, there may be enough room. No need to pull headlight out..

    These washable filters are not great for the engine, they loose filtering capabilities after multiple washes. I've seen ones which had see through holes and as a consequence - lower compression.

    The oil should be drained with the bike on the side stand not the centre stand.

    • @67daltonknox
      @67daltonknox ปีที่แล้ว

      The owner's manual says to drain the oil with the bike on the center stand. Presumably because the oil level is only accurate when it is on the center stand.

    When you spilt oil everywhere then dropped the oil filter cover in the oil 🥸 my KTM 1290 same year model when I changed the oil took almost the whole 4L bottle. And that air filter is not stock. Someone has changed that. And also those sock filter are not stock. Very weird if you bought it new?? The dealer was doing something funny on you?

    Bike on side stand when drain, engine warm before drain, oil filter filled up with oil before install. K&N filter should NOT force dry (hair drier or compressed air).
