As an Indonesian who's been to several Indonesian restos in NL and few other countries, I must admit that the best Indonesian food outside Indonesia is in NL. It's probably because many restaurants in NL employ best Indonesian chefs. I was also told that Indonesian spices are relatively easy to find there.
Meh, weird enough its gotta be usa. Indonesian food in NL is kinda watered down. Its more indisch rather than indonesian. Also the variety in usa is better. More authentic jajanan are available in usa. And dubai also has authentic indonesian food.

there is a small restaurant named De Taverne in a very small town called Maarheeze. There you find the authentic dutch meals as how it was served 20 years ago also in Amsterdam. My favorite Warm Fried Camembert with Sweet blueberry sauce. Go and enjoy

Amsterdam trip #11 coming up in October. We've tried all of this and more, except for the fresh stroopwafel. Long Pura is my favorite rijsttafel out of the 4 we've had.
My favourite food in Damsko is Surinamese food especially telo (spicy saltfish on fried cassava) and roti chicken or lamb...also I like kapsalon - an aluminium foil container of fries, doner meat, cheese and salad which can have up to 2000 calories...yes I know kapsalon originated in Rotterdam but they do them just as well in Amsterdam. I got good kapsalons for just 4 euros in de Baarsjes and surinamese food just about anywhere from 3 to 10 Euros (max). But these are both served in places where you rub shoulders with working class locals, most not white so erm not really hipster enough for anyone watching this lol
Love it. Being hipster and leftwing is fantastic, and it looks great sharing it on instagram with your friends. Until those blackies stand at the table next to you. Hahaha! Ram's roti in the Van Woustraat is nice, and the Surinam guy in the Waterlooplein metrostation sells great bakkeljauw, saltfish.

Stroopwaffels are great, such a fantastic comfort food. One other important dish would be patat (fries) in all variation, for example as the famous patatje oorlog (fries with onions, mayo and peanut sauce).

Do not visit Long Pura. We went there tonight based on this recommendation. We waited 1 hour 50 minutes before receiving our main course. During this time another couple walked out and 2 other parties complained about the wait. The staff would only say that the kitchen was slow. If this is the case then do not keep seating people if you can't serve them. Whilst waiting several people, including us, had to ask about drinks and the waitress who took the order was oblivious to what we were missing.
Missing the white asparagus and 'rookworst' here in Canada. Couple of weeks ago made my own 'eierballen' from a TH-cam video. Never want to live in the Netherlands again, but I do miss those snacks sometimes.
I used to go to a restaurant called Raden Mas, to have rijstaffel, it was near the American Hotel. It was wonderful. I would fly to Amsterdam just to eat there again but it's gone. What a pity!
In March 1996, I don't recall seeing street foods in the areas we went to. I don't know why we didn't eat more local food in the 4 days we were there. We ate at a Chinese restaurant one night. I wish I could remember what else we ate.

did the great ocean road when in australia, too. australia is one of the best countries to live in here in europe amsterdam is quite a good choice too when it comes to outgoing mentalities. so aussies and dutch are kind of same kind of people, both like to party wild. that's great. :-)

Look no further! This is the best Top-10! Although it missed the Febo-products, like 4 kinds of kroket, the bamischijf, and the frikandel-speciaal. The true Belgian chips. The snert at the Historisch Museum. And the gevulde koek at De Bijenkorf.
No Lekkerbek (deep fried fish fillet) or Kibbeling (smal pieces of deep fried fish)? Vietnamees spring rolls (a imported part of Dutch culture)? Soft rolls with cheese, or Filet American and hard boiled Egg, Veal liver and Salted beef (broodje halfom)? If a Dutchman invites you to dinner at his house and offers you Draadjesvlees en Rode kool, do go, its a real nice dish of a kind of Slow Cooked beef (like an Irish style corned beef) with red cabbage with Apples and potato mash, and when you are lucky, some pears boiled in port and cinemon. It is the Dish Dutch people will remind them of their childhood and wintertime. Dutch Pea Soup is also really nice, its a very thick soup with, smoked sausage, bacon and pork meat.

Please skip the onions! Some sellers do hide the fish under cheap onions in order to hide the old and smelly herring. So buy the herring and demand the onions way on the side and preferably none at all. The onions destroy the fresh smell and taste of the herring.
the reason that the sells herring in pieces in Amsterdam has to do with the poor population in the past. many people could not afford a whole herring but wanted to taste the delicious herring. clever herring sellers then decided to cut the herring into pieces. customers could then buy a whole and if they had less money they could also buy 1 or 2 pieces
Is it lactose intolerance or all dairy? Because we have all kinds of sheep or goat cheeses. And nowadays there are enough vegan options (especially in Amsterdam) if you really want to be safe.

Seeing all these movies about foreigners tasting our national snacks, you'd think the Netherlands is comprised only of our capitol Amsterdam..... you can eat these treats anywhere in Holland. By now, you stumble over the multitude of stroopwafel- qnd cheeseshops in Amsterdam

The best Indonesian restaurant in Amsterdam is Sama Sebo. Actually it is also the first Indonesian restaurant in the city.

Een bitterbal is gevuld met vleesjus? Jakkes! een echte bitterbal is gevuld met ragout gemaakt met vlees van de oosestaart en verse kruiden.
"Gravy" zoals ze dat in Engeland kennen is veel dikker dan jus en lijkt op ragout, waarschijnlijk wordt dat bedoeld 😉

Is it lactose intolerance or all dairy? Because we have all kinds of sheep or goat cheeses. And nowadays there are enough vegan options (especially in Amsterdam) if you really want to be safe.
joyceeijck | sheep and goats cheese are called dairy in English too. In Dutch as well actually. Of course there are many vegan or dairy free options, especially here in Amsterdam. But traditionally, we’re a dairy country and dairy is in many many things.

Withlocals The vegan junk food bar and the meatless district are two of my favourites also the falafel shop I can’t remember it’s name but they do chips which haven’t had any meat products fried in the oil
