    Many thanks Peter for a very helpful video. I'd been faffing around trying to find a switched live near the driver’s footwell junction box and eventually realised there isn't one! Your video enabled me to complete the job in no time at all and in the process create a very neat installation which I can readily reverse when the time comes. Again my sincere thanks.

      BC - Since I made this video I’ve discovered there are switched and permanent live feeds into an unused connector located above the overhead light cluster

      @@PeteDay Many thanks for the observation and I had spotted that on a Jag forum but I have a camera that seems a bit fussy about the USB cable and clearly prefers the one it is supplied with. I also didn’t fancy trying to secrete 3 metres plus cable up there as I am sure if I had tried fun and frivolity would have ensued. To be honest your solution was a doddle to roll out and I had it done and dusted in no time and of course I can readily unplug the feed when and as required. I would guess using the overhead light cluster might not afford me that possibility.

    Quite by chance I've just ordered a front & rear dashcam for my XF, literally a couple of hours ago and was watching the new Jaguar Lister Thunder video, so thats how much off an off chance it was that I saw your dashcam video, right on que though, so now thanks to you thats one aspect of the wiring looked after :) nice easy to follow video, so thanks Pete for taking the time to post it up here.

    Thanks. That's a very useful video but I have a comment. I am assured by those who know more about the XF than I do that in some countries there is a garage door opener button installed in the headlining near the rear view mirror. The wiring is still there in other models. If this is true then it must be easier to connect the wiring straight into this feed rather than install the full length cable as shown. It would also free up the socket in the centre console. I have chatted to quite a few guys who have done this.

      Canfordkid - Without testing the voltage on the garage opening wiring, I would assume it's 12 volt, not 5 volt. If so, it will require a voltage reducer splicing in, a lot more trouble than this job. Thanks for watching, and the comment.

      Thanks Pete. I shall be installing a dash cam in my XF soon so your response was very useful and much appreciated.

    I have a Jag XJ and I cannot find any videos that explains the installation of the dashcam. However the interior layout is very similar to your XF so I will be following your instruction and saving myself some cash. The only problem is that I want to get a dashcam with parking mode so I am not sure whether there will be constant power from the USB for this feature. Can you advise?

    • @PeteDay
      @PeteDay  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Candyman - All I can advise, having recently changed to a hardwired system for the Viofo A129 Duo that I now use in the XF (also has parking modes), is that the USB power shuts off after 10 minutes. Therefore I have wired the hardwire kit into the unused garage opener power plug which is located above the front interior light cluster on the XF. This has Ground, +12V permanent and +12V switched wires available. The hardwire kit senses when the ignition is switched off and puts the camera into parking mode. The kit also monitors battery voltage and shuts the camera down if the battery goes down to a certain voltage, determined by a sliding switch on the kit module. I may do another video on installing this way. Cheers.

      @@PeteDay thanks Pete. I decided to leave it to the professionals and bought a Nextbase 322GW bundle for £186.00 including rear cam, installation and a 32gb SD card.
      The engineer did suggest that the SD card is formatted every couple of weeks as they have been known to get corrupted from residual data, which in turn can corrupt the dashcam.

      The Candyman - I would agree with that. Think about a 128GB card if you drive any kind of distance or use parking mode. Fastest one you can find. Less than £30 at the moment.

      emrwilks - Thanks for the comment. I used a 5 metre cable. Plenty long enough.
