My brother fancies himself as a really good driver. He used to play Gran Tourismo on the PS2, He likes Japanese cars, drives always over the speed limit and thinks that everybody on the street is out to race him. When I told him that I have been into sim racing for a while (iRacing) he asked me "can you make money with that?" (yeah, he's that kind of guy too). I told him, no I'm to slow for anything like that and I do it just for fun. So he came over one day to try my rig and to show me how its done. I put him in the MX5 on Lime Rock Park (easy track) and he couldn't even finish a lap. Spent more time on the gras than on the tarmac. He started blaming the car, so I let him pick another car and track combination. He chose the Porsche 992 GT3R on the Nürburgring Nordschleife. Don't have to tell you how that went. Then he blamed my setup and asked me if I can hook up a controller and let him drive in chase mode. I have an aluminum profile rig with triple screens (and VR) a VRS DF Pro wheelbase and Simgrade VX-Pro pedals. Some people just don't realize that there is so much more to going fast around the track, than just hitting the throttle. We all get humbled when we take our first lap in a real sim. Amazing first video btw. Instant sub.

@@SimNub He'd probably do better if he had the patience for that. I told him to take it very slow for the first few laps, to get familiar with the track and warm his tires up. Great video, there needs to be more content out there like this. I just spent $15k building a sim rig only to find immediate frustration and loss of enthusiasm for even using it. Most channels don't discuss these things, the whole sim racing experience comes across like "Buy this wheel or pedal and it'll be GREAT!". In reality the whole sim rig isn't really useable until you sort out the mechanical alignments for the seat/wheel/pedals, get the racing portal's software settings correct, get the pedal/wheel manufacturer's software settings correct, and probably modify some .ini files. Welcome aboard. The road is long and sometimes frustrating, but as your driving skills improve, driving will start to feel better and better. A tip: look for information on braking... Braking is the most important thing, and if I had known this back in the day, it would have made things much easier. I would say that braking makes up 70% of track driving, even if it sounds silly, but with time, you’ll understand what I mean.
one quick one about weight of steering on GT3. The FFB is per car. So the rule of thumb I am using is: 100% in Wheel HW, then whatever your game tells you Automatically after you drive 2-5 laps in the car. In iRacing that FFB setting is per car and you can click "Auto" for it to tell what is the 'Normal/Good' FFB is, from there I usually reduce by 1 or 2 (I do not race with a DD, I use CSW2.5) That being said, some of my cars are 7-8, other 10-11 of FFB number in iRacing.
FFB can be unique to the car as long as you check the box for custom controls. Someone else explained it to me in the comments and now it's dialed. Just need to dial in my skill issue now haha
Give the Formula Ford Ray 1600 a drive. It's far and away my favorite car. The 2 series it runs are both always populated and the racing is a lot of fun, especially in the higher splits.
What!? This was your first video? I liked it so much I went to look for the next and to my surprise, there wasn't any! I loved it man, I'll be looking forward to the next one, and I'll see you on the track some day
@SimNub full disclosure its just a cheap Amazon sim rig and logitech wheel but its the best I've ever had so I was thrilled with my purchase. Life happens answer sim racing doesn't seem so important but I remember all those feelings you were experiencing. It's been almost a year so I was right back there as a frustrated but excited noob last night. Great video!
My first time getting a wheel I jumped into ACC and decided to do a few laps to see how it felt. I chose the bmw on the because i like German cars and could not stay on the course for the life of me. I tried again in the Lamborghini and it drove like a dream in comparison but i was still so damn slow. Ill just stick to dirt rally 2.0 for a while until i get more of a hang of everything lmao
What do you mean by reality check? I just got out of D and it was more or less same as rookies. Sometimes slightly worse and sometimes slightly cleaner. The biggest difference was when I got put into a couple higher splits and everyone raced very clean and I got last place haha.
@SimNub the real jump is from D to C! Most C class series allow rain and don't have quick repair, the races feel somewhat more serious too. Tackling that without much prior experience and knowledge turned out to be very difficult, for me at least!
@@ikutachi That's good to know! Thank you for the heads up! I just made it to C and haven't run any races in it yet. Rain racing is still pretty foreign to me despite watching tutorials on the rain line and what not. No quick repair sounds like a drag! Gonna be a lap down making it to the pits anyway
Just keep at it. The GR86 is the next logical progression and actually easier to drive compared to the mx5. You can also start comparing telemetry with other drivers on garage 61
I'm getting back into simracing, couldn't before due to life just "lifing"....now some time has opened up.....and its time to dust off the SC2 Pro and its time for a comeback. Wish me luck fellas!
Brilliant stuff 👏 really enjoyed that .I started my sim channel yesterday, but im an old fart with no experience 😂 looking forward to following your progress....gave you a subscription 🤗 Harry
was it just my split or are they super aggressive in that series? People ramming and getting DQ'd. Tanked my SR, I was red in the face 🤣lol. Wait whats wrong with ovals?
@SimNub I typically raced too conservatively on ovals. I was always nervous making passes without triples unless I was plate racing. On top of that I can't stand caution laps. I get it's a SIM but there is absolutely no reason we are doing more than 2 yellow flag laps at a time. Lastly, the demograph is crap. It's always some else's fault. I had a G27 forever. Bought a R9 in June and my experience changed. I raced C-class oval and realized I could actually feel what the car was doing. After a week I started running up front and winning truck races. I then decided to switch to road. I don't know why... just on a whim I guess. I started practicing a lot and LEARNING how to drive. I'm enjoying the journey... I'm also enjoying not napping behind a pace car.
@SimNub I didn't even answer your question. So I think a lot of new people flock to GT3 when they start. This leads to a lot of inexperience in the lower split. You won't see clean GT3 races till you are higher split. I've been running GR86 since July. I eventually found myself recently racing the top two splits. It's a lot cleaner. I plan on practicing and racing GT4 soon.... but who know. I won't do it until I'm comfortable.
Great video, I am definitely in the same situation as you had, but I did or a midrange cockpit. Unfortunately, I am probably a lot older and hope I can get better. I did get an ultrawide monitor and a vr handset for options. Either way, great video and keep them coming.
I definitely want to try VR once the budget allows and either triples or an ultrawide in the distant future. And I had the same doubt about being able to improve. Now I'm at peace with not racing in the top splits. Maybe one day, but if not, we will both have some great races with people on our skill level and it'll be really fun.
I changed it quite a bit to suit my needs but the main ladder frame is the same as this guide: www.reddit.com/r/simracing/comments/ztctau/wooden_rig_build_guide/ It was too upright for my liking so I raised the pedal platform and mounted the seat directly on the main frame. Also had to chop about 3 inches from the height of the wheelbase mounting tower
@@marcinkw.858 I had to come to terms with the fact that I was eventually going to ruin someone's race. More than once. And other people will ruin your race. A lot more than once. It's part of racing, we just have to try our best to race clean haha. The fact that you are concerned for other people already puts you ahead of the average driver.
Holy shit that first clip of iRacing got me LOL, full brakes straight into the side of another car 😂. I have iRacing myself, and can say it's 100% a steep learning curve compared to arcade games like Forza Horizon. I also race IRL too so that may help lol. One thing I will say is that you do not want to be braking at 100% in a Gt3 car as it doesnt like it because of the abs, more like 90%. Then you want to learn how to trailbrake, there's heaps of videos on it :). And, also just trailing off the brake instead of 100% brake - throttle - brake, as that is much more consistent for people behind and can also help you go faster
Very true! But rookies are locked in on MX5 if they want to race in the sports car discipline. I tried to push to get closer to the lap times of the top split guys and I can't even get within 2 seconds of them!
I had no idea this was your first video until I looked in the comments. I remember my first month on iracing, just wait till you start driving prototypes lol.
Have you tried the FF1600 races? I love that car. It’s more agile than the clunky MX5. I got my first wins in that car. One day I hope to work my way up to the F1 racing. I bought one and test drove it. Way too much torque for me to control at my skill level.
Im still stuck at the crashing out stage. Part of it is due to my wheel setup( a 20 pound hori apex wheel😂) but i have managed to take corners and not crash so long as i stay under 60mph. Anyway ive just subbed.
I love this because it looks like you started around the same time as me looking at the tracks you started on lol. And I also upgraded to the same car as you on the same track so probably within the same week. Now that it's been 2 tracks passed that last clip how are you doing? I'm def having a blast racing them now. I also found I rly needed to adjust my FFB settings going from the MX5 to the Ferrari. If I kept the settings it would just be clipping all the time.
I learned to really like Okayama short and I was too busy editing to drive last week. I had some time to drive the GR86 on Navarra medium and omg my poor SR 😭 I keep getting punted! I want to give Oulton Park a shot in the Ferrari but it still feels pretty hard at the moment. I wonder if we had any races together?!

I definitely know what you mean. And I am the worst at braking. So much to learn!
one quick one about weight of steering on GT3. The FFB is per car. So the rule of thumb I am using is: 100% in Wheel HW, then whatever your game tells you Automatically after you drive 2-5 laps in the car. In iRacing that FFB setting is per car and you can click "Auto" for it to tell what is the 'Normal/Good' FFB is, from there I usually reduce by 1 or 2 (I do not race with a DD, I use CSW2.5)
That being said, some of my cars are 7-8, other 10-11 of FFB number in iRacing.
FFB can be unique to the car as long as you check the box for custom controls. Someone else explained it to me in the comments and now it's dialed. Just need to dial in my skill issue now haha
Great start in TH-cam and in sim racing!
Thank you so much V!
Killer video! I'm looking forward to more!
Thank you so much! Got something in the works!
Sooo many flashbacks for me in this Video !!
Thank you 2 make this Video, now I know: I AM NOT ALONE !
YOU ARE NOT ALONE! BROTHER!
i'm hoping to see more of your journey man ! Great video ! Welcome to the world of simracing !
Thank you!
Give the Formula Ford Ray 1600 a drive. It's far and away my favorite car. The 2 series it runs are both always populated and the racing is a lot of fun, especially in the higher splits.
I need to give the formula discipline a decent try still. Thank you for the suggestion!
You are a very good narrator! Can't wait to see more ^^
Thank you so much!!
Video was solid! can't wait to follow this journey!
Thank you! hope I don't disappoint 🤞
Glad i found your channel. I felt like giving up but pushing myself right now for my first win
Hell yea brother! NEVER GIVE UP! NEVER SURRENDER!
Hell yeah I'm loving the edit style 👌. You got a sub
Thank you! I appreciate it very much!
that first win does feel really good
it really did lmao

Welcome to the sim racing rabbit hole man
Hello! Thank you for the warm welcome! And thanks for your hot laps, I watch them every week hahaha!
What!? This was your first video? I liked it so much I went to look for the next and to my surprise, there wasn't any! I loved it man, I'll be looking forward to the next one, and I'll see you on the track some day
oh man your words are too kind. Pressure is on!
Absolutely goated vids!
thank you so much!!
Great video! I just started Iracing as well. Definitely going through the same feeling jumping from the mazda to the Ferrari GT3.
I'm thinking it might be a little too big of a jump for me a little too quick hahaha
Glad to see other newbies/returning-noobs are just as bad as I am at the start.
feels a little bit better when you are not the only one right? haha
Good story, and very good narration. Keep going.
Thank you, will do.
The video was very cool and well made, can't wait to see other on your channel dude !
I'll be back with more!
amazing video🔥💪. keep going!!
Thank you! I will!
Very nice video. Entertaining and curious for more content. Subscribed
Thanks so much for the sub! I really appreciate the support so early on!
Here to follow your journey 😊👏🏾👍🏾👌🏾
Glad to have you on board!
Great first video keep it up! I started along a similar path with building my first rig. just became your 1000th Sub too!
WOOHOO SUB NUMBER 1000!!!
I got my rig and everything included for $600..you inspired me to get back into tonight when i get home..
That sounds like a great deal! Hell yea!
@@arenam79 the best things in life come with their own set of challenges right? haha thank you!
My first time getting a wheel I jumped into ACC and decided to do a few laps to see how it felt. I chose the bmw on the because i like German cars and could not stay on the course for the life of me. I tried again in the Lamborghini and it drove like a dream in comparison but i was still so damn slow. Ill just stick to dirt rally 2.0 for a while until i get more of a hang of everything lmao
rally sounds fun!
Great video, dude! Beware the reality check that upping licenses gives you! GL!
Gonna be a lap down making it to the pits anyway
bro im on the same page of being a very new to sim racing, and also keep up these video you got a gem here
Thank you very much!!! Fellow sim noob!!
You made a great choice by building a cheap rig and putting that money into a good wheelbase. Simagic are really good
I really like the wheelbase but also I probably could have gone cheaper haha. The chassis is my favorite part of the build.
So in my personal opinion… keep going down the track of improving iRacing z I am also looking to get into it and this gives me hope
I hope you start soon! It's a ton of fun (but also more expensive than I thought)!
Just keep at it. The GR86 is the next logical progression and actually easier to drive compared to the mx5. You can also start comparing telemetry with other drivers on garage 61
Yea the GR feels like a less squirrely mx5 lmao. Thank you for the suggestions!
exited to see more from you bro, keep us updated
will do! thank you!
My favorite kind of motivation. Growth out of spite. Come on let’s show those perfect dad 2 kids nicest guy you know posers!
Growth out of spite hahahaha! I love how you worded that! 🤣🤣🤣
Wow dude awesome content. was super surprised to see this was the first vid. Keep it up soon you will be max verstappening everyone. 👍
no shot hahaha! thank so much!
I'm very excited to acompany you on your journey :) Love to see how you're gonna do. SUB.
hopefully not worse haha THANK YOU!
I'm getting back into simracing, couldn't before due to life just "lifing"....now some time has opened up.....and its time to dust off the SC2 Pro and its time for a comeback. Wish me luck fellas!
Hell yea brother! Good luck!!
Iracing is the most competitive, awesome, fun thing I've ever done
But sometimes you want to rip your hair out right? Hahaha

Brilliant stuff 👏 really enjoyed that .I started my sim channel yesterday, but im an old fart with no experience 😂 looking forward to following your progress....gave you a subscription 🤗 Harry
I'm looking forward to see more of your content too Harry! Maybe one day soon we will line up together in the same race
Hahah brilliant video!
Thank you so much! All the way from Finland wow!
love the video keep it up!
will do! Thanks!
Great video. I’m terrible at it but i love it. I’m a good driver in real life. Honest
I was surprised how little everyday driving skills carried over to racing 🤣
As a first video this is amazing
I'm gonna print this comment and hang it on my wall. Hahaha thank you!
I raced oval for 9 years. Quit cold turkey. Now race GR86 exclusively. I couldn't imagine racing GT3😅
was it just my split or are they super aggressive in that series?
Great video you got new Subscriber👊
Thank you so much!
Great story and presentation!
Would like to see links to the DIY guides you made your rig from.
I changed it quite a bit to suit my needs but the main ladder frame is the same as this guide: www.reddit.com/r/simracing/comments/ztctau/wooden_rig_build_guide/
It was too upright for my liking so I raised the pedal platform and mounted the seat directly on the main frame. Also had to chop about 3 inches from the height of the wheelbase mounting tower
Dud you are just me before even start to racing with other people :P. Thanks for giving me hope :D
You haven't raced with other people yet? It's amazing when its good and it's terrible when its bad hahaha
@@SimNub for sure. I don't want to spoil other people races because my lack of experience and consistency
@@SimNubthanks for the tips :) I think I will try soon :)
I wanna check on the progress dude cant believe that was your first video
haha thank you! pressure is on for the next one
damn super underrated, keep it up!!! tag me in your 100k video in a few months (;
Few months haha that would be pretty ambitious 😂
You have great potential, i will be with you!

bros gonna BLOW up
knock on wood!
I to have a similar story. Lol, you sure have a new sub. I am rooting for you bro!
Thank you for your vote of confidence!
The learning curve is tough but you’ll definitely get there. If you ever want some coaching, I’d love to help you out and keep up the great content🔥
Thank you! And what an offer! I will seriously consider it!
I feel like I could've made it if it weren't for the leftmost car hahahaha
MX5 is great. Not only for beginners.
Very true! But rookies are locked in on MX5 if they want to race in the sports car discipline. I tried to push to get closer to the lap times of the top split guys and I can't even get within 2 seconds of them!
I had no idea this was your first video until I looked in the comments. I remember my first month on iracing, just wait till you start driving prototypes lol.
oh god hahahaha hopefully I get there
@@SimNub practice practice practice and you’ll get to it eventually
Have you tried the FF1600 races? I love that car. It’s more agile than the clunky MX5. I got my first wins in that car.
One day I hope to work my way up to the F1 racing. I bought one and test drove it. Way too much torque for me to control at my skill level.
I test drove it briefly. I need to dedicate some real time to it! A lot of high praise from everyone
Im still stuck at the crashing out stage. Part of it is due to my wheel setup( a 20 pound hori apex wheel😂) but i have managed to take corners and not crash so long as i stay under 60mph. Anyway ive just subbed.
Oh wow no force feedback either? I've never heard of that wheel haha. I heard a lot of old school oval racers don't use FFB for some reason.
Keep it up bro need more vids from u
will do!!
Gg great first vid
gg no rm haha thank you!
Your braking seems weird but I started here too hope to see you at the track :)
I suck at braking 🤣
Awesome vid man glad you are getting in to iracing, where did you get the telemetry on screen from?
Thanks! I think its called iRon? www.reddit.com/r/iRacing/comments/t6mexq/new_free_open_source_overlay_app/
Liked it and subscribed. Keep us up to date
Thank you! Will do!
Great vid! You should try assetto corsa with content manager. Way more options and also competitive racing!
I have it!! First thing I did was load up my local track and got in my own car. Was freaky hahaha!
ai thumbnail is crazy (love the video)
thank you for the feedback! i shall think of something else for the next one!
