You get commission payments from Jaguar! You're brilliant, I love your vids and your enthusiasm for Jaguars. You alone convinced me to trade in my 2006 S-Type Sport for a 2012 Luxury 3.0L diesel. I did this last Monday the 28th August so I'm still a Newbee XF owner. So far I'm lovin' it, although I have to say that the seats aren't as comfortable as in my S-Type Sport. On the strength of your video I have just changed my number plate lights over. I don't think I'll tackle the dash cam, I might let my local Jaguar Indie do that as and when. You're brilliant Hilton, keep it up! This comes from Mike in West Drayton (near Heathrow) in England.
Michael Setchell Thanks for the kind words Mike. Congrats on your 2012 3L diesel. That's a wonderful motor and you will see how reliable it is. It will never let you down. I wish you many thousands of happy miles in that gorgeous car ;-)
Excellent video, Hilton. I wanted to see how you pulled the trim off the A-pillar. I would like to add a garage/gate remote to my mirror mount and have been to scared to pull off any trim, so far. I feel happier about opening the mirror now, at least! Thanks for the effort of filming this!
Thanks Mike. It was necessary to pull the trim off, just used my trim tool to wedge the cable in gently. That trim is easy to remove though. It his clips in, so using a trim tool, start at the top, wedge the flat trim tool in between the windshield and the trim and twist your trim tool - it will pop off and expose the airbag ;-). Thanks for watching.
Just fitted mine, a next base dash cam that I've had on previous vehicles. Not as neat as your cam but much better and hides power cable.
Great video Hilton, I've a RHD also, 2008
hey Eric - nice car. I sold mine. I now have a 2011 XFR ;)
@@carfanfan yes I know, I saw it at your videos, nice car, I have mine now for 1 year, I like the car very much, maybe in the future I will buy myself a newer version, but great video's 👍😁
@@ericraaijmakers4687 thanks mate 😉
Thanks for the vid and link to buy.
Hilton, Great vid THANK YOU
Nice vid Hilton, a man after my own heart, with your attention to detail and neatness. I didn't know there was a camera that replaced the mirror cover like that. I wonder if it'll fit on mine - the plastic shroud looks bigger than yours, as it has the rain sensor in it.
I was thinking of powering mine from the redundant sunroof connector on my car - I guess there will be a ign and batt +ve there.
Andy Linton Hey Andy, my car also has rain sensor and auto headlight sensors. This will fit all XF Jaguars. You can power it from the sunroof connector, but the cable is long and cutting it would probably render it not workable due to the complex connector which accepts all the DVR wires and converts them into four wires, video RCA, accessory, battery + and ground. Thanks for watching ;-)
Understood, thanks! I did a nice little mod to mine, I installed a powered holder for my iPhone in the forward cup holder. Wired back to the usb outlet in the centre box.
Andy Linton That's a nice mod. Wanna come do mine LoL ;-)
Love to visit your country! It wasn't hard, the hardest part was removing the front cupholder so I could get into it to fix the mount in place. You have to take out the insides of the large cupholder, remove all 4 screws, then clip out the wood panel forward of the cupholders, take out a couple of screws there, then kinda pull it up and back.
Its got two mounting tabs that are shared with two of the screws in the large cupholder - removing all 4 screws makes it loose enough to get it out.
Then I just ran the USB cable inside the passenger side trim panel and up into the box where the aux inputs are.
I used a Brodit phone holder - they're the best!
Can I email you from this? I'll send you a pic.
Andy Linton Sure, I'll message you on TH-cam my email address.
Another good video Hilton , i will be checking out Aliexpress . Don't think we have anywhere in the UK where we can buy this kind of accessory .
I like the way the camera mount and shroud are customised for the XF. I think I will acquire one. Have you noticed any other dislikes yet?
MH30R So far I've found that the adas system is not on this unit. Accident detection and lane departure warning was supposed to he included. The video quality is super HD tho and excellent at night. Watch for my next video on the video quality ;)
Brilliant video any video for hardwiring a dash cam mirror into a range rover evouqe
Hey Greg, thanks for watching. I'm not quite sure about which dashcam would apply to the Evoque, it seems there are two different types judging by whats available on AliExpress. I guess it was due to a facelift somewhere along the line. The one I fitted on my car it would seem fits the early model Evoques as well, but later models will probably use the other one listed. This is based on assumption since I haven't seen a late model Evoque's mirror cover. Here are some links that could help - you would need to check your car's mirror housing to look for similarities.
The one that fits my car is :www.aliexpress.com/item/Hidden-Car-DVR-Video-Recorder-for-Evoque-Range-Rover-Discovery-4-low-specification-year-2010-2014/32749858739.html?spm=2114.search0104.3.109.ngRvAd&ws_ab_test=searchweb0_0,searchweb201602_1_10152_10065_10151_10068_10344_10345_10342_10343_10340_10341_10307_10060_10155_10154_10056_10055_10054_10537_10059_10536_10534_10533_10532_100031_10099_10338_10103_10102_10052_10053_10142_10107_10050_10051_10174_9906_10084_10083_10080_10082_10081_10110_10111_10112_10113_10114_10312_10313_10314_10078_10079_10073-9906,searchweb201603_30,ppcSwitch_2&btsid=c2d86ad3-e825-4182-87c3-f8357f6ff7ab&algo_expid=bbef5a70-6638-4240-a289-110b3a527129-15&algo_pvid=bbef5a70-6638-4240-a289-110b3a527129

Another brilliant video as always Hilton! Do you have a video showing how to remove the rear view mirror on the XF? Or any resource link you may have? I am replacing my rear view mirror and I am a bit weary. I know it’s a 90 degree turn but not sure if it is clockwise or anti-clockwise? Thank you Hilton - Top channel bud👍🏼
Thanks my friend. You can twist it 90 degrees left or right. If you search Jaguar XF rear view mirror on eBay you can get a look at the fitting. It's omnidirectional so it's easy to remove 😉
@@carfanfan Hilton you are a legend mate! Thank you so much bud! what a brilliant resource your channel is 👍
Great stuff, been waiting for something that is neat fitting like that - so have ordered the camera and can't wait to fit, hope it doesn't take too long to arrive!
One question though, the piggyback fuse adapters stick out to the side, which would be blocking access to the next couple of fuses or so, so how have you got both next to each other (you say 28+27) - don't the adapters have to be the same orientation in order to get the supply from the non-fused side of the fusebox (otherwise the supply to the camera will be going through the seat or power socket fuse too?) Hope that makes sense..
I guess can try to find another location but I do like the choice you have of 27+28!
Hey there, just let each fuse adapter face the opposite direction. Fuses are not directional, so it doesn't matter which way they face. What's important is which wire goes into 27 and which one goes into 28 - yellow is constant battery live and red is accessory - the yellow wire feeds power to the dashcam all the time for it to keep its settings and the red accessory wire turns the dashcam on and off when the ignition is turned on or off.
Make sure you find a nice grounded bolt to attach the black wire to because if the dashcam isn't ground properly it won't function properly.
@@carfanfan good info
Like always 👌
If you are going through the motions of fitting the camera why didn't you include all the in between bits? Which are an important part of the installation!
This will be my next project, any update on fuse locations for red/yellow wires since you made this video?
I'd recommend using a test light to check which fuses are permanently live and which ones turn off with ignition off. The seats on my car were permanently live, however some models are live only for 5 mins and then go off. So it's best to use a test light. They're cheap and easy to use. Just ground it and press the sharp end of the test light on one of the metal nibs of the fuse.
Hi Hilton, where did you get the fuse adapters from and how much ? Love the vids by the way.
Robert Hough Hey Rob, I got them on AliExpress. Here's a link to some: m.aliexpress.com/s/item/32600360795.html?spm=a2g0n.search-cache.0.0.7f25570fLHCSms:
Love your videos as well. What made you purchase a dashcam?
Thanks Deborah, I bought the dashcam to protect me in case of an accident. People will always lie and put the blame on you if they caused a crash. I've had several near misses due to people talking on their cell phones, not stopping at stop signs and running red lights, so a dashcam will help you prove to your insurance that you were not at fault and your premiums will stay low.
Thanks Hilton.
hi do you know off a new or better app as this cam now comes with the ambarella a12 and it hasn't been updated since may 2016.....thanks.
Hey Marc. I use Finalcam. It's the best dashcam app compared to the rest of them.
Fitted mine now. Have a question. The blue flashing light to show its recording will this flash all night long.. I have wired it correctly I think. The yellow to my aircon and red to steering column always live... thanks.
Have I wired it the wrong way around. Should yellow (battery +) be to the steering column because that is always live. Red (acc) to aircon as it only comes on with ignition. Thanks.
Hi Marc - yes your 2nd comment is correct - yellow battery + must always be connected to a live source and the red accessory wire must be connected to a source that goes live when you start the engine. You shouldn't have any lights lit up on the DVR when the car is off - it will run your battery flat. Even if you hook up your yellow and red wires up correctly, the DVR has a setting which allows it to turn on and record if the G-sensor is set to on for pedestrian movements or if it picks up movement in front of the car - turn that off, it will run your battery flat as well. I learnt the hard way ;-)
Thanks hilton.
If yellow + is always live will that not drain the battery though.
I was thinking that the yellow was going to be for the camera on it's own and red acc was going to be for the g sensor parking mode that's why I thought battery + (yellow wire) would have been a switched live...... I hate electrics.
Hey Hilton. Your video are great man.
My 2012 Jaguar xfr has a long pouch that is folded in the back seats where the cup holder is .. LOl looks like a gun case or snow board pouch ? What exactly was this meant for ?
Thanks !!
Hey there Sulja, to be honest, I have no idea what that's for. But I think you're on the right track assuming it could be for skis or snowboard ;-)
I am loving this dash cam. I have a 2014 jaguar xf sportbrake portfolio, would this fit easily as per your video? Also would the manufacturer post to UK? Many thanks
thebooders Hey there. Yes, this would fit your car exactly as it fits mine. The only difference will be your fuse layout. You will need to go through the fuses listed in your manual for panel number 2 (the fuse vox in the foot well) to see which fuse slots can be used for accessory (red wire on dashcam) and constant battery (yellow wire in dashcam). For accessory you need to find something that turns power off when you turn the engine off. A test light can help you establish that easily.
Hilton, just received my cam today and I am ready to go. Hopefully I will find appropriate fuses in the footwell box. Cheers for your help and posting these vidoes, it certainly helped me buy this. Simon
Does it have the rear camera?
Mine didn't, but you can buy one extra as an option from the seller. Just ask. Also, be sure to ask for a 1080p rear camera, the 720p is so bad it's not worth the money.
Hi Hilton. Much like others have commented: Great Videos, I watched them all while I was eagerly awaiting my Jags arrival. I am having problems with the dash cam and wondered if you could help. I have fitted it exactly like you show, I have power to it, it's all tucked away BUT it's having issues connecting to my phone, and I can't leave it unconnected as it chimes every 30 seconds saying it's connecting. Did you have any problems with the connection, also are there any options to turn off audio? thanks
Steven Murray Hey Steven, I didn't have any issues with mine. I think WiFi password is 12345678 or 012345678 or 123456789. But try the first one as it is usually 1-8. Mine chimes constantly if there is no SD card in it. Are you using the LinkinEyes App?
Thanks for getting back. I am using the linkin eye app. I have connected (1234567890) but it disconnects and struggles to reconnect. Separately to that ( although I imagine a related issue) wifi aside it will record for 30 seconds (chime) then stop recording for the next 30 seconds (chime) and repeat that process continually. I'm at a loss with it and for the time being have disconnected power.
Hmmm, strange. It sounds to me like it is not ground. Disconnect the ground and connect it elsewhere. I moved mine to a large bolt that holds the dash in place. Give that a try and if it doesn't work, you might have a faulty dashcam, but I doubt it because I've bought many dashcams over the years from Ali and never had a faulty one. Also check that the yellow battery constant is connected to the correct fuse. If the red and yellow are reversed it can also act weird not storing any settings as soon as your turn the car off. Hope this helps buddy.
I have used the same bolt you used but I'm grateful to have a possible cause for the issue so I'll look into that. Thanks.
The earth is firmly trapped behind the big dash bolt you used. My camera came slightly different to yours in that rather than have wires to attach to the 'add a fuses' it came with fuse ends pre wired on so I just swapped fuses 27 and 28 for the camera wires. Other than that it's identically set up to yours so perhaps that's caused a confusion. I shall get someone with a better idea than myself to take a look.
Thanks once again for the video or not only would I not know where to have started but I would not have known the camera existed!!
Hi Hilton hope your ok one question what size of fuses are you using on both of the connections for the dash cam, also when I tried the dash cam in my XF it was lose am I doing any thing wrong, cheers mick
Hey Mick, not sure why yours is lose. Mine is extremely tight the moment I clipped it in - I would recommend unclipping yours and re-clipping it in while ensuring the first half is in place around the area where the clips will clip onto and then clip the other half on while pressing it against the windshield.
The fuses are mini blades.
Hilton hi thanks for your input I have not yet fitted it yet,one more question on the piggy back there is a line fuse I think they are 2.5 amps can't quite see will I need to put 2.5 fuses into the piggy back? Thanks
Mick Douglas Hey Mick, the fuses that came with your fuse adapters or piggybacks on your dashcam are for the dashcam - this means the dashcam uses a 2.5 amp fuse, but whatever fuse you remove to insert your piggybacks into must be placed in the blank fuse holes of your piggybacks - that way the circuit is still properly protected as Jaguar intended. I hope this helps 😉😁
Love your videos :) I am having an issue getting any power to my dashcam. I purchased it from the same seller as yours. I own XF 2013 (facelift) S D and my fuse box is different to yours and unable to locate an appropriate fuse. Are you able to help? Thank you in advance.
Hey, I would recommend going to your XF's service book. Look for the fuse box that is listed under the steering wheel. Go through the descriptions they list and select the same types of fuses (probably in different locations), but your XF should still have a fuse down there for electric seats and one for lighter socket. Those are the two I'd use. The lighter socket is where you will hook up your red accessory wire - this fuse switches the dashcam off when you turn the engine off. The yellow wire is your battery positive, ie. constant power, this keeps the settings on your dashcam stored even when the engine is off. The black wire must be ground to a bolt or something metal. So the red wire will be connected to your lighter socket fuse and the yellow wire to your electric seat fuse (the seats are always live, so this is a good fuse to use) - if you don't have electric seats, you should look for a fuse that supplies power to something mundane as seats - but never hook up to safety items such as brakes, airbag, ECU, ESC or anything like that. Electric mirror fuse will also be live constant for your yellow wire. The accessory wire (red) must always be hooked up to your lighter socket as it's the safest, easiest fuse to use. It can't damage anything on your car. If you are unsure, get a fuse tester and test which fuses are live with the car off and which one's are not live with the engine off. This will give you a good place to start. I hope this helps. Thanks for watching ;-)
Hilton Hi.. i own 2013 XF too... but there is no Auxilary Power slot in the fuse box. F27: Diver Heated/ Climate Seat, F28: NIL. can you help?
Hi Hilton. Does this camera have a Motion Detection ?
Did you ever get to remove/change "happy share" ??
Yeah, I bought another dashcam without the ADAS system. It now just displays the time and date. The other one was faulty because it would switch on randomly and run my battery down and it would get hot. The new one doesn't make a sound when it turns on, so its more obscure and it doesn't overheat or drain my battery. Basically, don't get one with the advanced detection systems and lane departure warnings - I didn't even use that crap. I'd recommend just buying the plain simple dashcam that does just that - only records what goes on in front of you. You can also get one where you can attach a rear camera as well.
Which one did you get please? And does it go in the same housing - as thats the main 'pull' of this one for me, a nice discreet solution that looks like it belongs in the car. A rear could be useful but the wiring could be a pain :)
I got this one, but without the rear camera because I was too lazy to install it :-). But it works great and it fits like an OEM mirror cover. Fitment can be a bit fiddly, so make sure you have the wires routed correctly to prohibit it from not clipping on correctly - those clips break easily and once they break, you can through it away. I broke mine, but melted it back onto the housing using some more plastic - its holding for now.

Hilton, I have the same fuse layout as you. Does your dashcam immediate cut out on ignition off? Mine keeps running and ive been told that the sleep mode might take up to 40minutes to kick in. Will try it tomorrow and figure it out.
Hey Moose, your dashcam should cut out immediately when you turn ignition off. It will help for you to get a test light - ground one wire of the rest light and put the other wire to various fuses - you don't have to pull the fuses out, if you look carefully at your fuses, you will spot little metal connects at the end of your fuses, just touch the test light wire to the metal on the fuse and if it lights up while the car is off, then that fuse is live constantly, if it doesn't light up, then the fuse is dormant while the engine is off - that dormant fuse will be where your accessory wire for your dashcam will go (its the red wire) - the yellow wire is for your constant battery positive - this wire would be placed where you have a fuse that is always live. But it sounds like you have a bad ground to me - make sure the black ground wire is really connected to a part of the body that is ground - not all bolts on the car are ground. My guess is move your ground wire to another point and check again if your dashcam turns off when you turn the ignition off.
Hilton Thanks for the advice. I'll give it another go during the weekend. Just in the process of retrofitting the usb module. Will give an update once done. Cheers again.
Hilton figured out that the camera was working correctly. The dash has power for a couple of minutes after ignition off and then switches off. Now for the LED upgrade 😊 finding it difficult to find the bulbs you used. Any links with UK delivery? Cheers again. Keep up the good work. USB retrofit was nice and simple. Really nice to have.
Hey there, glad you came right with the Dashcam. Here's a link to the exact bulbs I'm using in my lo beam and hi beams - these have fans, but they are truly the best in terms of brightness and won't dazzle other traffic - in my video, I show you the fan ones fitted in the lo beam and the long heat sync ones for the hi beam - but I found the fan operated LED bulbs are currently the best and they are made by CREE which is a leader in LED technology right now. Bryan Connelly heh heh, yeah, its always sunny here. It just occurred to me, the videos I linked to you were of my old dashcam. A little amberella. But my Jaguar dashcam also has the amberella processor. I took a look at AliExpress and see they have several available now. The amberella is the most expensive. But you would do good with any of the cheaper ones that go for $56 because they use Sony cameras at 1080p. If you get one with 1080p you're good to go. I only encounter glare in the early mornings, but no dash reflection. You will enjoy the obscurity of it because no one even notices it, not even the Jaguar dealer staff ;-)

Hi Hilton. I'm struggling with my dash cam fuse box. The adapter is a 10 amp fuse. Do you think I can piggyback a higher amp, because I have the same Jag as yours but was playing it safe by piggybacking the same amp fuse
You can go to a 15 amp fuse but don't push it. You could melt your fuse box. Not cheap to fix. Which fuse is the issue. The red or yellow wire?
It would be the red wire (ignition live). I believe most of the other fuse sockets are live even when the Jag is turned off (but I dont have a voltage readed to use).
I'm currently using socket F13 steering column (constant live) and F30 air conditioning (ignition live)
@@jugrajsinghsandhu5273 get yourself a little test light. They are cheap. Ground the black wire of the test light then you can see which fuses light it up when ignition is on and which don't when ignition is off. It will immediately tell you which fuse to use for your red wire. For the red wire, you're looking for a fuse that turns off after engine is turned off or shortly after it's turned off.
Going of the topic abit. But do you think there is away of updating a 2009 XF console display unit with one with google maps?
Mr Hilton. I've borrowed a voltage meter reader. How do I turn the ignition off to find the ignition live fuse. I have a keyless entry and cant find a simple answer?
Does it work with a 2013 ? Rear cam??
Yes it would. But you would need to check the housing on your particular model to ensure it's the same as some are different depending on radar cruise, auto brights and rain sensor. Mine had rain sensor only.
Also, you need to find the right fuses. Check out my channel as I had a 2013 XFR to which I wired up a OEM style dashcam as well and hooked it up to different fuses.
Hilton? Sorry to bother you but tried fitting the dash cam today, found a constant 12v output fuse slot (for sunroof I don't have) which does power the camera, when I try to connect it using the APP it declines after many attempts also having difficulties finding a switched live for the RED wire as I have the 2014 facelift model. Along with that the camera says "camera is now switching off" confused. Any help you can give me would be a massive help. Thank you, Simon.
Hey Simon, unfortunately the 2014 models and up don't have an accessory fuse in the fuse panel which you can use. I recall reading on the forums: www.jaginfo.org/archive/index.php/t-83409.html
Take a look at this forum where Philayl mentions a bit further down the page that one can use a switched live behind the interior light fitting. Perhaps this is true and it will resolve your issue. Hope it helps.
Sorry Simon, I forgot to address your query about it saying camera is now switching off - the reason its doing that is because your accessory (red wire) is not connected or you don't have it connected to a proper ground. My guess is the red wire not being connected. It needs a complete circuit to function properly.
The APP declines because the password is incorrect - try 12345678 or 0123456789 or 123456789 or 012345678 - one of these should work as the wifi password.
Hilton, Successfully fitted the Dash Cam today, had to use the remote garage door loom in the front overhead lighting panel. Couldn't connect to the APP you suggested, tried all passwords, still nothing but the APP the instructions says to download works a treat. Thank you so much for posting a video of this bit of kit and helping me with the install. Your a legend 👍😉
Simon B Hey well done Simon. Glad I could help a little and that you figured it all out. You can use Finalcam or Linkineyes APP for linking to the camera. Also, most WiFi dashcam apps will work. 😁👍
