    We used to drive over the border to the Netherlands a lot, when I was younger. We always came home, with lots of Vanille Vla … :-)

    Dutch applepie has strips of crust criss crossed on the top and is not covered all the way like most american pies. So this apple pie is the right one. Although it is right we eat them mostly cold, you and can and sometimes we will eat them warm aswel. It's a matter of perferance I guess and for this retaurant I think 'being different' from all de other applepies. There are a bunch of different recepies going round, but the basic is a thick crust with sweet and sour apples in the middle mixed with brown sugar, sinamon, raisins and dried currants sometimes you find different kinds of nuts aswel.

    Thank God I watch you guys late at night, other wise I would be on the hunt for apple pie with cream and a coffee myself.

    The place you were at (Dam's Square) at 4:13, that's called "kermis" (I can't come up with a word in English that sort of resembles the sound of the Dutch e in this word). Kermis is like a fair with all kinds of rides. I'm not sure about the one in Amsterdam, but the kermis in Purmerend (about 30 minutes up by bus from Amsterdam) that's held in May is 10 or 11 days long and is among the biggest fairs in the province of North-Holland. The song at 7:10 caught me by surprise a little, it's a remix of a song called "Ritme van de regen" ("Rhythm of the rain") by a Dutch singer called Rob de Nijs. The original song is from the 60's. From what I know it's not because of people falling into the waterways that they placed those spiral urinals (they are called a "plaskrul" in Dutch, which translates to something like "peeingspiral" or "peeingcurl"), because they have been there for ages. People also do not fall into the waterways because of low blood pressure, but simply because they are way to drunk to keep their balance while standing (or walking) next to the waterline (not necessarily while peeing). I lolled a little when you said you were trying to live as a local and used an iAmsterdam card :P.

      Kermis is a funfair or carnival. I think.

    Living like a local, by spending the whole day eating apple pie (which indeed is called appeltaart/apple tart in Dutch) and going to touristy cheese shops (you can tell by the individually packages cheeses and high prices). Well at least you tried I guess.

    The Mouse Mansion is so darn cute!!!
    As far as urinals go, I avoid them, even in restrooms. Just prefer doing my business behind closed doors lol

      RoadRage oh yes!! Great suggestion, not that many people coming as a tourists know about this Frisian attraction nor that there are more places to explore aside Zuid and Noord Holland provinces. Can you maybe share what's good up and coming for November and December? Anyplace in Netherlands. Thanks.

    Hey guys! I tried to buy a sweater on your online store but, it didnt accept any of the 5 cards i tried to pay it with.
    I dont know the reason, it only says: card decline or it doesnt support those sort of purchases.
    I would like to support your adventure through buying on your store a couple of things, but i just couldnt do it.

    • @WAYAWAYWithAsh
      @WAYAWAYWithAsh  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      I looked into it, and it seems like our CC processing doesn't like your cards. I am not sure why because we've shipped overseas before. As of right now we don't have another payment method but if we do I'll let you know! Thanks for trying to help!

    You didn't go to the place Bill Clinton eat his apple pie. The place is at the corner of Brouwersgracht and Prinsengracht and is named 't Papeneiland. So you have missed the best pie in town

    If you ever go to the Netherlands again, and not just to Amsterdam and the great metropolitan area, you should go to Limburg, a province close to Germany and Belgium. If you like pies, Limburg has the best cream and fruit pies. Moreover, Limburg (and the rest of the Netherlands) is quite nice too!

    I thought W's were pronounced as V's in Dutch, like Winkel would be "Vinkel"... Maybe I'm getting my Dutch and German confused? Haha 😅
    Anyways I can't believe I lived in the Netherlands for almost a year and never tried the dutch apple pie 😭😭😭

    • @annebellebosch1835
      @annebellebosch1835 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Uhh... No, we just pronounce winkel with a "w" sound, they pronounced it correctly.

      Not too far off with Vinkel, that means I can understand why you would have thought it would be that. Some Dutch words like Wringen or wrat would sound a lot like a V in English. But her pronounciation was correct in this case though.

    • @noamto
      @noamto 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      It depends on the dialect actually. In Standard Dutch it's not exactly like English W but also not like V, more like a little in between. In some dialects like the Eastern ones it really is more like a V, and in the south (and in Belgium) it is exactly like W in English. Also where W is closer to English, V is closer to English V, and where W is closer to English V, V is closer to F.

    Living like a local? Well first you start with going as fast and so far as you can from that toy town called Amsterdam. Then we talk again...
